I was intrigued by the blurb and cover of this book, so managed to get an ARC copy through BookSprout. I thought the premise of the story was interesting but it didn't quite flow as well as I had hoped for. I felt there was quite a lot of missing information or presumed knowledge of this world as many of the terms were not really explained. It kind of felt like there should have been a short prequel to explain what the Samodivi and Yudi were along with the other creatures that were introduced in this one.
The main plot of Kalyna (aka Carina) having to save Stefan, whom she believes is her soulmate returned to her once more was a good one, but I was not a fan of the instalove on her side. Her and Stefan (or possibly Dushan as he was formerly known as) hardly spent any time together before she declared she was in love with him. Was she really or was she in love with the idea that he was her soulmate, rather than actually being in love with him?
I still didn't get why the Yudi and the rogues both wanted him - was that to do with who he really was or something else altogether? Or was it to get to Kalyna? This book seems to have left me with more questions than answers to be honest! The fights between the Samodivi and the Yudi were great with both sides showing immense power - I loved Kalyna's magical whip, even if she did seem to lose it a lot!
I will probably (maybe) read the next book in this series to see where the story goes next, especially with the betrayals Kalyna went through.

Cover is gorgeous but for me, I wasnt a fan of the story. It felt like a lot was missing. Not the plot aspects but the chemistry and reasons for certain things happening. For example why are the rogues after Stefan? Is it because of who he supposedly is or something else? Plus I dont feel anything between Stefan and Carina. They didnt spend much time together so I dont get the strength in their bond much. Still the writing itself outside of just the story is good. I'll probably read more from this author.

Soulmate and Sacrifice was a great read for me, I enjoyed the Samodiva mythology I’ve never read anything like this before. I enjoyed Bendis, but I would have liked to learn more about her as the Goddess and her story. The story was well put together, it was action packed and I loved it. I really enjoyed the book and would love to read more from this author. I received an Arc of this book for an honest review. I can’t wait for the second book so I can see what else happens!!!

Soulmate and Sacrifice is the first book in Aveela's Chosen Souls series. This urban fantasy features Kalyna (aka Carina) Doneva, high priestess to the Thracian moon goddess Bendis. She was granted Samodiva powers by the goddess over 3000 years prior. Her edelweiss tattoo gave her special abilities to draw upon the power of the moon. Kalyna also headed up an agency called Wildlife Guardians which was responsible for protecting nature and sacred animals from the Yudi, a group of evil fae.

Kalyna and her sisters Morena and Verda had been assaulted by a warrior named Velizar and left for dead. Bendis saved them and brought them into the Samodiva sisterhood. At Kalyna's request, the goddess also cursed a ring which Velizar stole. Unfortunately, her soulmate Dushan retrieved the stolen item, and succumbed to the ring's curse. Her beloved swore to find her again, and continued to look for her in every lifetime. The curse however could only be broken if he remembered Kalyna, confessed his love, and gave her the ring as a token of his affection. Kalyna had seen him perish too often and was determined to end the curse.
Kalyna is also known to work alongside Anton (aka Toni) Mishev, a police inspector from Varna. She lends her services as a paranormal crime investigator. When the mangled body of a man is found, Toni calls upon her. This death seems too similar to a case they worked on 10 years prior. As they investigate, Toni is convinced an American named Stefan Reeve is the murdered, but Kalyna is certain it could not be him as Stefan happens to be her reincarnated soulmate Dushan. Kalyna continues to search for evidence that would exonerate him while also hoping to get him to remember their connection and end the curse. As she digs she is sure to uncover things she wished she had never known.
There's a lot going on in this book. I never really connected with the characters and had to push myself to keep reading. I liked the fantasy aspect of the story but it probably would have resonated more if I had been familiar with the Bulgarian beliefs. At the end of the book, the author does not that future books in the series will reference different Bulgarian holidays and recommends a book called Light Love Rituals. I have not looked at this reference however I suspect it may have been a good idea to read it before this one.
I always struggle with the concept of instalove, and while Kalyna and Dushan were soulmates, the book clearly recognizes that Stefan is different from Dushan, but she falls for Stefan hard and fast. The author failed to take me on that particular journey. I liked Kalyna as a character. I was intrigued by her priestess abilities as well as her involvement in solving paranormal crimes and would likely enjoy a series based on her particular skills. The added storylines about her soulmate, her sisters, and the goddess just got too busy for me. I can only guess that some of those details will come into play in future installments to this series.
The second book, Rebellion and Rituals, is planned but the publication date has yet to be announced.

