The Pretty Broken
She was my world, and then she was gone.
Chloe was my high school sweetheart, and we were destined to be together forever. At least that's what I thought.
We married. She got pregnant. My company began to take off. Everything was shaping up to be the perfect life.
Then she was taken from me on a stormy day, leaving me with our infant daughter and so much grief it was killing me.
I spent years drowning my sorrows in a bottle of whiskey, focusing on my company.
Nothing else mattered to me anymore.
Until she came back into my life.
Sasha.
Chloe’s little sister.
She wasn’t so little anymore, though.
No longer was she the awkward teen I remembered.
She was a full-grown woman, and she was the new nanny I had to hire because everyone else refused to work for me.
I didn’t expect to feel the way I did.
I tried to fight it.
But things happened that I couldn’t take back.
Things that made me a monster.
Things that broke us both even more.
Sometimes redemption is found in the pain and grief.
And sometimes, it’s found where we least expect it.
For us?
We found it in the broken pieces.
The Pretty Broken is an M/F full-length standalone romance. It is part of the Chaos Universe, but can be read at any time as it doesn’t interfere with the main story.

This could have been one of the angstiest books I've ever read with the widower/dead sister's husband plotline, but something fell short. I enjoyed the writing, but the relationship itself didn't reach its full potential. I get the hero was grieving, but he was too much of an asshole to the heroine and his own little daughter who basically lost both parents and all other relatives when her mother died. Also, I get the lust between Roman and Sasha, but how am I supposed to believe he fell in love that quick after everything he did and said? I just needed more time with them slowly getting to know each other and definitely higher stakes. Also, let me just say that this book definitely won't be everyone's cup of tea, since it has quite a few explicit scenes of Roman fucking other women, including after meeting the heroine.

Just okay
The pretty broken is probably my least favorite of K.G. Reuss books.
The tension between the two characters doesn't start until 40% in. The beginning is repetitive with meaningless trists, and surface level relationships.
The MMC is an ass and he's hard to like.
Its a very simple plot that at times, I was bored.
I'm still a fan of her books just not this one.

I haven't started on the Chaos Universe yet, but that is definitely in my plans immediately. I saw this one recommended that it was in the universe but could be read as a standalone, so I was intrigued.
Wow, this story is a perfect display of finding a second chance at love, maybe in the most unexpected of places. It takes tragedy to show the true path for our characters, but you keep rooting for them the whole time.
Roman and Sasha's story is one that I won't forget for a while, if ever. I recommend it wholeheartedly. It is steamy at times, heart breaking at others, and so much love wrapped up in this story.

This book wrecked me in the best way possible. The Pretty Broken might honestly be one of the angstiest books I’ve ever read and I mean that as the highest compliment. Widower. Dead wife’s sister. Second chance at love. Forbidden tension. If any of those tropes make your heart ache even a little, buckle up this story does not hold back.
From the very first pages, the heaviness hits out of nowhere. Roman is drowning in grief, guilt, and self destruction, trapped in an impossible situation where moving on feels like the ultimate betrayal. He pushes everyone away and chooses darkness because it’s easier than facing the pain. Sasha his sister-in-law is grieving too, desperate to escape her own reality and still reeling from the loss of her older sister.
Everything escalates when Sasha becomes Sophia’s live in nanny. Roman has been emotionally absent, leaving his daughter who has already lost her mother and essentially her entire world starving for love and stability. Sasha steps in, determined to be there for her niece, and suddenly proximity changes everything. The forbidden nature of their connection creates insane tension every look, every touch, every moment crackling with temptation, grief, and self loathing.
This book takes you down a dark, emotionally charged road filled with self sabotage, raw desire, heartbreak, and hard earned redemption. Fair warning: this won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. Roman is deeply flawed, and there are explicit scenes of him sleeping with other women even after meeting Sasha. It’s messy. It’s uncomfortable. And that’s exactly what makes it feel so painfully real.
If you love emotionally intense reads that don’t shy away from the ugly parts of grief, love, and healing and you’re willing to go on the journey this book is absolutely worth it. Bonus points for the little Easter eggs featuring some of the guys from Black Falls High. If you know, you know. 💔🔥

