Jen is loving her new single life until she gets an unexpected phonecall from her fuckboy ex, Babe, I didn't know who else to call, but I think there's something really wrong...
No, he hasn't stubbed his toe or locked himself out of his house. He’s dead! He makes Jen promise to hide him for 10 days while they figure out what to do. A promise Jen quickly regrets when she remembers all the things she hates about her too gorgeous, too flakey himbo ex. But she’s never been the type of girl to break a promise.
The She’ll make him want to leave (again). How hard could that be? If her zombie ex boyfriend doesn’t like listening from the sofa bed in the living room as she gets railed, that's a him problem.
The only thing is he kinda likes it... and the harder she tries to make him pay, the harder he pushes to get her back. And the more he pushes, the more Jen realizes her zombie ex boyfriend has changed. Like, when did he get cute all of a sudden?
How To Lose A Zombie In 10 Days is a cozy monster rom com in the How I Met My Monster series. It's a standalone romance with a HEA featuring a hotwife/cuck dynamic and a zombie MMC who starts out all red flags and ends up getting some major upgrades (think bits sewn on… or taken off to play with…)
Ami Wright is a romance author who loves history, food, travel, trashy TV and smutty books. She loves writing science fiction romance with time travelling Romans, feisty cat people and plenty of spice!
Ami lives in Australia with her partner and two kids. If she ever gets any spare time between working, writing and mothering, she reads, cooks, watches history documentaries and dreams of the days when international travel becomes a reality again!
Jen is just starting to get over her toxic ex, when he calls her desperately asking for help and a place to stay. It turns out Adam has slept with the wrong person and she has turned him into a zombie. Jen caves and agrees to let him stay with her for 10 days but in the meantime she’s going to make his life hell so he’ll leave as quick as possible.
I chose this book based on the title and didn’t read the blurb, so this was not what I was expecting, it was so much better. It has so many funny parts, that I couldn’t have even imagined, it had me chuckling away to myself.
It’s definitely nice and spicy, with some great monster scenes. I’ll never look at a dragon the same way again.
Jen is a likeable and relatable character. Her heart was broken by Adam and she has serious trust issues when it comes to him but the tension is undeniable. I did feel like she had some cringey text though. Adam had great character development and he’s the perfect zombie boyfriend.
The only thing that confused me was that there are other supernaturals in the world but you don’t find that out till later in the book, I think it might’ve been helpful to know that from the beginning.
Overall, I rate this 4⭐️ 4🌶️ it’s funny & spicy. I definitely recommend if you’re looking for an easy read, monster romance, rom com.
This was an adorable and unique take on monster romance that is making we want more human x zombie pairings STAT!
My absolutely favorite part of this book was Adam’s transformation! He went from a red flag playboy to an emotionally considerate, golden retriever basically overnight, and that just hit so hard for this playboy loving monster lover. From basically becoming Jen’s househusband (by his own choice), to the absolutely best period care, to being a knight in shining armor for Jen’s best friend who he didn’t even care for, Adam showed in spades how much he had grown after his zombification. I absolutely loved seeing all the sweet things he did for her and how much he really appreciated her and realized how much he had messed up before.
Further, I loved that Jen made him work for it after he burned her, but she was still there for him. She showed that at her core she was a caring individual, but she wasn’t going to let him walk all over her after how he treated her previously. I loved watching him tear down her walls with every step in the right direction, and I enjoyed watching her come to terms with the fact that he was a changed man. They really did have great chemistry, so I was glad this second chance romance was able to work out for both of them 😊
I enjoyed the hilarity of missing body parts and the delicious edging that ran throughout the story as well 😉
Thank you to Ami Wright for the eARC! The thoughts and opinions expressed above are honest and my own.
Ami Wright def has a way w worlds and second chances. Adam and Jen were fire and gasoline. she knew she didnt want him back in her life, but maybe a removable appendage was the way back into a girl's heart. The back and forth was hilarious. the growth the MMC had was chefs kiss 🤌 the FMC def made him work for it. but 2nd chances have been my weakness lately and this one was soo good! dont mess w the supes they will band together to make it all work out. Adam had no idea this would be the best bad day of his life! Jen had no idea she could even want him back let alone share the love 😉 I'm going to have to dive head first into the other books of this world asap!
