The Galamere Chronicles #5
Once Upon A Bear
An illegal herbwitch, a man turned bear, and the curse keeping them apart.
Guinevere has spent years hiding her illegal magic, healing on the sly with enhanced salves and tonics. Life in her tiny cottage making potions by firelight is quiet and lonely, but it keeps her safe…even if it’s hard to buy food sometimes.
Gideon Rendon is tired of being a bear, but with silence woven into his curse and anyone who sees him trying to kill him, he’s run out of hope. When Guinevere discovers his secret, he begins to feel hope for the first time in years–but the curse is taking over, and he’s spending more and more time as a bear.
As Guinevere stitches his wounds, helps with his brother’s injury, and attempts to break his curse before he loses his humanity, the line between healer and patient begins to blur. But with Gideon’s noble family and Guinevere’s dangerous secret between them, falling in love might be a risk neither of them can afford.
Once Upon A Bear is a cozy fantasy romance inspired by the Goldilocks fairy tale, full of grumpy sunshine vibes and wound tending, and the fifth book in the Galamere Chronicles. Each standalone, young adult romance is a clean and wholesome retelling of a beloved story or fairytale, with the swoon-worthy sweet romance of a Hallmark movie, the wholesome and heartwarming feeling of cozy fantasy, and the comfort of a found family of friends, with a sprinkling of danger and a dash of magic.
While Once Upon A Bear is the fifth book in the Galamere Chronicles series, each couple has their own romance with a happily ever after that can be read in any order.
“You are always fit for human company,” she said. “Because whether you are in your human form or not, you have a human soul, and that is what matters.”

This turned out pretty cute! I was nervous about this book—despite enjoying all the previous books of the series—because of Guinevere being called a “herbwitch” on the backcover. I’ve commented about it before on other books, but I don’t like anything that has to do with “witches”. In this context, it’s just a magic user that can heal others with plants and magic, so it’s kept very light-hearted (which I greatly appreciated!). Though, I still would have preferred the word “witch” not to be anywhere in the book as I nearly passed on this book because of it. She’s only referred to a “herbwitch” thrice so I was glad it wasn’t harped on. She does create potions with her magic, but as a healer, she only uses them to help (or potentially help others). Because of this, I was okay with how the magic element worked in this book.
I wouldn’t say this was a full Goldilocks and the Three Bears retelling as it didn’t really follow that story, but there were a enough nods to the original tale that made me laugh, so I can’t complain. The humor, puns, and nods were just right. 😉 Overall, it was pretty cute and I liked the main characters. 💛
Main Content-
Religious-
Guinevere thanks the Lord for someone.
A couple mentions of praying (not said towards Whom); A mention of a miracle (referring to a pregnancy).
Magic-
Guinevere is called a “herbwitch” (x3) which means she can “brew potions and speak to animals”; Guinevere received her magical ability from her father’s side, but wasn’t fully trained in it so it takes her a few tries to get a potion correct; Because of having magic, Guinevere is able to understand what animals say; Guinevere makes potions for Gideon to try to break his curse (it’s said that she infuses her magic in an herbal potion); When Guinevere uses her magic to heal others, it makes her tired.
Being a magic user and using magic is illegal in this world, so Guinevere hides her ability and was raised with the worry about one day being caught; Some do not believe magic is real, but even if it was, it is illegal.
Gideon and some of the previous male leads in this series have been cursed to turn into an animal and/or be under a silencing spell where they cannot talk about the curse; A sorcerer who used his powers to harm and curse is mentioned, but not shown; This sorcerer also stole dragon eggs and used their magic.
Because of the curse, Gideon turns into a bear randomly (it’s painful and his clothes shift back when he becomes a human again), feels the “bear inside of him” when he is a human, and notices that his curse is starting to affect him and his thoughts more; Guinevere tells Gideon that whether he is in his human form or not, he has a human soul; Gideon is concerned that one day he could stop transforming back into a human and be stuck as a bear forever.
Seeing a dragon & mentions of dragons.
All about & many mentions of curses, magic, potions, and trying to help others with magic; Mentions of magic being illegal and those trying to make it legal again; A couple mentions of being lucky.
Language, Grief, + Negative-
No language stronger than ‘screw-up’; Eye rolling & Sarcasm.
Pain, Injuries, Blood/Bleeding (up to a few sentences); Helping those injured, caught in a trap, in pain, & bleeding (up to a few sentences).
Guinevere has no family around her and has grief/longing about it (everyone has passed away, but she doesn’t know where her father is and has never met him).
Mentions of deaths of family members & grief; Mentions of injuries, pain, blood/bleeding, stitches, & someone being thrown off a horse; Mentions of possible arrests; Mentions of vomiting; Mentions of gossip & rumors; Mentions of bear traps & hunters; A few mentions of lies & lying; A mention of a kidnapping (Book 1).
Romance-
Staring at lips,
2 forehead kiss,
1 kiss lasting a sentence,
2 kisses lasting 2 sentences,
3 kisses lasting 3-4 sentences,
Wanting to kiss (up to a couple sentences).
The bonus epilogue has
2 kisses lasting a sentence &
1 kiss lasting 2-3 sentences.
Seeing couples kiss & signs that they were kissing previously (mussed hair and pink cheeks).
Touches, Embraces, Dancing, Hand Holding, Nearness, Smelling, & Noticing (up to a few sentences); Wanting to touch & embrace (up to a few sentences); Blushes.
Guinevere and Gideon do sleep in her house together one night, but he is in his bear form on the floor and she is in her bed (nothing happens between them); When Gideon transforms back into a human, his clothes remain.
Mentions of kisses & kissing (up to a couple sentences); Mentions of couples kissing, embracing, flirting, & blushes (up to a couple sentences); Mentions of jealousy, flirting, & blushes; Mentions of lovey-dovey couples.