I was initially drawn to this book by its unique premise, and the introduction to Thracian mythology was a genuine highlight. I didn't even know this lore existed before picking this up. It was such a rich, atmospheric, and fascinating vein of history that I actually started doing my own basic research about it to know more. The author’s vision for this world is clear and original, offering something truly different for the genre.
However, the execution often felt like it was missing essential groundwork. I spent the majority of the book feeling lost because the story drops you right into the middle of the action without much context. Terms like Samodiva and Yudi are used as if the reader is already an expert on the world's rules. While I eventually realized there was a glossary at the end of the book, I didn’t see it until I finished because I jumped straight into the story—it would have been much more helpful to have the description within the text itself.
My biggest struggle, though, was the FMC, Kalyna. Despite being an immortal consultant, she lacked the wisdom her age would suggest. Her severe tunnel vision regarding Stefan—driven by her obsession with his past life as her mate Dushan—made her judgment feel clouded and naive. This resulted in a romance that felt rushed and tacked on at the very end just to satisfy the plot. I nearly DNFed several times because it was difficult to root for a character whose professional logic was so easily undermined by her personal bias.
On the brighter side, I truly appreciated Kalyna’s dogged persistence. Even if her motivations were purely personal, her refusal to ignore her gut feeling and her unwavering drive to prove someone’s innocence is a quality you’d want in any real-world investigator. If you are looking for a story with top-tier mythology and a lead who never gives up on her instincts, there is definitely something here to enjoy.

Our heroine, Kalyna (Carina), is a Samodiva warrior priestess whose story is a wonderful collision of history, mythology, and fantasy. Drawing inspiration from Thracian and Bulgarian folklore, the authors create a rich world that feels both unique and authentic. The inclusion of Samodiva mythology sets this novel apart from more traditional fantasy romances and offers readers something refreshingly different. Kalyna is part Xena, part mythological heroine, fierce in battle yet deeply driven by love, duty, and sacrifice. As a paranormal investigator navigating a modern world haunted by ancient secrets, she serves as the perfect bridge between contemporary urban fantasy and centuries-old lore.
They skillfully blend action, romance, and folklore into an engaging narrative filled with high stakes and emotional depth. I was drawn in by the cover and blurb of this one hoping this would be a good fit for me. Thankfully it was. We meet Carina/Kalyna, a High Priestess for the Goddess Bendis who is looking for her soulmate. For the most part, I really enjoyed this book. At first, I wasn’t sure as a couple of things in this book bothered me. One, sometimes a chapter would start, and the action had already taken place, and we are told not shown. Thankfully, that didn’t happen often. Second thing is more something that is hard to pin down. I find the first part of the book to read like we already know this universe, so nothing has to be explained, and we are dropped in the middle of the action with an almost…mythical feel to the book. However, by the end of the book everything is explained, and I felt much more at ease with the universe, as well as taking on a more modern feel, which is more of a personal preference. All in all, this book is definitely worth a read. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

This book pulled me in from the first page. Soulmate and Sacrifice, by R. N. Aveela, features unique characters and an unexpected storyline. The protagonist, a modern-day woman who happens to be an ancient Slavic Samodiva, was compelling from the start. Kalyna is strong, capable, compassionate, and still fights for what she believes in. Thracian folklore is woven throughout the story, weaving old elements into a new world. There was also a good amount of mystery, leaving me anticipating what would happen next. It was refreshing to read a book that breaks away from other tropes, even while blending mystery, folklore, and light romance (where a heroine takes the lead). The story touches on family and friendship themes that feel all too relatable, such as loyalty, betrayal, and misunderstanding. By the end of the book, Kalyna was an engaging character I wanted to root for (and, okay, maybe wish I could be. I’ll take one snake whip, please!). I was pleasantly surprised by this book, and I look forward to the next one in the series. Bring on Rebellion and Rituals!

This one had such a cool concept, but it just didn’t fully come together for me. The story is packed with ideas—guardians who can shift into animals, reincarnated soulmates, cults, goddesses, magic rituals, and a whole mix of ancient traditions with modern tech. It sounds amazing, and honestly, that’s what pulled me in.
At the center, you’ve got this emotional thread of her trying to save her soulmate from a curse that keeps taking him from her, which I really liked. But everything around it felt kind of overwhelming. There are so many creatures, names, and moving parts that it’s hard to keep track of what’s actually important. A lot of the book leans into explanation and uncovering truths, but it doesn’t always feel like the plot is moving forward in a clear way.

I found myself on edge and afraid for what happens next to the main characters, the suspense and tension is well built.
I definitely found some parts didn't quite feel complete, mainly the who and what of the Samodiva and Yudi, even though the information was slowly put out there, and a lot of it was just assumed, I found I would struggle with understanding some scenes with lack of information. I'd love a prequel or short story of the history and how the Samodiva & Yudi came to be, and their importance to the world!
Kalyna was single point focused on her soulmate, even at the risk of herself and the sisterhood. She stopped at nothing to solve the mystery and reverse the cursed ring.
This was definitely a series I would continue, hopefully I can learn more of the Samodiva Sisterhood, and follow stories of other sisters!

