At the end of the day, I'm the kind of Dom who prefers to do one thing above all: get in your head and own you."

Heart-pounding action, nail-biting suspense and sizzling hot BDSM romance, it just doesn't get any better than that. Shayla Black delivers yet another winner in her 10th book of her Wicked Lovers series. Sinfully sexy and filled with enough action to keep you at the edge of your seat, Wicked For You definitely delivered on the promise of it's title.

While this is book 10 in the series, each one can easily be read as a standalone. I love that the author does that all while including all my favorite characters from previous books while allowing new readers to experience her books without being confused. Truth be told I was a little hesitant about reading this one after being slightly underwhelmed with the previous book, but this series is like crack to me so I had to dive in....and I enjoyed the hell out of it! I'd say after Belong to Me, this may be my second favorite in the series.
This woman dragged him into a need that sucked him under like quicksand. The more he fought for control, the less he had.

Mystery Mullins is the daughter to one of the most renowned hollywood directors, who's reputation as a womanizer is just as infamous. She's used to media attention, but the only attention she truly craves is from a man that turned her down after saving her life six years ago.

Axel Dillon never forgot the beauty that he rescued from a kidnapper six years ago. But she was vulnerable and only 18 then. Now when she comes to him in disguise and tilts his world on it's axis once he figures out who she really is, it's fair game and it's definitely game on.
You want to know what I'm going to do to you?"
"Yes, Axel."
"Steal your control.

I love that the author takes you back in time to show the reader exactly what happened between these two all those years ago. It only serves to strengthen the connection to both the characters as well as the connection between them. I love me a sexy Dom that can kick some ass and then spank it. What? I'm being honest here. Axel is a hero that you'll definitely fall for. Mystery was a great heroine in her own right. She may be inexperienced in the brand of kink that Axel likes, but she's no blushing virgin. If you're not a fan of hardcore BDSM, rest easy, there's no whips or chains in this one. Axel is kinky, but it's light on the BDSM. A little spanking here, a little bondage there. Mix, repeat, end with orgasms.

The only thing that kept this from being a 5 star read for me was the ending. It was just a little much for me to suspend disbelief on. Maybe it was because I built it up a little more in my head, but whatever the case may be I just had a tough time believing it. However, it did bring all the details and clues together nicely, so I can't complain too much. If you're looking for a sexy romantic suspense with a little kink on the side, you can't go wrong with this one.

4 Kidnap and Save Me Stars

Wicked for You is a standalone and is part of the Wicked Lovers series. I’m a mega fan of Shayla Black. I just love her books. I feel like she hits all the right spots when I’m in that kind of mood.

You can read this series out of order and that is how I did it. Call me crazy, but I like to skip around. Wicked for You is Axel and Mystery’s story.

I love the way Wicked for You starts and I usually don’t like foreshadowing. The story starts in the middle of the book and it’s okay, really. Mystery is trying to pick up Axel at a bar. She’s dressed differently and she has confidence and yes, even game. Axel smells something fishy, like he knows this girl is hiding something, but he doesn’t care because he wants to hook up with her.

Then we rewind years before and we get the true story on how and when Mystery and Axel meet.

Mystery is kidnapped. She’s young, scared and doesn’t understand why. Her kidnapper takes a vile of her blood and visits her daily to provide food. Axel saves Mystery days later. Mystery is so taken by Alex she wants sexy fun times with him.

I’m totally into this. I love me a damsel in distress storyline and I like that Mystery is young and impressionable. Axel wants Mystery, but she’s young and he doesn’t need that, so he declines.

Well, Mystery obviously is still hung-up because it’s years later and she seeks Axel out for a one night stand.

Don’t you love that storyline!!!!

I like that Mystery is tough and now older, but she still has a lot to learn. Axel is a dominate and he likes women a certain way in bed. I love my dominate alpha males! As Mystery and Axel get to know each other, there is still the mystery of who kidnapped her and if she is truly out of danger.

I like the suspenseful feel of the read and it kept me on my toes.

If you like this series, you will not be disappointed.

Sultry suspense! Pulse pounding passion twined with edgy suspense. Wicked for You was one seriously hot, heavy and exciting ride!

