Hitman #4

Last Hope

Rate this book
Mendoza: I grew up in the slums and lost everything I loved to poverty, illness, and death. I had only one skill to leverage myself out of my circumstances-violence. Being hired out as a mercenary hitman brought me money and built an empire. My next job: steal secret information that could bring down world governments, find my target, and destroy it. But then, I meet her.

Ava: When my best friend, Rose, is kidnapped, I have no choice but to take a job as a mule for a pair of criminals intent on selling top secret information to the highest bidder. I should have known that bad luck tends to cling, because the plane I'm on goes down. That I survived a crash-landing was a miracle. And so was being rescued by sexy mercenary Rafe Mendoza. The thing is, he wants the information that I need to free Rose. I can't let him have it, but I need his help. Rose is depending on me, and I won't let her down.

This is a pen name for Jill Myles.

Jill Myles has been an incurable romantic since childhood. She reads all the 'naughty parts' of books first, looks for a dirty joke in just about everything, and thinks to this day that the Little House on the Prairie books should have been steamier.

After devouring hundreds of paperback romances, mythology books, and archaeological tomes, she decided to write a few books of her own - stories with a wild adventure, sharp banter, and lots of super-sexy situations. She prefers her heroes alpha and half-dressed, her heroines witty, and she loves nothing more than watching them overcome adversity to fall into bed together.

WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FUCK WAS THIS?!

No seriously, someone please tell me.

Someone please tell me how one of my favorite series of all time - Daniel and Regan's book is seriously one of my TOP READS OF ALL FUCKING TIME - was reduced to being about seemingly nothing more than a TTSL female and and her relationship with Mendoza's Godzilla dick.

description

Seriously though, I knew going in that THE Dick heard 'round the world played a large role in this story.

But I didn't realize it would basically be its own fucking character that pretty much takes over the entire story line.

Seriously though, the whole Godzilla thing took up SO much of everything that I spent the majority of the book reading against an internal Sir Mix-A-Lot soundtrack.

With one specific line on repeat.

But I'm just too sad.

I've read every single book in this series including the novella, but I just don't see the connection of Last Hope has with the rest of the series. Is not a problem to me, but I just want to make a point. In the beginning, you will see the hero in the middle of a job with a few fellow mercenaries and you will start thinking that you are missing something crucial from the previous book, which is not the case.

Rafe Mendoza is a mercenary in the midst of trying to save his friend from the government. His job is to steal a classified information from Duval. During his scouting, he came across Duval's mule, Ava.

Ava is a hand model with hetero-chromatic eyes who is trying to save her best friend by being a mule for Duval. Her job is to show the classified information to his potential buyer.

I was pretty engrossed in the first half of the story whereby Rafe and Ava were trying to survive in the middle of nowhere Amazon. Something about all these sweat, mud and adrenaline make up a sexy concoction.

description

I'm embarrassed to admit that the most fascinating part of the story is Mendoza's ginormous cock and how his sex life was absolutely miserable because of it. I read countless of erotica and the biggest one I came across is 9 inch long and the guy was pretty smug and can't wait to whip it out. Mendoza's situation is way different and for that alone, this book is worth the read.

"Maybe we should talk about it, Rafe."
"It?"
"You know. Godzilla."

I would rather call it Cockzila. I just can't stop thinking it!

The image is for illustration purpose only, it is not a representative of the product.

Anyway, I don't feel the suspense part of the story is that strong enough. I think if we have Ava's transporting drugs, fire arms or bio warfare, things will be much more interesting. The problem with the classified information is I don't know what is it about. Is too ambiguous and I don't feel the kind of adrenaline rush.

5 Yummy in the Jungle Stars

Last Hope is a standalone and is part of the Hitman series. I can’t stress enough how much I love this series and I love each book more and more. Last Hope is different from the previous ones and it hit all the right spots for me.

This is Mendoza and Ava’s story.

Mendoza is a hitman, mercenary. He takes on jobs and he is ruthless. Ava is stuck in a situation trying to help her best friend.

What I love about these books is that I’m instantly I’m hooked from the start. I love getting sucked in and I know it’s going to be a fun ride. Ava’s friend is kidnapped and the only way she can save her friend is if she works with the bad guys.

Ava is a Heroine I absolutely adore. As much as I love my damsels in distress, I love her strong personality and will to save her friend. She works as a mule, trading secret information for her friend’s captor. It’s a unique story-line and like I said I was pulled in instantly.

Mendoza wants to steal the information. He’s been watching Ava and the goons work and as much as Mendoza admires the girl, he can’t have any distractions. Yes, Ava is beautiful, model beautiful, but Mendoza is on a mission.

