Devlin's Luck: Sinister Legacy Duet - Book 2
Ringo
Trust in luck. Bet on death. Lose my heart to a liar? Always.
Ringo Devlin is a man of many secrets and even more regrets. He played the role of the charming stranger to track his quarry, but he never expected to fall for the woman he used. Now that Ellie knows that he’s a hitman for the Manca family, she’s the one person resistant to his charms. But Ringo isn't just in Chicago to win her back; he’s there to claim a legacy that could change his life and finish a job that started in Las Vegas.
Ellie
Tell the lie. Break the rules. Fall for a hitman? Inevitable.
Ellie Jacobs returned to Chicago with a broken heart and a bar to run. She thought leaving Ringo behind would end the nightmare of her failed wedding. But the ghosts of Italy followed her home. Between the FBI agent stalking her every move at The Blarney Zone and the realization that her murderous ex-fiancé is still a threat, Ellie is drowning in the very chaos she tried to outrun.
When Ringo sits down at her bar, he’s a far cry from the happy-go-lucky traveler who lies better than she does. He’s a suave protector she doesn’t want to need and a wildcard in a game where the FBI and the Mob are both playing for keeps. Ellie knows Ringo is a bad bet. But her life is on the line, and he might be the only luck she has left.
Fortune favors the bold. Death favors the lucky.

Ellie is back in Chicago after returning from her failed wedding, although her twin sister ended up getting married instead to a total stranger. Now she was trying to forget the person who she knows she shouldn't be thinking about. Until she sees a figure she would know anywhere. Except now she has an FBI agent sat in the same bar as him. So is it really him or is she just seeing things. Ringo is sat at the bar in Chicago. He can't believe he's been sent here, and he can't believe he might finally know who his father is. Does he really want that responsibility. All he really want is the one person he shouldn't. But while he's here he can make sure she's safe. He has a job to carryout, one he will complete just to make sure he never goes near Ellie again. After all her ex is a danger and the Don has told him to end it. This book follows on from Allie and Mario's story, and pulls the two stories together perfectly. Between FBI agents, ex's, and trying to prove himself to Ellie can Ringo ever have a normal life. These two make a brilliant story. Ellie just seems to lie innocently about everything. While Ringo doesn't thing he's worth loving, and can he every admit how he feels about her. I loved both of these books, but I'm hoping Kat may get a story of her own.

An engaging mafia storyline that kept me well entertained. I loved book 1, but yes I thoroughly enjoyed Ellie and Ringo's love story even more. Ellie has so much sass and is much more impulsive than her twin sister Allie who's now happily married to Mario. The hit is out on Johnny "Pornstash", Don Conti's admittance his death bed rocked Ringo's world. He is now linked to the two big mafia families. The attraction is electrifying, but can Ellie accepts his lifestyle, let a trained assassin into her life? The woman who faints when she sees blood, yet he makes her feel safe and calms her nightly nightmares. Strong supporting characters, especially liked Kat. Well written.

I loved reading this book the drama started straight away, Las Vegas is where things really unfolded then things become dangerous, twists and turns, action, suspense steamy, Ellie Jacobs ( El ), was supposedly getting married in Las Vegas until she was left heart broken so she left town back to Chicago. El runs a Pub, she found out she was being stalked while being followed, it was becoming more dangerous for her, her home was shredded to pieces clothes destroyed she wasn't left with much. Ringo Devlin is dangerous, ruthless, dominant man, he walks quietly so he can sneak up on people. Ringo is like a ghost you only see him when he wants you to see, he has alot of secrets, he was infatuated with her and he would protect her with his life.

Thoroughly enjoyed this one. There isn’t as much difference between Allie and Ellie and people would like to think but Ringo and Ellie are just as perfect a match as Allie and Mario turned out to be.
A lot of intrigue and twists and turns a kidnapping or two and some work for the left hand got done. But for the most part they grew closer to each other. This was well worth the read.

Book 2 in the Sinister Legacy Duet and this time it is Ellie and Ringo's story.
These 2 characters are extremely stubborn and determined to do what they think is best. However, sometimes this goes against what the other one wants. I loved Ellie's sense of humour and how she tried to make some dark situations lighter. The banter and the snark was great fun to read but the connection they had especially from the last book only enhanced that relationship.
An don't for get the Ex - Pornstarch best name for an Ex ever!

Ringo and Ellie’s story is fast-paced, messy, and kind of addictive.
Ringo’s a hitman with secrets and regrets, while Ellie’s just trying to rebuild her life, but trouble (and Ringo) won’t leave her alone.
Tension, danger, and a lot of push-pull between them that keeps things interesting.
The mix of romance, crime, and drama works really well.