ARC Review of @ami_wright_author ‘s new book: How to Lose a Zombie in 10 Days. Out NOW!
A second chance romance, set in modern London with a twist. Adam, Jen’s hot, but immature ex-boyfriend has turned into a zombie. When Adam calls Jen, it’s up to her to help him work through this new world and see the man he truly is.
Through the book we watch Adam’s character grow and find what truly matters in the after life. Jen is hesitant to accept the change in Adam, heck he’s the one that broke it off with her! We watch our Main characters struggle with their past, and see into their future together.
Extremely steamy and fast paced.
Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys paranormal romances!
We're thrown into Jen's day as she's getting ready for a date who stands her up. Adam, her ex, calls her, and she begrudgingly ends up letting him stay over her place because he has a slight problem: he's becomes zombie. And those pesky feelings are starting to come back. Will she give him another chance?
Jen is a nurse. She's sassy and speaks her mind and sarcastic. At first, she and Adam don't even communicate properly, which is frustrating. In a lot of ways she also shows immaturity, especially near the beginning, like arguing/insulting Adam for no apparent reason, which quite irks me - then again, she is trying to get rid of, only, not hard enough in my opinion. At the same time, I do like it when she puts him in his place in certain situations when he bullshits her.
Adam does have character growth. He's a personal trainer, good-looking and cocky. But going from human to a zombie is quite life changing. Before the change, he's careless and immature, but as he reflects over his past actions, how he treated others. He can be rather sweet, too, and grows from his emotional blockages. It causes him to see life through a different perspective and appreciate it, and be grateful for what he has or had. I actually find him adorable by the end of the book. An endearing person at heart.
Overall, the story pacing is just right and doesn't drag and keeps my attention from start to finish. Also, there's surprisingly raw emotions woven through all of the hilarity that ensues throughout the plot. Crazy, a little unhinged, and detached body parts exist. The smutty/spicy scenes are written well. The plot-line is fun and chaotic. Such a fun, light-hearted, and cosy read! AND WHAT AN ENDING WITH JEN, ADAM, AND ASTOR. メ૦メ૦💋
4.5 Stars rounded up ~ This was a fun and spicy romcom with zombie/monster twist that was way more satisfying than I was expecting. I knew from the trope map and ARC sign up vaguely what I was getting into when I started reading, but authors sometimes promise things and don’t follow through, or they’ll only give us the tiniest of tastes — Ami Wright did not do that, homegirl followed through!! And I gotta say, 😏 I’m a fan. Even when I wasn’t a huge fan of the FMC! Which doesn’t happen often, but I really liked Adam? And I really liked the way both Adam and Jen grow together, but getting TO Jen’s growth was frustrating at times lol. This could’ve been intentional on the author’s part though, and I will give her kudos for making me feel things, even negative things, towards Jen.
The whole story overall was, regrettably, NOT like the title’s namesake romcom, which might aggravate some people. If I had any expectations about that I might’ve been too, but honestly this was a really fun, spicy romp that I didn’t really notice that "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" was only casually mentioned like twice (maybe three times?) because I was just enjoying the ride. There were no lulls or parts where I was wanting more from a scene, it was far too easy to sit down and inhale the whole book. The pacing was near-perfect and I think that helped how fast it read.
I won’t give any steamy details because spoilers but I’m extremely glad that Ami actually delivered on the cuckolding, especially at the end of the book. 🥵 I would love to read more of that particular angle 🐉 — but I would also just love to read more in this particular world. It was well-constructed and left me curious about the other supes. For example, I want to find out what the SEO’s deal is with the Zombie-prejudice! The vamp in the story mentioned undead supes are treated poorly, but we didn’t get a whole lot more (I kind want to read his story too, lol, maybe with that badass Barbara!!). I have so many questions (in a good way) and I don’t feel ready to leave Ami’s monster world yet.
Thank you to the author for the ARC! It was a pleasure! (And I spy a back catalog with my name on it now 😉)
First things first, thank you so much to Amy Wright for the ARC! I’m so grateful I got to dive into this chaotic, hilarious, zombie-filled ride before release. And wow… I was not prepared for how fun this book would be.
Because let me tell you something…
I did not expect to be this emotionally invested in a zombie!!!
Like… at all. 🧟♂️
This book is what happens when romantic comedy meets apocalypse survival, and somehow it works perfectly. The humor had me laughing out loud while the tension and chemistry kept me turning pages way past bedtime.
