This was an ARC read and book 2 in The LineFolk of London series by Jay Neill. Following almost directly on from book 1 we now have an established set of main characters, world and pace and this book really flows well while expanding the world inside but also outside of the circle line. Giving us a little bit of outside history while introducing new concepts and ideas.
I was much more comfortable with our FMC this time and it was interesting to see how, after the fallout of book 1, she is settling into this new world and how other characters are evolving into their new world.
Overall the writing was excellent, pace was great, the concepts and ideas are really intriguing and interesting and I absolutely loved the introduction of some of the new ‘creatures’ in this world. Overall this adventure so far has been fun, easy and cosy I would say with a little bit of explosive flatline for good measure.
Thoroughly recommend this series!

Over the last few months or so, I have become a big fan of Jay Neill's writing style and the stories he has told, and the one he continues to tell. I have been fortunate enough to have been given an ARC of Peculiar Consequences, as I was also involved in the ARC team of 'Curious Physiology' this privilege definitely has items rewards. This ongoing series continues to grip me. I am now left in a state of waiting for 'Unusual Afflictions' and if the previous two stories are anything to judge it on, it's going to be another gripping and entertaining addition.

Hidden under the streets of London through the tube lines exists a magical source of power that keeps a secret sub species hidden. Nurse Hannah needs a job so when she knocks on the door of a strange clinic that serves these LineFolk she soon becomes fascinated with this world and soon uncovers a plot that could cause chaos across the city.
An urban fantasy that is instantly engaging and moves at breakneck speed. Where Shapeshifters, Mages, Vampires, Trolls and others appear human in this zone but if they step outside the Lines they revert to their original appearance. With incredibly well drawn often eccentric characters that, in a few sentences you instantly know, an astonishing world cloaked and ancient and a gruesome conspiracy.
I loved Hannah, feisty and curious, entering a world she had walked past blind to her whole life. The Abclynician, Julius is peculiar but wise, Axton, the apprentice, careful and stubborn. Mia, his wife, loyal and brave as well as a cast of other LineFolk and a very special human from the Transport Police.
Book One - beds in the lore of the LineFolk and sees the main characters fighting a threat to their ability to hide in human form.
Book Two - the characters are established now and here we see the revitalisation of an horrific practice from Victorian times inflicted on the LineFolk by their own.

Peculiar Consequences wastes no time. It picks up right where Curious Physiologies left off, and our heroes barely get a heartbeat of peace before a peculiar new patient walks into the clinic and reminds everyone—very rudely—that the Linefolk world does not do “quiet weeks.” That immediate momentum worked perfectly for me: it feels like stepping back onto a moving train, already in the dark, already wondering what you just heard behind you.
If book one was a plunge into a hidden London, book two tilts the story even further into the shadows. The mystery here isn’t only about what lurks beyond the ordinary—it’s also about the darkness that can live inside anyone, human or “creature,” and how thin the line can get between coping and cracking. Neill keeps expanding the Linefolk concept in a way that feels richer rather than messier, and because we’re already oriented in the world, the emotional punches land harder.
I loved how much closer we get to the characters—closer in a way that doesn’t always flatter them. We see more of their good instincts and their worst impulses, the choices they justify, the secrets they carry, and the bonds that tighten anyway. Well, we’re back with a bang!
Peculiar Consequences is the second instalment in the Linefolk of London series. It starts a short time after Curious Physiologies, with Hannah having adjusted to her ‘new normal’. That is, until yet another supernatural threat forces her to use the side of herself that she still doesn’t fully understand.
I am a huge fan of Jay’s writing style. The dry humour and observations made this such a charming read while also enhancing the character development of every single character in the book. Hannah in particular had so much more personality in this book and felt even more relatable than she did in the first.
This book had more action in it, and at times, it was the action scenes that enabled more lore and world-building to be introduced without the pacing or plot suffering. As always with anything written by Jay, I was hooked from beginning to end and managed to devour this book in a couple of hours thanks to the compelling twists, short chapters and an intensity that only increases with every page.
Perhaps the thing I enjoyed most was that I was genuinely surprised by the general direction the plot took by the midpoint of the book. This almost never happens for me, so it was such a refreshing feeling to not be able to predict where the story was heading.

This is the second book in the series,and it improves in every area from the first book.
The character's are so well written, powerful and rounded,the story is so well paced and told,and flows beautifully.
Jay Neill manages to straddle several genres in this book,you get urban fantasy,thriller,fantasy,and a bit of detective story line all in one story and it's done effortlessly,and you don't realise this until you finish the story,that's how clever this story is and how well written it is.
The interaction between the characters is simply the best I have read,the comedy,arguments are all brilliant,and you fall into the story comfortably,never feel rushed,but I warn you,you will feel it very hard to put the book down,you just have to know what happens next.
All in all this is a brilliant piece of storytelling, everything about the book is just pure class.

