Eerie how this 2015 Ebola thriller feels like it’s about the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. The thriller gets better as it moves along. Stay with it. It’s something of a morality tale and political thriller as well.
I enjoyed very much the first in the Dylan Kane series, and I thought I would like this series.
Another new series, and one of 3/4 different series by busy author J. Robert Kennedy.
Reading this book this year I found very frightening as it sounds like a book on 2020/2021 Covid 19.

A well paced action thriller, good characters, very believable, and very realistic.
One of the most successful and busy action authors you know he will always deliver on a gripping, well paced thriller of a book, enjoyed the Dylan Kane a fraction more, more another great series to follow...
J. Robert Kennedy writes exciting, thrilling and engaging books! This was another one of his that I could not put down. The setting is Africa in an Ebola epidemic with the Vice President’s daughter, a doctor volunteering at a clinic, who is suddenly kipnapped and brought to a remote village to tend to the forgotten people suffering. The story weaves a real threat of revenge on the US for not assisting in this epidemic and what that revenge will bring to the country and its people - Ebola. This is a quick read because it is so fast moving that the reader will not want to put it down!
Great to have Delta Force in their own series. A controversial start for them having to rescue the Vice President's daughter from a remote Ebola infected village in Sierra Leone. They need all their expertise not only for this rescue but also to stop terrorists determined to spread this virus within the USA. As usual the research and writing are up to the usual high standard from the author.
Book 1 was a fun read and had errors throughout. The plot and characters are developed well. The plot is interesting and goes back and forth between characters and what they are doing. It is a bit predictable and in some parts preachy about topics. The overall is easy to read and follow and I look forward to the next book.
It took me a little while to get into the plot, but when the action started and the fight to save lives kept me up much later than I thought— just keep them coming!
Enjoyed reading this book. Easy to read and quite a page-turner Late to review - but as others have said- the similarities between the Ebola & our current COVID-19 Pandemic Looking forward to reading more of the series
For anyone who has lived during the Ebola crisis, this brings back memories of how poorly the African continent was treated. Good on the author for spinning in a story such as this with medical personnel in the eye of the storm, so to speak.
A fast-moving story about crooked African politicians, ebola virus being used as a weapon and Delta Force members saving the day again. Overall, an entertaining read.
Thinly veiled propaganda hidden behind an action plot.
Honestly, with a title such as Delta Force UNLEASHED I was expecting some heavy action and military entertainment in the way of elite forces going against some unknown enemy in some unknown land. What I got instead was a sort of bio-thriller and conservative story about "the best of the best" and how "great" the US is. Which, I mean, honestly, my fault for not looking at the red flags from the onset.
I enjoy military media and special forces stories are some of my favorites, but Payback felt like it wanted to be too many things at once and didn't manage to properly catch anything. It wants to be a political thriller with a message (propaganda), a crime novel about terrorism, an espionage tale about CIA finding people, and an action-adventure story about a doctor surviving being a hostage. Sure, all those plots on their own are fine, but once they come together in a relatively short page count, you get a jumbled book that doesn't go anywhere.
There was a clear problem with the focus of the novel. Despite being about the Delta Forces, they, surprisingly, don't appear that much and there's a lot of back-and-forth with multiple characters that you don't really care that much about and only seem to slow-down the pace of the narrative. Chapters are exceptionally short and take you like 5-10 minutes to read. While that may seem like a plus to those that enjoy a fast-pace, it is more of a problem of not giving enough time for a story to properly set in. The only two characters I can recall well are the VP's daughter and the main villain. That's it.
Another issue I had was simply the way the author seemed to randomly remind you that the US is the best of the best. I ain't got no tiger on this fight but there's a way you can tell an author has build-up resentment and it shows when their characters seem to, suddenly, go on a charade about certain political and societal topics. If you read it and share the same views, you won't find a problem, but even someone with a modest iota of historical understanding can and will raise an eyebrow at the random "USA #1" arguments being spit by the characters.
A pity. There was some good ideas here but most of it is just not well explored and the plotlines get bogged down by the constant change of pace and numerous characters that don't contribute any emotional impact. The villain was pretty good, and his scenes are some of the best, but Delta Force? I can't even remember what the name of the leader was because he seemed inconsequential despite being the supposed main driven force behind this whole plot.
I'll give the second book a chance because I see potential here and I want a good Delta Force story, but this one left me thirsty, and not for a good reason.
I love Delta Team Bravo and them starring in their own series is nice to see. If you haven't already checked out J. Robert Kennedy's 'James Acton" series, I highly recommend you do.
Robert was correct, this was a bit scary to read if the delivery of the virus really could be "weaponized" like this for lack of a better term. Well written story and absolutely believable. I recommend this and all of Robert's other series.
I'm a big fan of the James Acton series, and my favorites are the Delta team. This is the first book to feature a stand-alone Delta story, and it focuses on the kidnapping of the the VP's daughter. The Ebola epidemic is at the center, as the action switches between Sierra Leonne and the US. This wasn't my favorite of Kennedy's stories, but I enjoyed it regardless. Fans of his books will like it.
This book is one is the best combination of an action packed thriller and a current real life epidemic that I have ever read. My hats off to Mr. Kennedy who's books just keep getting better and better. Can't wait for the next installment.
Excellent! The subject was pretty tough to read, but the story was done very well. The characters and their interaction with one another were outstanding. A fast-paced, heart-pounding, can't-put-it-down kind of book.
A fast read, an interesting subject matter, a disease we know little about, unfortunately the things happen in backward countries that have little intelligence resources. An interesting book to read.
