Apex Elite Academy: Year 2

Rate this book
Welcome to year two of Apex Elite Academy, where the most powerful supernaturals become something far more dangerous.
After surviving my first year, I had been placed into the House of Twilight—the academy’s most covert house, a house of spies.
Lies, discretion, and manipulation were now a part of my curriculum.
Only one of the men I’d been falling for ended up in the same house as me. Of course, it had to be my academic rival.
Our new curriculum was hard enough on its own, but when humans kept secretly poisoning supernaturals within academy walls, and abducting them from across Kalista, things quickly spiraled out of control.
The humans weren’t just attacking supernaturals at random anymore.
They were hunting.
And they had set their sights on me.
Between dangerous simulations, slow-to-form matebonds, and rising political tensions between humans and supernaturals, Apex Elite Academy was becoming a battlefield.
And year two might break me.
I couldn’t wait.

While this one is shorter than last one, it is still jampacked with fun. And finally because it’s year too we find out. More about where everyone goes. I love the continued cameos of Bram and all our beloved characters from the previous series. And every single time I read one of Lyra’s new series the characters become one of my new favorite cast of characters. And Lyra, you’re so evil with your cliff hangers. Yes I know these are rapid releases, but I feel like I just need to carry on with the next book now I can’t just be left like that. And omg there is always that one character that absolutely annoys me. Y’all are gonna have to read and come back and tell me who you think is the one character for me it’s gonna be easy for you to tell lol.
I can’t wait for the next one!

Bonds, Suspicion, and Missed Impact

This one felt more ordinary than impactful. Things were happening, but none of it really stuck in a way that made it feel memorable.

We did get a few mate bonds snapping into place and some acceptance of future bonds on all sides, so there’s progress there.

The spice, though, felt forced at times. Rune came across more like a succubus than a basilisk, which didn’t fully align with how her character has been built so far.

Another thing that stood out was the overall tone of the characters. Slater, despite being older, gave younger brother energy. And Rune along with the academy mates often felt very young — almost childlike — even though they’re supposed to be older (aside from her). Outside of the mating bonds and spice, this didn’t consistently read like an adult story.

Now let’s talk suspicions.

I’m still standing on the fact that I don’t trust Aura. At all. I’m pretty sure she’s actually Allison, and whatever is going on between her and Vale? Yeah… something isn’t right there.

The academy itself continues to be wild to me. The level of savagery in these training missions is insane. Death should not be a valid or expected outcome for students.

Brynn? I wanted to wring her neck. Girl, read the room. Take a hint. Something. I’m convinced she’s the one who tipped off Dimitri’s parents and led them across the bridge. No doubt in my mind. I really hope someone handles that.

And somehow… Darian actually got worse this book. 🙄

Now the boys? I loved them.

Jesper’s shyness is adorable. Drecken being oblivious is equally entertaining. Zuko’s obsession is a little unhinged but still very much giving “book boyfriend.” Slater is full-on cinnamon roll, golden retriever energy. Dimitri finally getting his act together — and those little comments he’s been making? Yeah, I’m ready for that moment. And Koa… we didn’t get much of him this time, which makes sense, but what we did get? Pain. His current choices are definitely going to come back on him.

Overall, this was an interesting addition to the series. Not as impactful as I expected, but still enough going on to keep me invested in what comes next.

Rune and her mates are just 10/10. I love how she continues to grow as a character and still maintains being completely badass. I really love the twists and turns and the whole academy vibe. Can’t wait to read the rest!

*slowly putting on my clown make up before reading this and being dragged in again*

Spoilers.

Alrighty everyone, if you missed my super long review of book one this may come as a shock to you but I was not going to go into book two for so so so many reasons. However I can't find anything to read that isn't Wattpad adjacent or full of AI so here I am gearing up to be annoyed and disappointed again.

So let's break it down .

The good:
Rune is still my favorite Lyra FMC that hasn't changed. She's still a badass and fun to read about. I like the simulations like I said for the last book I think they add a better layer to their class work and keep the academy a tad fresher.

