I write smutty werewolf romances for a living. Now a 6' 7 werwolf king is growling “Mate” at me like I manifested him- and saying we are fated.
I have a wine book club, a social media following, and an abusive ex I can’t shake.
Nobody warned me that writing about possessive alphas would summon one who insists some ancient bond makes me his.
Caelan Goldridge is intense. Dangerous. And completely, inexplicably obsessed with me.
He follows me to my book club. Snarls at men who look my way. Shows up at my door wrapped in a cat-print blanket after I kick him out. Annotates my novel and highlights every scene where the hero claims the heroine. "I'm going to make you live every word you wrote."
Then he puts those notes into practice.
He pins me against the wall and bites my shoulder, marking me. Bends me over my kitchen table, while my wine club meets in the next room. He claims me completely and makes me believe I'm his forever.
Then he kingdom calls him home. And he rejects me in front of his entire court.
I call him a coward to his face.
But there’s something growing inside me. Someone’s been poisoning me because of it.
Now the lycan king shows up with gifts and my books he’s memorized.
He’s about to learn exactly how long I can hold a grudge.
Rejected Bookish Mate of the Lycan King is a rejected mate shifter romance featuring a possessive, groveling Lycan king and his romance author mate who never expected her fictional alphas to show up at her book signing, intended for 18+ readers due to mature content and themes.
I didn't have a hatred for this book so 2 stars! WHOOOOOOO!
Honestly, I felt like she was a bit of a bitch as the book went on. She repeatedly tells others that they're friends just to fuck with him, tells him to leave when he beats up her ex, and when he claims and bites her neck, she turns into a werewolf and immediately blames him.
As for the H, he seems like a dummy at times haha. He is jealous/possessive, but in the neaderthal, drag the knuckles along the floor kinda way.
Everything in the story line worked TOO well. As in, she meets a prince of a werewolf kingdom and it turns out instead of being human, shes actually a werewolf princess who came to the human world through a portal *rolls eyes super duper hard*
I think the author missed a huge plothole when she had the h have a cold and the H kept saying that werewolfs don't ever get sick *rolling eyes again*. And the end when they tell all of her human friends about this portal and have the h change into a werewolf? This doesn't seem very smart to start telling everyone about this new world.....isn't this why Superman and all the other superheros didn't tell others their other self?....but....what the heck do I know?!
There were some funny parts that kept me engaged, but a lot of this book dragged on and didn't have the best, original storyline. But I finished *shrug*
I didn’t much care for the MFC. She’s a romance novelist that writes about werewolves. She has a horrible ex that’s taking nearly half her money. She meets the MMC when she’s doing a book signing. He’s immediately smitten by her (recognizing her as his mate) and is nothing but nice to her. Fast forward to another book signing and another man decides to join and makes it obvious he likes her. When he asks what the relationship is between her and the MMC she immediately says, “We’re just friends. Platonic.” She’s immediately forgiven by the MMC.
After they’ve been together intimately. Her ex confronts her over a lawsuit that’s been filed (MMC did it on her behalf because he didn’t want her being taken advantage of). He starts choking her and the MMC appears and shifts in front of her to attack her ex. How does she show her appreciation? By kicking him out repeatedly. She apologizes, but that’s it.
Shortly after he’s claimed her, she shifts. Once again, she’s immediately angry with him and says it’s all his fault. She won’t let him near her and tells him to stay away from her. She discovers that she was already a wolf, but her wolf was dormant. Once again, he forgives her immediately.
When she visits him in his kingdom, she overhears part of a conversation between the female antagonist and the MMC. She immediately thinks the worst of him and won’t give him a chance to explain anything to her. Surprise, surprise.
She still isn’t speaking to him when he starts finding notes threatening her life and the life of their unborn baby. Unknowingly, she’s been poisoned slowly. The notes demand he reject her if he wants her and their baby to live. He and his parents decide to stage a public rejection to satisfy the demands of the threats. They decide not to tell the MFC because a) she isn’t speaking to him and b) they need her reaction to being rejected to be genuine and convincing. The rejection is successful and they’re given the antidote to cure her.
Even after being a doormat throughout the entire book, she still expects him to grovel even after discovering that he was trying to protect her and their baby. She’s upset she wasn’t filled in prior to the rejection even though she wouldn’t listen to him.
I liked the MMC. He’s very sweet to her and very attentive. The ad I first saw for the book gave the illusion that there could be cheating between he and the female antagonist. The MMC is completely faithful. No cheating whatsoever.
If you enjoy spice with your books, don’t pass on this one! 🥵🔥
Caelan, a wolf shifter from a paranormal universe, walks into a bookstore and realizes Riley is his fated mate. So he stalks, obsesses over and love bombs her. So much love bombing. Over the top love bombing. It’s a little tiring to read. This is for most of the book.
