Read this book for my daughter to sleep, naps and bedtime. She slept away every time. I thought I read Alice in Wonderland before but somehow I can’t compare every events to this book. But it’s been awhile I guess. This book has many poems that doesn’t make sense to me and the stories the characters try to tell were incomplete. However, I like those scenes that made Alice grow big and small. I like the scenes with the Cheshire cat and the Caterpillar. I like her following the white rabbit and falling down the hole. It’s a good story and I just gave it to my son to read.

This is the version of Alice in Wonderland I read when I was 6 turning 7. Since then it's always frustrated me that I never read the real version.

Which is why I shall remedy that this year.

Um, what do you say to that? I had never read the story or watched any of the movies and I recently read a book called Insanity which was about Alice as a nineteen your old in the modern world living in a insane asylum and there is so many references about this book that I just had to read it. Not to mention it was sitting on my book shelf just waiting to be read.

This story it self was strange like the author dropped acid strange. Nevertheless as a classic it was good. The first half was interesting and the second half not so much and I just wanted to know how it ended. The nutcracker is pretty much Alice in wonderland the winter version it seems after reading this.

I also really enjoy reading this as a piece of history. The original story was written during times of slavery and the book first being published the same year slavery was ended. That to me was interesting because when I come across old art I always like to think of the world in which the artist produced it.

I think the first part of this book is much stronger than the second half. After a while the non-sense gets silly and tiresome when you read it as an adult. But I did find my self giggling at the first half of the book. It is a classic and I am glad I read it.

I find my self smiling at Alice's clever inner dialogue.

But it has taken me forever to get around to finish it - it has been sitting on my ereader for a really long time.

I haven't read any of the Alice in Wonderland books and I haven't seen the movie since elementary school, so I really did not remember much about the plot...if you can call it that.

The book is definitely weird. The whole time I kept thinking to myself, "I feel like I'm witnesses a 7 year old dream." On the last page, turns out that's exactly what the story was. With that perspective, I think Carroll did a great job of capturing the weirdness of dreams, about how you start down one train of thought but then it morphs into something completely different. And how things from your normal life make it into your dreams in weird ways.

I looked up a PDF of the original book and it's fairly similar to the text in this version, though some parts have been tweaked or ommitted. I compared about the first third of the books and I don't think there were any substantial differences.

I think it's worth reading Alice in Wonderland due to it's cultural significance, but other than that, it's not that interesting.

I read this aloud to my daughter, inspired by our trip to Disneyland. We met Alice and the Hatter, rode on the Mad Tea Party Cups and the Alice in Wonderland ride (having no idea about the story because I've never read the book or seen the movie!) The beginning was insightful and funny. Alice has some observations, and I could totally relate to that thinking as a kid! As most classic stories for children go, it got sporadic and random fast. Lots of strange characters. My daughter loved how Alice has to go from short to tall to short several times throughout the book. This is an abridged edition, so I wonder how the original is. Looking forward to seeing it Disneyfied, or not, but I'm glad we read it and know the full story now! "Off with----"!!!

WOW. I was hoping that I would enjoy this. I have not read this story for a long time. However, my head hurts. I have no idea what any of it means. I know some of the back story, but I now will have to look into more to make sense of it. I have another edition on my TBR, so maybe that one will be a more enjoyable story... I do want to watch the movies now though.

I've seen two movies versions of this book. The first one I saw was the Burbank version and the second one I saw was the Disney version (a few years ago). I can't say which one is closer to the original, because there are some things that are in either or, like the hall of doors, it's in the Burbank one, but not the Disney one, which never made sense to me (I didn't know about Disney's Alice in Wonderland until only a few years ago, I don't know why I didn't). The bird who called Alice a serpent when she grew really tall was in the Disney version, but not the other one. So It won't be fair to say which one is a better adaptation of the story, but the ending in the Burbank one was similar to the original, it was just shortened, which I think was a good idea because there are some moments in the book that I felt like were unnecessary and were just dragging the story, like the Mock Turtle's story and Alice playing with a giant dog. Although, I felt like the Queen in the Disney version was too much. I did enjoy both of those movies, though.
I also saw Tim Burton's version and I barely remember anything that happened in there. I don't think it was good idea to try to get the story to make sense, that just ruined it. Alice in Wonderland is one of those stories that get worse when they do make sense, it's supposed to be nonsense, that's what makes it fun. But I did like the costumes and sets of that movie.

You're probably wondering I'm talking about the movies when I should be talking about the book. That's because I'm comparing the original to the movies and some of the changes the made and if I liked those changes.

It's pretty late here and I'm so tired, so I'm going to finish this review later.

This story has been pretty famous since it was first published in 1865 and has remained a well loved story since.

I had already known the story thanks to the films but I remember when I was about 6 that my Dad came home one day from work and gave me this book as a present. Since that day I've read the same book I was given then every few years. It's truly a well loved book after nearly 2 decades...

It's an easy book to read, simplistic language, nice illustrations to help explain the story, loveable characters etc. Some people seem unsure as to what they think about the book. Many seem to not understand it. I don't think it was written to be psycho analysed but to instead, simply be enjoyed. It's a funny book, sure you come across a lot of nonsense in it like the Cheshire Cat or the Mad Hatter but that's the beauty of it!

I was once told by my mother that when I first saw the film version when I was around 4 that I cried for ages because I was so upset over how mean the flowers were to Alice. Even now that I'm nearing 21 I still tend to get emotional at that bit!

There are many books published with this title (or Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass or just Through the Looking Glass.) The books vary almost entirely by who did the artwork.

Alice in Wonderland is one of my favorites and that is why I have been getting so many versions of this book.

I remember reading this one day at my aunt's house and her being so surprised that she went around praising what a reader I was; when in reality I was just doing it so I didn't have to talk to her.
Leave it to my mom to inform her of that tidbit.