The bad:
Almost everything else, but if I have to sum it up there are too many damned people and far too many storylines going at one time for this to be enjoyable. In this book we have her and her 7? Mates truthfully don't ask me to name them I've kind of just out them into what supernatural they are rather than keeping names straight. We have extended families that have mates and siblings. We have her brother and his 3 mates, and we pulled in people from the last book series, all the professors, we have now the humans that infiltrated the school, Darian with his gross self side quest. It's like if you had 75 ideas for a book and said yeah I'll just put them together!

It's jumbled chaotic and at times almost not readable. WHICH SUCKS BECAUSE THE CORE PLOT IS RIGHT THERE. Truthfully, if there were less people and we had this crazy human plot this would be so much more enjoyable.
Except for its super obvious who the humans are. They keep saying it OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN. and you are gonna tell me that Slater and her 6 other mates just left her alone at the end? She went an ENTIRE book without alone time, and yet just magically at the end perfect set up for the kidnapping. Doubtful friends.

I also need to note that this has one of my biggest pet peeves with big harems. We have to have scenes with 2+ mates at almost all times or we forget they exist. Ask me how many times I thought about the Phoenix this book unless we were in his spy chapter.? How about the other basilisk? Barely at all. Why have 7 mates if we can't feel the connection to them.

The Ugly:
Okay, not everyone may agree with this next part but the way Darian and her relationship is being handled is really something I am not okay with. Darian raped her. Period. Whether the drugs worked or not, whether he was sorry for hurting her afterward or not is the fact of the matter here. Instead of addressing that and allowing space for something that has happened to far far far too many women we get her saying things along the lines of he didn't do anything that I didn't allow and that she was naive and blinded to his behavior. Rune is a victim here and I think this handling is really really downplaying not only her experience but that experience of partner violence. She even ignores his threatening letters and rolls her eyes like he isn't worth her time, which is fair but I think it's hard to square that with the story we are given. She also brushes off the drugging in ways that are extremely uncomfortable. I know not everyone's going to agree and I get that but it's why this went from a 3 to a 2 for me. I'm fine with this content I just think it needs to be handled far better.

Final rant of this book.
Once again I come to you fellow readers to say why do ARC readers exist? Does anyone have one they trust that I can follow? Because aside from my two star review the rest are fives. Apparently just so perfect no notes fives. I yell about this a lot but it just sucks!

I'm loving these books so much!
I honestly wish I would have waited for the full series because I want to read them all right now!
sigh (no self control)
The only thing that could make this series better is if it was an audiobook, which I will be buying when it comes out.

Well Lyra has successfully written another book that had me so invested I’m walking into walls because I refuse to remove my nose from my Kindle.

The second installment starts off with a bang and the momentum just keeps going. After discovering what houses everyone has been assigned too, it’s intresting to get a view into the kinds of classes they’re now taking. I love the way the world building gives us a view into the missions whilst still progressing the continuation of chaos outside the Academy walls.

I’ve loved the growth between Rune and her MMC’s. The more prominate mates continuing to pursue her in adorably chaotic ways despite the changes in houses and schedules and it’s been enjoyable discovering more about the lads we didn’t hear as much from in book one.

Rune is such a badass, unapologetic FMC that the more she survives and perseveres through the more I truly adore her. The love and support she receives from her tribe of misfit men is wholesome chaos that is truly on brand for for Lyra’s books and something I truly love about her work.

I know i keep using the word chaotic but there honestly isn’t a better word to describe the MMC’s in their admiration and devotion to Rune.

All in all this was another thoroughly enjoyable read from Lyra and I’m once again foaming at the mouth for the next instalment and honestly at this point i would willingly drink any poison Rune would give me in exchange for the full series.

((Also no spoilers but Lyra’s cliffhangers are so good they literally have me pterodactyl screaming Every. Single. Time. ))

If year one was a spark, Apex Elite Academy: Year Two is the full-blown wildfire and darling, it burns in the best way possible.

Lyra Winters takes everything we thought we understood about the academy and twists it into something sharper, darker, and infinitely more addictive. Every interaction is layered, every alliance questionable, and every emotion… deliciously complicated.

And let’s talk about Rune, because she is the moment.
She’s not just powerful, she’s magnetic. The kind of FMC who doesn’t just exist in the story but commands it. Her growth is subtle yet undeniable, and the way she navigates her evolving relationships, especially those slow-burning matebonds, adds a rich emotional depth that keeps you hooked.

Rune doesn’t just make you root for her… she makes you need more of her.