Oh I love Ringo Devlin. Him and Mario from valentine's code are fighting for favourite in this series. I love Ellie though she's my favourite twin. I would love to read more about Loppa and Firenze tho. feel like they have both got a fantastic story behind them.
Really great read, pretty quick and such an easy read too

Devlin’s Luck is the 2nd book in the Sinister Legacy Duet by Calia Wilde.
After her failed wedding Ellie has returned to Chicago, even though her twin sister did end up getting married instead, to a total stranger of all people. Now Ellie just wants to try and forget about the one person she knows she shouldn’t be thinking about. At least, until she sees a figure lurking around, she would know anywhere. The only problem, she has this FBI agent is sitting in the same bar as he is. Now Ellie is wondering if it really is who she thinks it is, or if she’s losing her mind and seeing things.
Ellie isn’t wrong though; Ringo is sitting in that bar in Chicago and he’s shocked that he could finally know who his father really is. Ringo is now questioning if he really wants the responsibility. What he does know for sure is that he wants the one person he knows he shouldn’t. And Ringo knows that while he’s here in Chicago, he’s going to make sure that she’s safe, even though he does have a job to complete, it’s one he’s going to carryout to ensure he never goes near Ellie again, never puts her in danger again. Ringo knows that Ellie’s ex is the real danger to her, and his Don has told him to end it once and for all.
I love the way that Devlin’s Luck follows Allie and Mario’s story and Calia has managed to pull the two stories perfectly together. Between the FBI agents that are lurking around, Ellie’s ex attempting to prove himself true to Ellie, you can’t help but start to wonder if Ellie and Ringo can ever just have a normal life like everyone else around them?
Ellie: she is full of grit and sass and has learned her own value. She also runs this Irish pub where the patrons feel like her family. It was Ellie’s twin sister Allie who married Mario who is Ringo’s best-friend.
Ellie tried really hard to not to want Ringo, mainly because of the fact that he was a hitman for the mafia, and there’s the fact that he had in fact hurt her previously.
Ringo: He is a hitman for the Mafia and yet at the same time he is this mellow and calm guy. Mario is Ringo best-friends and married Ellie’s twin sister Allie. He’s been linked to two big Mafia families.
Ringo lives with many secrets and just as many regrets. To track his quarry, he plays the role of the charming stranger, but he can’t fall for the woman he’s used. Ringo can lie better than Ellie, he’s obsessive and a protector who plays for keeps.
Kat: Ellie’s best-friend. She is stunning and just absolutely fantastic. I do think that everyone should have their own Kat in their lives.
Kat is this amazing secondary character who really stood out on her own, in her own right and she deserves to have her own story told.
Johnny “Pornstach”: Ellie’s ex. I have to say that this name was just hysterical in my opinion.
Everything brought together from Allie and Mario, Ellie’s ex, the FBI agent’s, Ellie and Ringo’s journey to finding happiness together, it all just makes for this compelling and brilliant story.
It seemed like Ellie was able to lie about anything and everything and come off as innocent. Ringo on the other hand doesn’t believe that he’s worthy of being loved, and he has trouble even admitting how he feels about Ellie. And as much as I loved this duet, I hope that Calia decides to take this duet and make this a trilogy and gives Kat her own story.
I highly recommend both books in this duet.

