I just finished reading this book, and it feels like I have just taken a breath of fresh air. It tells the story of two people from completely different backgrounds, and somehow they manage to alter one another’s existence for the better. Most stories centered around billionaires or famous artists feel a little off, or somewhat fake, but this one felt very real and very human.
Aishwarya is a character you can’t help but love. She’s immensely talented and successful, and she’s just so nice. She would be someone you want to be friends with because the author inspires the character to be a spectacular human. She doesn’t try to impress anyone and, for some reason, that’s what makes her so powerful.
Then there's Stephan. At first, he appears to be your run-of-the-mill "tough boss" stereotype who only cares about money and power. He is cold and sarcastic, but as the story develops, you realize that this is only a facade. My favorite moment of the story is when Aishwarya is around. This is the best part for me because he doesn't just change overnight, but rather, it is a gradual, silent, and quiet change that allows us to understand that up until that moment, he had lived a rather lonely existence.
What I enjoyed the most about the story is that it did not include big theatrical fights to make the story interesting. Rather, it focuses on little moments that are easily overlooked, and perhaps, considered unimportant, such as a look, a smile, or a soft-spoken conversation, and everything about it just oozes warmth. This is just a reminder that the most powerful people often look for a space that allows them to unwind, be comfortable, and ultimately be themselves. The book has a simplistic and charming nature to it that is impossible to dislike. It is the perfect book for someone who's looking for a story that offers the comfort of a warm cup of tea on a cold, rainy day.

Book Review
i was really looking forward to reading this book because the title itself sounded very soft and dreamy. after finishing it, i honestly feel this book is made for people who enjoy slow emotional romance with lots of yearning and small meaningful moments.
what i liked most was the overall vibe of the story. it feels very cinematic while reading. sometimes it honestly felt like watching an old romantic movie with soft songs playing in the background. the retro indian cinema influence was visible and i actually enjoyed that a lot. the writing focuses more on emotions, admiration, little gestures and conversations instead of unnecessary drama all the time.
Aishwarya was easily my favourite part of the book. she feels warm, innocent and emotional without trying too hard. even her love for peonies and noodles made her feel more real and cute to me 😭 Stephan on the other hand starts as this cold billionaire type character but slowly you can see how deeply obsessed and soft he becomes around her. honestly some of his inner thoughts were dramatic but in a good romance-book way.
i also liked that the story takes its time. the tension builds slowly through conversations, memories, glances and small interactions. some scenes genuinely felt intimate without even needing anything big to happen. the peony symbolism throughout the story was also really beautiful.
the writing is simple and easy to read, and the emotional moments land nicely if you enjoy soft slow-burn romance. sometimes the characters feel larger than life, but that also becomes part of the charm of this world.
overall, this book felt comforting, dreamy and emotional at the same time. definitely a good pick for readers who enjoy soft romantic stories with longing, admiration and filmy vibes. this book honestly stayed in my mind after finishing it.

I am not a huge fan of the romance genre, but over the past year I have been stepping out of my comfort zone, and this book is the result.
This book drew me into a world of glamour, romance, and heartfelt emotions. It is a story about love, admiration, vulnerability, and how two people from completely different backgrounds gradually find their way to each other.
Aishwarya is talented, compassionate, and quietly confident, and she isn’t portrayed as flawless. The author gives us a glimpse of her fears, insecurities, and emotions, making her feel authentic and easy to connect with. In fact, I found myself rooting for her throughout the story.
Stephan is the perfect example of the brooding billionaire hero. Though he appears cold and distant at first, as the story unfolds, his caring and protective nature slowly comes to light. I liked that his transformation wasn't rushed. It happened naturally, making his character feel believable. The chemistry between him and Aishwarya develops gradually, and every interaction between them felt special.
I also liked the setting. The author beautifully brings together the worlds of books, filmmaking, and fame while capturing the warmth and charm of Mumbai. The journal entries style narration that is woven into the story added a lovely emotional depth.

As a reader, we always feel good when we get to read a book with a happy ending. This book is one such kind.
The plot of the book is quite simple, but still, it keeps you hooked until you reach the very last page. The story begins with Alonso receiving an invitation and a bouquet of peonies from his friend for his company's official success meet. The flowers in the bouquet bring back memories of his first love, Aishwarya, from college, followed by all the incidents flooding back. Alonso decides to attend the meeting, and what happens next is the rest of the story.
Following are some of the highlights of the book that stayed with me:

Review draft- field of peonies
So this was a sweet one, and I've got mixed feelings about it.
The thing that got me first was the world of it. It's a love story between two people from the film world, and it all plays out in Mumbai. The little details, the old-world feel of the place, the way it just hums in the background of the story.. that stuff made me happy. It's the kind of setting that makes a book feel cosy to sit inside.
The FMC really carried it for me. She's someone chasing her own dreams, full of love for stories and films, and that passion just radiates off her. I found myself rooting for her the whole way. And there are these little poems tucked into the book that I didn't expect to like as much as I did, they gave it this soft, heartfelt touch. The romance is gentle and easy to root for too, two very different people slowly fitting together.
Where it lost me a bit was the writing. My main thing was character development, they lacked the depth this story needed. How they're described and how they actually show up on the page didn't always line up, and every now and then it felt off. There's also this hint of some dark backstory for MMC that I kept waiting to go somewhere, and it just never really did. And the way the chapters were laid out tripped me up sometimes, the jumps weren't always smooth.
But honestly, I still closed it feeling good. It's got heart, it's got charm, but it just needed a little more smoothing out.