Now, the romance? Oh, it’s tension-filled perfection. The fact that only one of her love interests ends up in the same house, and it’s her academic rival? The angst practically writes itself. Their dynamic is sharp, competitive, and laced with undeniable chemistry.

But this book isn’t just romance, it’s war dressed in academia’s finest uniform. The external conflict escalates beautifully, with humans no longer acting as chaotic threats but calculated hunters. The poisoning, the abductions, the growing political tension, it all creates a sense of urgency that pulses beneath every scene.

What truly sets this installment apart is how seamlessly it blends emotional intimacy with high-stakes danger. One moment you’re melting over a quiet, charged interaction… and the next, your heart is racing because Rune’s life is once again on the line.

This is a masterclass in building romantic, political, and personal. Lyra Winters doesn’t just raise the stakes; she weaponizes them. Year Two is darker, riskier, and far more addictive than the first, and if this trajectory continues? We’re looking at an elite-tier series that will haunt readers long after the final page.

Finally some matebonds!
This is your reminder that this book is part of a series. You must read the books in order so if you've not read book 1, don't read this. I'm so, so excited for the matebonds to finally pop out in this book. I'm not going to say who - just know it's not everyone. We get all the amazing things in Year 2 - steamy action, suspense, matebonds, revenge, new friends, the cutest potential mate dates ever. I absolutely loved reading start to finish. I cannot recommend these books enough. All three series in this world (including this one) have been amazing.
We found out some things that if you've read the first book you may have been suspecting. I stayed up half the night finishing this because I couldn't bring myself to not see it through to the end. Picking up where we left off at the end of book 1, Rune finally makes it out of the simulator for her final. Something happened that caused the simulator to glitch only for her, and she definitely was attacked in there. And it's not the only time, we see a few other instances as Rune moves through year 2.
I'm so sad that the team has to move apart into their specialized houses. It means that Rune doesn't get to spend as much time with all her potential mates. People are still disappearing, some are showing up infected, they can't seem to get answers. And that jerkwad Darian is still slinking around too - let's just say I hope Jesper or Zuko take care of him sooner rather than later. I have a feeling, he's bad news bears and some things are going to go down.

ARC reader here ✨️

I just finished reading year 2 of Apex Academy and I am officially in love with this series. I found book one to be slightly chaotic and a touch slow but this second book definitely makes up for it!

Rune and her 'potential' mates 😏 have more romance scenes than in the first book for sure which I appreciate! it all felt a little too instant for me, not that theres anything wrong with insta-love trope but it was like immediate which im not a huge fan of. this second book definitely mellowed out and calmed it while still building on the relationships. *chefs kiss*

there was a better balance between the Academy simulations and the outside plot which i also appreciated! I love a good balanced book.

do we have a fav mate? abso-freaking-lutely! dont get me wrong, I love all of her mates and potential mates for sure. I wish we seen more of Koa with rune but im going to assume thats going to come later! Dimitri is definitely my fav. he seems the most real to me. its hard choosing one fav because they each bring something different to the bond but I feel like Dimitri is the most real for sure.

this series is the 3rd series in the Kalista world. I highly recommend reading the first two series first because there are character crossovers that would make way more sense if you read the other series first.

there was a bit less smut in this book but it didnt really take away from the story. id say 3 🌶 but the story and plot is definitely 5⭐️.

well done Lyra! cant wait for year 3, especially with that cliff!

An Amazing Adventure Continues!!!

I will not be shocked when this series climbs its way to my top read of 2026. Honestly, I am eating it up and read the second book in about 6 hours. Completely devoured it and left no crumbs behind. Rune is quickly slithering her way into my top 5 ALL TIME FMCs, and I love the vulnerability we experienced from her in book two as well, because I love a tough girl with a big heart. She's honestly fabulous, and I love that she's a bit scary lol

In year 2 of Apex Elite, we are dropped in where we left off, and our squad hits the ground running. Everyone becomes aware that humans have infiltrated the school, and I love that hints are dropped throughout, and each character voices their suspicions in their POV so we as the reader are not left in the dark by unreliable narrators. lol

Rune's relationships begin developing further and heating up substantially, and it was delicious. These books are fast-paced, fun, and never leave me bored. And even though there are a couple of moments that ached in my chest, most of the book is cozy and warm, allowing me to escape to a safe place <3 Thank you, Lyra, for giving us the world of Apex Elite Academy and providing a safe escape that we all could use. I feel your heart in each book and appreciate you sharing.