Also, Mendoza’s past has left him very tortured and slightly damaged. Everyone knows I love a damaged Hero. Soon the two find themselves in an airplane accident and they have to survive in the jungle. Oh my goodness, you know I had happy times reading this!

Mendoza’s past is dark, but the tone and fell of this read is pretty light and very funny. I loved Ava and Mendoza trapped in the jungle, there’s something about trying-to-survive-in-the-wild storyline that just gets me intrigued. I also love love love all the action in these books. The gun fire, the killing, the suspense, oh my!

Both are wounded, barely living, but still have crazy attraction towards each other. I love the tension! Gah, I was gripping the pages and was on the edge of my seat. Mendoza doesn’t want to start anything with Ava, but every time he sees her, he has a hard on and Ava like the awesome Heroine that she is, calls him out on it.

It’s fantastic and completely hilarious.

I devoured Last Hope from start to finish. I never want the series to end. PLEASE keep on writing these books. I want more Hitmen PLEASE!

If you are a fan of the series or are thinking of trying it, this one is a perfect for you! I promise.

3.5 - "Deaths not taking us today." Stars!

ITS LIVE!

I really enjoyed Last Hope it had a certain 'tongue in cheek' quality to it that the previous books in this series didn’t have. It didn’t really have the feel of the rest of the books in the Hitman series either, in that it wasn't really connected to them, and the story wasn’t as dark or edgy. I think this is mainly because a large part of the book is taken up with thoughts, discussions, general chit-chat and non-stop visualization of and about Rafe’s unusually large cock!

Python, baseball bat, club, and Godzilla are just some of the euphemisms that pop up throughout the book, and to be honest it was in the forefront of both Ava and Rafe’s adventures for such a large part of the book, the fact they were stuck in the jungle, had been in a plane crash, and were being pursued by all-sorts of unsavory characters kind of faded into the background a bit, when the all-important question was left out there… WILL IT FIT???

A guy with an inappropriate boner? It happens. I can get past it. A guy with an inappropriate boner that’s bigger than any log I’ve been able to find in the rainforest? A lot less okay.

Although I am poking fun a little bit, this is still a good book, the tropes used are certainly new ones to me, I mean yes every hero I have ever read about had got a big dick, but not so big that he honestly believes it may kill a woman if he penetrates her with it.

Giant cock or no, there’s more to Mendoza than what’s in his pants.

The authors have provided an extremely entertaining, sometimes touching and in parts pretty funny addition to the Hitman series, as I said I am not sure it is a true fit with the rest of the books, and that may be an issue for some readers, but if you take it as just good all-round reading enjoyment then it ticks all the boxes on that front for me.

”You’ve been thrown in the fire and you’ve been polished to the sharpest, strongest steel.”

WARNING: This review contains a lot of spoilers...proceed at your own risk!

It's always hard with series because often after the first few books you find yourself getting bored and wondering "Why am I wasting my time?".

Unfortunately this was the case with the beginning of this book as well...but because I always try to reach my 25% mark (not always successful but that's life) I powered through and boy am I glad I did :D

description

I'm still having mixed feelings about this novel because it had some ingredients that should have made me want to hit it and quit it.

What you may wonder?

Well for example Mendoza is a thirty something mercenary that's also a VIRGIN...ok I could have worked with that but here's the reason why he still has his V card...*drum roll*...

description

Because he has a very...

very...

very...

very...

BIG DICK!!!!

description

My thoughts exactly...

You might be wondering how big are we talking about...

Well it's the kind of big that had Ava believe he had something in his pocked (like a gun) and made her name it Godzilla :P

description

Still not getting the WHOLE picture? :P

Then imagine Chris Hemsworth in the movie The Vacation...

description

Only BIGGER!!!!!

Yeah...I know...my thoughts exactly...but that still doesn't explain why he's still a virgin because by all accounts he should be a porn star by now.

Apparently he was raised by a very religious mother that told him repeatedly that he was cursed and given a big dick to hurt women and his first (failed) sexual encounter lead to the death of the girl and to him believing it was caused by him trying to have sex with her (stupid I know...cause you have to put it in to do any damage and not just the tip :P).

description

On top of all that being stranded in the tropical forest with a hot hand model did not make Godzilla want to go away so there where three instead of two trying to get to civilization.

