Love Hack #1

Breaching His Defenses

Rate this book
What happens in Vegas...could destroy careers and break hearts. A chance encounter in a karaoke bar should have been just a fling for Jared Tippins and Mikki Elford. A smoking hot, memories last forever fling, but still just a fling. Except she works for the competition, and the competition has been up to no good. This fun contemporary romance is book one in Allyson Lindt's sexy new Love Hack series.

Years ago, heartbreak corrupted Jared Tippins’s outlook on love. He spun the betrayal into a rapid climb up the corporate ladder, and swore off any relationship with a morning after. Luckily, the playful siren who rescues him from singing a duet alone in a karaoke bar doesn’t want anything long term. If only he could stop fantasizing about ways to make her moan. Sure, she could’ve mentioned he works for the competition. At least she’s not behind the security concerns that have plagued his company for almost six months.

If she were, he’d be screwed on a whole new level.

Mikki Elford is determined to have the fun she missed out on when she fast-tracked her way through college. But school had its upside, too. She’s qualified to legally hack corporate networks. Best job ever. She also gained an appreciation for the legends in computing — Gates, Jobs, and Tippins. When she meets Jared Tippins and realizes he’s sexy and fluent in programming languages older than she is, no consequence will dissuade her from an impromptu fling. Fortunately, he doesn’t mind that six months ago she compromised his network to land her job.

Oh, crap! He doesn't know.

I haven't read many books with this type of hero but for me brainy is also very sexy. Because my hubye is a total computer geek (he likes to call himself programmer but he's a geek :P) I was very curious about this one and...

description

Recently I was rather disappointed in a the books I got from NetGalley unless they where from an author I already read and loved so imagine my surprise when I started reading this book, actually enjoying it and finding that I couldn't put it down no matter what :P

description

Jared is a legend in the IT world and has made a name for himself...but things are not going well in the last months so he and his friends and coworkers are determined to turn things around and what better time to do it then at an IT conference in the city that never sleeps...Vegas :D

description

Mikki is hacker with a degree and paid to do just that. So when she flirts and has an one night stand with the man whose company servers she hacked 6 months ago things can't possibly go bad. Right?

description

Curious what happens when the truth comes out? If the answers is yes then you should definetlly pick up this book.

description

It is a little predictable at times and a little flat in the action department but all in all I really enjoyed it and I hope you will to :D

ARC received for review

There was lots of chemistry between Jared and Mikki, but the issues had me dizzy at times. And would she confess already and quit dragging it out. The cover had me thinking this was going to be erotica, but it was just hot sex. His bff's were great, and look forward to their stories especially if Tate hooks up with Alyssa, Jared's sister.

What happens in Vegas never actually stays in Vegas…

Mikki and Jared are both computer nerds working for rival companies. But when they meet by chance in the elevator of their hotel, their instant attraction sets off sparks that neither can deny.

A few shared Karaoke songs later and these two share a very steamy and memorable encounter in a private booth that leads them both down a very rocky journey of love, acceptance and second chances.

This was such low key angsty romance, it had some drama but nothing heartbreaking or soul crushing which can be perfect if you’re just coming off some dark, twisty reads 😊 The chemistry was of the slow burn variety.

Mikki’s past (which she thinks Jared knows about, but later finds out he doesn’t!) is the biggest hurtle they have to face. It doesn’t help that her role in things mirrors the betrayal of Jared’s ex and brings up a lot of unwanted memories that cloud Jared’s mind for a brief moment. Like I said earlier, this one is very low angst even though there is a few scenes were the tension runs high. The fact that neither one can stay away from the other saves this from being a long drawn out will they/won’t they type of scenario.

There’s no long separation or drawn out mopey characters who lament the what if’s. At least, not for very long! I really liked both Jared and Mikki and found their insta-love connection believable. It wasn’t just physical with them, they genuinely liked and respected what was on the inside as well as the outside 😊

Only fault is the zero mention of what happened (if anything) to Mikki’s two faced boss. I can hold a mean grudge in fictional worlds so I wish we’d gotten an update on his unethical, blackmailing ass!

This could easily have been a 5 star read if the conflict wasn’t dragged out the way it was. It wasn’t some huge mystery plot twist so to take up that much space in the book and drag it to almost the end was frustrating! However, everything else about this book was super good lol

This was a whirlwind that took place in the span of like four days. Mikki really showed her naivete early on and illustrated just how living in the now and being impulsive potentially set her up for failure later on. Question though: wasn't she enough of a tech geek to hear of the rumours concerning Jared's company? I know she had no friends as such but how was it possible for her not to at least keep her finger on the pulse of the tech world? That was the most troubling thing for me from the start. Jared on the other side of the coin was a bit too staid at 33. Why was he in the rut? He sounded more like someone who fell into technology and stayed there because he was comfortable, not because he had a passion for it. And that made him boring and uninteresting as a character for me. All he had going for him was his hotness factor; nothing else. It was very forgiving of Tate and Viv though, well more so Viv, to still want Mikki as an employee. All in all this was a predictable novel but not a bad read.

Another fabulous novel by the wonderful Allyson Lindt.

Jared Tippins is a man who knows what he wants and just how far he is willing to go to get it. When he was burned by a woman he trusted, he uses her betrayal to fuel his vengeance. Instead of choosing to get even, he uses his intelligence and computer knowledge to show her that he can succeed on his own.

