Night Train

Rate this book
Night Train is a collection of short horror stories about moments when the familiar quietly turns wrong—and there’s no way to step off before it’s too late.

These stories live in the spaces between certainty and late-night journeys, altered memories, places that don’t behave the way they should. Blending psychological unease with dark, surreal elements, Night Train is horror meant to linger. The kind that follows you into quiet rooms. The kind that listens when you’re alone.

Once the journey begins, you may not return unchanged.

What started off as a great premise turned into a "full of clichés" book.
This is a short horror stories collection, and it honestly felt like reading the plot of many famous horror films.

I absolutely adored the introduction, it felt so right, so relatable, and it really did its job as an introduction as it really made me want to dwelve into it.
Unfortunately, I only really liked the first story, which was the less cliché one.

The other stories were full of horror films clichés and references (idk if this was planned, but it was super annoying) and also had lots of repetitions... the dialogues weren't creative either.

I honestly don't know what the author tried to do with these stories. If he purposefully made the stories extra cliché and implanted tons of horror films references on purpose but that really annoyed me.

Besides, I thought that some of the stories were quite predictable. However, I must say that this "eerie", "unsettling" feeling remained present in almost every story, and that the suspense was most of the time well handled. (And some did give me the creeps)

Here's the following rating for each story:
Project: forgetwell ⭐️5
Nightwing: ⭐️3,5
Steel in the fog: ⭐️3
Apollo 11: ⭐️3
The straw man: ⭐️2
Whispers in the wolves: ⭐️0

P.S: i hate it when authors include a preview of their next book at the end, ugh
and thank god i didn't buy a physical copy of it 🙄

Excellent horror short stories!

This reminded me of the stories I used to read in Masters of Horror anthologies 20+ years ago. Engaging and original story plots and characters. It was a fun read!

Fantastic writing! Reminiscent of Black Mirror. The first story reminded me of Westwood. Creepy, dystopian, thrilling! We NEED more! Looking forward to devouring everything Stephen Poe releases!

I really enjoyed this!! It was gory and spooky and just generally had a sense of unease and eerieness that persisted throughout all the stories. I especially liked the one with the birds and the last story, they certainly got under my skin. There wasn't really a single story that I didn't enjoy. Sure, some felt a bit weaker than others but overall a really good collection! 4.5/5 ⭐️