Devlin’s Luck by Calia Wilde carries a completely different energy than the first book, and honestly, it feels a little more unpredictable in the best way.
There’s something about this one that feels less controlled, more volatile… like everything is teetering just slightly closer to the edge.
Ringo is at the center of that.
He doesn’t have that same rigid, structured control you see in other characters in this world. There’s a looseness to him, charming on the surface, but underneath that is someone carrying a lot of weight he doesn’t fully let show. And when it does slip through, it hits harder because you realize how much of him is built on deflection, on performance, on being whoever he needs to be in the moment.
With Ellie, that doesn’t work the same way.
She sees through more than he expects, and that shift in their dynamic is where things get really interesting. There’s resistance there, but it’s not clean or simple. It’s layered with history, hurt, and that frustrating kind of pull where walking away would be easier… but not necessarily possible.
Their connection feels like a gamble the entire time.
Not in a dramatic, over-the-top way, but in that quiet, constant tension where you know neither of them is fully safe with the other, and yet they keep choosing to stay in each other’s orbit anyway. There’s a push and pull between trust and self-preservation that never fully settles, which keeps everything feeling just a little unstable.
The emotional side leans heavier here too.
There’s more baggage, more history pressing in, more things left unresolved that shape how they interact. It gives their relationship this slightly jagged edge like even the softer moments have something underneath them that could shift at any second.
The setting adds to that feeling.
That bar environment, the constant movement of people, the sense of being watched or pulled into something bigger. It creates this atmosphere where nothing ever feels fully private. Everything is exposed in some way, whether they want it to be or not, and that lack of control feeds right back into the tension between them.
And then there’s the external pressure.
It’s not just background noise, it actively tightens the story. There’s always something closing in, something complicating their already messy dynamic, and it keeps the pacing from ever feeling too comfortable. Just when things start to steady, something shifts, and you’re right back in that uncertain space.
What really stood out to me, though, is how much this book leans into identity. Who these characters are versus who they pretend to be.
Both of them are constantly navigating that line, and it shows in how they interact, how they protect themselves, and how they slowly start letting those walls crack. Not fully, but just enough to make it matter.
If the first book felt like controlled chaos, this one feels like calculated risk.
Less about rules, more about choices, and what happens when those choices start catching up to you.
If you like darker romance with morally gray characters, messy emotional tension, and relationships that feel more like a risk than a comfort, this one definitely leans into that space.
As always be mindful of any trigger warnings, what I like you may not.
Happy Reading! ✨📚

There’s something here that feels less controlled, more volatile… like everything is balanced just a little too close to the edge.
Ringo sits right at the center of that.
He doesn’t have the same rigid control as other characters in this world. There’s a looseness to him—charming on the surface—but underneath is someone carrying more than he lets show. And when that slips through, it lands harder, because you start to see how much of him is built on deflection, on performance, on adapting to whatever the moment requires.
With Ellie, though, that approach doesn’t hold.
She sees more than he expects, and that shift in their dynamic is where things really start to deepen. The resistance between them isn’t clean or simple—it’s layered with history, hurt, and that frustrating pull where walking away might be easier… but not necessarily possible.
Their connection feels like a gamble the entire time.
Not in an over-the-top way, but in that quiet, persistent tension where neither of them is truly safe with the other—and yet they keep choosing to stay. There’s a constant push and pull between trust and self-presation that never fully settles, which keeps everything feeling just slightly unstable.
The emotional weight leans heavier here too.
More baggage, more history, more unresolved tension shaping every interaction. Even the softer moments feel edged with something sharper underneath, like they could shift at any second.
The setting reinforces that.
The bar environment—the movement, the noise, the sense of being watched—creates a space where nothing feels entirely private. That exposure feeds directly into the tension between them, amplifying the lack of control.
And the external pressure isn’t just background—it actively tightens the story.
There’s always something closing in, something complicating their already fragile dynamic. Just when things start to steady, something shifts, pulling everything back into uncertainty.
What stands out most is the exploration of identity—who these characters are versus who they present themselves to be.
Both are constantly navigating that line, and it shows in how they protect themselves, how they interact, and how they slowly—carefully—let those walls crack. Not completely, but enough to matter.
If the first book felt like controlled chaos, this one feels like calculated risk.

DEVLIN’S LUCK is the second instalment in Calie Wilde’s contemporary, adult SINISTER LEGACY erotic, Mafia romance duet focusing on twin sisters- Allie and Ellie. Jacobs. This is bar owner Ellie Jacobs, and Ringo Devlin’s story line. DEVLIN’S LUCK should not be read as a stand alone, as it picks up after the events of book one VALENTINE’S CODE
NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.
Told from dual first person perspectives Ellie and Ringo) DEVLIN’S LUCK follows in the wake of the return of Ellie Jacobs, having been left at the alter by a man she did not love. Travelling through Europe with a man she barely knew, Ellie found herself falling for mobster Ringo Devlin, her sister’s husband’s questionable best friend but a man who is willing to die to protect our story line heroine. When Ellie’s ex returns, threatening her life in the process, Ringo ensures no harm will ever come to Ellie but in doing so, believes he is the biggest threat of all.
The world building follows several pathways including the revelations about the family Ringo never knew. Ellie and her sister Allie grew up Mafia-adjacent, and in this, Ellie was hoping to leave the lifestyle behind but both sisters fell in love with men deeply connected to the Mob, and at times, found themselves the target of some powerful men.
The relationship between Ellie and Ringo is tempestuous and argumentative. Ringo has declared himself guardian and protector but Ellie doesn’t was protection, even in the face of threats against her life. The $ex scenes are passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
Most of the previous story line secondary and supporting characters return including Ringo’s best friend, Mafia heir and assassin Mario Valentini, Don Manca, Loppa and Firenze, Don Conti, and Ellie’s ex Johnny Porciello. We are introduced to Ellie’s friends and co-workers: Rosco, Ellie’s best friend Kat, ex-copy Casey Kelly, as well as FBI Special Agent Bridget Perkins.
DEVLIN’S LUCK is a story of betrayal and vengeance, power and control, secrets and lies, family and relationships, acceptance and love. The character driven premise is edgy and intriguing; the romance is fated and seductive; the characters are desperate and dynamic.

