In The Coopers, family power meets forbidden passion, and one wrong move can cost you the team… or your heart. Perfect for fans of the ruthless tension of Succession and the dark, aching obsession of Wuthering Heights. At thirty-six, Fin Graham is a legend, a veteran quarterback, dangerously handsome, and built to win. The field. The season. Me. I never thought I’d see him again, not after he disappeared and shattered me without a word. But now he’s been traded onto my family’s team, the Lexington Coopers—my turf, my legacy, and the one place I swore he’d never touch. No one knows our past. No one knows how hard I loved him… or how deep the betrayal cut. And if I have any sway with the team’s owner—my father—Fin’s contract will be the shortest in franchise history. But the problem with old heartbreaks? They remember how to start beating again. Fin wants a second chance. I want revenge… or maybe I just want him. And the time clock is almost out. With the future of the Lexington Coopers on the line, we have to decide if we’re working together or against one another.

In a fantastic second chance romance, the daughter and only child of the owner and CEO of the NFL team, The Lexington Coopers, Vee is pouring all her time into learning the ins and outs of the football side of the team. She’s got the business side down but her dad wants her to know the team and football dynamics as well. She spends her nights studying the playbook and her days at practice or on the sideline at the games, cheering on her team and building rapport with the players. In comes Griffin “Fin” Graham, veteran Quarterback and the boyfriend that broke her heart back in college. It’s been 14 years since they last spoke or saw each other and while he’s made it clear he wants her back, she’s not quick to forgive.
One great aspect of this book was that there was a lot of football action. Most sports books just kind of mention that they go to practice or are traveling for games but Aleatha explains so much of the game and you could really picture being out on the field with the team. Another great component of this book is that, while most romances end with a HEA and move onto the next couple, this one ended on a crazy cliffhanger that not only did I not see coming but also brought tears to my eyes!! Finally, the tension between these two main characters was so thick you could cut it with a knife and I was glued to my kindle praying they got back together. Do they?? You’ll have to read to find out! I definitely recommend this book and am already fiending for the next book in the Coopers saga!
When Aleatha Romig sits down to pen a book, you should always expect the unexpected, and Intercepted delivers exactly that in more ways than one.
Football, yes!!! And not just a locker room full of horny players. The intricacies of the game are woven into the story in a way that actually matters, which was a refreshing and welcome surprise.
The intrigue? Off the charts. You already know it’s going to be some mess… but this time, it hits differently.
And the lies! Because of course someone, somewhere, is lying about something. That constant question of who’s telling the truth keeps the tension tight from start to finish.
Trust or mistrust plays a major role here. There’s always that one person balancing on the edge of do we trust them or not? and Aleatha makes you feel every ounce of that uncertainty.
The passion? Oh, it’s absolutely there, and lawd have mercy. Vee and Fin bring it from past to present.
And let’s talk about that cliffhanger!!! Why do I always end up needing to call or message Aleatha for a therapy session when I finish one of her books?
Add all of this together…football, intrigue, lies, passion, and jaw-dropping cliffhangers, and you haven’t just read a book.
✨ Rating: 4⭐️ 🫧 Vibes: legacy and power dynamics 🎶 Song: the last great american dynasty - taylor swift 📖 Favourite Quote: "I’d found an unexpected home with the coopers, and more importantly, Vee and I made our way back to one another." 📚 Would I recommend? yes! 💬 tldr thoughts: I am a massive fan of Dynasty and family legacy shows, so this was right up my alley.
In the package: 📦 second chance 📦 family legacy 📦 workplace romance
Plot: Vee is the only child and daughter of the owner and CEO of the NFL team, The Lexington Coopers. She's next in line to become one of the CEOs once her father steps down. He wants her to learn more about football on the field rather than the business side. Enter Fin, who has just joined the team who is also her ex-boyfriend from college. They haven't seen each other in 14 years but he's here to win her back.
Thoughts: Do I enjoy football? Absolutely not. Do I enjoy reading about it? Hell YEAH. This book dives deeply into both the on-field details of football and the behind the scenes business of managing a professional team. At times it was a little heavy on the football jargon and I wasn't entirely sure I was following. But other than that, I really enjoyed this read. It felt more like a legacy drama book (think Succession) rather than a sports romance which is what made it really interesting. I loved seeing Vee trying to navigate a male-dominated field and how much of a badass she was. She's ambitious and never backs down from a challenge.
THE AUDACITY OF THAT ENDING THOUGH. Oh my gosh how I wish I had book 2 in my hands. I thought it was weird when I saw 90% on my kindle and there wasn't much resolution and then BAM. It just ends on a cliffhanger. I NEED ANSWERS.
Thank you Hambright PR and Aleatha Romig for the eARC!