Ava makes it her mission to get Mendoza to be intimate with her and get his V card...so we get some very hot - in and out of the jungle- sex scenes :P

description

Bottom line is I couldn't put the book down despite all the parts I shouldn't have loved but did and this book got top 5 stars for me :D

Last Hope by Jessica Clare and Jen Frederick is a sexy, fast paced, seductive romantic suspense that will take readers on a crazy whirlwind adventure in the heart of the Amazon jungle. As always, Ms. Clare and Ms. Frederick has perfected in captivating and luring their readers in this sexy romantic suspense thriller filled with lots of laughs, banter, action, and palpable sexual chemistry. In this 4th installment of the Hitman Series, our mercenary hero, Rafe Mendoza finds himself entangled deep in the jungle with Ava, a hand-model, who plays a big hand in showing him what it means to have hope.

#lasthope

Rafe Mendoza is a mercenary hitman and his new job assignment is to steal secret information that could bring down world governments and help rescue his friend. His job was to find the target and bring down anyone who stands in his way. But what Rafe didn't expect was to get entangled with Ava.

As a hand model, Ava never thought she would be embroiled in a criminal activity. When her best friend, Rosa, is held captive by her criminal boyfriend, Duval, Ava must do all things necessary in order to ensure the safety of her best friend even if it means being a mule. All she had to do was meet with potential buyers and deliver these top classified files to criminals who planned on selling them to the highest bidder. So when Ava finds herself on a small plane to meet her friend and deliver the papers, she thought it couldn't get any worse. Right? Well, wrong. Not only did a fight break out on the plane but her plane crashes deep in the jungle. Well luckily for her, she and Rafe survives the crash. Rafe knew that he didn't want to get involved with Ava but like a moth to a flame, he finds himself coming to her rescue. With a new objective of getting out of the jungle alive, Rafe and Ava must work together to survive the elements of the jungle and Rafe's "Godzilla" of a cock. As they battle the elements, will they be able to fight off their strong sexual attraction to each other? Can Rafe ensure the objective of his mission and secure the safety of Ava ? Will Ava be able to persuade this mercenary hitman to help her rescue her best friend?

#lasthope1

The sexual chemistry of Rafe and Ava was so tangible and palpable from the start. With strong sexual attraction illuminating in the air and elements of nature forcing these two to work together for survival, it was only a matter of time till things begins to heats up between them. I loved how the authors were able to showcase this strong bond and united front by incorporating a little humor, fun, and raw emotions within the story-line. When we think of mercenary hitman, we often associate them as being standoffish, a brute, a domineering alpha male, and lack of emotions. But with Rafe Mendoza, we get to see a whole different side to this mercenary hitman. As Ava strips down the walls surrounding Rafe's heart, we get to see a gentle, soft, and fearful side to him. I loved that Ava is not afraid of Rafe but embraces his flaws and his massive Godzilla.

#lasthope2

As always, Jessica and Jen intricately weaves a sexy romantic suspense that is filled with unexpected surprises, drama, hot sexual tension, action, humor and of course lots of giant steamy moments that will have you imagining Rafe's "Godzilla." So if you are looking for a book that is filled with passion, lust, love, suspense, fourberie, and hope then I recommend you to read this book. All in all, it is another hit for Jessica Clare and Jen Frederick!!!

Besides the fact that Mendoza showed up for a tiny bit in book 2, this book seems completely out of place in this series. You could actually read this without reading the other books and be fine. He's also the least hitman and murderous seeming of all the guys, which is disappointing. I'm not reading a hitman series to read about precious bunny personality type dudes. Sigh.

Ava is in Lima being a courier for a bad dude because he threatened to kill her BFF if she didn't, never mind that the BFF is dating the bad dude. Very stupidly, Ava does everything the bad guys say and gets knocked around for it, but not raped due to her heterochromia. Thank your melanin stars that it doesn't work properly in both eyes, girl.

While Ava is doing the courier thing, Rafe Mendoza is surveiling her with is crew because he's being blackmailed into getting the info she's selling before it's sold or else a member of his crew will die. Some stuff happens, Ava and Rafe are on a plane that crashes in the jungle and have to survive it together like an episode of Bear Grylls, cuz you know, nothing but airplane debris to use to help them in the Amazon jungle that's full of snakes, mosquitoes, caimans, jaguars, etc. Lots of ways to die in the jungle that aren't related to malaria and gangrene. Luckily for Ava, Rafe is ex-military and trained in how to survive all those sort of fun things and make a lean to in half an hour. Yay for survivalist training. Btw, there are also multiple threats seeking to kill Ava and Rafe, along with stealing the info back she has been couriering around.

The romance is awkward because Rafe has a giant dong that Ava refers to as Godzilla and he's super sensitive about it. Like giant pimple on your nose sensitive and self conscious about it. He's also not experienced, so he's the opposite of how most guys with a wrecking ball of a dong would be - they'd be boasting and commissioning bronze impressions of it, Rafe, he's hiding it and trying to forget he even has a massive one + lots and lots of guilt and shame from childhood. Even with all this going on, they manage to have some smutty times together cuz Ava thinks he's super hot and isn't scared of Godzilla.