Ellie is the kind of heroine I absolutely love—sarcastic, stubborn, and trying her best to survive the literal end of the world… while also dealing with the small inconvenience of a zombie who refuses to leave her alone.
And this isn’t just any zombie.
Nope
This one protects her. Watches her. Follows her everywhere.
Honestly?
The clinginess is kind of attractive to me 🙈
The premise alone is hilarious: Ellie has ten days to lose the zombie following her around before someone discovers she’s basically harboring the undead.
The problem?
Every time she tries to ditch him…
He comes back like a lost puppy!!!
Like the world’s most terrifying and oddly loyal golden retriever.
The banter, the ridiculous situations, and the growing connection between Ellie and her very unusual companion made this book impossible to put down. There’s humor, heart, chaos, and just enough tension to keep things deliciously entertaining.
By the end I was:
🧟 laughing 🧟 stressed 🧟 emotionally attached to a zombie 🦄 wondering about unicorns 🤭
Which honestly feels like a new personal milestone.
If you love:
Spicy 🌶️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ hilarious paranormal chaos sarcastic heroines unconventional romance zombie apocalypse with rom-com vibes books that make you laugh while still giving you feelings
then you absolutely need to pick this one up.
Final verdict: Darkly funny, weirdly charming, and wildly entertaining.
And yes… I’m officially rooting for zombies now.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you again to Amy Wright for the ARC and the chance to read this early. I had an absolute blast with it!
ARC REVIEW How to Lose a Zombie in 10 Days by @ami_wright_author ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️¼ (4.25/5)
What a wildly fun, ultra-sexy monster romance. In a world where supernatural creatures exist out in the open, Adam turning into a zombie—thanks to a curse—is only really a problem for him… and his ex-girlfriend Jen, who he runs to for help.
What I loved most is that Adam’s biggest transformation isn’t physical—it’s emotional. He goes from an immature, selfish partner to someone who truly understands what it means to love and show up for another person. When they were together before, Jen was carrying the entire relationship—managing their home, their lives, and her full-time job as a nurse—while Adam coasted. Watching him realize that love isn’t about taking, but about giving without expectation, was incredibly satisfying. By the end, he’s the ultimate (zombie) boyfriend.
Jen, meanwhile, has the patience of a saint—because I would have told him to get lost immediately. Letting your ex crash on your couch is one thing. Letting him blast music in the morning and leave milk out overnight? Absolutely not. That said, Jen isn’t perfect either. She tends to bottle things up rather than communicate, which only fuels her resentment. Watching her learn to voice her needs instead of suffering in silence added a really nice layer of growth to their dynamic.
I also loved how expansive this world feels. We get glimpses of minotaurs, vampires, shifters, and dragons, and I would happily dive deeper into every corner of it.
At its core, this book doesn’t take itself too seriously—and that’s exactly what makes it work. It’s chaotic, spicy, a little unhinged, and just an all-around good time.
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC!
For fans of: 🧟 Zombie MMC x Human FMC | 👻 Monster Rom-Com | 🔁 Second Chance | 💀 Undead MMC | 💅 Sassy, Sarcastic FMC | 😈 Monster With a Heart | 🔥 High Heat | 🧩 Detachable Body Parts
❤️ “In my experience, second chances are worth it.” ~~~ Jen is awesome! She’s sassy, sarcastic, sharp and always speaks her mind. Even more, she’s very caring, compassionate and hardworking. And I loved that she never hesitates to go after the things she wants. Jen is a wonderful woman and I liked her very much!
And then, there’s Adam! He’s gorgeous, charming, a bit flakey and doesn’t take adulting seriously. Until something happens and he ends up a bit zombified. Turns out that people could actually change, and there’s nothing like death to change a person. Now zombie Adam is something else entirely - caring, thoughtful, responsible, dotting, protective and quite the gentleman. He becomes one utterly irresistible male and I couldn’t help but love everything about him!
I loved everything that happened between Jen and Adam! Jen is working hard and living her single life to the fullest. Until one day, her ex-boyfriend turns up on her doorstep with a pretty big problem - he appears to be a little… dead. And because she has a soft heart underneath her slightly bitchy exterior and is a really good person, she not only agrees to help him, but allows him to stay with her for a while.