Mikki Elford has admired Jared's work ever since she first learned about his whiz kid abilities while she was in college. When she meets her hero, sparks fly and these two have a sexual chemistry that nearly melted my Kindle.

But she has a secret...one that she thought Jared already knew about.

But he doesn't...how can she explain herself without driving him away?

Good #GeekLove story

I liked this story about Mikki and Jared who works for two different companies and find together at a convention. Many I would have liked it more if it had contained more feelings, it felt a little flat at times but don't get me wrong; I enjoyed it very much.
The writing style is easygoing and sweet with some hotness at occasions. I shuffled between reading and listening and the voice reading was good too although not perfect.
There are not any unnecessary descriptions of surroundings and a good amount of dialogues so I was kept interested throughout the story.
It's still a HEA if it's the first in a series and I do like those kind of series. So I would gladly read the next.
Good 4 stars read.

A very suitable title with its double meaning. The romance in this book was so simple direct, no bullshit and very refreshing. The main characters are in the same filled of work but one takes it seriously the other is determined to enjoy herself, and ehr life. Their two worlds crush and the H is pulled into the h life and her love of living. Simple wonderful read.

Allyson Lindt's "His Hacker" (formerly "Breaching His Defenses") is the fifth tale in the Love Games series, which is a series of standalones. I love Jared & Mikki's story! I could read about them over and over. Mikki seems like a total fox...she's my new woman crush! As always, the nookie scenes are crazy sexy hawt, hawt, hawt. Grab your BOB, you will need it. I can't wait to read the next one!

Fun and fast-paced, Allyson Lindt knows her way around both contemporary romance and the high tech world she's writing about. Her characters are both believable and sympathetic, and the sex scenes are sizzling. The Las Vegas setting is not well utilized, serving more as an it-could-be-anywhere backdrop for the tech convention to be held, and although she tries to add touches of place when the characters walk around town, it fell a little flat if only because I've been to Vegas and the setting didn't feel true.

Luckily, most of the action happens inside the convention center and their hotel rooms, which are interchangeably ubiquitous. Written in alternating he said/she said third person POVs, the character interactions and conversations are well written and spot on, and the sex scenes sizzle. The main conflict is an event that happened six months prior to the start of the story, and the main characters have totally different understandings of the issue. As in, Jared has no idea that Mikki hacked his company's security during an interview for a rival tech company.

The author makes the story accessible to all but adding little touches and inside nods to her techie readers that slip by the average reader (thus, the "insider" nature, I guess.) (i.e. the reference to dreaming in two hundred and fifty six bytes) (which stuck with me because I got it. I'm sure I didn't get all of it, which almost makes me want to go back and read it again.)

Fast paced, I started and finished this book Saturday, and almost clicked back to Amazon to buy the second book in the series so I could keep reading these characters. Alas, feeding the family won out over reading a second book, but I would definitely read more from this author.

The story of Jared and Mikki was a very nice romance. They seem to have little in common, until a karaoke bar comes into the picture. Jared is a workaholic geek and Mikki is a girl trying to become more adventurous. She goes up on stage to bail Jared out when his friends pick a duet for him to sing, even though he is alone . They end up singing song after song together and a little more in a "practice" room.
Unfortunately, Mikki has a secret that could break them apart. She doesn't even realize it is a secret, but that would ruin the story for you, so I am not going to tell you any more. It is a typical messed up romance story. And it has sequels...

Very boring and rushed

I could not get past the second chapter of this book. The plot seemed interesting enough as they are both programmers, but the book read like something a teenager would write for an English assignment. I really hate when authors make their female leads weak and unable to think about ANYTHING but their male leads within SECONDS of meeting them. It’s really quite exasperating.

Maybe I will force myself to read through the rest of this book, but it is no time in the foreseeable future.

The way Allyson builds the characters and storyline, I had such a vivid image of what she was creating and enjoyed it like a movie. Mikkie and Jared were such a fun and sexy couple, I wasn’t ready for the end to come. Even geeks can be sexy! I am usually an avid suspense reader but I was still pulled along for the ride even without the fear of the life or death situations. Making me really have to think and figure it out along with Mikkie and Jared. Definitely recommend to someone looking for a #geeklove read.

Almost a little too much geek

I guess when I was thinking geek love it was like an insanely smart cute college guy. Which while Jared is still insanely smart and cute this isn’t a college setting. Mikki is the younger version of Jared in a way she’s super smart and willing to prove herself. The story got pretty in-depth with chaos hackers and Trojan horses and technical terms that are a little bit over my head. But it’s a great story and I like that they end up together there was plenty of hot to go around and it’s a good love story.

Loved this book! ! Just purely from the Geek point of view, I found it's background story, more than plausible. The romantic side was amusing and human, down to earth and raw.
For a book with it all: romance, hot sexual encounters, Corporate Espionage, and a touch of Geek, this book was great.
After reading a number of Ms Lindt's books, I must admit that I am becoming a fan.

In my search of finding fun and trashy books to read, Breaching His Defences by Allysin Lindt appeared to me in the 'free' section of ibooks. And fun and trashy it was - I finished it all in one night! Cheesy, chaotic and predictable, yet surprisingly well written. It was a romance with all the fun, but no weird male gaze or blatantly sexist tropes (honestly I have to give it props for that- it's hard to avoid in romance).
I won't read it again anytime soon, but I did enjoy my experience.

Nerdy romance with HEA

I don’t like to give spoilers on the books that I read. I believe the blurb on the back is enough for you to decide if you will read the book or not. If you choose to read, enjoy!