I found the entire plot about saving her idiot friend to be stupid on Ava's part. I didn't mind her character, but I hated how it was all about Rose, like there was nothing outside of her life but Rose. That's dumb, read a book, make more friends, woman. I also wasn't a super fan of this book because it wasn't very hitman like compared to the others. Rafe felt more paramilitary or ex-military than anything, not hitman-esque. Nor did his story connect to that of the other guys in this series. I'd like the Russians back, please.

All in all, this is a 2.5 stars book if I count it as part of this series, if not, it's a 3 stars.

I delayed reading this book because of all the mixed reviews. I love this series but the last book was not a favorite. But I am now glad I read this one.

Yes there was way too much focus on the size of his dick. Ava thought about it constantly. The sex actually came pretty late in the book, which annoyed me. Rafe was surprisingly still naive about human physiology and still damaged by his mothers abuse.

Aside from those things, I still really enjoyed the story. Rafe was so besotted with Ava. It was cute. His need to protect her was sweet. Although the martyr thing got old. If Ava was not so sexually experienced and confident they would have never gotten anywhere. Good thing she did not let him push her away.

I hope this series continues. Mostly because I want to see Daisy and Nik have a baby. But I also think this writing duo produces something special.

Let me start by saying that Daniel and Regan are my absolute favorite couple of this series. Their book sucked me in from the beginning and I couldn't put it down to the last word. I have reread their book several times and have loved it just as much as the first time I read it. The reason I brought this up is because IMO I think this author is capable of awesome, unfortunately Last Hope which is Rafe and Ava's story was terrible. I thought the whole story line focusing on the size of his penis was utterly ridiculous and it ruined the book for me. I'm sorry but I couldn't get pass the whole Godzilla thing or Ava's super vagina that was able to save the day because of love. She was able to do what no woman could do in all his years not even paid prostitutes. Add in some cheesy action and a sappy ending and that was it. I'm still not ready to give up on this author because like I said I'm still waiting for my next Daniel and Regan so I will give the next book a try.

What the fuck was this? This book should be titled 'Ava and the Giant Penis.'

I swear, Rafe's dick was mentioned about a million times. Ava called it such sweet names like "Godzilla" and "Monster." If you keep comparing it to a baseball bat then that's how big I'm gonna imagine it and that shit ain't cute! I love how authors need such crazy, far-fetched ideas to make their H a virgin.

Everything else was a disappointment as well. A stupid plot that I did not care for. Ava is trying to save her best friend but we haven't met this girl and the authors don't show us anything to give us an emotional connection to her. I did not care for Rose at all.

Rafe was annoying with his brooding over his big dick and constant pushing away. He's trying to save his friend and again, I did not care for his friend because there just wasn't enough information on him to make me invested. Rafe wasn't "caveman" enough for me either. Offering to bring in his friend into bed b/c of his insecurities. Sending her into a dangerous situation where she gets shot. Leaving her right after she woke up after recovering from shot. Letting his friends ogle her almost naked body. Pusssyyy.

I need to start by saying I barely remember Rafe Mendoza from the prior books. He was a pretty minor character. I do not believe Ava was mentioned at all, and if she was, I missed it!

I found this last book to be the funniest in the series. I also found the writing to be a little different. Ava was a hand model who found herself trying to rescue her best friend from mob boss Duvall who is holding her hostage.

The adventure between Ava and Rafe reminded me of Six Days, Seven Nights with Anne Heche and Harrison Ford. It was survival in the jungle, where romance also bloomed. Ava wasn't as prima donna as I expected but I loved the jokes about Rafe's male member. It was just too funny. Godzilla, the monster etc. Hilarious.

The plot was okay, but the gradual relationship between Ava and Rafe, where they were able to provide a new lease of life for each other was a clincher for me. I like how the authors made each book different. Each heroine had their own quirks, their own personality and I never felt like I was reading the same book again. In addition, I appreciate it when authors don't add gratuitous sex scenes. Even though there was a good amount of sex talk, it worked for the book.

The adventure, sex, and eventual defeat of Duvall's cartel made this series one of the more enjoyable Romantic suspense series I have read in a long time.

I love this series. I'm a huge suspense fan so when I was invited to review this book I jumped on it! Last Hope is a stand alone.