The quick of it is that years ago Mystery was kidnapped and during a harrowing journey to safety she managed to get herself all hung up on the man who saved her life. (seriously can't blame a girl because Axel...dayum!) Anyways. Once his job was over they went their separate ways and for years the thoughts of him have driven her crazy and she's ready to do something about it. She's gonna hunt him down and see what he can do between the sheets. *noms* Too bad that quickie fling is soon interrupted by bad guys out to finish what they started all those years ago. Mmhm. No worries though. Hot hunky hero...ready to defend the woman who's haunted his thoughts all these years too.

These two sizzled! Axel is ALL Dom and one hella sexy alpha male. Totally lickable and hands down a hero to his very soul. He's got that dark little edge of being a Dom but is incredibly caring and gentle too. Yums all around, people. Yums all around. And Mystery. She had me wanting to pinch her a couple times but overall chickie was damn impressive. When life got hellish she persevered and fought to survive. She's no wilting flower. Hallelujah!

Now the heat. *sucks in a breath* Oh yeah. The heat was excellent. Make a girl gasp and all kinds of lovely places tingle. From the second they met 6 years earlier they just had that zing that was so delicious to watch. Even when surrounded by danger they had a connection that just radiated between them.Whew! Hot, heavy and utterly swoon-worthy.

The suspense was really nicely done too. Just enough to have you curious and keep things interesting. I didn't figure things out until nearly the end which...love when that happens. It was exciting and nerve wracking and kept me enthralled.

All in all, a fine read from Black. If you love some wicked heat with your suspense this is a series not to miss. It'll have you panting for all the right reasons.

WICKED FOR YOU is the tenth book in the Wicked Lovers series. The thing I loved about this series was that it integrated some suspense along with the more erotic side. The action definitely added something extra to the stories but I also think that as the series goes on, it’s getting harder and harder to come up with realistic situations that the author can put her characters in.

Mystery Mullins yearns for the man who once saved her from her dangerous kidnappers. Now, years later, she still isn’t able to forget Axel Dillon. Despite the flourishing career she has for herself in, she disguises herself and looks for Axel in a bar, propositioning him like she has always dreamed of.

Axel doesn’t remember her but after a night of unforgettable passion, he’s starting to wonder where he may know her from. The whole premise of this story is a little far fetched for my liking. The fact that Axel doesn’t even remember her, even with a disguise, makes me wonder how they can have such a connection on Mystery’s part that lasts years and years when he doesn’t even know who she is. It takes away some of the romance although I will say that I enjoyed Axel’s character for the most part.

Axel stays true to Shayla Black’s style. He’s intense, protective and hella sexy. He was definitely my favorite part of this book. Mystery, on the other hand, I was a little hot and cold over. She has some very admiring qualities about her but then sometimes I felt that her actions seemed to come out of nowhere sometimes and that really took me out of the story. I wasn’t 100% sold on her motivations but I understand that to make a story like this work, Mystery had to be the one to take initiative. It just wasn’t my favorite in the series.

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales

Quick & Dirty: Mystery has been in love with Axel since he rescued her from being kidnapped, now this time with a disguise she will make him hers.

Opening Sentence: “Mystery Mullins had finally had enough.”

The Review:

Mystery has decided that in order to get over her feelings for Axel she has to sleep with him. So she shows up at a club, where she knows he will be in a disguise and immediately asks him for sex. When they return to his house she flashes back to how they met. Axel was one of a military team that was hired by her father to rescue her when she was kidnapped. After a few harrowing days after their escape she is firmly in love with him, but he turns her down and they go their separate ways.

After a memorable encounter with Axel, Mystery takes off and returns to the hotel. When she gets out of the shower she finds a note telling her to return to England or else. Axel is stunned when he returns and finds “Elise” gone. He knows that isn’t her real name and when a friend mentions that Mystery is in town he looks up her pictures on TMZ and realizes she is the one he just had sex with. When he shows up at her hotel, she tells him about the note and they make plans to keep her safe.

Axel begins to dig into her past, and realizes that her mother’s death may have more to do with the present than anyone originally realized. As the mystery begins to unfold will Axel be able to save her and prove his love or will they be torn apart by lies and the past.

