The subtitle in this book sums it up: motivate yourself when no one else can. It is easy to sit back, find excuses and do nothing. That just leads to further frustration. There is not a lot of new material in this book, but the author does an excellent job of summarizing what needs to be done and effective ways to implement your goals.
Collins begins by explaining procrastination, why we do it, and the damage it can cause. Next the reader is encouraged to take charge, believe in himself and take the steps to pull out of his lethargy. These include prioritizing, focusing on task, planning, breaking tasks into time blocks, and setting deadlines. Finally, the reader is encouraged to implement self-discipline, establish routines, and reward himself when successful.
This is a great little book to keep handy whenever you feel yourself slipping into the doldrums or finding your desk a helpless mire of unfinished tasks. Highly recommended for tweens, teens, and adults.
The book was a quick and easy read. For someone that tend s to get distracted often, the pace of the book kept moving as often as my mind would. Some of the tips were, "yeah, I heard that before", but useful reminder never the less. Will definitely keep nearby and possibly read it again for reassurance.
So I had this downloaded ages ago & never read it until now lol. Yes, I procrastinate! Really good tips & advice that I'm making an effort to actually use more. Time is short & tomorrow isn't promised
I thought it was a decent book as it was concise in its approach but also was everything a person whose read on this topic knows to do. There were a few new points though that I would like to try.
A great book for those like myself who procrastinate. I've tried a few of their tips and it works. Main thing that this book require is self discipline
The spirit of laziness has lost it's battle in me. When I read the title of this book, I knew it was time for me to put a lot of things in order that would save my life and ministry that I discovered and pastored for 19 years. You probably say, "that's a little too drastic", and I would say nooo… everything in this book had my face stamped on it. That's why I can say the spirit of laziness has lost its battle in me.
There's were so many nuggets in this book but the following three topics really stood out and touched me: a. What procrastination really is in a nutshell. b. What's the real reason why we procrastinate. c. And, the damaging effects procrastination has upon you and those around you.
I like the way the Author wrote it, "Make your someday to today. Your dreams will remain dreams unless acted upon by an outside force. (Law of Inertia!) Everybody wants to improve their life but most of the time, it remains just a “want.” You must put your time, effort and sometimes money to make it happen."
I can say before you get to the end of this book, you will be more motivated to change the way you get things done in a timely manner and be more productive to achieve those goals that were in your yesteryear.
I recommend this book to all the procrastinators in the world to break the habit of being a life long procrastinator. Get off the couch - go and exercise those muscles. Get out the house - get some fresh air. Start that project God was tugging on your heart for the longest time. Start that support group that needs your council. Go on that trip you always wanted to go on. Go back to school to get that degree…you get the picture.
My Leaving Thoughts: Stop putting off...what you can accomplish today so you can see, walk and live in a better tomorrow.
The book seemed like a weekend project with no time to even be proofread. However, I'd thank the author for taking the effort, this being an important issue that most, if not all of us grapple with. While a lot of the suggestions were ordinary or stuff we know, I did find 1-2 ideas that are useful, such as: When you're avoiding getting started on something, one shouldn't focus on the task itself, but instead on just the next 10 minutes of getting into it or starting it. Eg.: if you're feeling lazy about going to the gym, don't think about the workouts themselves, but rather of just getting dressed and getting out the door. The rest will just be an incremental effort and not as big as imagining hitting the gym. Then there was one I usually follow, where, quoting the book, "for a thrill of competition, push yourself a little to your limits. If you are supposed to finish a task by 30 minutes, try to hit it in 20 minutes."
I enjoyed reading this book. It has helped me too see some areas in my daily routine where I PROCRASTINATE.. It gave some very helpful tips that I'm going to implement RIGHT NOW!... Thank to the Author K Collins for these life changing lessons.
Very simple book. This book was straight to the point and served as a jump start for motivation. I will read again as a quick motivation booster. Decent read.