Mendoza is a pretty hot book boyfriend. He's drawn to Ava while watching her during a surveillance job. He's looking for clues to help him find his friend. Ava left her hotel room and he tasked himself with the job of following her. Soon he found himself sitting down at a coffee shop with him and instead of questioning her or looking for signs/clues to what she was up to he's more concerned with making sure she's eaten and is okay.
Soon he finds himself on a plane with her and it's going down. They survive of course but what happens after that is crazy. All Ava wanted to do was help her friend but now she finds herself dependent on Rafe Mendoza.
The suspense and twists and turns in this had me steeling moments in my day to read this story. I'm always in awe of a book that is co-written. I don't know if I could ever do something like that because I'd be worried my style and my co-authors styles might be too different. However, with these two authors you can't pick up on anything like that. They suck you in and you find you've lost hours from reading.

I was riveted throughout this story. A must read for sure!

I have enjoyed the Hitman series since the beginning with its dangerous and charming anti heroes and intelligent lively heroines who always seem to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. The dark action packed suspenseful story lines always blend well with the lush romances, vivid intense descriptions, and engaging dialogue. As with all the Hitman books, the main characters are all connected to one another though a soft arc but all the books can be read as stand alone’s.

Last Hope brings to the forefront a secondary character that has been alluded to throughout the series-Rafe Mendoza. A Colombian native, Rafe grew up in abject poverty to a religiously fanatic mother who abused him. His childhood shaped him into the man he is now a mercenary with a huge heart. It’s this huge heart that helped him to create Tears of God; an island where he provides sanctuary for those in need. He has some issues, one of which is rather LARGE and becomes the focus of this story. And that is where my problems with the story started.

Last Hope was not what I expected. While the story is well written; Clare and Frederick are talented writers and no matter the storyline, their voices and skills are a strong force to be reckoned with, there was a silliness to the story, especially the romance, that seemed to come out of left field. This series is normally dark and gritty. Violence is the norm of the series that up until now revolved around the mysterious Bratva. Going into this installment I expected the same and more. The beginning starts out promising. Mendoza has been conducting surveillance on the woman who holds the key to the release of one of his team members who was kidnapped. He is attracted to her; so much so he has become very protective of her and is hard pressed not to blow the his mission.

Ava is a hand model who has the misfortune of being best friends with a runway model who hooked up with a very bad man. Ava is sent pictures of her best friend that hint at her being tortured. In order to save her friend, she is forced into muling information to various people. Smart and funny, Ava has no second thoughts about jumping into the unknown to do everything she can to get her friend back alive, even at the expense of her own safety.

The beginning drops us down right into the middle of the action, then slowly backtracks, using narrative switches between Mendoza and Ava to show us what got them to this point and to give us insights to their personalities and backgrounds while setting up the basis for the plot.

The excitement of the series is evident with its witty dialogue, fast pacing, and strong character dynamics. The hints of violence and the possibility of the darkness that usually permeate this series looks to be on the horizon but then things change. The pentacle is reached when Ava and Mendoza are stranded together in the Amazon when their plane goes down. Here are two people in the middle of a jungle with barely any food, clothing, water, etc…and the focus zeroes in on Mendoza’s penis.

Yes, you read that right.

His penis.

Apparently his penis the biggest penis Ava has ever seen. We are talking baseball bat big. Maybe even wiffle bat big. In fact, it’s apparently so huge and imposing, Ava nicknames it Godzilla. She makes it her mission, in between trying not to die, to get intimate with it. Between the dialogue and over the top dramatics, I felt like I was reading the script for an 80’s romance action flick with a healthy dose of soft cheesy porn.

Unfortunately, this particular plot line becomes a major force in the book. More than half of the book focuses on Mendoza’s penis, his issues surrounding it, and Ava trying to help him overcome these issues. It was humorous at first but then the repetitive nature had me wondering when we would get back to the story at hand. For me the book went downhill after that. My enjoyment of Ava and Mendoza (they had such fabulous chemistry and banter) couldn’t overcome my befuddlement over this aspect. Penisgate completely takes over. The original main conflict, the mystery and suspense surrounding the arms deal and it’s players, is downplayed into second place and presented almost as an afterthought with a few action scenes and explanations coming at us hard and fast towards the end. Even Ava’s insulation into Mendoza’s life permanently as a member of his Tears of God group has an air of unbelievability to it in the way she is maneuvered into staying.

While I have enjoyed every previous book in this series and will continue to read whatever else this writing duo produces, this particular installment didn’t do much for me.

I have gushed over this series book after book so, of course, I couldn't wait to get my hands on Last Hope. Obviously I went in with high expectations and I'm sad to say that even though I enjoyed this one, I didn't love it as much as the first three books in the series.

