Not So Little Red Dot is full of extraordinary stories that happened behind the scenes, from journeys into the world's most dangerous zones to untold tales of diplomats' secret negotiations. It provides rare insights into Singapore's adept diplomacy in a rapidly changing, turbulent world.
The book is made up of seven different stories involving the MFA (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and its diplomats. Each chapter starts with a short comic that summarizes the topic; an interesting way to use visuals to highlight key ideas and situations. The book shows how Singapore projects its vision to the outside world and maintains a consistent, steady approach to different international challenges and turmoils throughout its 60 years of independence.
As an insider, I had high hopes for this. But I suppose a public narrative, even one that purports to go "behind the scenes", cannot match up to the tales, gossip, and lived experiences of my fellow colleagues.