I loved Jen and Adam together! Their chemistry was fantastic and I had so much fun with their interactions - their banters and bickering were a delight. And I also loved the effort both put into their own growth and into working on their communication. Even more, the spice was hot AF! Who could’ve thought that having a zombie boyfriend with detachable parts would be so fun?! Jen and Adam were perfect for each other and absolutely deserved a second chance in happiness and love together!
Overall, How to Lose a Zombie in 10 Days is a fun, emotional, sweet and wickedly naughty story and I loved every single page of it!
This was my first ever spicy zombie romance and honestly… it was a wild ride for me. I’m still not entirely sure what I expected going in, but I definitely didn’t expect “detachable 🍆." That one might be on me for underestimating just how creative monster romance can get.
At the heart of the story are Jen and Adam, exes who are forced back into each other’s lives when Adam shows up with a pretty major problem: he’s undead and needs help. I really liked both of them as characters. Jen’s lingering frustration with Adam felt very relatable, and Adam’s personality shift after becoming undead actually made a lot of sense. The former flaky himbo turning into a total sweetie cinnamon roll was very endearing.
What I especially enjoyed was watching them navigate their complicated history. Despite the whole “one of them is a zombie” situation, their relationship struggles felt pretty real. They even go to couples therapy. Watching Adam slowly break down Jen’s walls was very satisfying.
Once the spice kicks in, it definitely goes all in. The book also plays with a hotwife/cuck dynamic, which added an interesting twist. And yes… the detachable anatomy led to some truly interesting moments. I was genuinely laughing while reading, especially when Jen takes his 🍆 with her for the day as punishment. Trying to explain that scene to my husband afterwards was hilarious.
Overall, this was a funny, and very spicy monster rom-com that didn’t take itself too seriously while still delivering a satisfying romance. If you’re in the mood for something weird, funny, and a little unhinged in the best way, this is a fun one to pick up. I received this as an ARC from the author and I’m definitely interested in checking out more.
Jen’s ex-boyfriend Adam is a zombie. Like… actually undead. And somehow he ends up asking her for help. Against her better judgment, she agrees to let him stay with her—but only for ten days. After that, he’s out. The problem? Adam isn’t the same immature, lazy, cocky guy she used to date. Being undead has apparently given him a whole new perspective on life, and he’s starting to act like a completely different person. As Jen spends more time with him, she starts questioning whether her feelings for him might be changing too.
Honestly… what did I just read? This book was wild. Between detached body parts, Adam wearing women’s panties, and some truly bizarre moments, the whole story was definitely on the weird side.
That said, I did enjoy Adam’s character growth. Becoming a zombie forces him to realize how precious life is, and he starts reflecting on how badly he treated people before. Watching him try to become a better person was probably my favorite part of the book.
There were a few plot points that felt a little unfinished, though. For example, Jen calls a guy who’s supposedly studying zombies, and it seemed like that was going to lead somewhere important—but it never really did. The book also had a lot of smut, and sometimes it felt like those scenes were added just to make things as outrageous as possible.
Overall, I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either. Ami Wright is clearly a capable writer, but this one just didn’t fully land for me. If you enjoy chaotic, weird paranormal rom-coms and aren’t afraid of some very strange moments, you might still have fun with it. ✨Thank you to Ami Wright for the ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ HEA? yes 3rd act break-up? no 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️/5
Well that was.. something I'm honestly not sure how feeling after reading this haha, but over all this lil novella was entertaining! I was expecting a bit more How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days, based on the title, only a fantasy/monster version. But I was kinda missing the Kate Hudson crazy from our FMC Jen, I may have just set different expectations though. This book is DEFINITELY smutty, (still unsure how I feel about the swapping of c0Ck$ to us as a toy).. but if monster p0rN is your thing then this read is for you! I'm also guessing the author is British/English since the way it was written had a lot of references which personally felt off to me, but may not bother others. This was my 1st zombie romance novella & there were some parts that had me like This story is a rom com so its reads pretty light, but didn't have me cackling as much as I'd hoped. If your not used to reading much monster romance/fantasy make sure you READ the intro for trigger warnings! living x undead-Zombie relationship sexual monster relationship dismemberment consumption of organs light stalking
Thankful for the opportunity to read this ARC, but I'm thinking I might just need to broaden my monster reads cause I didn't love this as much as I was hoping. I did inherently like this, it just took a bit to digest some parts! 3.2
This book was such a good How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days retelling!!