Roman Ford is a man destroyed by the death of his pregnant wife, Chloe. While their daughter Sophia survives, Roman is too haunted by grief to be a real father, choosing instead to drown his sorrows in whiskey and meaningless flings.
The real drama starts when Sasha, Chloe’s younger sister, becomes Sophia’s live-in nanny. The "forbidden" nature of their relationship creates insane tension. Roman is frequently a jerk, trying to push Sasha away through cruelty and even staging a scene with another woman specifically to break Sasha’s heart and make her quit.
Despite his efforts, they eventually give in to their feelings and they have sex, Sasha was a virgin, which only adds to Roman's internal guilt about "ruining" her. The cycle of pushing and pulling only stops when history repeats itself: Sasha is in a serious accident. Facing the possibility of losing her just like he lost Chloe finally forces Roman to change. He stays by her side in the hospital, eventually confessing that he’s "so fucking in love" with her. The book ends with them committed to building a "forever" family together with Sophia.

heartbreak, spice and second chances
I enjoyed this read.
Roman is heartbroken after the loss of his wife. He pushes everyone away and heads down a dark and lonely road. Sasha misses her older sister and needs to get away from her current ex situation at college so decides to go to school closer to home. She needs a job and fills out an application to be her nieces nanny. She gets more than she imagined when taking the position. This book will lead you down a dark road of temptation, grief, self hating and sabotage, love and pain and redemption. He’s broken. Possessive. 10 years older than her. Can’t resist even though he knows he should. She wants to help save him from himself. The spice level is 3.5 🌶️. This book took you through it all. I recommend reading if you like emotional reads and enjoy the journey. So good!

KG never disappoints!!!!
The Pretty Broken is a MF standalone romance in the Chaosverse.
Roman and Sashas story will grab you by the feels right from first page and wont let you go until you finish.
The love this man has for his wife and to lose her, I couldn't imagine. KG, like she always does, makes sure you feel everything right along with him.
Roman lost his wife, but Sasha lost her sister. And when she gets the chance to nanny for the child she left behind and be part of her life, it made my heart so happy.
The connection between Roman and Sasha is everything! There is so much they have to work thru and things aren't always easy but you can see the love they have for each other the whole time. They might be broken, but their broken pieces fit together perfectly.
KG, thank you for another masterpiece of a story!

Roman Ford (age 31) was a legend. Perfect grades. Top of his class. A football hero. Handsome. Everyone loved him. After his wife Chloe’s death he cut off everyone, his friends/her family. Four years later and he still didn’t know how to love without her. He was pretty broken.
Sophia is his 3 year old daughter who he can’t spend time with since she reminds him too much of his lost love.
Sasha Willis (age 21) is outgoing. Needing a change of scenery and job she signed up to be the nanny for her niece Sophia.
It’s easy to both hate and love Roman at different times. His grief is intense and left him pretty broken. Sasha pushed him to live again and I love how open and innocent she is.
And if you need another reason to read then there is a cameo of Enzo and Cole from the MayFair series 😊

Another great stand-alone with cameos
This book hits you in the feels from the start. Watching Roman struggle with the loss of Chloe and watching him spiral was painful because for some, this is a real-life scenario. It's almost like survivor's guilt but his love was so strong for her that he cannot move. Then you throw in Sasha and he starts to come alive again which throws him into another spiral. Both are consumed with guilt and struggle with the emotions they feel. It's so hard not to put any spoilers as I love to tell the story but it is so worth the read. I love watching the growth of both characters and how they struggle with what they feel. You will not be disappointed. Love the cameos from the Chaos Universe. A great read while we wait for the next installments in the other series. Thank you KG!!

Wow…. An absolute Need to Read
This Author has the ability to take any story and make you part of it . I loved the HEA. Second love. I absolutely loved Roman. The relationship that came from it and what he did to repent his sins. Loved the cross over as well. Something you don’t normally see in books is the ability to cross over different characters from different series. I don’t normally read standalones due to this Author as she is a legend for Cliffhangers and series. I am glad I did. I love when a good author can make you believe you are in the story with them.
Also… Love the Alpha like Man who knows how F***. :)

omg what is this !!!! amazing that’s what
I absolutely love KG Reuss and how she ties all her books together. The chaos universe is definitely a place. I would love to live if you like grumpy sunshine age gap this is definitely for you man loses. His wife has a baby from her and needs a nanny and then here comes a little bit of the forbidden romance theme , wife’s little sister. Definitely recommend. Plus we get a few little snippets from a few of the guys from Black Falls high lol gotta love little Easter eggs.