ALC Review - Once upon a Bear by Gabrielle Landi.
A sweet and funny retelling of Goldilocks’ with a Cinderella feel. This was a great audiobook and easy to listen. The narrator was great and the story flowed well.
The story follows the herbwitch healer, Guinevere, on her mission to break the curse of the nobleman, Gideon Rendon who turns into a bear.
I was giggling at the potion’s side effects and what poor Gideon had to go through.
The story was full of puns and cute moments. A grumpy sunshine story with a heartfelt found family ending. This story is recommended to readers of all ages being a sweet and clean no spice romance.
I received this audiobook for free from the author and leaving my review voluntarily.

Another AMAZING addition to the Galamere Chronicles series! I was curious as to what Gideon's secret could have possibly been after reading all the previous books. It was already pretty obvious that he and Guinevere were going to be a couple, and I love how their relationship progresses throughout the book. The thing that I love about Gabrielle Landi's books is the close bond between the siblings, and this book definitely delivered that. I loved getting to see Gideon interacting (or trying to) interact with his siblings, and them being concerned and worried about him when he keeps disappearing. This book was also extremely hilarious and I loved all the bear puns and the potions. I do wish that we could have seen more of Guinevere's backstory, which wasn't really explained that much, but I think that it's okay. I was still able to like her and root for her throughout the story. One issue that I have with the book is that the ending and the reveal was kind of anticlimactic (but that could just be me, since I love dramatic reveals). Overall, this was a really great, sweet, and cozy read. I can't wait for Kellan's story!