Jen and Adam had a rough breakup and Jen is trying to move on but suddenly Adam shows back up in her life... And this time he's a zombie and wants to stay with her because he's scared adjusting to this new life. Because of how awful Adam was to her, she decides to be a terrible housemate and get him to want to leave her house as soon as possible. But she's finding it hard to shake him and suddenly he's a good housemate and maybe even a good partner? Perhaps becoming undead was the best thing he could do for their relationship.
I loved the dynamics between Jen and Adam because you could totally see where both of them were coming from in their feelings but they also both obviously still liked and cared about each other. The roommate/housemate relationship is such a fun one to play with and I loved that level of forced proximity.
The spice in this book was great! Along with living together but not being in a relationship comes some interesting things like perhaps some late night bedroom guests. Adam is also still learning how his zombie peen works and maybe Jen can help him out with that too? As with zombies there are removable body parts including some of the spicier variety. There's some toy play and some other fun bedroom stuff too.
I thought the worldbuilding was also really well done. The supernatural was well known and common enough in this world but zombies were still unheard of and even feared. It created the perfect balance of unknown but believable to the characters in this world.
A fun, spicy book all around. I had a blast with this!
3.5 stars rounded up (ARC copy received in exchange of an honest review)

“I’m wanted. And the hottest woman on the planet is giving me a second chance. My life might have been pretty average, but death’s been kind to me.”
── ✦ ── ✦ ── ✦ ──
This was very cute. If I am being honest, second chance romance is usually sitting comfortably in my bottom three tropes, but this one worked for me. The chemistry between them was clearly there from the start. It never felt like two people forcing something that was not real, it felt like two idiots who loved each other but had absolutely no idea how to communicate properly.
Adam was such a goofy little himbo and I loved that for him. The man was trying. Like really trying. It made him very easy to root for. Jen, on the other hand, did test my patience a bit. She put a lot of the blame onto Adam when she was not exactly a shining example of communication either. That said, once they both actually started talking to each other like adults, the relationship really clicked.
The humour landed for me too. The spice was genuinely funny, especially with the detachable… situation, which I did not expect but absolutely laughed at. A rom com lives or dies on whether it can actually make you laugh, and this one managed it more than once.
My only real complaint, and honestly the only reason this did not end up as a 5 star read, is that the premise felt a bit underused. The title implies she is going to spend the whole book trying to get rid of him, but she barely tries. It happens once and then the idea just kind of disappears. It felt like wasted comedic potential.
Still, overall this was a really fun read. Light, funny, and surprisingly sweet. And I have to say, the cover is adorable. Big thanks to Ami for the ARC.
This certainly was something 😂😂😂 Before anything I just want to say that I didn't catch the hotwife/cuckholding trope before I started reading and when I noticed it listed at the beginning I was already set on reading it and that trope is NOT for me. So glossing over those parts (they really aren't frequent) and dealing with the rest of the story I can say that overall, it was good. I love the monster romcom thing and the story is pretty light and fluffy but Jen and Adam do tackle some heavy subjects together while navigating their second chance. There's a reason their relationship ended and Jen isn't too keen on forgiving Adam for being an absolute tool the last time around. But when he calls her absolutely desperate after he has seemingly died she doesn't know what to do other than help him because surely he's got to be crazy, right? Skin tone, appetite, and sleeping needs aren't the only things that have seemed to change about Adam when his heart stopped beating and despite her logic Jen can't help the way his new found care and consideration makes hers race. Sometimes a little death is all it takes to realize how much of a prick you are and sometimes all you need is someone to carry your dick around in their purse to remind you of where you want to be💁
Special shoutout to the karaoke scene You're so special... 😍🥰
Okay this is going to sound unhinged, but stay with me…
This was my very first zombie monster romance, and no, we are not talking about the The Walking Dead kind of zombies. Not even close. This is hotter, weirder, and honestly better.
Adam is a full on himbo who gets himself cursed by a witch, which feels very on brand, and ends up turning into a zombie. Naturally, his solution is to go back to his ex Jen for help. Jen reluctantly lets him stay while he tries to figure things out, even though there are clearly unresolved feelings and a whole lot of chemistry still hanging between them.