I have to admit, after reading a few early reviews I was a little wary going into this one... I mean, according to some of those reviews, Rafe's peen was basically a main character in this book, and I wasn't really sure how that was going to work for me. That being said, I honestly didn't think it was that big of a deal. I mean, yes it was a pretty big focus throughout most of the book but if I saw what looked like a baseball bat in some dude's pants I'd probably be pretty fascinated with it myself, am I right, ladies?!?!

Cockzilla aside, my reason for not enjoying this one as much as the rest of the books in this series was the relationship itself. Rafe and Ava are thrown into a pretty precarious situation, which causes them to rely on each other and ends up strengthening their bond pretty quickly... Unfortunately, after they left the Amazon I had a hard time feeling that connection between them anymore. Not only does Rafe put Ava in a very dangerous situation, which is a big no-no when it comes to possessive heroes, but then as soon as she's better he's pushing her away again. And where was the heartfelt apology and gratitude when he realized that she didn't leave him after all?!

Luckily, Last Hope still had the action and adventure that I've come to expect from this series and that made up for my issues with the romance. We have plane crashes and gun fights, wild jungle animals, and, of course, Ava's main mission of rescuing her friend, Rose... All of which kept me on the edge of my seat and turning the pages with superspeed to find out what would happen next.

Even though I didn't love this one as much as the rest of the books in this series, it is still by no means a bad read... I was just hoping for a little more. That being said, I'm not sure if there's still more to come with this series or not but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there will be at least one more book... Or ten!

This is the second book in the series that I've had the pleasure of reading. This book was sizzling with the characters' escapades!
Ava is trying to protect her best friend Rose. That is the reason why she is in the hands of some very dangerous people who use her as a mule. Duval is her captor but he is also Rafe's main target.
Rafe is a mercenary and quite infamous for his huge success. He is also very inexperienced in the bedroom despite his 35 years of age. When he sees Ava, his world is turned upside down. When they are forced to survive together, Rafe will realise that there is more to Ava than he originally thought. She is the one for him.
The book is very intimate and has some pretty intense scenes.
The story was interesting but I must admit that it was missing something to make it fully enjoyable for me. For one, I wanted less focus on Rafe's memorable size and more info about Ava and Rose. I think some parts were not developed properly but I did like Ava's strong personality.
It was a good read but I think it had potential to be great.

I've had enough of throbbing godzilla dicks and inappropriate erection. The characters are stranded in the Amazon forest for fuck's sake and all that I was reading is the hero's dick?

description

The story is ridiculous and so far different from the previous books in the series. I was more interested in wild animals trying to kill the main characters than their sex life. So the story is, this Rafe guy has gigantic porno like dick and he killed a girl once during sex because *snap fingers* his family jewel is so big it can cause painful death.

Is this hentai or what?

Then of course, there's the twit of a heroine who keeps on insisting that the sexual tension between her and the hero would be gone if they would just have sex. I gotta say, terrific logic, genius.

I may liek the first three books of the Hitman series but I regret to say that this book put the series in a bad light for me. The authors should have stopped with the third book. If they did that, then such an embarrassment to the contemporary romance genre wouldn't have been written.

I mean, just look at this.

I've no clue where we are and we have no supplies, but I've never been happier than when Ava stuck her tits in my face.

Let the eye-rolling commence.

This book was frigging hot! I only read book number 1 in the series and enjoyed it but once I read the blurb for this book I knew I had to read it. Our hero is a 35 year old sexy as shit virgin with a massive dick! Umm yes please!

So this book is centred around Eva who is being used by her friends dangerous boyfriend to carry around dangerous information. Eva is doing this only to help her friend as they will kill her if she doesn't cooperate.

Then we have mister big dick Raffael Mendoza who's friend has been taken hostage by the government and in order to get him back his got to steal the information the beautiful Eva has with her. Rafe is instantly attracted to Eva and these two have some sizzling chemistry when they clash it's so damn hot!

When Rafe can't help but introduce himself to Eva which lands her in a whole heap of shit. She's shipped away on the next flight and next destination but the plane crashes and they she ends up in the Amazon jungle with Rafe. Let's just say we have some sexy as hell, dirty jungle scenes!

I found this book the perfect mixture of suspense, halarious and sexy the perfect combination in my eyes :) definitely a must read for anyone looking for something interesting, funny and sexy

This one seemed to stray from the rest of the series and have a really different feel to it. There was stuff I liked and stuff I didn't *cough* hearing about Rafe's big dick every five seconds *cough*
I'm assuming that if there are more books in the series they will probably be about the rest of the guys on the island so I'll probably give them a try. I'm hoping that this one was just a fluke and the next goes back to being 5 star reads.

*4.35* There are many things I loved about this book, so let me get what I did not like out of the way first.

