These are the rules that kept Isobel Ashthorne alive long before she ever set foot inside the pristine halls of Blackmoore Academy. A place where knives hide behind perfect smiles and nothing is quite as it seems.
Thrown into a world of wealth and opulence, Isobel, who’s more used to crumbling walls and neglect than lavish luxury, must find her way in a life she never could’ve dreamed of.
But soon it’s not just trauma from her past she’s trying to overcome but a darker game of power and secrets.
At Blackmoore Academy, the reigning four boys are determined to make one thing clear. She shouldn’t be here.
But as Isobel navigates their cruelty, alliances form and walls are broken down. A split-second decision changes everything. Lines distort, loyalty shifts, and enemies blur into something else. Now the danger is no longer just coming from them, but from the shadows closing in on all of them.
The monster she escaped from in her previous life isn’t finished hunting her.
A battle is coming.
There will be blood, but who will shed the most? And who will be the one to fall?
4.5 stars rounded up! I throughly enjoyed this book!
This dark academy story is packed with tension, secrets, shifting loyalties, and characters that kept surprising me. I loved watching Isobel grow into her strength while navigating a world where nothing…and no one, is quite what it seems.
The atmosphere at Blackmoore Academy is dark, addictive, and full of power games, emotional punches, and just enough spice to keep the pages turning.
If you love dark academia, morally gray characters, found family, and high emotional stakes, this one is absolutely worth the read.
Tropes / vibes readers can expect: - Dark academy - Bully romance tension - Found family - Slow burn romance - Morally gray characters - Secrets & power games - Strong FMC character growth
I’m already desperate for book two, don’t sleep on this book.
Forged in Blood is a dark academia, young-to-new adult romance with spice. Isobel has the roughest start to life. From pleasant memories as a child to being taken by her mom and thrown into a life of physical and sexual abuse, isobel just knows she has got to get out. Her friend at the beginning is amazing but as soon as isobels step dad rapes her, isobel is out of there and her friend is the first to offer her help. Isobel ends up at the hospital and that’s when they find her dad and isobel finds that she’s been a missing person for over a decade.
Her biological dad swoops in and starts answering all the questions isobel has as to basically, “what the heck happened?” One day she remembers a happy family and singing and dancing with her mom while her dad cooks them waffles and then she ends up in the home of a stranger, dad nowhere in sight and she’s violently abused almost daily while her mom watches.
Once her dad takes her in, she finds that he is the thieves guild head of command and there’s an entire academy that exists to train lethal thieves and recon experts. She also meets her new step sister, Dakota who doesn’t really take much part in the book.
Here she runs into the Blackmoore Four and they HATE her. She is interfering with preset plans of a takeover by a new family but now that isobel has been found, she is destined to take over the entire guild. These 4 do whatever they can to get her out of the way but somehow, one by one, they all start going feral over her. Even Jace, the evilest of them all has a change of heart. I would have loved a lot more character development here but all in all I loved the action and then how all of them seemed to claim isobel as theirs and they are her protectors. Like I said, could have been a little more substance in this sudden change of emotions from all 4 guys, but hey. It’s fun.
Lots of adventure and I can’t wait for the next book! Thank you, Kitt for allowing me to read this awesome book for my honest review!
First of all, big thanks to Kitt and her amazing, incredible team for the ARC opportunity. Forged in Blood is a page turning, slow burn, dark academia/contemporary romance. It has amazing characters and our FMC has an incredible arc. There are twists, moments of tension, banter, SPICY SPICE, action and secrets. This book really has it all! If you’re a fan of Fourth Wing (without the fantasy), Six of Crows & Kim Possible this one’s for you.
"They watched me break. Now they can watch me rise."
4.5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨
What an incredible debut! Thank you so much for the ARC (Please note the trigger warnings before you read!).
I absolutely devoured this and was hooked from page one. THIS WAS SO GOOD!! It's perfectly fast paced and the storyline is so gripping. Isobel's story contains so much resilience, healing, empowerment and growth. This is action packed with so many secrets sprawled across the pages. I do think her choices regarding the boys of the Blackmoore Four were a little questionable LOL, though you will love them all and how her bonds with each of them look so different. Her chemistry with Tex was everythinggg.