4.5 lovely stars!
I adore Gabrielle Landi’s novels, and Once Upon A Bear is no exception!!! So sweet and swoony and cozy all woven into unique retellings of classic fairytales. The characters… my gracious, Guinevere and Gideon were positively adorable. And the fact that he calls her Sunshine!!! They had such fun banter, while also genuinely caring for each other. Also, their puns were so wonderfully cheesy and cute!!! Truly a wholesome, breezy, and sweet novel that feels like cuddling beneath a cozy blanket while sipping tea with honey 🥰🐝🍯
The only teensy thing I wish was that there was just a bit more overall. But honestly, I really enjoy and appreciate the breeziness of these books; perfect lighter reads that are still brimming with heartfelt and quietly powerful moments.
~Content~
Romance: Wholesome and clean! Non-descriptive kisses only and sweet romance between couples. NO spice, steam, and/or innuendo.
Violence: A bear is caught in a trap, a man is thrown from a horse, and painful transformation into a bear. Nothing is descriptive.
Other: Magic is present (nothing dark or evil), and it includes things like being cursed (off-page), Guinevere being a healer who uses magic to help heal others, using potions/tonics to break the curse, true love’s kiss, and magical animals (dragons).
Christian: Nothing is explicitly stated in this book/series, however there are Christian values present such as forgiveness, kindness, honesty, faithfulness, trust, and respect as well as no swearing and no spice.
~Final Thoughts~
Once Upon A Bear is an absolutely lovely book, and I highly recommend if you enjoy breezy, cozy, lighthearted, swoony, clean, unique, and wholesome retellings that have characters with quiet bravery, genuine friends, loving family relationships (found and biological), and tender moments. Also, the illustrations were stunning!!!
Thank you, Ms. Landi, for writing these sweet stories that are so full of heart!
Happy reading :)

Five stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Wow, wow, wow!! ✨🎉🎊
This book was an absolutely adorable story!!
Guinevere has lived as a hermit healer most of her life, and has always felt alone, but when Gideon comes into her life, everything changes and she finds family, joy, and true love! This book was perfect to just sit down and read with a cup of tea with plenty of honey in it, of course! 🍯
Gideon, who changes from bear to man without notice, finds himself in the healing hands of Guinevere who is determined to break his curse! And of course, as they spend lots of time together, love begins to bloom!
Their love story was perfect! 👌
If you are looking for a sweet, clean, no-spice story, then this book is perfect for you! Gabrielle Landi weaves a perfect story full of magic, and sweet romance!!

Once Upon a Bear was another sweet and cozy addition to this series! Don’t worry if you haven’t read any of the other books yet, this stands alone just fine. It’s my favorite book from Gabrielle Landi yet.
Guinevere and Gideon were wonderful characters. I loved the grumpy sunshine vibe between them. I liked seeing Guinevere grow in her confidence and skills. I really felt for Gideon with his curse. I was really hoping they’d find a cure for it.
This story was a really fun Goldilocks retelling. I don’t see that story retold often, so I loved that. It was fun seeing the callbacks to the original tale, but I also liked how unique it was too. If you’re a fan of sweet fairytale retellings, don’t hesitate to pick up a copy! You’ll love it!
I received a copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.

This was such a cute way to retell the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Instead of three bears, though, there was only one. And, Goldilocks was actually Guinevere the healer who always seemed to take three times before her potions were correct. These books are always so fun because they include characters that have been in past books giving the readers time to get to know them. We are able to get to know Gideon and Guinevere better in this story. I enjoyed the overall plot and especially the happily ever after.

Once Upon a Bear is a cozy Golidlocks retelling with romance, curses, and nobility!
I loved this book so, so much! I was incredibly sweet and cozy, and it brought me so much joy! This is my third book by Gabrielle Landi, and she is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors! She writes the coziest stories, but they are never boring. They keep me engaged throughout the course of the book, and I always root for the couples.
This book does take place in her Galamere Chronicles world. I have not read the first four books in this series (though I am planning to). I have read her A Taste of Tea and Tenderness book, which takes place in the same town but isn’t directly a part of the series. I did love seeing a little more of Linnea and getting small updates on her relationship with Conrad. This book did mention the other couples from the previous books and set up the next book nicely. It was a little confusing, but it didn’t take away from the story. You could read this book without reading the others and it will be fine, but I think it would be even better by reading the others.
As I’ve mentioned above, this world is incredibly cozy. It has been described at Hallmark-esque, and as an avid Hallmark watcher, I wholeheartedly agree. This gives complete Hallmark vibes, but significantly less cheesy! The world is so sweet, and I love all the well-meaning characters and how much they care for one another. It is very refreshing. There is a little bit of magic in this book, and it is also very cozy!
The curse in this book is really interesting, and I love how the author wrote it. It really reminded me of Disney’s Brave. The author did a really good job of showing how the curse affected Gideon both mentally and emotionally. You could see the effect this had on his thoughts and his relationship with his family, which made me empathize with him. I don’t read too many Goldilocks retellings either, and I like how Landi incorporated the bear through this curse. I also love the small moments of the characters finding “just right.”
Guinevere was such a sweet, loving character! I loved her bubbly personality so much. She also had magic, which was illegal in this world, and it caused her a lot of stress and anxiety. She also had a sadder backstory, which was shared quite a bit through the course of this book, though I do think a little more will be revealed in the other books. She had a nice balance between being anxious and happy, and I loved this representation. She felt very real but was also just a really nice character!
Gideon was also a lovely character! He started off being a little grumpy, but quickly grew into a loveable, albeit a little awkward, character. He was very sweet with Guinevere, and I love how much he cared for her. He was also very responsible and cared about completing his family duties, which I really liked.
The romance between Guinevere and Gideon was so sweet and I absolutely loved them together! They switched being grumpy x sunshine in the middle of the book, which I really liked. They were so protective of each other and drew out the best in the other. It was so sweet, and I rooted for them throughout the course of the book!
The other characters in this book, and the world in general, were so sweet, kind, and caring. I loved all the side characters, and how they supported the main characters in their own way. I can’t wait to read the other books in this series!