Another Great Standalone
I love everything that K.G. writes. Literally, everything. This one was an epic love story about life after losing a spouse. There were a few dark moments and Roman just kept screwing up and getting in his own way which was frustrating. I’m also not a huge fan of 3rd act breakups, but the redemption arc was great. Throwing in the cameos from Enzo and Cole (Black Falls High & Mayfair series also by K.G.) just added to the amazingness that is her Chaos Universe!

Well if you didn't know grief before this book
Having lost my son several years ago this book kind of hit a spot in my heart. Grief is like a disease that never leaves us. It shifts, changes, eats at you, and can destroy you if you let it. Yet it can also go into remission, but that doesn't mean you don't feel guilty for getting better. This book really summed up what it can do to someone when we lose a person we love. This book was another hit out the park for KG Reuss as usual I love her writing. This is well worth the read.

Amazing story. K.G. does it again with another amazing story with a little of the Chaos Universe sprinkled in! It was amazing to get an insight on some of the beloved characters from the Black Falls/Mayfair stories! This is something that I could absolutely see as being something that could happen and amazing at how KG is able to have all the emotion in the book come through! Can't wait for her next story!!

Age gap for the win
Tragedy, chemistry, self loathing it all makes for a great story. Throw in the idea that first marriages aren’t always meant to last forever and I’m even more hooked. If you’re new to K.G.s work the significance of two of the characters will be lost on you, but those that are diving into her choasverse will understand who the “guest” characters are enjoy. It definitely was worth the side trip for this standalone. Oh and the spice was worth waiting for.

K.G. has done it again!
This books was painfully beautiful. A tragedy, that I’m sure a lot of people can relate to and the heartbreak … and chaos that can come with that.
Roman lost his wife and went down a few dark hole. Sasha, his sister in law comes along, wakes him up and pulls him out of the darkness that he held him self in for so long.
I read this book in one sitting. It was amazing. I loved seeing a few characters pop in from her other books also.

“Forever meant everything when you let go of your pain and embraced your happily ever after.”
I absolutely devoured this book. It was an emotional rollercoaster that I didn’t want to stop. I loved Sasha and Roman so much. I didn’t want their story to end; this is definitely a couple that I could read more and more of.
If you want a book that will pull on your heartstrings then you need to read this!

This was a great read. It only took me so long to read because of a kindle malfunction lol
Roman was an absolute jackass and I’m not sure how Sasha could ever get over that to love him but we don’t get to choose who we love sometimes and Sasha saw through the hurt/broken man he was and saw someone who was looking for love in all the wrong ways and places. Sasha knew how to love him and they both deserved happiness.
Great slow burn!
K.G never disappoints!

Broken and healed.
KG did it again. The Pretty Broken starts out with the heavy right up front, and it came out of nowhere. Roman is in a pretty impossible situation, and is forced to move on from his pain. Sasha was a strong FMC who knew her worth and stood up for herself. What a great book, with some amazing Chaos Universe Easter eggs!

Hero treats heroine like trash. He neglects his child, and is an alcoholic. On top of that, he has "needs" that he satisfies with many different women (some of the paying variety), which we're able to witness firsthand many times, over and over. That's really not something I like to read in my romance novels.
The Heroine on the other hand lacks a spine.
Over and out.

Loved this story. Sasha and Roman needed each other more ways than one. Let me just say, Dr. Scott had me so happy IYKYK!!! I wonder if he gives his patients cake for behaving ;) The amount of heartache and guilt Roman experienced hurt my heart. I'm so glad Sasha pulled him out of it and he can be a great dad for Sophia.

Ou really cant go wrong with a book from this author. Another amazing read 📚. The fact that cole and Enzo from the chaos world were in it made it extra special for me. The tears and sadness start from the very 1st chapter... it was heartbreaking to read. Another great read while we wait for the next books in the other series. Thank you KG for another great read. 👍

I love KG’s series but her standalones just hit different and you get all the feels without her cliffys. This was such a good read I couldn’t put it down. I was so sad it was over but the journey oh my gosh so good.

I love taboo-ish and books that make me feel. Roman was in so much pain that it took over his life and was hurting those he loved the most. This was a quick read for me but a roller-coaster of emotion. I'd definitely recommend this even if you haven't read any other book from the Chaos Universe.

As usual I ate this book up. Just like every other book that KG writes. The tension between Roman & Sasha was perfection. Roman’s pain broke my heart, but his character growth & him finally allowing himself to be happy was so beautiful.