* Rafe's "problem" was dragged out too long
* The ending felt a bit flat

But ... but ... but ...this book kept me riveted from the beginning. I love it when the plot moves forward and not in circles. I was a bit apprehensive because stories that happen in a jungle do not normally appeal to me. Somehow, it worked here. Rafe was an endearing hero. And he is my favorite kind, a badass—with many opportunities shown just how badass he was—yet when it comes to the heroine, he is pussy-whipped. ;) Rafe's problem came up a lot ... LoL, that was a bad pun, and I can see how this might irritate some readers, however it worked for me for the most part because Ava was just so funny about it. And thank god Ava was no virginal heroine. I've read too much of those lately and this is refreshing. She wasn't a slut either, but is really what Rafe needed. There was plenty of action to break up the sexual tension. The plot centered on Rafe and Ava's journey, how they were able to survive against the elements and the people after them, and how they became what each other needed in the process. Rafe lacked some confidence of a typical alpha male but given his background I find him also refreshing. Besides his badass-ness made up for it.

Ava Samson is on a mission to save her only “family” Rose. She will do everything in her power to a find her and keep her safe; including risking her own life through every turn the book makes. Rafael Mendoza is a Hitman that is hell bent to save one of his own. When his paths cross with Ava’s he is instantly turned on and has feelings he never has had for a woman before. Should he risk the life of his brother for this woman, or leave her to own? Or, is there a way that he can do both at the same time?

Going through the jungle, trying to survive, I feel myself, through the amazing web of words that is weaved, as Ava. I feel myself clutching onto Rafael. The magic of her words takes me out of my house and places me squarely into the magic that is created in Lost Hope. I feel the hope, despair, fear, love and lust through every word. Watching the push and pull of these two, battling demons from their past together in places they never saw themselves, the reader is pulled in. The plot and twists and turns throughout the whole read keeps you on your seat and guessing for more! This is one book that once you start it, you won’t want to put it down!

This lacks the magic of the first three in the series, but it's still an enjoyable read. The price for this book is outrageous though, and I waited more than a year for it to come down or appear at the library. Eventually, I gave up and asked Santa to foot the bill. Thanks, Santa! (aka Mom)

It was with relish that I picked up this latest installment from the Hitman series (oh please, please, let there be more). These books are something else with their anti-heroes can be more villain than the bad guys, sizzling hot romances, gritty and dark plots, and in depth development of characters. I would have never thought these would be my thing, but I've enjoyed them all.

This one is book four and includes the story of Rafe Mendoza who first made an appearance in book two, Last Breath. He was an enigmatic character and I was glad to get more of his story. These books can be read out of order, particularly this one which is more loosely connected, but there are connections between the books that make more sense when read in order.

The story opens with Rafe and some of his men keeping surveillance on an American woman in a hotel across the street. Rafe's good friend, Davidson, is being held by the US government in return for his cooperation in stealing the secrets that a wealthy French crook, Duvall is planning to sell on the black market. His plan is to steal the papers from this Ava who is being coerced by Duvall to be his 'mule'. Ava has some samples to show the legitimacy of Duvall's sale and meets with each prospective buyer individually. There are a few more buyers to go and then the sale will start. Rafe has to succeed grabbing what the government wants for his buddy's sake Rafe tries not to think of what will happen to Ava and her friend, Rose, who is being held hostage by Duvall to keep Ava cooperative, when she no longer has the papers. Watching her day in and day out, the way she hides her fear and shows such spunk in the face of Duvall's thugs and the danger she is in brought grudging respect and then attraction. He wants to be close to her and he uses the valid excuse of going for the files she has.

Ava will do everything she can to get Rose back alive. They have been friends and together since childhood. She deplores Rose's choice in men that got them into this mess and she hates the slimy men that work for Duvall and get off on smacking her around and lusting over her. But she will put up with it to save her friend, if she can. Then things start happening fast when a darkly handsome Rafe Mendoza enters her life. She suspects he wants the papers she was given and told that they would mean Rose's life, but she can't stop the attraction she feels for the dark, broody man. Through a series of events, they end up being plane crash survivors and it is Rafe she must depend on to get them out of the Amazon jungle alive. Only, will he really help her in the end and why won't he act on the interest that flares between them?

Alright, as has been the case in previous stories, Rafe is a whole lot more than he seems as Ava learns. I love how the authors present a character and then peel back layers to reveal the person slowly. Ava is fairly straight forward as a buxom, bubbly, and bungling girl who pretty much says what she thinks (generally without a filter or thought for the repercussions) and acts impulsively. She isn't stupid, but she's not complex either. Now, Rafe is really her opposite. He is a product of his upbringing and his harsh life. He is careful what he says and controlled in his actions. He works hard to suppress his feelings, too. I found the interactions between these two sometimes painful, sometimes humorous, heartwarming, and many times just plain hot.