As a lover of sports romance, I was excited for Aleatha's new football series, Intercepted. This second-chance story immediately pulled me in. The two main characters, Griffin or Fin Grant, aging quarterback, is given a year-long contract for the Lexington Cooper's NFL team, which his former college girlfriend's family owns. Maeve or Vee Hubbard is against her family signing Fin but her concerns are ignored. Vee's and Fin's love-story ended on a sour-note over 20 years ago when Fin transferred from the University of Kentucky. Even though he promised they wouldn't drift apart, Fin ended up ghosting Vee with no reason known to Vee. Fin was Vee's first love, but she has moved on to a successful career with her father's team and is working on learning all things football in preparation to eventually become the president of the Cooper's when her father retires. As you can imagine, Fin and Vee come in contact with each other frequently, and although Fin was hurt by something Vee did in the past, his feelings for her did not change.
Intercepted builds the framework for Vee's life in football operations, and how Fin and Vee work on rebuilding their relationship to the people they are now and forgiving each other from mistakes in the past. Intercepted is interesting, rich in story, and is heavy on the game of football in general. Vee's and Fin's chemistry is hot and fun to read as they try to navigate themselves as adults. Intercepted is book one in the Cooper's series and does end on a (huge) cliffhanger.
If you haven't been "Aleatha'd", what are you waiting for?
This is a different world than I've read from Romig before and I loved it!
At thirty-one, Mauve, or Vee as she likes to be called, knows what she wants. As the daughter of the owner of a football team, she's now asked to learn more about the playing side of the team, not just the operations. The only problem, her college ex was just signed as a second-string quarterback and there are some unresolved feelings there. Griffin, or Fin as he's known, found out after he transferred who Vee really was and he has his own thoughts about that. But they're now working together and, while there's technically no rule against it, there may be some moral issues. So just when Vee was about to tell her father about this relationship, the book leaves off on a cliffhanger.
This is book one of four for Vee and Fin and there are many questions as to where their relationship will go with how the book ended.
I loved how strong a person Vee was and she knew what she wanted out of life. I do wonder if the guy she was seeing at the beginning of the book will be a problem in later books, or if we're pretty much done with him. I could see him coming out for money, even though his family has money. I can't wait to see what issues Vee's relatives bring as well. It seems like there were more of them that knew about the changes to come and it will be interesting to see what they try for manipulations. Or contesting of her dad's will. Or if Fin will stick around now that Vee has more responsibilities.
I received an advance review copy from Hambright PR, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I devoured this book! Sports romance, second chance romance, and fantastic writing….. heck yea!
Vee, daughter of the owner of NFL team Lexington Coopers, and Fin, veteran quarterback within the NFL, are reconnected when Fin is offered a one year contract to come play for the Coopers. These two have a history that didn’t end on the best of terms, but their chemistry has not sizzled in the least. What ensues is difficult family dynamic, confrontation of truths, sizzling chemistry, and lots of good football!
That ending, bittersweet. I can’t imagine what is going to evolve being this is a four-book series, and knowing Aleatha’s awesome writing, I’m sure we’ll be holding our breaths in anticipation with all the curves she’ll throw at us. I can’t wait to find out!
Intercepted by Aleatha Romig is the first book in the Cooper Series, and it does not disappoint. I am not a huge football fan, yet this book pulled me in and had me begging for more. Intercepted does dive a little into football, but its focus is on Vee and Fin and the family's dynamics, with secondary characters. I loved the interactions between Vee and Fin, the emotions and misunderstandings, and how each reaction is real. Fin has an opportunity to be signed by a new team, and playing football for the team isn't the only benefit of joining. Vee has worked hard to learn the inner workings of running a football franchise, not only the business side but also how to call plays. I can not wait to read more into their story- because we all know it's going to be a ride.
Not a fan of football? You will be now! This is not just a love story between Vee and Fin but a love letter to football. Maeve ‘Vee’ Hubbard is the heir apparent of the Lexington Coopers football dynasty. Griffin ‘Fin’ Graham is their newly signed quarterback. Few know of their history. And oh, what a history it is. Their young love is ruined by his drive and her secrets. When they are reunited sparks reignite and maybe, just maybe, they can find love again. The shocking end of this installment proves once again that Aleatha Romig has many more surprises in store for us in this new series.
I absolutely loved the start of this new series! Levi and Magnolia have known eachother their entire lives, since she's his sister bff. He's had a crush on her for what seems like forever, admired her from afar, since she's married and he's younger. Now that she's going thru a rough time, a terrible divorce and needs someone to lean on, he is there for her. What started as a friend helping a friend out turned into so much more. Absolutely loved Levi, he is exactly what she needs.
I have to confess I know nothing about football so I skimmed those passages unless I needed to know in which case I asked my husband who is a die hard fan. Having said all that, my lack of knowledge did not stop me from loving the story. The main characters are so well portrayed and you know who to like and who not to like immediately. I am not sure where the story is going yet but I am looking forward to the journey