I liked Allie, but I LOVE Ellie! This book knocked my socks off!
***
DEVLIN’S LUCK is the sequel to VALENTINE’S CODE by Calia Wilde. Both books are great, but I actually like DEVLIN’S LUCK better. And that’s because of Ellie. She was a hapless, near-miss bride in the previous book, a trouble magnet. But her flip and frivolous exterior hides a canny, levelheaded business owner and mini-mogul. I love that. I thought Ellie’s sense of humor was marvelous, and I laughed when she and Ringo exchanged zingers, when her apartment decor was revealed, and when she was wearing the onesie. Ellie and Ringo are both awesome; he’s an assassin for… friends of friends. He’s also got what my great granny would call “a little bit of devil in his eye”. He’s irresistible.
In the previous book, the fast-paced plot was the greatest strength of the story. In this book, the characters are what shines through. The plot is good,, not breathless, but good, but the characters make it truly special.
Cat’s Stats
Heat- open door, semi-explicit
Bechdel test- passed
Safety- Y
Triggers- violence, bodily fluids, stalking.
Tropes- Second Chance, Love to H 8 You, Instalove Gone Wrong, Assassins, Irish Bar, Do-Si-Do with the Mafioso.

I knew when I read book one in the series between Mario and Abbie, and Ringo and Ellie were secondary characters, that when they became the primary ones, the story would be good, and it certainly didn't disappoint.
The book is funny from the outset. Ellie certainly knows how to give as good as she gets. She tries to show the world that she doesn't take things seriously, but she does. She loves hard, she cares deeply. She puts others before herself.
Ringo is a player, never serious about anyone until Ellie; there is just something about her that draws him to her. While stateside, he is supposed to be keeping an eye on Ellie at the request of Don Manca. But it ends up more than just an eye!
Both have to deal with their feelings for each other. Ellie has to deal with her ex, who thinks that she owes him something, seeing as she called off their wedding. Ringo has to deal with her ex for a different reason.
The book was read in one sitting. It's funny and steamy, just like I knew it would be.

Ellie is a sharp-mouthed Chicago bar owner freshly back from Italy, heartbroken and running on caffeine. Ringo is a Sardinian assassin with a code, a blade, and a past he doesn't talk about. They shouldn't make sense together — and Wilde makes you feel exactly why they do anyway.
The real win here is the voice. Ellie is genuinely funny, not "quirky female lead" funny, and Ringo's quietness hits differently once you understand what's underneath it. The Sardinian mob world feels specific and researched rather than decorative, which gives the whole thing more weight than you'd expect from the genre.
It's a slow burn, which works in its favor — but fair warning, it ends very much as a Part One. If open endings frustrate you, grab Book 2 first so it's ready.
Worth the read.

Devlin's Luck is book two of the Sinister Legacy Duet.
I was eagerly awaiting this next installment to the duet. We saw some things hinted between Ringo and Ellie in the first book and I desperately wanted to read more about their time together. Both of these characters are stubborn and determined to do what they think is best. However, sometimes this goes against what the other one wants. I loved Ellie's sense of humour and how she tried to make some dark situations lighter. Ringo does everything he can to protect Ellie and make sure she has the best life. These two were perfect for each other, even though they had to bang their heads together a couple of times to figure this out themselves. This was worth the wait. Loved it!

This book was about hitman Ringo and bar owner Ellie. The last book was Ellie 's sister Allie who married Mario, Ringo's best friend.
I really enjoyed Ringo and Ellie. The banter and the snark was great fun but the connection they had especially from the last book only enhanced that relationship.
Ellie tried hard not to want hitman Ringo but that was only because she knew what he did and he had hurt her. She didn't trust him but when trouble was afoot, Ringo had her back every time.
So amazing the layers and complexity of the story. But I also enjoyed these two. A relationship that offered intensity by also fun and wit.
Beautifully written and a great read. Loved it!