The ending was incredibly unexpected and DEVASTATED me. BRUH I AM SO UPSET AND HEARTBROKEN (I need book 2 immediately). Super excited to see the direction that this series will take :)
🚨🚨 slightly spoiler vibey thoughts here I didn't rate this 5 stars for a couple of reasons. As the head of the Guild and his status, I don't understand how Lucian was never able to find her daughter especially from a raging alcoholic of a guy who does not scream sneaky Guild energy at all? This was a bit spicier than I expected. I love the message of Isobel reclaiming herself and her confidence, but there was also in the sense that I think it took a little bit from the plot when it would have been nice to see some of that buffer in the plot be more moments of Isobel and her dad, as they barely exchange any conversations once she enters the academy. And what happened to Isobel's best friend, they just never talked after she left for the academy?! My brain cannot fathom how Isobel even wants to KISS Jace when he did her so UNFORGIVABLY dirty. This is the main plot point that I really CANNOT wrap my head around right now that it pisses me off. But it's also always the good reads that evoke all the feelings LOLLL
The beginning? It can go straight to hell. I completely understand why it was necessary… but EWW. It was gross. I suffered. Respectfully.
I went into this completely blind because I loved the cover and signed up on vibes alone. I had no idea what it was about. And somehow it wrecked me in the best way.
And listen, I do not like love triangles. I despise them. Avoid them. Side-eye them.
But this one? I ate it up.
This story is about watching a broken girl rise into a strong, powerful young woman. It’s secret societies, found family, inevitable heartbreak, and emotional whiplash in the best way.
I loved every second of this roller coaster. Even when it hurt. Especially when it hurt. 😭
First off, thank you to Kitt and her team for sending an ARC of this book!
I really enjoyed this book. It started out with some strong traumatic elements, with the DV, CA, and SA either witnessed by or happening to the FMC.
I think how Iz's father finds her is a bit unbelievable, considering he's part of this shadow organization and heads up a security firm. You'd think with those types of resources at his disposal, it would not have taken the hospital doing a DNA test on her to figure all of this out.
I also couldn't reconcile the stepdad from the beginning of the book with the main baddie, and an ex-communicated member of the guild. The description of him from the beginning of the story of the greasy, alcoholic who smells like sweat, beer, and cigarettes, with greasy hair that hangs down in his eyes. That doesn't scream 'former operative/guild member, deadly, with powerful connections' that could hide the most powerful man in that guild's daughter from her father.
I love a strong FMC and Iz is definitely that. To survive what she did with her fire still burning bright, then to go to Blackmoore to be bullied by Jace and his crew. But to continue to fight, to make sure she didn't just fade away and not let them break her spirit, I loved that in her.
The romance with Tex was also sweet, how they connected through their past traumas and how we, as readers, got to see another side of him when he was with her. I liked them together.
Ngl, I kinda thought this would end up as a why-choose, with the way the guys were all going after her in their own ways. But her choosing Tex was right for this part of the story. The ending took me by surprise and left me in tears. Now, I have to wait for the second book to find out what happens next...

Forged in Blood by Kitt Fiona is a spectacular debut novel that had be gasping at the twist and turns in this book and screaming about the ending. Kitt does a fabulous job of creating this breadcrumb trail for events that happen that you don’t realize the hints are there until the unexpected things happen. As soon as I think I see a vision of where this book is going then something throws a wrench in it and then I am questioning everything. My jaw hit the ground when I finished that book and realized I had to wait for book 2. Elements of this book I loved was the character the FMC was established and she quite the character development and growth before we even meet the MMCs. The occasionally POVs from the MMC is one of my favorite things in books for the depth it adds to story and their character development. Another part I loved about this book was the unknown about who the love interest will be and even wonder will it be mutiple or is this a love triangle situation! Forged in Blood is my favorite book I have read so far this year and I can not wait for more books by Kitt Fiona!

I absolutely LOVED this book. I stayed up late reading it the night ARCs were sent out, and I can say I regretted nothing. It was perfectly paced and every page had me HOOKED. There are so many twists and turns and unexpected moments; everything is just PERFECT. I love the FMC, Isobel, and I'm a huge fan of her story. Reading about her incredible journey was everything. Her strength and resilience, and determination is commendable, and I ADORE her. As for the other four? I love all of them equally as well as Isobel's dynamic with them. Seeing the way she connected with Tex, Jace, Luca, and Noah in different, unique ways was everything. THEN THE ENDING?! It absolutely destroyed me. I don't think I will EVER get over it. I definitely think Forged in Blood is one of the BEST books I've ever read. Thank you so much Kitt Fiona for providing me with an ARC to review. I'm impatiently waiting for book two 🥹🥹
I have no words. I’ve been in a reading slump lately and this book completely consumed me. Once I started I couldn’t put it down. I literally fell asleep reading it.