A very special thank you to Gabrielle Landi for trusting me with another one of your stories and for choosing me as an ARC reader for the second time. 🥹🤎
It genuinely means so much to be trusted with your work before it reaches readers, and it’s such a joy getting to return to the Galamere Chronicles world. Thank you for letting me be a small part of this journey again. ✨
Here’s to many more magical stories, cozy fairytales, and hopefully many more ARC adventures! 🐻📚🤎
Once Upon a Bear was such a sweet, cozy, and whimsical addition to the Galamere Chronicles! 🐻✨
I was so curious about Gideon after the previous books, especially with all the mystery surrounding him, and I loved finally getting his story. His relationship with Guinevere was absolutely adorable. Their banter, the ridiculously cheesy bear puns, and Gideon calling her “Sunshine” had me smiling so much. 🥹💛
One of my favorite things about this series is the sibling relationships, and this book delivered on that once again. I loved watching Gideon try to interact with his siblings while they were genuinely worried about him and trying to understand why he kept disappearing. That family bond is honestly one of the sweetest parts of the series.
The whole book felt like a warm blanket, a cup of tea with honey, and a little bit of fairytale magic. 🍯🫖 The potions, magical creatures, curses, dragons, and beautiful illustrations made it such a charming read.
I do wish we had gotten more of Guinevere’s backstory, and I have to admit that the final reveal felt a little anticlimactic for me after all the build-up. But overall, this was such a wholesome, breezy, and heartwarming story.
If you love clean romance, fairytale retellings, cozy fantasy, wholesome relationships, found family, sibling bonds, magical creatures, and sweet banter, definitely add this one to your TBR!
And now… I need Kellan’s story. 👀🤎

Once Upon a Bear by Gabrielle Landi
The Galamere Chronicles #5
4.5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (rounded up to a 5)
Spice: 0.2/5
Cursing: none
Format/Source: audio from author
Genres/Tropes: cozy fantasy, romance, fairy tale retelling (Goldilocks), grumpy x sunshine, shifter
Audience: YA
Setting: Northlands
Characters: Guinevere, Gideon, Beatrice, Alexander, Callen, Caspian, Lillian, Mr & Mrs Rendon
👍 short chapters, multi POV, fairy tale retelling, no cursing, sweet, magical healing, shifter, seeing continuation of previous books, palate cleanser, fast-paced
👎 too many characters with poor self-esteem
Description:
My opinion:
I enjoyed this novel, especially the bear shifter and also the sweetness. Landi writes clean, cute, and quick romantasies that are a pleasure to read. I recommend this book to all who love wholesome romantasies.

