I received this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
I’d give this a 3-3.5 stars I think, as I had moments where I thought it was really good but at other points, it felt slightly repetitive and obvious. It certainly came at the ideal time for me and I loved the concept and tone, and although I found some parts useful and certainly relatable, it didn’t feel like there was anything new to takeaway.
Thanks again to NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for this review.
This is a well-written and engaging book, and JT Thibado is clearly a talented storyteller. His personal story, particularly around queerness, spirituality, and finding his place in the world, is interesting and thoughtfully told.
That said, this book wasn’t for me. This is largely because it wasn’t what I was expecting, and the themes didn’t particularly align with my own interests. While I wasn’t looking for a step-by-step guide, I did expect the book to engage more directly with the experience of being stuck and moving through that feeling. Instead, it read more as a memoir about navigating identity, faith, and life more broadly.
The mirror moments and soul spells felt a little out of place for me, and I found the book strongest when it focused on storytelling rather than exercises.
Overall, while it didn’t resonate with me personally, nor did it relate to the title or description. A shame, as it was well written and would be a great read for those who would resonate more.