I absolutely recommend continuing the journey with Rune & her guys. It's fun and spicy!!! Can't wait for Year 3.

Oh. My. God.

I didn't think more twists and turns were even possible. I can confidently say I am in love with this series (but that's no surprise honestly). First, I'd like to just point out the immediate growth we get from Dimitri after he stops acting like a scared boy with Rune. LOVE! Also, the passion and fierce protectiveness that Rune displays not only over her family but of her mates and her brother's mates as well. In this book we see Rune's family grow substantially when (SPOILERS) her brother Tibby finds his three mates and then Rune meets her "In Laws" of two of her mates. On another note, the suspense building behind the human attacks and Koa being undercover is killing me. I have so many theories and I truly can't wait to see how this all plays out. The attention to every little detail and the depth of the writing is incredible and capturing, when reading book two I really felt like I was able to see the scenes happening right in front of me. 10/10 would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fast-paced war college fantasy feel, Insta love between some but not all mates, THE SPICE, and most importantly in my opinion the found family.

Finally, the cliffhanger, I don't know what's about to happen with Rune, but I do know one thing. Those men are about to bring the world down, and I am here for it!!

Oh my goodness, um Lyra, what in the heck was that???

We dive right back into AEA Year 2 just as AEA Year 1 concludes. This year, Rune and her men are all separate in a way and new threats are exposed. For Rune, she is struggling with her relationship with Dimitri especially when a "fan" of Dimitri's enters their world and causes problems however, her relationships with Zuko, Slater, Jesper and Drecken continue to flourish and bonds start snapping into place which is so exciting. Not a lot happens between Rune and Koa but I feel like their time is coming very soon. On top of that, the humans are ramping up their fight and targeting the supernaturals and it gets very hairy of several simulated missions. I have a lot of questions and theories about some of the students, because some things just aren't adding up.

That ending was shocking and I need book 3 now because I need to know what happens next...

So excited for Year 3 💚💚💚

Thank you Lyra and your amazing team for the opportunity to read this story and to be a part of your ARC team. I am forever grateful 💚

Honestly… really?! Lyra, you love keeping me on the edge of my seat with these cliffhangers!

Book 2 is just as good as book 1. It has a way of sinking its hooks into you and refusing to let go—I didn’t want to put it down until I was completely finished. I loved getting to know the characters on a deeper level and seeing how their relationships continue to come together.

Rune is easily my favorite FMC so far. We all love a hardcore girl who knows what she wants, can protect herself, and stands strong with or without her men. Watching her grow and seeing some of her relationships start to snap into place was so satisfying—while others are still building, which keeps things interesting.

Darian is still a problem, running around causing chaos—honestly, even worse now. With his cousin mated to Rune, he feels even more unhinged. Add in human spies, deadly tests that can actually take you out, and students getting sick left and right, and the tension just keeps building.

And that ending… Rune being taken?! Part of me can’t wait to see her mates (and her parents) go absolutely feral getting her back. But at the same time, I can’t shake the feeling that Rune is going to be the one cleaning house before they even get there.

I can already see the vision for this series, and honestly, this might be your best one yet.

Book 2 of Apex Elite Academy takes everything that made the first installment engaging and builds on it in a really satisfying way. The stakes feel higher, the relationships are more developed, and the world itself starts to feel deeper and more immersive.

One of the strongest aspects of this book is the character growth. You really get to see how the main character evolves under pressure, and the emotional moments feel more earned this time around. The dynamics between characters—especially the mix of tension, loyalty, and shifting alliances—keep things interesting and unpredictable without feeling overwhelming.

The pacing is well-balanced, with a good mix of action, intrigue, and quieter moments that allow the story to breathe. There’s also a stronger sense of direction in this installment, making it easier to stay invested in both the plot and the characters’ journeys.

If you enjoy academy settings, complex relationships, and a blend of drama and intensity, this book definitely delivers. It builds on the foundation of the first book while setting up even bigger possibilities for what’s to come.

Overall, Apex Elite Academy Book 2 is a solid continuation that will leave readers excited for the next installment.

