Transformational Relationships: Deciphering the Social Matrix in Psychotherapy

Rate this book
Transformational Relationships is a vital resource for therapists who want state-of-the-art information on what works in psychotherapy. To navigate successfully the complex demands of individualized treatment, a therapist needs to be able to recognize the social matrix against which the course of treatment is plotted. To this end, Dr. Short shares the most essential aspects of the therapist-patient relationship and how this powerful bond produces lasting transformation. Inside this book, the reader will discover a unique and compelling narrative of science and clinical wisdom. The book s first section deciphers key dynamics of social complementarity, such as dominance and submission, reciprocity, affective attunement, verification, and attachment. In the second section, the reader will learn how certain relational beacons facilitate complex interpersonal maneuvering without becoming diverted from essential therapeutic outcomes. As the reader will discover, the process of transformation begins long before the experience ends.

One of the best readings for anyone who is willing to embrace the therapist path. This book should be in hands of all the new young students of psychology and psychotherapy. Easy to understand, even for not native english speakers, with a clear set of practical ideas about change and relationships. As a young and enthusiastic psychologist and Hypnotherapist I can say this book gave me great confidence to keep my practice and to focus on important facts as a caregiver. Most of the times psychologic education's focus on learning manuals or instructions of how to act in a given situation, a step by step instruction, instead of focusing on the possibilities given by the relationship, the personality of the client and the inherent resources within him/her. Great read! this book needs to be translated to spanish soon please!