This was cute little book inspired by the story of Goldilocks. I appreciated the sweet romance and the cozy fantasy vibe and I especially liked that the romance included no spice and kissing only. This was my first experience with this series, and maybe it would have helped me to have context of the others for the main part of my review. It is book 5, but works as a standalone. There were frequent appearances from other characters and couples who were the protagonists from other books.
However, as part of this, there was a tendency to under-describe the side characters. The author made it clear what the roles and connections were, but I had a better idea of names and relationships while the visual picture fell flat. For example, when a younger sister was introduced, she was only described by name, the description of 'baby sister,' and the thought that she was nearing adolescence.
Overall, the plot was decent while also being formulaic, and the problems the characters were faced with were solved relatively easily. My main issue with the book was how the romance was treated. It was sweet, yes, but it was rushed. And when certain plot points or revelations happened, there wasn't enough time spent for the moment to feel lived in and embodied - where the full impact and emotional weight came through.
Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read this book. I received an ARC copy and this review is my honest opinion.

Another adorable addition to the Galamere Chronicles, Once Upon a Bear is a sweet grumpy-sunshine full of magic! I love returning to Galamere and reading Gideon and Guinevere’s story.
If you have read the other books in the series, then you have already met Gideon and Guinevere. I loved Guinevere in Once Upon a Cat, she was so fun! She has a vibrancy to her and I loved getting to see her magic in action. She was so hopeful and saw the best in things, even though she had times of doubt and insecurity. Gideon was a sweetheart who tried to hide his discouragement through pulling away. He was stuck under a curse and it was draining him in many ways. I loved how they connected. Guinevere was so genuine in her desire to help Gideon and I loved how he tried to care for her as well.
The story had a very cozy cottagecore vibe and I loved the magical element with Guinvevere’s magic. It was so cool to get to see more about magic in this world and to revisit so many old characters. Gideon’s family is the sweetest and I love their little village! There were so many cameos and I love seeing all the friendships that have developed over the series. I also am so excited to see the next book after reading this one! It set things up in such an intriguing way. This cozy romantasy has magic and romance, but only kisses.

September 18, 2026DNF ~42% (idk how far I actually am because it’s an alc so I’m estimating where I am in the full runtime based on chapters)
firstly I’ll just say 5/5 to the galamere chronicles covers, I think this series is SO PRETTY and SO CUTE to behold.
I know she writes novellas but Gabrielle Landi is just allergic to a slow burn romance and it actually kills me. like the pace at which her characters “fall” for each other is bonkers (and I use quotes because I’m like fall?? in love??? based on what? she wants to help you? her hair is the color of your favorite food? you want to be married and she’s a girl? LETS RAISE OUR STANDARDS AND SLOW DOWN.) I’m not saying there isn’t chemistry there, I’m just saying let’s walk before we run.
I was going to initially say guinevere is a menace, but as a goldilocks stand-in, that’s literally her job to burst into people’s homes unannounced and uninvited so I’m gonna let her have that one 😂 the “just right” and the threes were a bit corny but hey, if she’s doing a retelling I guess she has to prove it’s a retelling somehow. I do draw the line at the bear dad joke though.
anyways I just wanted to dnf because I’m not out here trying to roast this author and her sweet little stories just because (to me) they still need a polish. and I’m a glutton for punishment because the sixth book sounds good!! and I’ll probably give it a try despite myself!!!

This is a cute Goldilocks retelling and is part of the Galamere Chronicles series. While the book can be read as a standalone, the characters do crossover.
This is the first book that I've read in the series, and while I don't feel like the story of Gideon and Guinevere was affected by not knowing the other character's stories, I do want to go back and read the rest of the series to get a better understanding of the whole world.
This is a pretty quick read that pulls you right in. I loved how Guinevere was persistent and sunshiny - to the point that Gideon starts to give her nicknames. And once Guinevere got through Gideon's defenses, he became her biggest cheerleader.
I also loved that there were several times that I laughed out loud while reading - especially with the side effects of the potions.
The epilogue of the book gives us a hint into the next book, Once Upon a Goat, that features Kellan's story.
I received an advance copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Quotes:
"...perhaps she was someone worth believing in."
"You shouldn't feel like a failure for trying."
"You don't have to do something right the first time. It's okay to make mistakes and to try again."
"It's okay to be afraid, but it's not okay if you let the fear rule your life."
"Maybe love could find a way through all the obstacles."