Yeah, this one has some exciting moments and some jungle survivor stuff, but a great deal of it is two horny people in heat, sometimes resisting and sometimes giving into the flaming passion that is dirty and raw most of the time. If you think I jest, Rafe's unusually huge penis could have been a starring character as much page time as it got. I think Ava's mind was on it for over 50 pages straight, but to be fair Rafe thought his physical size kept him from being with a woman so his mind was on the monster in his pants, too. This much attention to his penis wasn't my thing and I wanted things to move on, but I can also see both the humor, frustration, and even past hurt because of it. I'll focus on the humor with one quote so you get an idea of what I mean:

Mendoza just holds me like there's no place he'd rather be.
And as I'm pressed against him, ignoring the throb in my bad arm, I feel something pressing against my lower belly that's not a hand. Mendoza's aroused at my wet body pushing against him. Okay, that's probably my fault. I'm fine with that.
But it reminds me just how freaking big his equipment is. It's not something I should be noticing in a life-or-death situation. It's not. But when a guy's got something like a Maglite stuffed down his pants?
You sort of freaking notice, no matter the situation.
Actually, Maglite might not be big enough. More like wine bottle.

p. 75 Ava from Last Hope

So, this one leans toward the erotic storyline more than the suspense, but it does bring the characters on a journey of understanding and growth. It won't be my favorite of the series, but it was definitely an engaging enough story. Those who can appreciate an assassin anti-hero, a lust-crazed heroine, an adventure in the jungle, and some intense moments both romantic and suspense with the balance toward erotic romance, should give this one a go.

My thanks to Penguin Group for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Another Hitman book? Yes please : When I finished the last book, I’d wondered where the series would go next, since it felt like it was closing a chapter on the original overarching storyline. When I saw that the Tears of God, a group introduced in Last Breath, reappears to pick up where the original group left off, I was as giddy as a schoolgirl with a new boy band CD.

When the story begins, Rafael Mendoza and his crew are following Ava, who’s been roped into being a mule for a nasty criminal to show buyers some documents for a potential auction, though we’re not sure what it is. The story has the usual action and danger you’d expect in a Hitman book, but with a fantastic amount of sex that wasn’t present in the last book.

Rafe is fantastic...ly huge : Now let’s face it, most romance novels love to emphasize the size of the hero’s package, but here, Rafe’s has a monster of epic proportions (Ava calls it Godzilla), something I haven’t read about before. Like possibly life threatening and vagina-damaging.

description

There’s enough discussion of Rafe’s penis to make any size queen clench in joy. But it’s anything but joyful for Rafe. As a matter of fact, he’s been tortured his whole life, told by his horrible mother that he’s the devil’s spawn and that his cock is the reason for all the evils of the world, from global warming to Donald Trump.

When women literally fear his penis, well I could understand that it’s given him a complex and his sexual experience is limited, to say the least. When the first hints arrived as exactly how inexperienced he was, to say I was shocked would be an understatement. I mean, a 35 year old almost-virgin mercenary is pretty incredible. However, it somehow worked. It gave him a vulnerable and incredibly sympathetic edge that had me panting to snuggle him...and defile him.

Ava’s a mother hen heroine : You know the type - the one who has to save her friend, who takes care of everything, even to her own detriment. That’s Ava to a T. She sacrifices herself to be a mule when her best friend Rose’s boyfriend reveals himself to be the nasty scumbag he is and threatens to kill Rose if she doesn’t. She’s flying by the seat of her pants through most of the book, and it would be easy to make a complete damsel in distress but she pulls her weight when the occasion calls for it and she knows when to hold on, no matter how noble Rafe’s trying to be.

Maybe too much sex? : Before you slap me, I didn’t mind it and actually loved Rafe and Ava’s relationship. However, the focus on Rafe and his sexual experience and monster cock was a bit of a distraction and for the most part, the action is definitely secondary to the romance and sex. Even a bit implausible in life or death situations where the last thing I’d be thinking of is sex.

When I think back to the actual suspense, it didn’t feel like it really came into play until very late in the game, and even then it kind of ends with a whimper not a bang. Well, except for Ava and Rafe, who were banging like a screen door in a hurricane. Since the romance is what brings me to the party, it (mostly) worked for me, but if you’re looking for an intricate plotline, it wasn’t the strongest in that respect.

description
I really enjoyed Rafe and Ava’s romance, even if the suspense part of plot itself was a mite thin. That said, the setup for future books with the Tears of God group has me intrigued. I’m eager to see what happens next.
