This story is a little far fetched but I still enjoyed it. I read this years ago and wanted to revisit the crazy young lady. Things could have been done simply but she wouldn't have found her love.

I read this book for two reasons. One, I'm trying to figure out how to borrow ebooks from my library and this is my first success, so yay. Second, this is one of those "I know I've read this before" books as I recognize the very purple cover, and as I read little details from the story would come back to me.

The whole story is propelled by the power of Dallas Durango's bad decisions. She runs away from her private school and is working in Philadelphia where she discovers a drunk passed out on the street. She picks him up, takes him back to his hotel room and beds him with nary a care in the world for disease or possible pregnancy. She runs off again, this time to Missouri, where she's robbed and nearly raped. When the drunk shows up again, Dallas disguises herself as a boy and joins the Pony Express.

Quint Randolph is a drunk, end of story. It was his drinking that cause the Great Tragedy in his past. He was dead drunk when he slept with Dallas. His idea of breakfast is a brandy. There's just too much baggage. Of course anybody stupid enough to sleep with a drunk stranger isn't going to see that.

When Quint finally wakes up (alone) he's not even sure if he had sex or if it had just been a dream. Deciding yes, he did have intercourse, Quint concludes that even though he has no idea what the woman looks like or anything about her he must find his "dark angel" and marry her, because this is love, damnit! He hires a detective to turn the city upside down in search of the mystery woman although all he can tell the detective to look for is dark hair. (I just wonder how the detective went about his job with so little to work with. Did he simply go up to every dark haired woman on the street and ask, "Excuse me, did you pick a drunk up off the street and sleep with him?")

When Quint and Dallas are thrown together again, she's already working for the Pony Express and he's worried about why he's so sexually attracted to this young boy. He quickly figures out she's really a girl (what a relief for him) and somehow also realizes she's his dark angel. The two marry and immediately embody the old saying of Marry In Haste, Repent In Leisure.

And if I have to hear "'If only' are the two saddest words" one more time, I'm gonna slap somebody.

I normally don't read romance novels, but this one wormed its way into my heart. I thought that the plot was wonderful.

Nevada Nights definitely a keeper!

Great Indian romance between a woman and two men who compete for her love. Ms. Gentry does her homework to make you feel like you are actually witnessing history in the making. A definite 5 star review!!!

What can one say about a good clean romance. Makes you feel good at the end when everything works out for the heroine.
