The violent sea threw them together only to tear them apart yet again... Out of a band of violent men, shipwreckers all, came Marianna Harper - a girl so unkempt that her budding beauty barely showed. In the deep fog of the night, she salvaged a delicate prize from the sea - Phillip Courtwright. The most beautiful man she had ever seen. Together they loved and to protect their love — and lives — they killed.
Then, at Marianna’s most desperate moment, into her life strode a new man, Captain Adam Street. As mighty as the ships he commanded, as passionate as Phillip was tender, as forceful as the love he gave - a man who swept Marianna up into the tides of love.
Patricia Anne Klein Ernst was born on 1 July 1927 in San Fernando, California, USA, the daughter of Gladys Gable and Roy Oliver Ernst. In 21 December 1946, she married Marvin Owen Brisco and moved to Arizona, they had two sons: Michael Arvie and David Roy. By 1961, the marriage had ended in divorce. Focused on her writing career, she returned to California, where she met the writer Clayton Matthews in a local writers' group. When the market for gothic novels softened, at the suggestion of the Clayton's agent, Jay Garon, she began to write romance novels under her second married name, Patricia Matthews in 1976. Her husband Clayton died in 25 March 2004. Patricia Anne Brisco Matthews died at 5:30 a.m. 7 December 2006 in the familiar house of Brisco in Arizona.
Usually I'm not a fan of the "heroine" being "passed around" or giving her "favors" so freely. Thus..this would have landed on my "pass-around-polly" Shelf. I actually liked "Tides Of Love" The heroine was resourceful, no wimpy complaining gal here, she accepted her lot in life but eagerly took on any new change or challenge...even with the men she spent time with, which also was done tastefully...except for the first jerk. The writing style and "conversations" between the characters were certainly of the time it was printed, but hey..I still got into it. Fast paced, historically detailed enough, and all likeable characters...except for the first jerk. This is the first "oldie" by Patricia Matthews I have read and I will be checking out more of hers in the future.
I remember reading this book in my late teens and loving it. I bought it as a hardback and read it in the early 80s. I can't remember the character's names, but I remember the story clearly. Very good romantic novel.
Oh, I just remembered something else. Alan Parson's Project had a song called 'Time' that came out about the same time. I used to play this while I read the book. The lyrics were very appropriate with the book I think.
I found this in a box of my mom's old books. I don't really read romances anymore, but this line on the back convinced me to give it a try:
"Together they loved and to protect their love—and lives—they killed."
So I was like, "Whaaaat? The heroine goes on a killing spree in this book? Hell. Yes." Unfortunately, that's not what happened. This is about as predictable as any other romance. It's too boring for me. I don't need to finish it.
I Love ALL of Patricia Matthews Books. All her Historical Romance books From Late 1970s to 1980s . Her " Loves " series Is The best. Should Be Made Into Movies. Her Book Love Forever More was My First book I read by her and Was Instantly Hooked. That was My First Romance Book I ever read to 📚📚📖.
This book was pretty good, but I think it could have easily been better. I did not feel the romance for any of the men, or feel any true feelings for the girl.