Unfortunately, this one didn't fully work for me. The writing style just wasn't a good fit for my personal taste, which made it difficult to completely immerse myself in the story. I also found parts of the plot a little confusing at times, so it took me a while to follow everything that was happening.
That said, I did appreciate the unique world-building and the mythology woven into the story. The soulmate connection and the hidden truths added an interesting layer, and I can definitely see other readers enjoying this more than I did—especially if you like contemporary fantasy mixed with ancient mythology.

A book that follows our FMC as she races against time to save her someone who she believes is her soulmate. The story is a rollercoaster ride of sisterhood, murder, betrayal, loyalty, and sacrifice. Will our FMC stay loyal to her upbringing or will she turn her back and risk it all for a chance with a man that may or may not be her one true love?
It took me longer than normal to get through this ARC Every chapter is action packed, but this made it hard for me to follow. The writing seemed rushed and all over, and at times it felt like the story kept veering off into different plot line directions, which caused some confusion when following the story. I appreciated the list of characters and a brief description, as it helped understand who they were when they popped up in the book. The glossary explaining some of the words found throughout the book was another addition, which also helped. I feel I would’ve been lost and more confused had I not read the character list or the glossary.
Overall, the story has potential. The author reveals there’s another book, so I am keen to see what unfolds in book 2.

I am currently still reading the last few chapters of this book. But can I just say that this book has me in a chokehold!
The FMC is incredible as she juggles protect her lover and her duties as high priestess. she’s incredibly devoted to helping to protect the animals as well as defeat the Yudi.
The MMC has no idea why he’s so drawn to the FMC. He’s incredibly shy and withdrawn from losing his wife and child. He just wants to break whatever curse is put on this pretty blue. Lil does he know this ring comes from our one and only FMC.
This whole book had me on the edge of my seat, asking questions of what was gonna happen next. How our main characters were going to defeat what was going to happen how our goddess ended up betraying her high priestess just to keep her away from her soulmate forever. It was insane. It was captivating and I couldn’t eat it up fast enough.
I was given the opportunity to read this book prior to release and I couldn’t be more grateful!

Soulmate and Sacrifice incorporated Thracian mythology with shifters, reincarnation, cults, and magic. Lots of action and it mostly focused Kalyna reuniting with her soulmate who has been reincarnated as Stefan while trying to keep him from being arrested for murder she has no idea if he did or not.
I wish it would have had more background and world building on the mythology as it was very confusing at times who the players were and what they wanted and what their powers were. I loved the idea of the story but it was so chaotic with so much going on at all times, I feel like I missed a lot. I feel like there could be a whole book on just the world building and how the curse happened to begin with and what happened that Kalyna and her sisters needed rescuing by Bendis who turned them from humans to Samodivians. Maybe book two will have some flashbacks that will fill in the gaps better.

Absolutely intriguing, interesting read. Loved the mix of supernatural, modern, mythology, etc and the fated cursed mates, sisterhood through service and immortality of her agency and fellow Samodivis the goddess and the cult, there’s sooo many intriguing and unqiue things in the plot and setting and foundation for this book.
Absolutely looking forward to what a fantastic series this is going to be / very much hoping we get so much more Korr and details and all about everytbunf we can along with whatever other new chaos and plots the new astral calendar reading Morena passed along - SOOo many things set up I can’t wait to see where they go.
Definitely takes a minute to get going, but worth every page and minute because it’s such a fresh and unique and intriguing plot and cast of characters - cannot wait for book 2!.

Soulmate and Sacrifice by R.N. Aveela caught my interest with its blend of fantasy, romance, and mystery. I was drawn to the themes of fate, sacrifice, and the connections between souls, which gave the story an intriguing edge.
I enjoyed discovering the world the author has created and following the characters as they navigate the challenges thrown their way. There were a few moments where I would have liked more character development and a smoother flow, but overall, the story held my interest and left me curious about what comes next.
As the first book in Chosen Souls: The Cursed Ring, it sets the stage for further adventures and unanswered questions. I'm looking forward to seeing how the story develops and what the next instalment has in store.

I received this book as an ARC and I am greatful to have been chosen.
i do like that the authors make sure to put in a glossary for non-English words and a character guide. I loved the premise of the story. An FMC who was curse to never be able to keep her soulmate? Hell yeah.
I spent the entire book confused about what was going on. The only cohesive portion of the book was like the last 50 or so pages.
I get that the FMC and the MMC have a history that spans several incarnations of the MMC. I was left with a million questions and no answers because the flashbacks were written like we already know all the back story. Like... how did Carina and Dushan meet? What led up to the trauma that led Bendis to save Carina and her sisters?
Whatever story was trying to be told in this book would have benefitted from being in book 2.