And listen, zombie Adam is an upgrade. I said what I said. The changes are noticeable, and Jen is definitely not mad about it.
This book is spicy in the way that sneaks up on you and then refuses to slow down. Ami delivers that perfect mix of emotional character growth and completely chaotic monster romance energy. The characters actually evolve, which makes everything hit harder.
Also, we need to talk about the removable appendages. Yes, removable. I will not be explaining further, but just know your imagination is probably already headed in the right direction.
Add in some hotwife energy, a lot of tension, and a premise that should not work but absolutely does, and you get a wildly entertaining, surprisingly emotional, very spicy ride.
Final verdict, I came for the chaos, stayed for the feelings, and maybe also for the detachable situation.
I had so much fun with this book! Jen is a nurse who's been single for the last few months and is going on dates looking for some company and fun. Most of the guys can't really compete with her ex in bed, though, and it's quite disappointing. She hated many things about her ex, but she will never forget how well-endowed he was and what that equipment did to her when they were still trying to make their relationship work. Adam is a personal trainer who's a bit of a dog with good looks and physique (and huge equipment) that seemed to think in the past he was a god's gift to womankind ;) Thankfully, in this book, we didn't see much of that. After he became a zombie, his personality changed, too. Yeah, he was still cocky, but he was also sweet. Jen was the only person he knew who was reliable and goodhearted enough to help with his newfound undead-ness. Adam was also ready to man up, think about what he did to piss her off in their past relationship, and work on it. There were many funny moments and loads of smut in this book, and I was there for it! The detachable appendage was a brilliant idea ;) I've never read a book with their kink, but it was great, it wasn't a degrading kind of kink, so I could enjoy their dynamic.
Adorable, touching, witty, heartbreaking, brilliant, frightful, hotHotHOT, hilarious, and exciting. How to Lose a Zombie in 10 Days is great reading. Jen is full on black cat personality to Adam’s melted buttery-centered cinnamon roll. He is an absolute doll—breaking down her walls one unexpected sincere gesture at a time. The way their relationship evolves kinda surprised me—but then again it didn’t—I guess I’m still confused on how I feel about this—and it’s all ME letting these weird not normally ‘mine’ opinions filter through, making me all judgy. Which, for the record, is weird, because I could care less what people do and I am certainly no vanilla or God forgive me saint. Anyway, this new undead Adam is incredibly selfless, gets off on Jen’s pleasure—regardless of where she gets it. I guess I just feel sorry for his 🍆. Jen talks about how perfect it is, but it gets left, seemingly forgotten so often … poor thing. *** Recommended ***
Thank you to Ami Wright, the author, for an advanced copy of this book. I'm leaving a voluntary review.
I went into this book reading some new tropes and while I have NO known triggers as of now, I did not escape this book without some new kinks and unexpectedly interesting new tropes to read. This was such a refreshingly HOT book. I loved the beginning where Adam and Jen have a not so great dynamic. As the reader you expect the normal second chance trope but this one has some EXTRA flare and spice I did not see coming but it was so very welcomed from the moment it came to life on page. The warnings do tell you but they were much HOTTER than I anticipated. I LOVED how Adam changed and the growth and understanding that JEN and ADAM had as characters throughout the book. NOW the SPICE. OMG, the reattaching the appendages and using a certain one for recreation was brilliant and a take I can say I've never seen before. The HOTWIFE and CUCK sharing was new to me but I'm happy to report its a welcomed new kink I will be reading more of. This was a cute, sweet and spicey, a cozy story of second chances and changing for the good. But I love a story that gives me new life lessons and experiences, and this author did just that is the Hottest way with this cozy zombie love.
A Deliciously Messy, Zombie-Filled Rom-Com This books follows Jen. Jen is an ER nurse and is currently loving her single live. Until... her himbo ex boyfriend, Adam, calls her in a panic: “babe, I think I'm dead”. Not the death in the figurative way, no, literal. He is undead, a zombie. He asks Jen to stay with her until he figures stuff out. Jen, the sweetheart she is complies. This book y'all, I Laughed so hard. Jen is sharp, sarcastic and so real. I loved her. She's so done with Adams bullshit and calls him out for it. I loved reading her internal monologue. Adam starts as a classic himbo: glorious, selfish and emotionally stunted. But being death does wonders for him and is giving him the glow up of the century. He is still a mess but he is trying. The whole second change arc was executed well. What would have worked even better is a bit more world building. At the beginning of the book is was unclear that supernatural creatures exist in this world. That is something that got highlighted/hinted at further in the book. Oh and the certain detachable body part.... HILARIOUS.
