There were parts of this one I guessed, while others surprised me. The one big surprise was Jennifer's background. Once I knew that I guessed a lot that came next. I liked how Brodie stood up for Jennifer to his brothers, that he drew a line in the sand about her and they needed to deal with that. The trouble that came with Jennifer was both what I thought, but with a twist with who was involved. With all the things the McGuires learned about how their parents were connected it will be interesting to see where things go from here.
I stumbled on this series, and I have loved the books I’ve read so far.
Six years ago, Brodie McGuire was serving in the military and was a SEAL. He was sent in to recrew Jennifer Wesley who was a hostage. His orders were to get the hostage out alive. The chemistry between Brodie, and Jennifer was instant. They gave in to passion for a moment and said good bye. Brodie would never forget Jennifer.
Now Brodie is out of the military and working with his brothers as a PI, at McGuire securities. I love how the brothers work as a team and is always there for one another even when they don’t agree. Jennifer was in trouble and needed Brodie’s help. Someone was after her. The plot was good and had a lot of twist and turns. The action and suspense were excellent. Throughout the story I loved the bond between Brodie, and Jennifer. He would do anything for Jennifer, and everyone could see how much he cared for her. Jennifer herself was a strong heroine. She would rather take a bullet than have anyone get hurt because of her.
As a Navy SEAL Brodie McGuire had his orders: get the hostage out alive. Once he got Jennifer Wesley to safety the terror and need they felt ignited into passion. Brodie is haunted by the memories of the night Jennifer and he spent together after the mission was over. He never expected to see the Louisiana society girl again. Now she has show up at McGuire Securities.
It has been six years since Jennifer’s life was saved by Brodie. She finds that she needs his protection again. The problem is that Brodie doesn’t know who she really is. Their attraction flares while they are on his family’s Texas ranch and it takes them over the edge. Suddenly Jennifer’s violent past is exploding into the present. She has to find a way to earn Brodie’s trust or else her deadly secrets will get them both killed.
This story picks up a few months after the first one ended. The action from the first book keeps pace in this book and never stops. This story has so many twists and turns that the reader won’t know if they are coming or going. While some of the answers are found for the central mystery that weaves the stories together there are still a lot of questions. The book has a very satisfying ending with no cliffhangers other than the central mystery. This story will also have readers wishing they didn’t have to wait months for the next book to come out. It will have readers wanting several characters getting their own books so that readers can see how things work out for each and every one of them. This is a book that readers will read in one sitting.
The book was good but first book was more interesting. Didn't like Jennifer much. But this book really made me curious about Ava and Mark.I hope they get their own book.
Overall, I enjoyed the book but it was quite predictable. I would have liked to see more character development and more layers/details to Brodie and Jennifer’s relationship. I still had a lot of questions about Jennifer’s past that wasn’t quite clear. Also, the author’s style of switching from 1st person to 3rd person was a bit confusing. As well as, the switching from different POV. Sometimes I didn’t know who POV it was until the end of the paragraph and I would have to reread to make sure I’d understand everything.
I’ve loved each book in this series so far. Jennifer comes to Brodie for protection, who’s after her. He’s saved her before and they still have feelings for each other. Loved the suspense level, and felt for Brodie as he’s still trying to find out who murdered his parents. Loved being surprised by the plot and happy they got their happy ever after. I highly recommend this book.
Ok read. I expected the heroine to be a badass... ghost spy and all...
OTT, very OTT. But still better than the average. CE is a good author.
Plot holes. In the 1st book their sister was 17 as their parents were killed, in this one she was 16... I guess I'll find out soon, her book is the next.
The characters in this book are unfolded in a wonderful way. The suspense is gripping. The romance is on a rough road but enjoyable. I love this book and this series!
The only thing I can say is I could have done without chapter 12...waste of space in my opinion. But overall I really enjoyed the book and it's story. Would have been a 5 star without chapter 12.
The more I delve into this series, the more I love the McGuire boys!! Their strength, their loyalty, their fierce protective streaks, AND their cold-as-ice attitudes toward anyone who threatens or harms those they love.
This book focuses on Brodie McGuire, a Navy SEAL, reconnecting with Jennifer Wesley, a woman he rescued six years earlier on a mission in the Middle East. She's in trouble again, but could she also BE trouble for Brodie and his family now that she's reappeared?
There's lots of intrigue here as Brodie and his brothers try to figure out exactly what's going on with Jennifer. As the title says, there are plenty of secrets to go around. There's also plenty of heat and chemistry between Brodie and Jennifer!
I liked that the book kept me guessing as to how the pieces of the puzzle could fit together. It doesn't take much to draw me in, and I don't spend a lot time trying solve the puzzles in these kinds of books; I just let things unfold as they will and enjoy the ride. As long as I am entertained, I am a very happy girl and this series definitely delivers in that department!
Very good book. Six years earlier, when Brodie was still a SEAL, his mission had been to rescue Jennifer. He got to her right before she was going to be killed. There had been an immediate flare of attraction between them, which they gave in to, but then it was over. Brodie never expected to see her again.
Now Jennifer has shown up at the security firm that he and his brothers run. She is being stalked and Brodie is the only one she feels she can trust. But in order for him to protect her properly, she's going to have to come clean about her past.