As if I wasn't in love with this series already. The second installment of Apex Elite Academy rocks.

After the white-knuckling cliffhanger the book one left us in, the book two started with some action, and I am honestly really glad it was kinda resolved right away, because the susspence of not knowing what is going to happen was killing me.

We get to know which houses everyone is assigned to, even though it was pretty obvious in book one. Finally some MATE bonds start to show up. Unfortunatelly not with everyone....yet (fingers crossed it's rather sooner than later). It's pretty hard on out main charaters that they aren't under the same roof anymore.

As always it's packed with action and romance. They are facing some challenges with their academic studies along side with the relationship "struggles". Traitors among their ranks are keeping me up on my toes. I thought I had it figured it out, but now you tell me there are more?
The plot is plotting so hard, it's making my head spin, but in a good way, I don't like when it's totally predictable.¨

So as always a chef's kiss to the author.
But can we dial it down with the cliffhangers? I need book three ASAP! So exited and gratefull to be a part of the ARC team. Amazing work.

Just finished this amazing book!!

Rune is unhinged and i LOVE it!!
Slater, Zuko, Koa, Jesper, Dimitri, Drecken....our MMC's for this series are just falling deeper and deeper into our girl! Its so good to see each of their personalities shine and come out to play.

The Human's are plotting again and infiltrating the Academy... What is their end goal?
Why do they want Rune?!?!?

MATE BONDS ARE SNAPPING INTO PLACE!!!!! I LOVE IT!!!!

Also Brynn... GOOOOO AWAYYYY!!!!!

Characters:

Slater is true chaos demon and loves to cause mayhem.

Zuko is living up to his fathers name in his courses.

Koa our sweet clumsy phoenix. SO sweet, but we didnt get to see as much of him as i personally would have liked but i understand the man has an IMPORTANT JOB!!!

Jesper our fierce protective fire drake.

Dimitri our studious vampire, ridiculous self restraint and has a traumatic past relationship.

Drecken... Drecken... Drecken... our 100+ year old warlock mate that had never even looked at a female with interest until our little spit fire MFC..

The plot is thickening and i feel that our cliffhanger was ILLEGAL!!!!

This book started off on a sprint, right in the middle of the action book 1 left off. I was here for it. I love the mystery behind the humans infiltrating the supernaturals. Diving more in depth into that and the backstory was one of my favorite parts of the story plot. Koa absolutely steals my heart with the multiple ways he is clumsy and the results of that (I don’t want to spoil it) This book is 5 alarm spicy and I am here for it. I love the relationships Rune builds with each MMC and how the build up with Demetri happens.

The side characters in this series are noteworthy as well. I cannot wait for the next series that is hinted at with the characters that have popped up ( it is going to be a good one)

The relationship Rune has with her brother and parents is strong and not one we have seen in an FMC yet in this world. I love that she has strong family foundation and that they support her in all things.

I wanted to throw my kindle at the end of this one as it ended on ANOTHER horrible cliffhanger. I NEEEEEED to know what happens. I need Lyra to stop playing with my emotions. JK lol I love these books. I can’t wait for the 3rd installment.

ARC REVIEW:

I absolutely loved this instalment in the Apex Elite Series!!! I loved all of the twists and turns that went along with the year.

First off: loved seeing a few of the mate bonds snapping in place and how they did. While not all of them have, some of the best connection scenes between Rune and the guys are what cause the bonds to snap into place.

Second of all: this book does end up hitting a few of the more sensitive topics thanks to discussions with Jesper, his mom and aunt about his cousin. So please be on the lookout as it does have topics that may be triggering but it is mentioned in the authors note of what they may be.

Overall I just love the family that Rune and her mates are making and how her own family grows thanks to her brother finding his mates and her parents being so accepting to the mates found.

I can't wait for book 3 and Spoiler:

I definitely recommend reading this series, and in order. it would be enjoyable without, however not nearly as much without the background, since a lot of the world building was in the first one so you may become a little lost if you skip it.

I loved seeing the growth with Rune's mates, both romantically and personally. Seeing the academics ramp up and become more serious is also interesting and I'm excited for the next year there, especially with the humans pulling their shenanigans. There were some moments where I had to take a second and cover my own face from second hand embarrassment (That one part with Jesper)! That really speaks to the show-not-tell ability that Lyra Winters has with her writing.