The Title and the Cover do not do justice to how good and incredible this book is. It's been a while since I have read a book that made me scream at the top of my lungs, because what was this book!! Reading the blurb you may assume that this is just a classic billionaire romance but NO. This is what I like to name the Genre a Thriller Dark romance.
I have to applaud the author on the quality of the CHARACTERS because when it comes to the romance genre it's easy to write bland or one sided characters, but not this one, every single individual in the book has a very clear and well rounded personality.
Now let's move on to the big 3s✨
Language: The language of this book was very unique, it was evolving, I loved how the language of the book grew with the CHARACTERS and it shifted with each character. Plus it was very easy to understand. I loved that the author has not used any unnecessary heavy words and also made the book even more enjoyable.
Characters: The characters of this book were the win for me, it's been a while I have seen such well rounded and well done characters. Every single one of them has a personality, has quirks and something unique to them.

This book follows Aishwarya and Stephan. Aishwarya is a filmmaker and author. She is making a film and needs a producer. Stephan steps in to take on that role, bringing them back into each other's lives.
From the book, Aishwarya is my favourite character. She loves literature and filmmaking. Her love and passion shine through pages. I love how the author focuses on her character, giving her ambition, depth and heart. It was inspiring to see her follow her own heart, her own path. She is definitely the best part of the book.
Stephan is described as a cold, reserved billionaire with some dark secrets. He fell in love with Aishwarya in college days. Despite describing himself as a tough character, sometimes he behaves like a teenager, like when his crush compliments him or talks to him, like when he fell in love for the first time. Which I found this little weird and funny too.
I like the romance. How their contrasting characteristics complement each other.
Though I enjoyed the plot, the writing is not for me. Sometimes Stephan's description as a character and his chapter POV don't match, making him feel like a different person at times. Sometimes I felt I was reading about someone else's pov in his chapter. The dark secrets of his past could have created a mystery or tension, but it couldn't. I picked The Field of Peonies with the intention of reading romance but I experiencing was more of it. This book did not felt to be dramatic.. I was surprised to find out that it dealt with the subject in a much milder and more touching way
Aishwarya was my favuorite character, as she was very talented both as an author and a director, but was always kind and humble. I have to say that I did made a imaginary figure of Stephan who is a very powerful billionaire as he is producer and businessman. I loved watching him soften around Aishwarya. Their relationship made more sense in terms of mutual respect and trust rather than a romance. There a past of Stephen he runs from as he was in "Mafia" gang.
I did not think I would like Rishi but I did as he is a perfect older protective brother type and all his appearances were making the story cozier. I also liked Kashish (a.k.a Latika) she added a other story within the story but I won’t share HOW will let you read and enjoy that yourself.
The setting of literature, film industry and location added to the beauty of this book in my opinion.

The Field of Peonies is a story that has ambition, romance and emotional connection that all mixed together. It feels like a fairy tale that is happening now. The story begins with Aishwarya Bansal a good Indian author and filmmaker. She has done well but is still a humble and kind person. I like that she is not perfect. This makes her seem like a person. I liked Aishwarya Bansal from the start because she loves storytelling and is an strong person. Then there is Stephan Alonso. He is a billionaire from Spain. He seems like a person who is hard to talk to. At first he seems like he does not care about people.. As the story goes on we see another side of him. I liked watching him change because of Aishwarya Bansal. The romance between Aishwarya Bansal and Stephan Alonso is written in a way. It does not feel like it is happening to happen. It feels natural because it happens through conversations and moments that make you happy. I like how The Field of Peonies is written. It is easy to understand. The story flows well. The emotional parts are the best. The story is not about people not understanding each other. It is about Aishwarya Bansal and Stephan Alonso connecting and trusting each other. If you like romance that happens slowly and stories, about people who are also emotional then you will like The Field of Peonies.

The field of Peonies was a wholesome dreamy drama for me. To genuinely live life is to live with love. I think it sounds perhaps overrated when one hears love is crux of existence but shut the white noise out, people say anything to look cool these days or even in past before you and I were here. This novel was a light hearted reading I was craving for a while because I love reading while recovery my nervous system.
The story dwells in living doing things one is passionate about, working on that “passion “ until the “until” happens.
Aishwarya Bansal is one of the main characters on whose life the novel primarily focus on. A silent girl with her silent ways of struggling and silently discovering solutions. Her demeanour is serving an epitome of feminine grace.
She is a passionate established writer and her works get adapted into motion pictures. One day, while directing a movie which was adapted from her novel, before she even had a chance to daydream and stay lovelorn about someone she was catching feeling for, her life was already becoming a movie like a big plot behind the scene and camera lenses.
The pace of the novel is not dramatic. Its progression soothes my soul and system and I took advantage of it, thoroughly enjoyed the calmness the pace delivers. It was just like standing in the field of peonies.

Stephen is a businessman and a producer who loves Aishwarya, but was never able to confess, whereas Aishwarya is a writer and is going to make a movie and looking out for a producer, their mutual friend and suggest that Stephen could be the producer. He was more than ready to help Aishwarya and to spend time with her.
Both of the characters have their own past story and let me say that was not very comforting. They had their trauma, but the way they felt in each other's embrace was something so pure and so loving that I really adored
