'A gothic fantasy for those who love MYTHIC femininity, NATURE as sentient, their hearts affectionate but Feral. If you love your WHIMSY served with a slice of DARKNESS, this one is for you.' Morwin is the last Keeper of the Grove, marked as a traitor and hunted by the empire she once protected. When a devastating Red Plague begins to spread, she leaves her sacred post and enters the wild wetlands of the Fens, searching for allies before the world unravels.
Instead, she finds suspicion, hostility—and Jonathan. A battle-hardened warrior with a disgraced past, Jonathan has no patience for outsiders or the danger that usually follows them. Yet when Morwin’s warning is dismissed and imperial forces close in, he becomes her reluctant guide and only chance of survival.
Their journey leads them through wyvern-haunted forests, lands where the dead whisper, and a forbidden garden where time fractures and desire blurs when inhibitions are lowered and obligations forgotten. As the plague worsens and mercenaries hunt Morwin for the traitor’s mark burned into her skin, attraction ignites between them—slow, volatile, and impossible to ignore.
But magic always exacts a price.
To claim the cure, Morwin must risk her identity, her memories, and the fragile bond growing between them. And when time betrays them both, they are forced to choose between love and loyalty, survival and sacrifice, paradise and duty—before ancient powers awaken and everything they fought for is lost.
THE TWISTS IN WILLOW is a dark fantasy/romantasy of cursed magic, forbidden devotion, and slow-burn passion—perfect for readers who crave lyrical worlds, dangerous love, and heroines who bleed for the future they dare to hope for.
From the characters and the style of writing, all the way to the setting and plot. This book was the most perfect amount of 'whimsy'. It transported me right to the beautiful locations in the heart of nature herself. I touched the flowers, the water and the textiles. I smelled the scent of the campfire and the river.
The magic in this story is so well thought-out and connected to folklore. The main female character is so strong that you almost feel the power yourself, just by following her story.
Another thing that stole my heart is the dynamic between the FMC and MMC. I adored their humour and bickering! My heart was singing and dancing when I got to the 'healing water' scene! I'm so excited to see what adventure and challenge Morwin and Jonathan journey on next!
There’s a difference between love stories and romance, and this book is undoubtedly a love story. Is there romance? Yes. Beautiful, slow burn, actual falling in love romance (no insta love here). But there’s more than that. A mother’s love for her children. Love for their people. Love for their land. Friendship. Found family.
Quest and epic journey. Magic expertly woven into realism. Flawed characters that have depth and pasts. A FMC that is not 19 years old and somehow good at everything. A MMC that is actually a good man with a life lived and not a 500 year old that somehow hasn’t found love until now. (No shade, I love those books too) and a third person narrative which is my personal favorite ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I was surprised by the moments that actually brought me tears, I don’t typically cry when reading. Moments that made me laugh out loud, the banter between Jonathan and Morwin was *chefs kiss* and watching them slowly fall in love is just so intriguing. The book unfolded with so many layers and I am so excited to see where the story goes next. But ultimately I’m coming back because I love Jonathan and Morwin so much and can’t wait to be there when they finally realize that they love each other too 🫶 (and to see what 90s slang Jess teaches them next)