I think Drecken will add a really good balance to the group and it's so cute with him experiencing certain feelings for the first time. I'm certainly intrigued by what's going on plot wise with the humans, more specifically why they're being so shady, and how. Of course this does end on a cliff hanger so I'm sure we will find out more in the next book!

Supernatural spy academy. RH, missions, teammates, fated mates, and hot hot spice!

This author knows her readers with the rapid release of this series! I am so glad I don't have to wait a year to get each book in the series!

This is not the first book in the series, but it can be read as a complete stand-alone. Technically. Though I don't recommend it. But it is not the first series in this universe. But you do not have ot have read the others to enjoy this. You will just know the world building already so you can concentrate more on the characters. But everything you need to know will be given to you. However, I think you will get more out of it if you have read the other books as you have met some of the characters before. It will make you want to read all the other books!

You will get some fun little Easter eggs though if you have read some of the other series. But they are just minor, so if you haven't read the books you won't miss anything. But if you have the Easter eggs will give you quite a giggle.

Did I do a happy dance when I receive this books ARC in my email? YES. Did I start reading it immediately even when it was already late and didn't stop until one in the morning because I couldn't put it down? ALSO YES.
No regrets here.

Year 2 starts exactly where Year 1 ended no time jump.
Year 2 is We are finally in the houses Rune and her mates are basically split up and isn't spending that much time together but when they do we get a more family feeling with meeting the parents and Rune's own family expanding, but if you're waiting for bonds to snap together this book will not disappoint with more than one bond finally snapping and I personally can't wait to see how the next bonds happens

We also get to see more of the characters from demon reform academy and learning more about the plans of the Humans and what they are doing.

The story is just getting better and better Can't wait to see what happens next. After that cliffhanger I'm extra happy we get monthly releases!

Lyra Winters absolutely delivers again with Apex Elite Academy: Year 2. From the very first chapter, the story takes off at a relentless pace, pulling you straight into the chaos and never letting up. Just when you think you have a handle on what’s happening, another twist hits—and somehow, it’s always unexpected in the best way.

Rune continues to be such a compelling main character.
What really stands out in this installment is the constant sense of danger. There’s always someone lurking, always a new threat, and it keeps you guessing about who’s truly behind it all. The tension never drops, and the stakes feel higher with every chapter.

This book is the definition of a page-turner—you’ll find yourself saying “just one more chapter” until suddenly you’re at the end, completely stunned and desperate for answers. Lyra Winters has created a story that leaves you impatiently waiting to uncover the truth and see what comes next.

If you loved Year 1, Year 2 will hook you even harder.

Year Two really dives deeper into the relationships, and I loved seeing how much Rune and her mates and the group as a whole have grown. The bonds feel stronger, more emotional, and more complex this time around. Rune has solidified some of her mate bonds (with a few still to go), which added so much tension and excitement.

With mate bond rates in Kalista dropping significantly, it shocks everyone when multiple bonds begin snapping into place, Rune and two other mating pairs at the academy. It definitely raises questions and adds to the bigger picture unfolding.

The tension is building on all fronts, between Rune and her abusive ex, and between supernaturals and humans. Things are escalating quickly, especially with the academy being infiltrated, which kept me on edge the entire time.

And once again… that ending, another major cliffhanger! I need Year Three immediately to see what happens next.

Year 2 brings more mystery and action. Rune and her guys dive deeper into their training to become agents. but it also means they are busier and have to work at dating and having the mate bonds snap in place. also humans are the worst, lol. there are also a lot of secrets, and people not communicating with each other, which is driving me wild.

usually the more psychotic mmcs are my fav in a book, and i do love Slater and Zuko, but Drecken just might be my favourite. i mean, he made a potion so he wouldn’t feel jealous when he sees Rune with her other mates. the poor warlock.

thank the Goddess that this series is a rapid release, even tho it doesn’t feel like it’s fast enough 🤣 this book leaves off on another brutal cliffhanger.

thank you Lyra Winters for an e-ARC of 𝑨𝒑𝒆𝒙 𝑬𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒆 𝑨𝒄𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒎𝒚: 𝒀𝒆𝒂𝒓 2

I loved this as much as book 1! I’m very lucky to be on the ARC team and Lyra wows me every time.