I loved how the story deals with the consequences of what happened in Book 1. On one side, you have Flynn, whose single‑minded focus on protecting the Linefolk becomes even more apparent; on the other, Patel, equally determined to protect humans at any cost.
Then there’s Hannah, caught in the middle, trying to be a peacekeeper. I said this in my previous review, but this series truly feels refreshing.
Other readers have compared it to the Rivers of London series (which is good in its own right), but The Linefolks of London is grittier, darker, and—honestly—feels more like the real London.
The character development is amazing. Each character is dealing with their own battles and emotional turmoil, and it genuinely feels like everyone gets a moment to shine.

I really enjoyed Peculiar Consequences. Jay has a talent for pulling the reader straight into the story and keeping the pace smart, engaging, and fun. There are a lot of moving parts and characters in this book, but he manages to keep everything aligned without losing the thread of the mystery. What I particularly liked is how real places and pieces of London’s history are woven into the story in a way that makes the hidden world of the LineFolk feel almost believable. It gives the fantasy a grounding that works really well. You can also see Jay’s writing skills continuing to develop as he builds out this universe. I’m definitely looking forward to the next books in the series.

In this third installment, the LineFolks’ world becomes darker and more complex. There are undercurrents threatening not only linefolks, but dwellers, too, and shadowy interests at play. The book keeps you on the edge of your seat and eager to keep reading, without losing its cozy charm. Sometimes touching, endearing, funny, always engaging, this urban-fantasy series leans on a solid plot and has the most rounded world-building I’ve read in ages. Neil is setting the bar really high for his next release, but I have a feeling he won't let us down

The second instalment in the LineFolk of London series is absolutely brilliant! It connects to the end of the first book smoothly, with the characters still facing the fallout of the first book’s ending, when a whole new series of peculiar events start happening that they find themselves drawn into, whether they want to or not. I was completely hooked from the first pages, and loved discovering more about all the characters we’ve come to know in Book 1. A lot happened in this book but Jay’s writing is so smooth and flows at an excellent pace that is easy to follow but never gets boring. Every moment is precise perfection! Can’t wait for book 3! 🩷🩷🩷

It’s an honour to ARC read for Jay! This series fills a Grimm-shaped hole I had in my life, and the fact it’s based in the UK makes it so engaging to read. Peculiar Consequences is the second book in the LineFolk of London series. If you love urban fantasy, this is definitely a series to add to your TBR.
Taking into consideration that the series will have a few more books released before it’s complete, the rate at which the character growth for Hannah and Flynn is developing is perfect. It doesn’t feel forced or rushed, which I really enjoy.

All of Jay Neill's books have left me eager for his next piece of writing, and Peculiar Consequences is no different. This sequel did a good job of continuing to slowly flesh out the relationship between each of these fascinating characters, and their relationships with themselves - in particular, Hannah and Flynn learning more about their gifts and what these gifts mean for themselves and the people closest to them. Meanwhile, the pace of action feels more sped up this time - so much happening both above and below the surface, and I can't wait to see what happens next.

Another great story in the Linefolk of London series. Hannah is growing in her position and learning more than ever. I want to know more about these characters and the massive changes in their lives since we first met them…. Hannah is endearing and brave in the face of so much…. Diversity? Each book has a new challenge for the team to overcome in their quest to save London from those who don’t value lives human or otherwise.

Oooh the stakes are ramping up nicely in the second book in the Linefolk of London series. A lot more time spent in the tunnels, the writing really made me feel the air movements in the underground and the claustrophobia (in the best way).
Happily recognising lots of Jay's references, and would highly recommend reading this on the tube itself if you get the chance. I imagine it would be an experience!

I enjoyed Curious Physiologies and the world Jay Neill introduces in book 1 of this series. This one (book 2) was even better. Having got to know the characters and their traits, here they become more rounded and Hannah continues to discover her gifts and her place, straddled between the line folk and the dwellers. The book also explores some challenging topics around exploitation, the value of life and acceptance of the other. Look forward to going even deeper in book 3.

Peculiar Consequences
Book 2 takes 3 months after book 1. It is as exciting as book 1 with more at stake. Hannah is settling in to her new life at the abclynic when an unexpected and unusual patient arrives. Thus begins a further adventure for Hannah and her friends. Warm, witty and well written, The Linefolk of London is becoming a must read series.

What another amazing read
The line folk of London is definitely thrilling and really warps your thinking while reading I love it and need so much more brilliant writing from Jay once again he fast became one of my favourite authors and I'm loving the distopian world I can't wait for more to come hopefully