This book is filled with magic, fantastical creatures, and mythology. The glossary is very helpful, but all this new vocabulary makes reading rather difficult at times.
I had a lot of trouble getting into the story at the beginning. After the first quarter, my curiosity was piqued, but I found myself confused again a few chapters later.
At one point, I felt like I was reading two separate stories. There's a murder investigation going on, then it's forgotten for a while as we return to the curse without any further mention of the murder, which was quite important at the beginning. Everything finally comes together at the end, but I found the whole thing a bit confusing.
Several aspects of the book are interesting. For me, it was mainly the part of Stefan that I liked but I didn't connect with the characters.

As someone who loves magic in books, this one delivered. The worldbuilding is rich, imaginative, and full of unique magical elements.
The story ends on a cliffhanger — the kind that made me wish the next book was available. I’m genuinely excited to see where the series goes next.
There is a very large glossary, and I found myself flipping back and forth to keep track of the terms. It slowed my pace a bit, but it also shows how much depth the author put into the world. Overall, the writing is strong, immersive, and easy to fall into once you get your footing.
If you’re a fan of magic / fantasy and a wide range of fantastical creatures, this is definitely a book you’ll want to check out.

I really enjoyed Soulmate and Sacrifice! The mix of urban fantasy, ancient mythology, mystery, and romance kept me invested from beginning to end. Kalyna is a strong, determined heroine, and watching her struggle between her duty and the man she believes is her soulmate added so much emotional depth to the story.
The Thracian mythology and cursed ring created a unique world, and the suspense had me constantly wondering what would happen next. The slow-burning romance felt natural, and I appreciated that the mystery remained at the heart of the story while the relationship developed.
If you enjoy fated mates, ancient curses, magical lore, and paranormal mysteries with plenty of twists, this is definitely one to add to your TBR. I'm looking forward to seeing where this series goes next!

4.5 starts for me!
I must say i was really surprised with this one, i ended up loving the book while short it is very satisfying.
The protagonist kalyna is flawed and is forced to make hard choices all the time which keeps it interesting. I enjoyed how resilient she was. The sister situation is very intriguing all the way to the end and the godess.... ugh such a cruel villain but there seems to be a lot more going on.
The magic sytem and folklore was also fresh for me and well done.
The only thing i felt wasnt working for me was that something the ending of chapters felt rushed to make the reader keep turning pages so that grounding could be improved a bit, it felt like it interrupted the flow sometimes.
Definitely looking forward to book 2.

Soulmate and Sacrifice was such a good read! It had everything I enjoy in a book, romance, mystery, action, and plenty of suspense. Every time I thought I knew what was going to happen, the story threw in another twist that kept me hooked.
I really enjoyed the characters and found myself cheering them on throughout the book. The romance was sweet, but the danger and mystery kept the story exciting and made it hard to put down.
If you love soulmate stories with a little adventure, magic, and mystery mixed in, this book is definitely worth picking up. It's the kind of book that makes you say, "Just one more chapter!" and then suddenly it's way past your bedtime.

As a great lover of mythology and folklore I was really drawn to the concept of this book but found the execution didn't quite fulfill my expectations. It all felt a little disjointed and a bit rushed. You are dropped right into the middle of a skirmish with very little back story or character information which left me feeling a disconnect from the characters and a lack of immersion within the world.
That being said, I did enjoy the mix of urbanism and mythology and the romantic in me loved the idea of Carina and Dushan finding each other again and again along with Carina's determination that she would get to live a whole lifetime with Dushan.

I'd probably give this 3.5 stars. I liked the concept of this book and thought it was original. Our FMC is trying to save her soulmate from a curse that she put on a ring. There is sisterhood, murder, betrayal. My main issue with the book was that the first roughly 50% of the book could have mostly been resolved by a couple of conversations. Things were drawn out and we didn't get anywhere from it, the plot really starting moving along around the 50% mark. I think there were other parts that were glossed over that would have been nice to get a little more detail. I liked it, but definitely preferred the second half of the book.

I found this story lacking. It felt like I was missing things. Apparently, we were supposed to know things or not care about the things that were missing. The connection between the characters was unbelievable. Why was their bond so strong? They were practically strangers. I also don’t think the FMC was as strong as she could have been. She wasn’t a pushover, but she just wasn’t a leader. I was not consumed with the characters so; therefore, I really wasn’t invested in what happened to them. The storyline was interesting. I just don’t think it was executed as well as it could have been.

The first few scene changes were a little confusing, with a tendency to pull you out of the story to try and figure out what is going on. However, I was very intrigued by the mysterious premise and I'm glad I hung in there. Packed with action, drama, love and betrayal, Soulmate and Sacrifice boasts a FMC who is a fantastic blend of strength and longing. The world includes many different types of magical creatures and an age old battle between good and evil. I am thrilled to see what adventures await in the next chapter of this storyline.
