Take Good Notes — a raw and emotional true story about a mother’s relentless fight to tell the truth about her son’s imprisonment. When her son is accused of being a murderer, aggressor, and abuser by the prosecutor, a mother’s world shatters. In reality, it was the ex-girlfriend who had been the aggressor and abuser.
The justice system, quick to believe the loudest voice, ignores the evidence and silences the truth. Refusing to stay quiet, she becomes an advocate, investigator, and voice not only for her child, but for every parent who has watched the system fail someone they love.
Take Good Notes is part memoir, part call for justice, and a powerful and heart-wrenching journey through betrayal, bias, and the fierce resilience of a mother’s love. It also challenges the assumption that only women can be victims of abuse, exposing how truth can be distorted and how far a mother will go to reclaim it. Told through court records, personal journal entries, and raw emotional reflection, this story sheds light on how abuse can dismantle a family and how the justice system often gets it wrong.
Excellent prose makes it hard to put down. Finished it within 2 evenings.
There are always 3 sides to a story ... his, hers, and the truth. Many valuable lessons in this book - read it, have your teens read it, and take me talk health and domestic abuse signs seriously.
I devoured this memoir -- for a new author, it was really well written and an easy fast paced read.
I commend the author for her bravery to tell her story and the story of her son. She certainly persevered and overcame circumstances that would cause most people to crumble. It was heartbreaking to read the raw emotion and the cycles of domestic violence that have been present in some shape or form in her life and how it unfortunately continued generationally despite all her desires and protective mechanisms she tried to put up to stop the cycles from repeating in her offspring.
Although she clearly loves her children and family to her very core, I do feel like she presented the facts that she had and did not diminish the flaws of either side or the tragedy that unfolded for not only her son but also the young lady who sadly lost her life.
Reading about the details of the case was infuriating and at times it really confused me as to how the lawyer could twist words to fit their agenda and it didn't get questioned or an opportunity presented for correction. It really makes one think about the dynamics of our judicial system.