I adore the FMC, Rune and all her mates and soon to be mates! There is insta love due to them being fated mates but then each relationship is built on, in such delicious and well thought out ways.

I love the storyline and plot that is continuing to develop with its mystery and intrigue… who are the other plants inside the academy??

I adore all of the mates and the fact each relationship develops at its own pace which factors in for the baggage or trauma that her mates have. I love that they all bring a different vibe and feel to the mate bonds.

The scene with her dad and the classroom had me choking on laughter! Rune and her poisons keeps making me giggle, she is such a vibe… I want to hang out with her ❤️

I am so excited to delve into book 3, especially as Lyra left us on another ki**er cliffhanger as she does best!

This is the second book in the Apex Elite Academy series. This book is shorter than the first one but is packed with humor, action, and romance. My favorite part of this book is the character growth of Rune and the growth in her dynamic with her mates. I maintain that my favorites of her mates are Zuko and Slater. There is something about a MMC that knows the FMC is the one and is committed to her. This book sees mate bonds start snapping into place and I look forward to seeing the rest of them lock into place.

This book is pretty balanced between the romantic aspects, simulations, and everything else happening outside of their learning at the academy. There is more happening with the humans and their attacks on supernaturals. Lyra is building up some good suspense in that regard and I have plenty of theories about what is going on. Oh and if you really like spice, Lyra absolutely delivers in this book. There is a cliffhanger but that just leaves me excited for the next book!

Apex Elite Academy: Year 2 picks up right where the first book left off, and it delivers some of the emotional and plot momentum I’d been waiting for. Rune’s placement in the House of Twilight—training as a spy alongside her potential mate, Dimitri—adds a fresh layer of tension and intrigue. Her separation from Zuko and Slater is genuinely felt throughout the book, and that longing gives the story real emotional weight.

What really made this installment shine for me is that we FINALLY start seeing some mate bonds snap into place. The mystery that began in book one starts to deepen and take shape, and the worldbuilding feels like it’s expanding in all the right ways. The pacing and buildup pay off much more strongly this time, and the series is clearly hitting its stride.

I’m genuinely excited to continue this journey with Rune and her guys, and I absolutely cannot wait for book three.

Did I get excited when I saw that I got the email? Yes. And did my coworkers at my job looked at me like I was weird? Also yes. I honestly can’t begin to say anything because Rune and her guys bonds are snapping into place. I’m glad some of the guys are finally accepting that they are fated for each other. The events that happen in this book will have you not wanting to put the book down. I was at work reading it at every minute that I could. You find out that all of them are growing close with each other. Thank you to Lyra for writing such an amazing series again. I have fallen in love with all the characters from Fate Hollow Academy, Demon Reform Academy and now Apex Elite Academy.

The end of the book should not have ended on that cliffhanger because now that’s all I’m going to be trying to figure out.

Oh. My. God. I still love Lyra Winters. Her writing style, how her characters are all fleshed out instead of only being skin deep, the twists in her stories, how she makes you fall in love with characters. But also how she ties her worlds together.

Apex Elite Academy has many cross over characters from both Fate Hollow Academy and Demon Reform Academy. My favorite part is that even though these characters cross over - you don't truly miss anything if you didn't read them first. Each series has their own villains, heroes and plot.

Book two was just as good as book one, which is on brand for Lyra. Certainly felt like a shorter read than the first book but not at all lacking.

The character, the wit, the sharp tongues, tender hearts and some characters getting their head out of their butts is what really made this one for me. Here's to waiting for book 3.

I am not surprised in the least that I absolutely loved Apex Elite Academy: Year 2.

It jumps right in and resolved the cliffhanger from book 1 and then takes off running, starting with sorting the students into their houses.

Darian is still a problem, and the school is in more danger than ever.

Being mostly in different houses makes it more difficult to spend time together, but where there's a will there's a way.

I like how Rune is such a kick-a FMC, and yet causes some of her own problems due to a degree of shyness....or perhaps her communication skills aren't quite as strong as she believes them to be.

Seeing the men pull together for Rune was endearing.

And, of course, it ends on another cliffy, so brace yourself!

Pick up Apex Elite Academy: Year 2 to continue the whirlwind adventure.
