Twenty-two romance novels later, shestill enjoys writing and realizes she's been blessed to have found what she loves to do.
The winner of numerous awards, Nan Ryan says one of the nicest things ever written about her was printed in the St. Petersburg Times. Correspondent AnnV. Hull wrote: "Romance novelist Nan Ryan could step right into the pages of one of her paperbacks. Tall and slender, with smokey eyes and pearly skin,Nan Ryan looks like movie star Jessica Lange's older sister. This is another book on my keeper shelf. I've read Love Me Tonight over and over again thru the years and I've enjoyed it just as much as the first time. Highly recommended for historical western post-civil war fans. :-)

🥰 JOYA de la novela romántica histórica. ¡Y qué novelón! Una historia que lo tiene todo. Ambientada en Spanish Fort, una población de Alabama, la lectora romántica estará ante un amor lleno de pasión entre Helen y Kurt, un par de personajes secundarios que le son infieles a sus respectivas parejas, otros como Emm, la mejor amiga de Helen y el Sheriff Cooper que son adorables y tremendos porque él es un héroe de la guerra, que se siente intimidado por ésta pequeña mujer que es Emm; Pero también tenemos personajes con alto poder como Niles Loveless, la orgullosa Yasmine, las ancianas hermanas Livingston, todos rodean a nuestros personajes principales en una ciudad donde la actividad bulle luego de la guerra de Secesión pero las habladurías y la desconfianza persiguen a Helen y Kurt. Él es un capitán yanqui, que necesita trabajo, viudo, con un hijo de cinco años a su cargo y solo ha conseguido ser rechazado de todos los lugares donde se ofreció a trabajar.
🥰La historia de amor entre Helen y Kurt se desarrolla lentamente pero está repleta de escenas de sensualidad y pasión. NO ES UNA NOVELA ERÓTICA, porque también hay escenas que nos muestran que Helen y Kurt son dos sobrevivientes de una guerra muy cruel, que solo les ha dejado pérdida y dolor, que pertenecen a dos bandos opuestos pero se necesitan mutuamente y a lo largo de la novela tendrán que aprender a convivir con “el enemigo”.
🥰El amor no entiende de enemistades posguerra. Helen es sureña y ha quedado viuda y se encuentra sola para sacar adelante su devastada granja pero no puede con ella y corre el riesgo de perderla. Necesita ayuda, pero hasta no recoger la cosecha no puede darse el lujo de contratar un empleado. Su marido marchó hace años a la guerra y nunca regresó y aunque es consciente de que está muerto, ella no lo puede aceptar. Llegado el momento de reconocerlo… Es muy fuerte la escena.
🥰Helen odia a los del Norte, y Kurt es de dicho bando. Fue capitán del ejército de la Unión. Su objetivo es llegar a Meryland donde posee unas tierras en las que poder establecerse pero no tiene dinero y está desesperado por encontrar un trabajo que le permita comer, tener un techo y llegar a su destino. Y el lugar indicado es la granja de Helen.
🥰Cuando Helen lo ve llegar a su granja su decisión inmediata es echarlo porque Kurt hace acto de presencia con un viejo uniforme del bando enemigo, pero al descubrir que tiene un niño, no puede negarse pese a todas las habladurías y rechazo que ella vivirá en carne propia por tener al enemigo en sus tierras. Ella, una traidora por acoger a Kurt y él sufre el desprecio (expresado en golpes) de la gente por haber luchado en el bando contrario. A ambos se les niega venderles mercadería. Me resultó muy dolorosa éstas escenas. Y acá es donde aparece Jolly quien es amigo y anciano vecino de Helen que perdió a sus hijos en la guerra pero será un protector para ella y para Kurt y muy especial para el pequeño Charlie que tiene traumas por la pérdida de su madre.
💯Recomendada para las que amamos éste tipo de novela romántica de los ochenta. Este libro se publicó en el desaparecido sello Cisne en el año 1997.
🥰Helen es testaruda pero está herida por las circunstancias y él… ¡Él mamita querida!🫠es la tentación en persona. Las descripciones que hace la autora cuando Kurt labra la tierra desnudo de cintura para arriba es…🫠
Pero más allá de eso,Kurt es un gran trabajador, lo demuestra dejando el sudor en la granja y quiere poder ganarse no sólo el corazón de su hijo que no lo recuerda, sino el de Helen.
Por último decir que la narración es hermosa. Yo había “leído” el nombre de la autora pero éste libro yo NO lo conocía. GRACIAS a la chica que me lo recomendó. Es una novela que quedará en mi memoria al estilo “Shanna” de K. Woodiwis.

I enjoyed this story of love and loss and then love again. However, it took Helen and Kurt an awful long time to get to the love!! That is my only complaint. The relationships Nan Ryan developed in this story are well done and the characters came alive for me. I'm not real big on historical romance but did enjoy this read, even with the length of time it took the two to get together. Hurricanes! They can be magical.

En realidad 4,5. La historia es preciosa y llena de ternura, con unos secundarios entrañables. Lo que pasa es que faltó un equilibrio entre los diálogos y la introspección, esto hizo que la lectura, en ocasiones, se tornara pesada. Sin embargo, en los últimos capítulos hay situaciones tan conmovederas, que hacen de esta novela una más para atesorar.

Siento que hace mucho no leía un historia tan linda y con sentimientos me encanta como se van dando las cosas entre los protagonistas al igual que la amistad de charlie y el viejo disfruto mucho de este tipo de lecturas para mi una confortable ✨

How many times can someone read the word yankee and not hear a slur ? I don’t know but this book had too many. War is terrible and people fighting for things they don’t believe in just to keep their land together… I don’t fault the FMC for being upset but it felt too dragged on and even if she stayed that way there was no reason to blame the MMC. He was strong, hardworking and honest man who cared about his young son and had also lost his wife. Trying his best to always be a gentlemen but her attitude annoyed me. You could call this slow burn and I enjoyed the scenes they had here and there. But they felt shallow together with nothing making me sigh or feel amazing. The drama with the town was expected pretty predictable that it seemed to wrap up quickly to serve a turn in their relationship.

2.5 estrellas. Ni fu ni fa con este libro. Es súper predecible y ñoño. Los términos cariñosos se sienten súper forzados y el desenlace es muy meh. Lo mejor del libro fue Jolly y Charlie, porque la historia de amor es super sosa. Es prácticamente instalove.

El inicio fue muy bueno, como se iban conociendo Helen y Kurt, junto al acercamiento que poco a poco se producía con el hijo de kurt con los demás personajes me pareció muy conmovedor; sin embargo siento el final muy apresurado, por eso le bajé una estrella.

Down on her luck War Widow needs help to run her farm and the only person willing or able to help is a union soilder despised by the whole town. Heard that plot before I'm sure. But this is actually a very refreshing take. And the love scenes are sooo long and worth the very slow burn wait.

4 1/2 stars. Nan Ryan is one of my favorite authors. Her writing style pulls you in to where you just can't put the story down until you finish it.

this was a typical sweet, historical romance. the story was very endearing and a good read. Really liked the ending.