I haven’t read any of the other books in this series, but since I didn’t feel lost on any level it’s safe to guess you can read all or just the ones you are interested in. I had some moments with this book, the back and forth with Axel and Mystery was getting a little old, although now in hindsight it was probably a plot to throw you off the scent of the mystery that was central to the story line. Axel and Mystery were both a bit damaged by their pasts and that made them totally likable. I will say there is some light BDSM in this book, but nothing over the top or Fifty Shades of Grey.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book, the mystery really was interesting and engaging. Bonus, I was totally shocked by all in involved, even though I could see some of the things. Not all of the pieces were laid out so I couldn’t quite put it all together and that was great, because I was totally there I needed to know what was going on. I had to know how it all would end, and even though romance isn’t my go-to genre anymore, I am interested in reading more by this author!

Notable Scenes:

“The instant chemical attraction she’d felt years ago hadn’t waned in the least.”

“After that, just talking to him had melted her discomfort.”

“It represented the end of childhood, freedom, and in an odd way, innocence.”

“The uncertainty in her hazel eyes got to him, the yearning for love, the crash of desire all struck resonating notes inside him.”

“She’d gone to bed knowing deep in her her heart that the worst had happened.”

FTC Advisory: Berkley/Penguin provided me with a copy of Wicked for You. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

Axel is incensed when he realizes Mystery tricked him but he can’t help being intrigued as well and when a murderer sets out to silence her for good, he’s doesn’t hesitate to become her protector and lover in this wickedly thrilling romantic suspense.

Mystery is still stuck on Axel even after 6 years so sets out to get over him in the only way she can think of…a one night stand and the reader can’t help but become absorbed in the story as the past comes back to haunt Mystery and she turns to the only man who makes her feel safe. The chemistry is red hot and the sex scenes are hot and steamy but the relationship is one hot mess as insecurities and emotional issues has them both trying to run in the opposite direction and Mystery has another love interest that complicates matters as well. These strong compelling characters capture the heart while demanding attention and he fast paced, smooth flowing plot thrills readers with lots of suspense, excitement and romance.

Spine tingling, adrenaline pumping excitement builds throughout the story as the intrigue draws the readers in and the danger escalates with unexpected twists keeping everyone on their toes as Mystery and Axel discover that the danger to her hits closer to home than she ever could have imagined. The well written scenes and details paint vivid images that capture the imagination and make it easy for the reader to picture each and every scenes as it happens while the well-orchestrated events ensure that there is never a dull moment.

Once again, Wicked Lovers is filled with thrills and excitement, sensual delights, fiery passion and sexy characters that readers can’t help but fall in love with. I was completely caught up in Axel and Mystery’s (I just love her name) story from the very beginning and I can’t wait for the next wicked read

I returned to the world of Wicked Lovers after a long drought and was eager to engage with this latest story. I was relieved that even though I've missed several of the latest releases; I was still able to read the story quite easily. That said, I do need to get caught up.

The story opens with Mystery Mullins, daughter of the famous Hollywood director and star Marshall Mullins, back in America for the first time in six years after her kidnapping and rescue. She can't seem to get over the man who rescued her and rejected her eager young love. Oh, she gets why he had to back then, but unfortunately Axel ruined her for other men. But that's about to change hopefully. Mystery has a plan. She will go to him in disguise, proposition him so he will accept, and then she'll discover that he's just a man and get him out of her system.

Axel doesn't know what to make of the woman who inexplicably came on to him at his favorite bar, but she is definitely more than she is saying and there is something familiar about her. She's a hot woman and her submissive nature calls to his dominance. He wants her not to mention she engages his curiosity to discover what she is hiding. Then, he discovers the truth of who it was who slept with him and ran. Mystery Mullins! Unfortunately, once again, she is back in danger and his protective instincts kick in. He will help protect her, but they are going to deal with the Pandora's Box she opened and she'll learn better the kind of man she thought to manipulate.

Alright, this one grabbed my interest from the beginning, but I hesitated when I read part of the blurb. The woman has the not so brilliant plan to scratch an annoying six year old itch and move on with the guy in question none the wiser because she's in disguise. She claims it is to get him out of her system, but it felt like a spoiled girl not getting her way back then and now determined to have it. Axel did the right thing about not taking up her provoking offer because she was the wrong side of twenty and had just gotten out of a situation with a sleazy captor. But in the end, I liked this author's books before and wanted to try her new one, so I did.