This was my first Ami Wright book and man, what a wild book to start with.
I actually really enjoyed this book. It really leaned into the silliness of this concept while also portraying character growth and depth in our MCs. Jen is a nurse who reluctantly decides to help out her ex Adam after he calls her in a panic. Jen doesn’t want Adam in her life anymore, so she does what any normal woman would do and tries her best to get him out in various ways, but still he refuses to leave. I really enjoyed watching them grow together and discuss the negative aspects of their relationship and figure out how to move forward together. Plus, it was fun learning the zombie rules in this world and watching Jen, and Adam, use his new found zombie-ness in very creative ways.
This is one I will definitel be rereading and I’m looking forward to checking out more of her work, because I definitely need to know more about the lore of this world. I definitely recommend this book if you’re into monsters, reformed Himbos and second chance romances.
Thank you to Ami Wright for an advanced copy of this book. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was my first foray into zombie monster romance and it was so fun! I’ve only read wolf or vampire before, but this sounded like a good time!
Jen is a nurse who is casually dating after her last relationship with narcissist and laze about Adam. Until she gets a late night phone call from said ex freaking out because he thinks he’s dead! His friends ghost him and since Jen is a nurse, she’s the only one he can go to. Jen reluctantly agrees to see him.
What follows is a very sexy unenthusiastic roommate situation as they figure out what is happening to Adam and how to fix it. Very spicy and honestly hilarious hiking ensue. I loved the banter between the main characters and I thought Adam was just adorable. I loved how his character learned and grew emotionally am throughout the novel which helped Jen lower her walls and realize maybe she wasn’t perfect either….
I thoroughly enjoyed this light hearted story.
Tropes and triggers: monster romance/sex, cuck, dismemberment, light gore (duh zombie story) stalking
OMG I did not fully know what I was getting into with this! Jen is just getting back into the dating game after Adam broke up with her. He was no good, anyways so she feels like maybe she shouldn't be so upset by it. But she does miss certain...parts...of him. But then he calls one day freaking out because he's dead. Or rather, undead. The story goes wild from there. There is a LOT of smut, so steer clear if you don't like that. But there was definitely a lot of that story that could have made this a GOOD story, like the ending . Adam and Jen go through some growth though, and while it may have seemed rushed, we have to remember that they had already been together before! So this was a great, quick read. Fun, but not serious, so please do NOT go into this thinking there is going to be anything serious about it. If you need something to palette cleanse, this is your go to though!
Thank you to the author for the ARC, I'm happy to leave this review in exchange!
I don’t think I’ve read anything quite like this before...and that's a good thing! This my first book by Ami Wright and it didn't disappoint - I really love the way she writes! It’s so funny and witty without feeling try-hard or cringey. Jen is such a strong FMC: funny, a little snippy, understandably guarded because of how Adam treated her in the past. I really liked that she didn’t just immediately soften so you get to see her slowly open back up. Adam, on the other hand, is…a lot. He can be kind of annoying in a way that’s so endearing. His character growth was great and I loved seeing him go from the self-absorbed guy Jen tells us he was to someone who genuinely wants to take care of her. Definitely a black cat x golden retriever dynamic! The spice also caught me off guard in a good way. It explores dynamics I don’t usually care for but it worked and added something unique to their relationship. Overall, this was weird, chaotic, funny, completely unhinged, and unexpectedly heartfelt. I enjoyed it so much!