Brodie had never forgotten Jennifer and often wondered how she was. His protectiveness kicked in when she came to him for help, and the attraction flared hot again immediately. When he found out the truth about her past, he had a brief period of wondering if she could be trusted, but that didn't last too long. I loved watching him stand up for her to his brothers, and how he got them involved in helping too. Brodie's passion and protectiveness grew to the point where he realized that his heart was involved also. He swore that he wouldn't let her walk away again.
Jennifer was an amazing woman. She had been an undercover agent for years, until she couldn't stand the life anymore. She, too, had never forgotten Brodie. As she revealed her past to him, she was worried that it would drive him away from her. As the danger increased, she felt guilty about the trouble she had brought to his family. Her love for him grew to where she'd rather leave him than have him and the family hurt because of her. I loved seeing them come together, and trust each other to be what they needed.
The action and suspense in the book was great. From the moment that Jennifer reappeared in his life, the action didn't stop. I figured out part of the stalker problem pretty quickly, but there ended up being more to it. The additional danger was intense and the final confrontation kept me riveted until I was through it. There were some interesting twists, including a possible connection between Jennifer and Brodie's parents. There was a surprise player in the trouble that Jennifer was having, and we're left hanging a bit about what his complete involvement was. There's also a new clue in the deaths of the Maguire's parents that is a lead in to the next book.
Brodie, one of the McGuire twins, saved Jennifer's life years ago. He had never been able to forget her, and now she's back. Someone is stalking her, and she has no family, no friends, no one to turn to except Brodie. As for him, he can't believe she is back in his life. He has dreamed about her for years and longed for her. He is definitely not going to let anyone hurt her now.
Danger catches up to Jennifer quick, and she doubts her decision to seek out Brodie once she realizes he and his brothers are in danger because of her. She wants to leave, but Brodie doesn't intend to ever let her go. Details arise linking Jennifer to Brodie's parents and their unsolved murder. Things become very complicated, and one problem morphs into several. Brodie and Jennifer won't stop until they catch the stalker, and the McGuire brothers will be there to back then up.
This is the first book I've read by this author and, it won't be the last. There was a lot of action and suspense in this book. A bunch of hot moments, so many secrets. Lots of characters to love, I have to read more about the McGuire brothers!
Jennifer has so many secrets that she can't share. She is running from a stalker and finds herself face to face with Brodie, who she hasn't seen for six years. Last time she saw him, he had saved her, loved her, then let her go. Jennifer is strong, strong willed, protective. I liked her a lot.
I loved Brodie! He's strong, determined, loyal. I love how he would do anything for his family. Jennifer walks back into his life after six years of wondering. He let her go once before, he's determined not to let her go twice.
Being stalked, Jennifer Wesley goes to the one person she feels she can trust, Brodie McGuire, who had saved her 6 years ago.
Brodie is thrilled to have her in his life once again. She was the "one that got away" and he plans to keep her around.
Brodie and his brothers become embroiled in a quest to find out who is stalking Jennifer and attempting to kill her.
Will they be able to save her before the killer can get to her? Will secrets be revealed and answered? The ending was a bit of a surprise to me and now I'm curious to find out the direction the brothers will take in order to find out who killed their parents.
In this second book of The Battling McGuire Boys we meet one of the twins, Brodie. A lady that he had a one night stand with years ago comes to him at the PI office for help. He has never forgotten Jennifer..Little does he know she has many secrets. He is trying to unravel them to figure out who is coming for her. Who is trying to kill her.. Brodie and Jennifer's passions are just as hot as they were many moons ago. She only feels safe with Brode but the sherrif takes her too a safe house to help out but he has been blackmailed by the killer. A big mess up that has you turning the pages to see who is doing what and how they are going to be stopped. A great book
Cynthia Eden is a wonderful Harlequin Intrigue Writer; she has a exciting and fast paced series in THE BATTLING McGUIRE BOYS book #2 in the series SECRETS. Book 2 deals with a hostage that was saved 6 years ago and now is back for protection from someone that wants her died badly. But the love of family will test those bonds and friend they thought were friend for life are ready to betray them for money and silence.
I'm a big Leigh Court fan, and The Disciplinarian is a classic romantic story. I was rooting for Jared & Clarissa the whole story, but at the black moment I thought there was no way these two would end up together! I practically devoured the last few pages to see just how it could possibly have a happy ending! A great read!!
Jennifer has a stalker after her. She goes to Brodie because he rescued her once before. Brodie is a former Navy SEAL and his brothers own a security business and has been investigating their parents death for six years. Someone is helping her stalker and he'll stop at nothing to get to her. Great story. Awesome characters. Plenty of hot scenes.
Our heroine is an ex-spy with an amazing encounter with Brodie a navy seal. The espionage as well as the murder if Brodie's parents keeps the plot speeding along. The writing is clean and convincing. Jennifer is an intriguing character, with a quiet strength. Recommend.
An ok book. Years ago Brodie McGuire and Jennifer Wesley met. (He rescued her) They had ONE night together. Now years later she needs his protection again. Want and need flare up, etc. I just didn't buy this book in the series. I didn't like Jennifer and didn't understand how the two really got together again.
"Eden’s latest is full of high-octane suspense, fast action, a steamy romance and a mystery ending that will whet readers’ appetites for the next installment. The McGuire brothers are proving to be quite the alpha males" (RT Book Reviews, 4 stars).
Brodie's story was non stop suspense and excitement from the get go. Jennifer was a superb heroine. Questions about the past answered leading to more questions. Loved the book, can't wait to read the next one.