Part of me was glad to have read the story because there were some elements that really engaged me, but the part that made me hesitate turned out to be an issue for me.

When it comes to BDSM stories, I need those engaged in it to be mature characters or at least characters of the same maturity. They are engaging in acts that expose a whole lot more than their physical bodies and the trust and communication factors have to be there or someone's going to get hurt possibly physically, psychologically, and/or emotionally.

I brought that up because the heroine left me feeling like she was too young. Her actual age might be mid-twenties, but her cognitive and emotional processes said different. There is of course her half-baked plan to which I referred earlier that didn't bother to consider the fact that she was in essence using a guy who not only put his life on the line for her, but respected her enough not to take advantage of what her naive young hormones were offering up back in the day. Then there is the way she impulsively jumps into action or leaps to conclusions on several occasions. She consults only her own feelings much of the time. I didn't hate her, but with how quickly things got down to it with the sex and romance, with the dangerous situation from her past, and with the way Axel was portrayed as a mature, stable, thinking guy, she didn't work for me as a romance interest in a BDSM erotic romance.

She backed into the chair and crossed her arms over her chest. "What?"
"I'm trying to have a conversation with you, face-to-face, the way adults do. You're making that damn hard when you're pouting."
"Well excuse the hell out of me for being shocked that you could (have sex) with me twice in the last few hours, then look awfully comfortable with another woman in your lap. Do you know how stupid that made me feel? How manipulated and used?"
"And you didn't use me when you picked me up in the bar to scratch your itch? By your own admission, you had zero intention of coming clean with me about your identity or talking to me again."
"We discussed this. I never meant to hurt you. I apologized."
"But I genuinely listened and tried to see your side of the story. Could you extend me the same courtesy?"
His question pricked her with guilt. He had listened. She just kept butting in and sounding like a jealous shrew. "Fine. I'm all ears. What's with you two?"

p. 236 Mystery and Axel from Wicked for You

But past that, I was riveted for the portion of the book that flashed back to that time six years before when Mystery was kidnapped and Axel came to her rescue. It got intense and visceral as they fought to survive in the desert and fought off their enemies. If things could have picked up from there with Mystery being older and wiser and ready for a dominant man like Axel, I probably would have been praising this book to the heavens. As it is, its still pretty good.

The suspense element was the driving agent for much of the plot, but it stayed in the background until near the end. The 'who' question had me pointing fingers in a few directions before I finally got it right. I enjoyed wondering who was behind it all, but I had a pretty good idea at why from early on. I was partially right because, naturally, there was a twist.

The passion between Axel and Mystery took up a large portion of the book. I had to set aside the fact that in reality things happened way too darn fast so I enjoy the sizzling heat between this pair. Mystery soon discovers that she bit off quite a bite when she took on Axel. He's not just a real man as she calls him, but Axel is dominant. He sees her natural submissive tendencies and wants to help her explore that, but he has to deal with the crap going on in her head much of the time so their time together is either lust driven or he has to help her sort through her fears even though she promises to be honest and trust him. The BDSM elements are mild for the most part and involve bondage, spanking, and a few pervertables like clothespins and an interesting use of a cutting board and rice.

He enjoyed her urgency and the closeness of the moment. Someday, he'd make love to Mystery softly and let her touch him at will. Today wasn't that day. Everything inside screamed not only to dominate, but to claim her, to bind her to him with pleasure. Because he still didn't know if she would truly want him when the real world came calling again...But maybe, if he gave Mystery more pleasure than she could manage, when the dust settled with whoever pursued her, none of that would matter.
p. 182-183 Axel from Wicked For You

In summary, it had some strengths that were really enjoyable and some things that took away from that. I found the author's exploration of the repercussion of cheating on a marriage and family and walking away on a marriage and family had far reaching effect especially on the children. The blend of erotic romance and suspense was a nice balance and I have definitely whetted my appetite for more books from this series. Those who enjoy the blend of mild to moderate BDSM and suspense should try this book/series.

My thanks to Penguin Group for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

A passionate, addictive, and sexy whirlwind of an erotic romance that will reach all of your senses and touch every part of your heart. Axel Dillon is one HERO you will never forget!

