She was an antiwar protester… He was headed to Vietnam… But when they met, it was love at first sight.
Spring 1967. When college dropout Kat Forbes set out for San Francisco to march in a Vietnam War protest, she never imagined she'd meet a guy who would change her life forever. He wasn’t like most men she’d ever known. He was kind and quiet, and patient as a saint with her, despite her forwardness. When she kissed him on a lark, just to prove her obstinance, she didn't expect to fall head over heels in love.
Russ James just wanted to get out of town for a few days to take a break and unwind before he reported for duty to the Army in six weeks. And then he met her. She was everything he wasn’t. In fact, they were complete opposites. So what were the chances that a reserved draftee and a rebellious protester would find common ground, mutual respect, and love? Apparently, pretty good. But they must confront their pasts before they can build a future together.
So begins Seasons of Love, a four-part novella series that tells the love story of one couple through the seasons of life—first love, mid-life marriage, retirement, and old age—as they navigate joy and heartache, and everything life has for them in between.

Retired now after a career in federal service, he spends his days writing and reading and enjoying the great outdoors with his wife or taking a nap. He loves naps. It’s when he does his best writing!
You have heard of falling in love at first sight, but does that really happen? It does in the case of Kat and Russ.
You couldn't get two people who are more opposite then these two. An anti-war protestor, free-spirited, college drop-out girl who runs into a quiet, kind, gentlemen, straight-laced man who will change her world upside down for the better.
The author gave me an advanced copy of this novella and I read it all in one night. I literally was so sucked into their relationship and how they both, despite their backgrounds, really bring out the best in each other.
While this takes place during the Vietnam War, I feel that it is definitely very relatable to today especially with people protesting about various political things. The author did a great job at showing that sometimes people who are protesting just jump on the bandwagon or just go off of vibes and not really think things through. Mr. Rezer also did a great job at showing people who have lost their faith because of something tragic happens in their life. They think that God abandoned them when He was really just along side them the whole time.
I really didn't want this book to end because I was so invested. I am happy to hear that this is a series and we will get to see more Kat and Russ through different points in their lives. Highly recommend!

I was privileged to be an ARC reader for this book - my review is my own opinion.
In short, I loved the book, so much so that I read it twice! You can read the author's blurb to see the plot line so I will just state why I enjoyed this book so much.
I lived my teenage years in the 1960s, the years of Vietnam and "Free Love." The author brings back all those memories of a tumultuous time. He captures the essence of those years and, if you didn't live those years, makes you feel as though you did. The descriptions and emotions evoked are spot on.
Rather than focusing on the pain and tears and divisiveness of that era, Author Scott Rezer focuses on the hope and beauty and the innocence that co-exists in any trying time. You will be reminded of the past if you lived it, but you will come away with a new appreciation for all that is good and hopeful in this imperfect world.
This is the story of Kat Forbes, a rebellious, book-loving, anti-war protestor whose life gets entwined with Russ James, a Christian, Boy Scouts-type guy who is taking a last trip up the California coast before heading to Vietnam. Set during the late 60’s, which was a time when many young people were protesting the war, using drugs and alcohol, and declaring their freedom from all things considered “rules” in society; this novella introduces each of their stories, with the reader joining in on the ride. You will enjoy the author’s complex layering of the characters’ personalities and look forward to the next phase of their lives.

I really enjoyed this springtime novella that brings to life sweet young love between an anti-war protester and a young man going off to the Vietnam Nam war. She has a past she’s not proud of and he’s a Christian not wanting to be unequally yoked with an unbeliever. Will they overcome their differences? Will she come to faith? Looking forward to reading the other novellas in this series!