What an amazing, sweet story!!
I fell in love with the world and characters from page one and was hooked.
From the setting to the magic system to the characters to the storyline, this book was such a good read.
The dynamic between the MCs was adorable. I couldn’t get enough of them. I adored the MMC's family dynamic and the way they were so accepting of the FMC.
The side characters or supporting characters were such fun as well. I love how the author connected the other stories and characters with this story.
It may technically be a standalone, but now I have to go back and read the rest of the stories in the Galamere Chronicles.
I loved the little nods to the original story that Once Upon a Bear is retelling. It connected it to its origins, without seeming repetitive. By this, I mean the retelling felt like an original story rather than a repetitive retelling like we often see.
I would definitely recommend this book, and the rest of the Galamere Chronicles for that matter.
I would like to thank the amazing author, Gabrielle Landi, for allowing me to be on her ARC team. This book was a delight to read.

This story was such a sweet and fun retelling of Goldilocks, and I really enjoyed it! I’d say the main theme was about not losing hope that things can get better, and you don’t have to suffer alone. Both main characters struggled with feeling lonely and trying to deal with their respective issues by themselves. One with a curse who forced themselves into isolation, and the other who is hiding their illegal abilities and is alone due to sad circumstances. Seeing them grow closer and help each other discover friendship and love was so heartwarming. There was quite a bit of banter and more bear puns than you might realize exist, and even some moments when I literally couldn’t stop smiling, and laughed out loud! If you are looking for a cute love story that will give you warm fuzzies and make your cheeks hurt from smiling, then I recommend this kisses-only, reimagined fairy tale. I also listened to the audiobook, and it’s wonderfully narrated!

Omg I woke up to find this little gem sitting in my inbox along with the choice to listen to it on audio! And right now I am loving that as an option for work!!! Ok where to start so I don’t give it all away??!!! From the beginning I was “hooked” I loved that the FMC Guinevere was a crafter and in fact I connected with her because it was sitting there listening to my best friend! The MMC Gideon was a stubborn grump who very quickly fell for his “sunflower / honey/Sunshine” so “Grumpy/Sunshine” is an understatement here. This book gives you all the comfy feels and if you have read any of the other parts of the series then you will quickly pick up on the other characters - I haven’t butttt it lead me to quickly adding them to my Spotify list so I can listen to the rest at work!
I loved this book and genuine these two found each other and cared for each other right away. Very quick read and it sure just makes you smile!

Yet another cozy read from Gabrielle Landi! When I feel stressed and overwhelmed and just need cozy vibes I always want to read something from this series. Grumpy and sunshine vibes all the way. I love how both main characters struggle with things I feel like everyone struggles with at some point in their lives. It’s nice to not feel alone even through the words of a book. I actually wanted this book to have more in it. Some parts felt a little vague, but again I always come away just feeling reset with Gabrielle’s books. I love the magic woven through this book. I would read this series in order. It contains characters from previous books and could get a little confusing with some of the references to other characters. Definitely a clean cozy read I would let younger kids read.
I received an ALC (advanced listening copy) of this book. All thoughts are my own. I wanted to thank the author for this opportunity to listen to this book.

I was hoping to enjoy this, but was surprised just how much I loved this book! Entertaining, silly, swoony, and nostalgic feeling! 👱♀️🐻🍯 I didn’t want it to end!
The romance in this is literally chefs kiss! 🤌🏻😘 The side characters are so enjoyable and don’t even get me started on all of the puns! I grew up with an older brother who is still FULL of puns & it always cracks me up. So, I am a sucker for some silly puns! 🤷🏼♀️🤪😂
If you like feeling happy, do yourself a favor and read this one!
I’m binging this entire series soon now! ☀️🌼✨😁
I’m also so happy to see that the narrator is the same for the whole series, because she’s now a new favorite narrator too! Highly recommend!
- Grumpy x Sunshine ☀️
- Puns 🤪
- Found Family 💞
- Goldilocks retelling 🐻
- Slight Cinderella Vibes (imo) 👑
- Healing Magic/ She can talk to animals 🌿✨
Thank you to the author for a gifted audio version of this book. All thoughts are my own!