The Wicked Lovers series always turns me inside out leaving me in an intense state of happiness and contentment. This series seems to get better with each installment. I crave Shayla's writing like no other, and every time I see she is releasing something new, I tend to get giddy like a school girl. I feel like I've been waiting on Axel Dillon's story for a while, when really, it probably hasn't been that long. I just get so enraptured in these character's lives, I yearn for more every time the last page has turned.

Gripping, sensual, and seductive, WICKED FOR YOU will set your e-reader on fire! This author never slacks off in the erotic department, so each sex scene is better than the last. It always starts off so sexy and savage and then after the characters give in to their emotions, it turns tender, loving, but still with a heavy passionate edge that Black does so well.

Mystery Mullins (can I just say, I freaking love that name for a heroine!) is our female lead. Axel Dillon has always been her hero and her fantasy. They live two totally separate lives, and the first time they come into each other's lives, she is too young and innocent for Axel's rough nature. She heads back home to her tabloid lifestyle, but never forgetting the man who saved her body and captured her heart. Years later and she still can't get Axel out of her mind and out of her dreams. So she decides she needs to scratch that itch and finally move on. When Mystery, is a mystery no more, Axel becomes addicted himself. Axel is nobody's hero, but when danger draws near to the woman who still intrigues him, he will stop at nothing to become her protector once again.

With sharp, crisp dialogue and sky-high tension, WICKED FOR YOU will have readers guessing until the very end. Once again, this author gives us a sizzling romance that will stay with us long after the last page has turned. This series and this installment is something I would recommend to every romance reader out there. This was an EASY FIVE STAR READ!

Lara is in her own world with her friends that she trusts with everything. She has a tabloid that she writes but only writes what is truth and after doing her research fully. The thing is that only a few people know this. This is her baby that she writes and express her feelings. Since the post cover powerful people, she keeps herself safe she doesn't use her name. Comes in Connor.

He is a CIA but comes into Lara's life to keep her safe when she starts getting threatening emails. Although, he doesn't tell her the truth, he only has one thing to accomplish and that is getting the information from Lara. His goal is destroying these as he doesn't want these information to hurt the friends he considers family.

What I enjoyed most about Seduction In Session is watching two adults opening themselves up to something different. It takes time for them to get there and to admit feelings they have for each other, to themselves and to others. I loved reading about Connor, an Alpha Male who doesn't do feelings, love, etc... Reading one woman totally strip him bare, to turned his world upside down was perfect! Connor went from badass to a loving adorable and amazing gentleman.

This book is great! I couldn't put it down! I had to know what was going happen between Lara and Connor. If you enjoy books with Alpha Males, with lots of secrets, who demands the truth but not yet truthful himself, loyalty, danger, heartache, happiness, with a great love story then Seduction In Session is a must!

••••••••

REVIEW: 4.25 stars--WICKED FOR YOU is the tenth full length installment in Shayla Black’s contemporary, adult WICKED LOVERS erotic romantic suspense series. Wicked Lovers focuses on a group of former marines, special ops, former police and military men, the women they love and their connection to Dominion BDSM club. This is former army medic and retrieval specialist Axel Dillon, and writer Mystery Mullins‘s storyline. WICKED FOR YOU can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from previous storylines is imparted where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives WICKED FOR YOU is a two-part story that flashes between the present and the past. Six years earlier Mystery Mullins was kidnapped and held prisoner in a deserted warehouse in the Mojave Desert. Mystery’s father and world famous director Marshal Mullins hired Axel Dillon as part of a search and rescue team whose primary focus is on retrieving precious cargo.

On the run for days in the desert with Axel, Mystery finds herself strangely attracted to her gorgeous rescuer who will feature prominently in Mystery’s future fantasies. Axel wants nothing to do with a then nineteen year old Mystery and walks out of her life without a backward glance once she has been handed over to her father. Fast forward six years and Mystery is determined to seduce Axel into a one-night stand- an affair where she is determined to keep her identity a secret fearing another rejection from the man who yet calls to her heart.

Mystery has been living in the UK for six years but a return to America finds our heroine searching for the truth about her mother’s death, and the man who walked away breaking her heart. Mystery’s return to the USA finds our heroine targeted once again, and Axel and Heath Powell (Mystery’s personal bodyguard) become her number one and number two protectors while Mystery continues to search for the truth.