The beginning broke me. I was sobbing!!! But I think that made the story line even more powerful for her to come back from what the endured.
“They watched me break. Now they can watch me Rise.” GAVE ME GOOSEBUMPS!! Seriously, so much power in those words!!
The story line was so fun. I always love a good bully romance. And these boys delivered!!! I wasn’t sure how the story was going to play out if it would be a why choose or what. But damnnnnnnnn I loved it.
Isobel is fierce and loyal to those who deserve it. Slow to trust but that is expect with what she’s been through. The boyssssss THE BOYS!! Jace, I want him plain and simple no notes. Tex, so tough yet so soft too and the way him and Isobel bond over their shared experiences warmed my heart they definitely need each other. Noah, I loved him. So quiet but definitely don’t fuck with him. And Luca shameless flirt and who doesn’t love that!!
The secrets and betrayals in this book hit hard. But were necessary. The cliffhanger…im sobbing please don’t talk to me. I’m gonna need a few days to recover. I CANNOT wait for book 2!!!
Thank you! KITT FIONA for send me an e-arc Copy of book!
This book was amazing! At first, I struggled a little with the beginning because of something that happened, but once the story reached the boarding school section, everything became so much more engaging. From that point on, I was completely hooked.
One thing I really appreciated was the main character, Isobel. She never came across as annoying or frustrating, which I always value in a protagonist. Instead, she felt grounded and easy to root for.
The male characters were also very interesting. Jace definitely made some questionable choices throughout the story, and I won’t lie—there were moments where I wasn’t happy with him. Still, he added an interesting dynamic to the narrative. The other characters who stood out were his friends Tex, Luca, and Noah. Watching them all slowly become completely love-struck by Isobel was honestly very entertaining.
And that ending… it was absolutely brutal. I genuinely could not believe what happened. It was shocking to read. Now I’m incredibly curious to see how the rest of the characters will deal with the aftermath of such event.
first i need to congratulate kitt on releasing her debut book!!! i am seriously so happy for her and it was super hard to put this book down!!
i absolutely loved the setting of this book. it’s been forever since i read a dark academia book so i was really enjoying that aspect of the story. there are definitely some darker elements to this book so please make sure to check trigger warnings.
moving on from the setting i did like isobel. her character was through so much and she was so strong throughout this book. i was a little surprised with how fast she moved on from what happened to her at the beginning of the story. but everyone does cope differently and i think she was just trying to forget. i like how she wanted to overcome all her obstacles and come out stronger and on top.
when it comes to the 4 MMC i really loved tex. honestly i really had a hard time forgiving the other three for how they treated isobel at the beginning of the story. i think they crossed a line by putting those pictures up everywhere and im not sure how isobel forgave them. but tex was such a sweetie. i love how he wanted to be there for isobel and felt guilty for how she was treated when she first arrived.
usually i like the broody morally grey mmc but jace didn’t do it for me in this book. i’m really curious to see how he will be in book two and if he will redeem himself for me!
the ending of this book was CRAZY!!! i still can’t believe everything that happened at the ending. it did make me excited for the next book to see where all this goes!!
thank you so much kitt for the arc copy! i am so excited to follow along your author journey!!!
Nothing is better than going into a book completely blind and having it turn out to be amazing.
I went into Forged in Blood thinking it was fantasy… nope. It’s actually dark academia with a secret society, and I loved that surprise.
The FMC, Isobel, has had an absolutely horrific life (check your trigger warnings). When something happens that turns her world completely upside down, the story really takes off.
The found family in this book is incredible, the action is nonstop, and there’s plenty of female rage alongside some very hot side characters !
This book had me hooked from start to finish and kept me turning pages until the very end.
First, I want to thank Kitt and her team for sending me an ARC of this book! I had a really fun time reading it.
"Try to run, Isobel. I'll catch you. Every time. And you'll thank me when I do."