These two are just too sickeningly cute! Thank you so much to Gabrielle for letting me be an ARC reviewer for another one of her beautiful books!! I knew reading this book would make me feel happy and be giggling and kicking my feet because the love stories that Miss Landi writes are the ones to dream about. I adored how at the beginning, Guinevere was the sunshine to Gideon’s grumpy, but as the story progressed and they both began falling for each other, that switched up. Gideon loving those feelings he had for his Sunshine, but Guinevere feeling apprehensive and unsure, I loved the switch up in tropes and how it added to the realism of a new relationship.
These books are all so beautifully intertwined with each other but not in a way where you are completely lost if you haven’t read them all in the series, but it absolutely makes you want to read them and be able to read for yourself the love stories of these other gorgeous characters!

Gabrielle Landi has a way of writing that makes me think of childhood whimsy. The book series “The Galamere Chronicles” is a fun balance of whimsy, love, and fairytales. Just like the others my daughter loved hearing the audio book to sleep. The narrator sounds like a fairy godmother reading my daughter to sleep. The stories are not only fun for her but for me also.
I loved the whimsy and cheesy romance in this story. The cute dynamic between Guinevere and Gideon was perfect. Plus the puns were great too. I am definitely going to reread this story next spring or summer. I love listening to it while gardening or taking a walk. The artwork in the book was amazing and I loved having those visuals to add to the story. I enjoyed the story so much I bought it to collect the series for my daughter when she is a bit older. Gabrielle Landi’s books have become a comfort read for me when I want to get in the mood for the season or just want some cheesy romance.

A round of applause for another sugary sweet love story by Gabrielle Landi! Once Upon a Bear is a fantastic addition to the Galamere Chronicles world.
Guinevere and Gideon are such a cute couple. I absolutely loved getting to know another Rendon. He’s a bit cranky and withdrawn but he’s just sweet and hurting deep down. And obviously, we get to see more of Guinevere! It’s nice to actually have her stories after reading past novels because while she’s happy and kind, she’s also a bit of a mystery. I love how giggly she is with Gideon and I knew (after her past remedies) that the potion was going to be something else. I loved the puns and nicknames. ADORABLE!!! I also loved the comforting.
Overall, I’m very happy with this story. I cannot wait for the next one! Thank you to Gabrielle Landi for an ARC of Once Upon a Bear! All opinions are my own.
No-Spice Rating: 1 (very light kissing)

ARC Review: As always I find myself saying “I think they’re my favorite couple in this world”. I’ll have to reread all the books at some point to truly find out who my favorite is but for now it’s Guinevere and Gideon. I felt so bad for Gideon and his family. From the very first book it was so evident how much Gideon’s family was worried for him. The years he spent cursed had to have felt so lonely. Guinevere was a much anticipated fmc for me. The moment she walked on page I knew I wanted a book for her. She’s so funny and so kind, I knew she would have a very special story and the fact that this was our pairing was amazing. Gabrielle Landi’s stories are always so cozy and sweet. I enjoy not having to track a bunch of information and can just sit and enjoy a very wholesome story. I’m obsessed with the series and can’t wait to see where it takes us

I loved this entry in the Galamere Chronicles. Gideon and Guinevere's story was so sweet! I loved all the little moments they spent together as they tried to cure him of his curse. They are perfect for each other with their matching sense of humor - and by that I mean, many bear puns. Gideon's family are wonderful and it's touching to see Guinevere's perspective on them after so many years alone. There were so many appearances from other favorite characters from Galamere, some that we'd seen recently and some that we haven't seen in a while and it was so nice to see them again. I'm so excited for the next book of the series, but also a little sad as it will be the last one. Saying goodbye to this sweet, cozy world will be a bittersweet experience.