Caelan also seems a little dim at times. As in, not very smart. I think it’s to show he’s not human and doesn’t have human logic. So he can’t drive, doesn’t understand how the world works or how people interact. It’s like explaining things to a toddler. Except it’s a man. Not sexy at all. But he throws money around like he prints it so there’s that.
Riley is very angsty. She overthinks everything. So much of her inner narrative is constant worry. She has an interesting sense of humor that Caelan doesn’t get. The other characters and their interactions and reactions are not relatable. They’re all one dimensional. It’s a shifter story that doesn’t involve much shifting. So it’s shifter-light.
The plot drags for most of the book. You really have to suspend belief there. Particularly the last 1/3 of the book when Caelan leaves Riley alone and goes home to his universe to fight a war. Just because you put the characters in another world doesn’t mean they suddenly,y have all these powers. Truthfully, most of it had me rolling my eyes. It really doesn’t get interesting until nearing the end. I just had to suspend belief to get to it. I haven’t read anything else from this series but if they’re all like this, I’m skipping the rest.

Rejected Bookish Mate of the Lycan King de Elara Haze serie Possessive Small Town Alpha Kings libro 10
Argumento:
Peligroso.
This was a sweet, interesting story that made me swoon repeatedly. Great, flowing plot, revolving more over courtship than action and danger (although there is plenty of that, especially towards the end) and two amazing MCs that will steal your heart. Riley is a fiction romance author – she is writing about…you guessed it, werewolves! The spicy kind! Caelan and his sister Thessa, the prince and princess of Duskmere, Lytopia, come to the little town of Lysmont – in the human realm – where Riley lives to investigate the new, unstable portal that had been create between the two worlds. There, they find Riley during a book signing. A long, swoon-worthy courting period begins that melted my heart (Caelan left me a puddle on the floor!). When Riley’s past is revealed complications arise, truths and conspiracies come to light and danger surrounds them all. Will Riley and Caelan find their HEA? I devoured the book in one sitting. 5 stars
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book was well written and edited. The story theme is the same.. werewolf finds mate, pursues mate, gets bonded then rejects mate for their safety. The things that made this book better than most of the previous books was because some one or maybe a team paid attention to details. There weren't giant editing errors that stopped the flow of the book which has been a problem with previous books in this series. This writer combination is also better than some of the other authors in this series. This author (s) didn't (1)carelessly insert spoilers, (2) introduced past characters into the book because it was necessary to the story, (3) knew when to END the story. All these things combined resulted in a very good book . It could have used more humor but this book is one of the best of the series.
ok first off .... HE NEVER REJECTED HER??? if anything this man was 1000% into her from the jump so I have no idea how that fits the trope at all.
This was a mixed bag. while the smut was pretty good, the romance and story weren't. the book is a bit of a slog to get through towards the middle and while I liked the side characters like her friends and his sister, them as a couple felt kind of flat. sure the chemistry is there but with the lack of worldbuilding and actual romance it's just felt off that they would be together. also Riley when from being terrified and unaware of werewolves to "imma ride that d" in like 2 minutes flat.
not terrible but not at all the best you can find in the shifter genre
I enjoyed reading this book, not your average werewolf book. It is funny, sad, exciting, sexy with the proverbial bad guys mixed in. The basic love story gets mixed up in politics, danger and jealously and some X-Rated love scenes.
Since this is the first book in this series that I have read, the concept of werewolf life is a little strange to me. Some of the usual werewolf customs are not present and new ones are substituted so the reader can't presume things will happen a certain way.
18+, XXX. Adult content, reader discretion advised. Fall I to a world where fiction is reality. Meet Caelan and Riley. Riley writes paranormal smut romance fiction. It's supposed to be fiction. In her world, however, fiction becomes reality. Cealan walks into Riley's book signing and announces "mate". Things get complicated from there. Lake swim parties, attempted murder by ex's, kidnapping, turning into wolves and pregnancy. Just a few of the good times they had.
I have mixed feelings about this book. I really enjoyed their love story and chemistry. I’ll be honest, I am not a fan of fantasy books at all. This is the first book I’ve read where there is another dimension and I still don’t like it. But, I did enjoy their love story journey of the two MCs and how they got their HEA.
The perfect line in this book. {We were really nailing this whole communication thing.} This had me cracking up. I know this is a trope by itself but inside this trope what is it about the man thinking they know best for every situation. Also to me this wasn't really a grovel just drop and roll over and done.
Raised by her God Mother after the death of her parents and trying to get out of a toxic relationship with the man who is her manager. What an interesting time to meet a man who attracts her. Now she wonders if she can trust her own feelings. Good Adult Read.
I'm hovering between a 2 and a 3 because I think most of it was fun, but some of it drove me a little crazy. I already know I'm reading all of them in the series though, so take that as you well.
This book is a breathtaking change in shifter novels. The sense of humor is refreshing and on point! Romance to the hilt with steamy scenes! Love this book!
way too long for what it was. I get that there was a lot about the fact that he was another species and she was human, but I wish there had been more about them when they were mates.