Forged In Blood is a page turner. Isobel does not run or hide. She faces everything that should break her. I really enjoyed the Blackmoore Four and the different personalities they possessed to shape Isobel's experience at the academy. There were definitely some gripping twists throughout the book that made me want to continue reading. Overall the book flowed well and moved quickly while also being able to provide just enough information for us to get to know the characters and plot.
SPOILERS below Some thoughts I did not quite understand - How Lucian has some of the best Intel but could not track his daughter - Honestly what the ringleader of Blackmoore Four did was unforgiveable but Isobel eventually still falls for him - What happened to Maeve?
I am excited to read the next book when it comes out. I really hope to see more of the boys POV because those chapters were really fun to read (although sparse). I would love to know what Jace is thinking more since he holds a lot of power from an opposing family.

A HUGE thank you to the author Kitt and her team for this amazing ARC opportunity!
Wow! What a great read! Forged in Blood kept me on my toes the entire time! Definitely check your trigger warnings before deciding to read this book.
The beginning is hard to read at times, but it feels so raw and so real and as the reader we really get to understand what Isobel’s life is like. Isobel is so resilient and I loved watching her come into her power. She’s one of my favorite FMC’s. It was also wonderful seeing such supportive women around her. From her best friend back home, to her step sister, and Savvy, she’s surrounded by supportive women and I love that!
It was fun watching her interactions with the Blackmoore 4. I enjoyed how each guy was different and how each of their relationships evolved. Tex had me swooning. I’m curious about Jace, interested to hear more about him. I really enjoyed the level of spice. That ending though… 💔 I have so many questions and I can’t wait to see where things go in the next book!
"You look great, like we survived the apocalypse. It's a vibe." 🧡 Love meave.
This book is not for the faint of heart and is brutal from the start, so please be mindful if choosing to read. However i do love the aithors take on the "SANE" nurse and the process was done nicely and informative in a laid back way, i can see this being beneficial if anyone unfortunately has to go through that process in the future.
I dont like how the book basically ghosted meave as i felt like she was such an important character. I also felt it ghosted dakota in a way. I get they may have interacted in the background but i felt like id wanted to see a little more of that even if it was just like "so and so walked in as i was saying by to meave on the phone" or simular.
Chapter 32 luca was so heartwarming 😭🥹💜
Her relationships with 2 in particular were messy and complicated in a way, but i do love how they all grew love for her, and im actually glad it wasn't why choose.
Also, why did you end it just like that, very savage of you, author?
Overall, i really enjoyed the secret society vibe of the book. I felt like i really got sucked into the story waiting to see what happens next, and i can't wait for the next.
I devoured this book. Thank you so much to the author for letting me have an ARC ebook copy. I honestly need book two after the way it ended because I need to know what happened ASAP. I love the FMC and the four MMC.I loved the relationship that she developed with each of the four MMC. I NEED MORE FROM THIS AUTHOR PLEASE.
I would like to thank the author for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own. just finished and I am not okay. This book is intense from the very first pages, raw, emotional, and unapologetic. Such a fun and emotional ride!!
It’s dark academia with a slow burn with some very spicy scenes for my tastes 🤭
That opening backstory for our FMC hits hard and immediately pulls you in. You feel everything with her.
The spice? Whew. A little over-intense for my usual taste… but also?? SO GOOD. No notes there 😮💨🔥
And then we get the Blackmoore Four, and listen, there is genuinely nothing I disliked about them. Each one has such a distinct personality, and somehow they all work.
Luca might be one of my favorites (don’t ask me to justify it, just READ IT and maybe tell me yours 😆), but honestly? They each bring something that makes you like them individually.
I do wish we’d seen more of the best friend, and the sister is still a bit… iffy for me. Maybe it’s just me, but I have trust issues with her 👀
This is easily a 4.75⭐ read for me. It felt like it was missing just one tiny thing, maybe a bigger climax? but THEN… the ending. THE. ENDING. 😥
I need book two. I need to continue this story. That’s how good this was.
Kitt does not disappoint. The quotes? The moments? The way Isobel comes back stronger, sharper, changed?
YES.
Absolute comeback energy. Trigger warnings are very real for this one, so please read with care.
And I still feel like we don’t have the full picture of Isobel’s past, especially her disappearance when she was younger, which makes me even more desperate for book two.