This was such a great follow up to book one and I was thrilled to read Ellie's (Allie's twin) story. She's got such sass and a caring heart that she hides under her quirky humour. Ringo is an assassin and he hurt Ellie in book one. Now, he's after her ex, Johnny Pornstash, but he also wants to keep her safe. These two were so stubborn but they were perfectly matched ;P I loved the banter between them, often giggling away at the zingers flying around them ;D Expect to get caught up in the drama, action, danger, witty humour and hot romance as these complex characters work their way to a fab HEA. Good fun!

Devlin's Luck is book 2 of the Sinister Legacy Duet and this one is Ringo and Ellie's story. If you loved sister Allie and Marco's story then you'll you'll absolutely fall head over heels for Ellie and Ringo! I love Ellie! She's so full of sass and grit and knows her value. And then there's her ex "Pornstach". That name he was tacked with is hysterical. 🤣 And we can't forget the bff Kat! She's freakin fantastic! Everybody needs a Kat in their lives. Devlin's Luck is incredible! It's engaging, intriguing and completely consuming!

Devlin's Luck is a Mafia romance set in Chicago. It's always nice to read a story, where the area is set, where you live. Devlin is a hitman for the Mafia, but he is so mellow and calm. The story is delightful and easy going. The characters are enjoyable. Elle runs an Irish pub. The patrons feel like family. Devlin and Elle are made for each other. The story is over St. Patrick's Day, so that too, makes it a fun book to read.

I loved, loved this book. It’s so dang good. It has a well thought out storyline. It is lush with details too. The author did an amazing job at crafting the narrative. The characters were lovely and perfectly matched. I loved the banter between them too. Overall, this was an addictive page turner that held my interest from start to finish. It’s the perfect read for those that love mafia romance and a morally grey MMC. Thanks so much to the author for a copy of this. All thoughts and opinions are my own and freely expressed.

Loved book 2 in the Sinister Legacy duet. It contains all of the characters from book 1, but focuses on Ellie and Ringo, with Allie and Mario having cameos. Lot’s of action, the FBI and The Hand ( Italian mafia assassins) show up to cause trouble while Ringo’s trying to get Ellie to trust him. It’s a fun, sexy read that takes them from Chicago to Italy and back again. The characters are well written and the storyline makes this a fun read . 5✨’s . Devlin’s Luck is an addictive page-turner. At its heart are Ellie and Ringo—two perfectly matched characters whose chemistry is defined by intense passion and witty banter. Although, they’re constantly navigating the shadows of Ellie’s past—including a persistent ex-fiancé—and Ringo's own dangerous life. A must-read with its perfect mix of intensity, humor, and heart!

This was the 2nd one in this series. This was about Ellie and Devlin. Ellie ditched her fiance Johnny because he turned out to be someone different. He was lying to her. She still went on her honeymoon to Italy. This is where Devin comes in. He needed a ticket to Italy and so they changed the ticket to his name and this is where their story begins. She stayed in Italy for a few weeks and then went back home. Must read.

I liked reading Book two and getting to see Ellie get her happy ending after a disastrous wedding that led to her twin sister's happily ever after. I am glad Ringo and Ellie were given a second chance and that they made it count.

Ringo's story was just as good as Mario's. Ringo and Ellie dynamics were all over the place but I loved every minute of their story. This is a witty dramatic love story . Ringo and Ellie are unique and had many quirks that made me laugh and kept me entertained. I was really impressed with the way this played out all the way to the end.

I couldn’t wait for this one to come out and it did not disappoint! Ellie and Ringo !
I loved Ellie and Ringo in the first book and they were all that I expected here in their own book. Her style, her spit fire and her ways were never too much for Ringo. She tried to fight his irresistible ways but he was just too much.
I couldn’t put this one down! You must read this one!

My second in the series and by the author! Excited for more!
Suspense.
Twists and turns that will keep you on your toes!
Steam!
Wonderful dialogue/banter!
You wouldn't expect laughter with the tropes in this story, but Ms. Wilde made me do exactly that!

Ringo is a hitman who goes against character and is very protective of Ellie which is not really in his job description. She is trying to rebuild her life after a failed marriage, but trouble has followed her back to the bar.
Throw in the Mafia, FBI agents, and a pesky ex, and you have a story full of intrigue, drama, danger, and perhaps an HEA.

Ellie brings the drama in this dynamic storyline. Her personality had me connecting with her and in her corner. When she connected with Ringo, I found it interesting. It is a great story with rounded characters that brings this book to life.