This was such a sweet and cozy story! Every installment of this series is a new favorite. Gideon and Guinevere were perfect for each other and I enjoyed watching their love grow in this Goldilocks retelling. The world-building was wonderful for the setting and I like the subtle use of magic throughout the series. I also appreciate that this story can be read independently from the rest. While characters from the previous books are involved, you don't need to know their full stories to enjoy this one. I really loved the narrator's voice inflections with each character and how she narrated the different points of view for each of the chapters. If you're looking for a clean and swoony fantasy romance, with grumpy sunshine vibes, then this is for you!

This book was so sweet!
I loved Gideon and Guinevere. He might be cursed to turn into a bear but he definitely isn’t one.
Gideon was a sweetheart and just wanted a normal life. He hates constantly vanishing but when you’re cursed to not tell anyone he has no choice. Watching him with Guinevere was so cute because he was smitten immediately. But he’s the second son of the lord and she’s a healer. He’s not going to let that stop him but how does she feel?
Guinevere is a healer who uses magic to help her patients. The only problem is magic is illegal. I felt for Guinevere because she’s so hard on herself. She didn’t have anyone to train her so her potions might not taste the best or might not work right the first time but she’s trying and that’s what matters.
I can’t wait to find out about Kellan’s story in Once Upon a Goat. These books are standalones but they make the most sense to read in order. I read this book as an arc.
I loved Gideon and Guinevere. He might be cursed to turn into a bear but he definitely isn’t one.
Gideon was a sweetheart and just wanted a normal life. He hates constantly vanishing but when you’re cursed to not tell anyone he has no choice. If you’re looking for a sweet read that will have you laughing one minute but relating to the characters’ struggles the next, then you’re going to want to add “Once Upon a Bear” by @landiwrites to your TBR! 🐻📖💕
I had the opportunity to read this one as an ARC, and it was such a fun, heartwarming read! I loved the humor woven throughout the story, but I also really connected with the characters and the struggles they were facing. It’s the kind of story that can make you laugh one minute and then tug at your heart the next.
And if you’re a fan of Goldilocks and her porridge or Pooh Bear and his love of honey, you’ll appreciate a few fun little bear-themed nods throughout this story. 🥣🍯🐻 No spoilers, I promise! 😉 Let me know if you find them!
Honestly, this book was anything but “unbearable”. 😂🐻 It was actually “beary”

Gabrielle Landi has done another excellent job! This cozy fantasy is inspired by the fairytale “Goldilocks and the Three Bears”. I have always thought this fairytale would be hard to turn into a cozy fantasy romance but Gabrielle did an amazing job! Guinevere was the perfect “Goldilocks”, very sweet, always understanding, and a very happy/bubbly personality. Gideon made the perfect “Bear”, his personality was very grouchy/bear like on the outside but all soft and sweet on the inside. It was so fun to see how Guinevere and Gideons relationship went from cautious to friendship to romance. I loved how the relationship went at a good pace instead of feeling rushed. I genuinely enjoy the characters and I look forward to the next book in the Galamere Chronicles.

This story is bear-y good & as sweet as honey! A new twist on Goldilocks with a lot of bear puns! I loved the grumpy/sunshine dynamic of Gideon & Guinevere & how perfect they are for each other! I think they are one of my favorite couples by Gabrielle! I haven’t read all of the stories in this series but this book makes me want to read the stories of all the couples you meet throughout this book! The whole book has a cozy small town feel that I liked & I really loved Gideon’s family too! They worry, argue, tease, & love like a real family! The only thing I didn’t like is that this story focused more on Guinevere’s magic which seemed to involve potions & spells. I don’t mind her being a healer but this was more magic heavy than the last one I read in the series. I really loved the sweet romance & living in this world for a little while other than that one thing.

I absolutely love the Galamere Chronicles! This book did not disappoint. Since Goldilocks and the three bears is one of my favorite fairytales, I was very excited for this retelling. All the little hints at the original story are so sweet and fun when you catch them. A sweet fantasy retelling that is so easy to binge! If you don’t like happy endings, then you shouldn’t read this. These books have become such a comfort read. Getting to know the characters more and more through each book, it’s great world building. I’m so intrigued now thanks to the epilogue!! If you like stories that just have a nod at the original fairytale this book and honestly this entire series is for you. Audiobooks and physical books of this series? Yes yes yes!