Four men chasing after the FMC 🥵 not usually my trope… but somehow this worked. And it worked well.
This is a dark academy romance that doesn’t pull its punches. Isobel’s past trauma is written with a rawness that genuinely hurts to read at times (the trigger warnings are there for a reason and should absolutely be taken seriously). Her drive to become stronger and never be powerless again is one of the most compelling parts of the story, and it’s easy to root for her resilience.
The mystery and power dynamics at Blackmoore Academy kept the tension high, and the story moves fast with constant emotional and plot twists. The reveal about her father was truly shocking; personally, I struggled with how quickly Isobel was able to process and accept that truth, but I can also see how it fits her survival-first mindset.
The romance elements are layered and theres no shortage of options. The male leads initially seem like classic cruel academy elites, but they show more depth and complexity as the story unfolds. Relationships shift in unexpected ways, which adds to the emotional pull.
That ending absolutely wrecked me. It's intense, emotional, and impossible to ignore. If you like dark, trauma-heavy academy romance with danger, secrets, and multiple love interests, this one will definitely leave a mark!
4⭐️ 1🌶️ (I believe it will ramp up in upcoming books)
I am numb, Kitt has broken my ❤️. Thank you to the author for giving me a digital copy to review, all opinions are my own. Isobel just wants to be invisible and get through school so she can leave her horrible home life behind and everything comes crashing down on her 18th birthday, but she also discovers some truths. Check your triggers as the beginning is a bit rough but to see Isobel’s ability to over come and show that it has made her strong makes it all worth it.
If you are a fan of: Found Family Bully Romance Enemies to Lovers Dark Academia Secret Societies
This is the book for you. The only reason it didn’t get 5⭐️ is because I feel like certain parts were rushed, but I still loved the story and cannot wait to continue this series as that ending devastated me.
I had such a fun time reading this book, I devoured it pretty much as soon as I received it. 🤭
The story was fast paced and easily had you wanting to flip the page and find out what happens next.
The narrative style is first person (my favorite). You get to be in Isobel’s head and go through everything good and bad with her. What a wild fun ride of character development. Be prepared to get emotionally attached to all of the characters and emotionally wrecked. 😩
I cannot wait for second book to be released !
Thank you so much Kitt Fiona for allowing me to be apart of the team and providing a ARC copy to share an honest review 🖤
Wow, I was pleasantly surprised and utterly ruined reading Forged in Blood. The ending was unexpected and heartwrenching. For a debut novel she hit so many of my favorite tropes. If you're a fan of -secret society's -dark academia -slow burn to delicious spice -strong FMC -bully romance -overcoming trauma then you'll love this book. I'd recommend you check the books trigger warnings beforehand as the book dives right into some traumatic events.
I gave 4 stars (closer to 3.5 IMO) because in the early chapters the writing style comes off as a bit inexperienced, some of the transitions in character growth feel a bit forced and fast. Some of the main characters fall off with no explanation and you definitely feel the void of them. However, she definitely found her stride in writing style and it felt a lot smoother for the remainder of the book.
Overall it was such a fun read. Read in under 24 hours. I can't wait to read the next book!!
I went into this book completely blind and ended up being really pleasantly surprised. First things first: definitely check the trigger warnings before starting. The story opens in a way that immediately pulls at your heartstrings, and then it can turn horrifying the very next moment. The emotional whiplash is honestly part of what made it so good. I was hooked the entire time.
There’s a great mix of mystery, action, and suspense, plus a lot of moments that caught me off guard in the best way. It kept me wanting to read just one more chapter the whole way through.
And the ending… wow. Absolutely heartbreaking and a total cliffhanger. Now I’m sitting here needing the next book immediately because I have to know what happens next.
First off, a huge thank you to Kitt and her team for the opportunity to read and review this book. Secondly… Kitt, you absolutely broke my heart. I am not okay. 😭😭 What an incredible debut, I would give this six stars if I could.
Please, please check the trigger warnings before going in. This story does not hold back.
I was already full-on sobbing within the first 100 pages. The emotional weight hits early and keeps coming. I really loved the FMC, Isobel. She’s been through so much, and watching her try to survive, heal, and push forward was heartbreaking and powerful. I do wish we’d gotten more time with the best friend - I wanted more of that connection, but it didn’t take away from how invested I was.
