Jonathan Hunt #1

The Jericho Siege

Rate this book
They saw a quiet grape farmer in the Missouri Ozarks. They didn’t see the retired CIA assassin who was just waiting for a reason to let the monster out.

Million-selling author Georgia Wagner teams up with Mensa genius and Navy vet, Scott Cook, to create your next favorite thriller series.

The dirt under Jonathan’s fingernails used to be the dust of Kandahar and Caracas. As a former operator for the CIA’s Special Activities Division, Hunt was a "Gray Man"—a ghost trained to dismantle insurgencies and vanish without a trace. His speciality was asymmetrical warfare, until he faked his death two years ago.

He thought he was out. He thought he could replace the violence with the silence of the vines.

He was wrong.

When his boss gets entangled with local thugs, Hunt steps in to handle it the only way he knows how—quickly and brutally. But he unknowingly kicks a hornet's nest. The thugs aren't just low-level criminals; they are the foot soldiers for Vissarion, a sadistic cartel enforcer with big plans for the small town.

Vissarion isn't just moving drugs; he’s testing a terrifying new synthetic weapon, VX-9, on the American heartland.

Now, with his new family under siege, the time for being a simple farmer is over. The police can’t help. The government won’t help. But Jonathan Hunt doesn’t need help. He has a particular set of skills, a hidden cache of weapons, and a burning need for revenge.

The operative is back. And he’s about to turn the Ozarks into a war zone.

Georgia Wagner

Having worked on projects with New York Times Bestsellers and USA Today bestsellers, Georgia Wagner recently hit #1 bestseller with her newest series. Location and character are two big factors for Georgia, and getting those right allows the story to flow seamlessly onto the page. And flow it does, because Georgia is so prolific a new term is required to describe the rate at which nerve-tingling stories find their way into print.

When not found attached to a laptop, Georgia likes spending time in local arboretums, among the trees and ponds. An avid cultivator of orchids, begonias, and all things floral, Georgia also has a strong penchant for art, paintings, and sculptures. A many-decades-long passion for mystery novels and years of chess tournament experience makes Georgia the perfect person to pen the Artemis Blythe series. That's where it all started, but the drive to craft thrilling mystery tales soon demanded new characters in new locations.

Where will she take us next?

fun to read

Scott Cook and Georgia Wagner have written a good first book in this series. It’s way far fetched but still fun to read. Jonathan Hunt wins every fight, finishes every mission. Injured, shot, etc. doesn’t stop him. He’s basically indestructible. Still a quick, fun read

I wanted to love this book. It has a great premise.
Using the Ozarks as a hiding place and the geography making an excellent lair? Brilliant!!

But the POV changing from 3rd person to 1st person nagged at me: “[I am well trained killing machine]…”, or something to that effect. People just don’t just don’t talk about themselves like that. During my smutty boom phase, I never understood the chick “peel her dress down my shoulders and it would pool in a simmer pool of silk”. That’s the vibe I caught on this.

Too many factual errors

Aside from the alternating colors of the text the Jericho Siege has a promising start. As it progresses the factual errors build to the point where the hero, Jonathan Hunt is walking uphill toward the cabin of a Gulf stream that is screaming toward the ocean. There are many similar errors especially in the last third of the book I've never given a book in this genre two stars, and this book really deserves one star.

(3.5 stars) This was a good book, a lot of good action, an ex-CIA guy trying to stay away from the government and mind his own business when life intervenes.

My only complain is the action borders on the absurd as the “deceased” CIA agent takes on (at one point 100) bad guys single-handedly 🙄 Really?

Could have been better if it was more grounded in reality.

INTENSE

Jonathan Hunt truly is a ghost, a grape picker, handyman, and an asset. Jonathan "died" and started a new civilian life only to become a stopper, fixture in a whirlwind of a horrible situation gone very bad. Read this thriller to see how and what Jonathan Hunt does to right a situation on American Soil.

Jonathan Hunt

This character is way beyond the pale. First off, 6'4 200lbs is not massive, not even close. Secondly, the bullshit this guy goes through is not remotely believeable. I did not like this book at all.

This is the best written book & story that I've read in a long time. It's so tense one minute & I'm chuckling the next. It's a great story. You can't put it down. Thumbs up on this author & the books!

Outstanding start to the series!

Non-stop action, a compelling Reacher-esque protagonist, good character development. I sped through it and can't wait to read the next one.

Thought I'd try this one on for size. Darned if it didn't grab me and hold on. Heading to number 2. Grab yourself a cold beverage and settle in.

You cannot have a friend

A gripping story that has you page turning. The chapters fly by as Jonathan finds himself in the middle of the cartel.

Not worth your time

Lots of inconsistencies and lazy writing. I’ve read hundreds of books in this genre and this would be near the bottom