ARC REVIEW — I don’t know what it is about second chance romances lately, but I’ve been picking more and more of them up. Jen and Adam were no exception. Adam being a zombie with *needs* was a great addition to the razzle dazzle he brought to the plot. Jen was a character I could so easily relate to; from being a workaholic to figuring out how to let someone in again (after resisting it). With Adam, from going to a guy who didn’t consider anyone else, to someone whose perspective actually changed and proved it by SHOWING … not just using their words. And not just to Jen, but to the other people that he was around. Anyone like that left? Just saying your behavior’s changed without actually showing… don’t impress me much. I’m definitely TEAM ADAM. ♥️
Their spicy dynamic wasn’t THE center stage of the story, but it definitely was a highlight. Where they did complement each other personality wise, Jen and Adam also had amazing chemistry. GREAT. CHEMISTRY. ♥️
HAPPY RELEASE DAY AMI WRIGHT and How to Lose a Zombie in 10 Days! BRAVA DARLING! ♥️
Jen Honestly, I didn’t like Jen the first 30% of the book. She was self absorbed and trying her hardest to get rid of someone who came to her for help. I get that she was reluctant to trust Adam again but she was malicious at some points.
Adam Dying really did change him for the better. Adam has a one night stand with the wrong witch and ends up cursed as a zombie. His group of friends ghost him when he asks for help. So he reaches out to the one person he hasn’t been able to forget, his ex Jen. That’s rough, you dïë, your “friends” ignore you and you have no where to go.
Adam takes actual strides to make amends and try to steps like going to couples therapy to work through their issues. Jen treated it like a joke. I loved how Adam was constantly putting Jen first and would delay his gratification for them both.
They really started to talk and learn more about what the other actually wanted out of the relationship. Creating a unique dynamic between them.
Did I ever truly believe that a Zombie Rom Com was what I needed in my life? Turns out, I was painfully wrong – and I couldn't be happier to be proven so! This book is exactly as hilarious, bizarre, and heartfelt as the blurb and cover promise. And honestly, I wouldn’t expect anything less from Ami — every one of her works hits you straight in the soul and sticks with you long after you’ve finished.
Amidst the chaos of misplaced dicks and tangled up romances, the story still manages to surprise me, to delight me, to make me laugh till I cry. It’s wild, it’s weird, it’s oh-so-beautiful. And I keep coming back for more because I know, with every page, I’m signing up for a rollercoaster of laughs, love, and lust — emotions so raw, so real, they almost hurt.
That’s the magic of Ami’s books. They’re addictive in the best way, whisking me away to a world where I can lose myself — and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
This was such a fun and steamy little read! The way this author had me cracking up from all of the banter and then fanning myself from all the spice is an art form! This FMC is a gorgeous, independent woman that despite being a whole snack cannot seem to find her special someone. The MMC is a tall drink of hot zombie that was just floating through life until he ended up in this predicament...and why the only person he thought he could turn to was his ex-girlfriend should explain how little he was truly over her. These two do a lot of learning and healing together...but one thing that isn't a problem is their chemistry. These two are HAWT together! And the way I was cracking up when his most prized possession detached....but then we quickly realize that this is not as much of a hardship as we initially thought! I typically don't gravitate towards zombie romance...but I love this author....and I'm so glad I took the chance. Totally worth it!
Listen. I thought I’d read every flavor of monster romance — dragons, demons, tentacled hunky, forest guardians — but a zombie with detachable… equipment was new even for me. I wasn’t ready for how fun this book was🤭
Adam, our undead love interest, comes with a feature I never knew belonged in romance: a detachable 🍆 that stays connected to his senses.
And Jen? Oh, she makes use of that feature. The place and mischief she gets into. The way Adam sits across the room, fully aware of every sensation, trying to keep his undead composure. The tension is delicious🤤
Adam’s detachable parts like customizable accessories — stitchable & swappable😏. It’s equal parts absurd, hot and strangely intimate.
And then there’s the scene where they invite a third monster into the mix. Adam watching someone else use their… “double toy” with Jen? Let's just say Ami knows her spice!🔥
If you’re bored of the usual monster tropes, this one will jolt you back to life😁

Imagine your toxic ex calls you asking for help 🙄 and you actually say yes only to find out he’s now a zombie. And let’s say you discover is peen can be DETACHED and so you decide to torture him 😏
But then he starts being nice 🤨 like nicer than he ever was before…what do???
Hahaha I loved this book so much!! It was an exciting read and the story line was (mostly) relatable because who wouldn’t want to get a lil bit of revenge on an ex every once in a while?!
Book blurb: How To Lose A Zombie In 10 Days is a cozy monster rom com in the How I Met My Monster series. It’s a standalone romance with a HEA featuring a hotwife/cuck dynamic and a zombie MMC who starts out all red flags and ends up getting some major upgrades (think bits sewn on… or taken off to play with…)