This book keeps you on edge the entire time. You truly never know what’s coming next. The characters? The boys especially. Some you’ll love fiercely… and some you’ll absolutely hate (with your whole chest).
Dark, emotional, devastating, and unforgettable - Forged in Blood left me shattered in the best way. If you’re ready for pain, depth, and an intense ride, this one is absolutely worth it.
The way I sobbed! I went into this book all in on the tropes but the biggest warning not given? The way this emotional took me and destroyed me! This book was everything beautiful and tragic and the only thing I could say in the end is that Isobel is the strongest bad ass I’ve ever met and I cannot wait to read the next book! Do not pass up the opportunity to grab this book and devour it!
What is with me and reading books that tear my heart out? That's two in a row. THIS book had everything and more. Not only were there 4 delectable men that start out as bullies and progress into perfection, but it's a big game of whose it gonna be and I absolutely LOVE THAT. Even though it feels like torture. Just like the end. Torture.
I had the chance to read Forged in Blood as an ARC, and I’m already counting down the days until book two.
This book absolutely delivers on the dark academia atmosphere while weaving in secret societies, espionage elements, and a very intense bully romance dynamic. The world felt layered and intriguing right from the start - mysterious academies, power struggles, hidden motives… all the things I personally love in this genre!
That said, I do want to start with a quick heads-up: the opening of this book is emotionally rough. Iz has been through a lot before the story even really begins, and the early chapters reflect that. If you’re sensitive to darker themes or bullying dynamics, definitely check the trigger warnings before diving in. It’s very much a bully romance, and the tension between characters is immediate and intense.
Iz as a main character really carried this story for me. She’s dealing with so much and still manages to push forward, which made it very easy to root for her the entire time. Honestly, if anyone deserves happiness (and maybe several very protective men), it’s this girl.
I also loved the way the romance dynamics unfolded throughout the book. The relationships developed slowly and differently with each MMC, which is something you usually see more often in why-choose romances, so it was really fun to see that dynamic present here. We get to experience a range of personalities and chemistry styles - the nerdy one, the flirty one, the soft-but-silent (violent?) one, and of course the man who clearly invented the need for redemption arcs. Seeing all of those dynamics alongside a serious slow burn was so satisfying. Even though the spice level sits around a 3/5, the tension and relationship development absolutely carried the romance for me.
Which brings me to my one complaint - and I say this only /half/ joking.
This book has very strong why-choose energy… but as far as we know, it’s not actually a why-choose romance.
And I was personally offended by that fact.
The dynamic between the male characters and Iz gave me major Ruthless Boys of the Zodiac vibes at times, and I kept thinking, “Yes. This is it. This is where the why-choose reveal happens.” But alas… it did not. A girl can dream.
Another thing that took me a moment to adjust to was the setting. Technically the characters are college-aged, but the academy environment sometimes reads more like a high school structure. Once I let go of trying to fully reconcile that and just accepted the story for what it was, it didn’t bother me nearly as much. Dark academia often lives in its own little pocket of reality anyway.
What I really loved was how the author blended darker romance elements with the secret society plot. I’m not typically someone who gravitates toward spy or military-adjacent storylines, but tying that into a hidden society within the academy made it feel much more compelling and mysterious.
By the end, I was completely invested in the characters and the bigger story that’s clearly unfolding. This book sets up the second installment in the duet perfectly, and I absolutely need to know what happens next.
If you enjoy dark academia settings, bully romance tension, secret societies, morally gray characters, and a story that keeps you guessing about everyone’s motives, this one is definitely worth picking up.
Now I just need book two… preferably with at least a little more why-choose energy.
First I would love to say thank you to Kitt Fiona for this eARC, it has been quite an adventure!! 🖤
From the beginning of this book the emotional stakes are high! Kitt Fiona really had no business making the opening chapters so deep, and gut wrenching but it is a necessity because they perfectly set the scene for this story that is born out of tragedy and built on quiet strength!
This story follows Isobel our FMC after being rescued from an abusive home at 18, and she is finally given the opportunity to change her life for the better with her new family who just happens to have connections to an elite school with a secret society. Talk about laying the ground work for such an incredibly raw and strong FMC!
Isobel quickly learns not everything is as it seems and truly comes in to herself by overcoming challenge after challenge presented to her in a dark academia setting. And what would a good story be without a love interest or a few, a new found family, and a crazy cliffhanger ending.
If you are a fan of Zodiac Academy, Six of Crows, Blood of Hercules you will love this one!
Tropes ✨Found family 🥀Enemies to lovers 😈Bully romance 🏰Dark academia 💪🏻Survivor MC 🥷Secret society
This book didn’t just tell a story... it made me live it. The author writes in a way that completely immerses you in every moment. I didn’t just see what was happening... I felt it. The grit, the rawness, & the emotional weight of everything unfolding made it feel less like reading and more like experiencing Isabel’s journey firsthand.
Set within a high profile school hiding a dangerous secret society, Isabel becomes part of a group tasked with covert spy work, balancing intense training, deadly missions, college life, & the emotional toll that comes with all of it. The stakes constantly feel real, & the tension never lets up.
You become deeply invested in Isabel’s life & her wellbeing, constantly rooting for her to survive, to heal, and to prevail.
The relationship dynamics were so compelling. Isabel works closely alongside several very different men within the society, all navigating dangerous missions & life together while forming powerful, layered connections along the way. Every interaction felt intentional, & I was completely emotionally invested in each dynamic as it unfolded.
And that ending… I am absolutely devastated! I need book two immediately... like yesterday! I’m honestly blown away that this is a debut novel. The emotion, depth, action, & intensity all come together perfectly to create a truly unforgettable story.
This was an easy 5-star read for me... I devoured it in a single day & could not put it down.
This book had me emotionally invested from the first couple of chapters, and I couldn't put it down after that. Isobel's development from page 1 to the end of the book is phenomenal. And don't get me started on the Blackmoore four... wow. This book really ripped my heart out and stitched me back together, just to do it all again. I cannot wait for the second book!
Thank you to Kitt and the team for the opportunity to read this arc!
Forged in Blood: A Dark Academia Romance pulls no punches and will leave you screaming "No!" Check your triggers, for real.
Our main character, Isobel, grows up with a junkie mom and an abusive step-dad. She starts out as a shrinking person always trying to hide and avoid trouble, but trouble still finds her. When one particularly bad situation lands her in the hospital, she is faced with a choice to start over. But she's done being small and being the victim, and we get to experience her growth in physical and mental strength. She takes back her power, and becomes a badass in a secret organization hidden in a boarding school.
Enter the MMCs... um.. 4 of them plus one more? Please explain to me how 5 guys find themselves rabidly tripping over themselves over this one girl? Suddenly a girl who never had a boyfriend finds herself choosing between a buffet. But I'm getting ahead of myself. First, these are her enemies. The ringleader of the Blackmoore Four boy clique wants her out, because she threatens everything he's worked for his entire life by just showing up out of the blue and being the heiress to this guild. The bullying in this book is rough but fighting alongside each other turns enemies into allies and then into more. When she starts "talking to" this one guy who is nice to her, the 4 boys won't have it. I liked most of the boys, especially the nerdy tech guy - he'd be my pick. But that's neither here nor there. They're each unique in their personalities, sweet and nerdy, possessive, flirty to infinity, and protective. I guess you have to kiss all the boys to find who makes your insides melt. And get advice like this:
"My advice is to pick the one that listens, who knows what you need without you ever needing to ask."
The story is told from Isobel's POV with just a couple of POV switches for the boys. That part felt kind of out of place and maybe would have been better if it was more evenly split with POV switches, or none at all. But with extra POV we would have been able to experience more character growth for the boys. One of them especially went through a transformation and I would have enjoyed a chance to see it from his eyes. But we do get some good quotes:
"But the more time I spent around you, I started seeing the cracks in my father's words. You weren't some stuck-up bitch, who thought she was owed the world, you weren't some broken girl we could easily manipulate. Everything we threw at you, you took it and kept getting back up."
There's training sequences, flight club, dangerous missions, and spicy times. Then there's the ending. We're left kicked off a cliff in the middle of a mission gone haywire and, as previously stated, I am left screaming "NOOOOOOO" and unwell. Miss Ma'am when is book 2? I need to know how they defeat this terrible terrible man. And ultimately will she choose the most chillingly dangerous guy of them all?
I'll leave you with my favorite banter quote ;)
"You do kind of have resting murder face."