The relationship between Mystery and Axel is a story of second chances-so to speak-as both Axel and Mystery have never forgotten about the few days they spent together following the search and rescue. Axel is a Dominant both in and out of the bedroom, and is an active member at the BDSM Club Dominion. Mystery is aware of Axel’s need to dominate, and with it comes her natural submission to the man with whom she has fallen in love. The $ex scenes are erotic, intimate and a little bit kinky. Axel, like many of the men in the series has issues with disobedience and spanking is his preferred method of discipline.

The Wicked Lovers series of novels are ensemble storylines wherein a number of the previous storybook characters play secondary and supporting roles; most of WICKED FOR YOU focuses on Axel, Mystery, Heath and Mystery’s Aunt Gail Leedy. Sean, Thorpe (Dominion Club owner and head Dom) and Callie (Theirs to Cherish #8) have cameo appearances for cohesion and history as well as Javier and Xander (Ours to Love #7) and Joaquin Munoz (His To Take #9).

WICKED FOR YOU is a suspense filled story focusing on uncovering the truth behind Mystery’s mother’s death, and the possible connection to Mystery’s abduction and her mother’s past. WICKED FOR YOU is a fast paced and animated storyline. The characterization is presented through description narratives and indirectly through the thoughts and action of the leading couple. A several chapter-long flashback reveals Mystery and Axel’s introduction to one another and what precipitated Mystery’s heartbreak and sorrow creating the building blocks upon which the present day storyline will focus. The conflict revolves around lies, secrets and deep-seated family dysfunction; the requisite evil is a two-fold twist to the storyline.

Wicked for You by Shayla Black was a mysterious, sexy, fun story!

Mystery Mullins is in love with Axel Dillion. The love doesn’t wane just because of time or distance. Years later, after moving to London, Mystery returns to the US to take care of family business and see Axel…

Let me say, this book was anything but predictable. Mystery was bit of a mystery and so was Axel. I certainly fell in love with him from the beginning. Mystery was a strong, young female who, even though she was a bit lost, seemed to be able to take care of herself. Axel was insanely hot, driven and knew what he wanted, especially in the bedroom. Mystery was willing to learn more about those kinks in order to be with Axel.

I love that Shayla writes books that keep me hot, bothered and on the edge of my seat. I couldn’t figure out the whodunit early, and that kept me reading as fast as I can. Wicked for You is a page turner for sure! ~ Heather, 5 stars

~~~
Six years ago, Axel Dillon rescued Mystery Mullins from her kidnappers only to steal her heart in the process. Too young and too vulnerable, Axel returned Mystery safely to her Hollywood father and Hollywood lifestyle. But neither forgot the other.
Six years later, under dubious circumstances, Mystery is determined to get Axel in her bed, if only for one night. One night of passion so she can hopefully forget him and move on. But when her past comes back to haunt her, Mystery finds herself unable to walk away—and neither will Axel.
Axel never forgot the beautiful girl he rescued in the desert. But knowing she was just too young, he couldn’t take advantage of her, no matter how much he wanted her. Now, after finding out the mysterious redhead who left his bed wasn’t just some random encounter, Axel will let nothing get in his way from claiming Mystery once and for all. Especially now that her life is in danger—again. He’s not leaving her side…even when she tries to leave him.
Wow. Just wow. Dominant, alpha men just do it for me—Axel ticks off all the boxes. I love how he’s able to get right down to the heart of the matter and delve deep into Mystery’s head. He’s the ideal Dominant and boyfriend. Mystery is a strong heroine too. She’s not afraid to go after what she wants, she’s just not quite sure what to do with Axel once she has him.
Neither one have had the best role models for relationships. But they sure do get each other “in between the sheets” and those sheets are smokin’ when they’re done. I love this series. I can’t get enough of them. When is the next one releasing? ~ Missy, 5 stars
Wow this was a fun read! I loved how Ms. Black melded the BDSM romance seamlessly into the exciting story. I never once felt that anything was forced. Her characters had a nice depth to them so that you cared and became vested into the dangerous mystery. And that mystery kept me guessing through the whole book. I’ll add that I’m not always a fan of the ‘go back in time reminiscing’ but that was a great story in itself that added so much to the book. This book had it all; scorching hot romance, danger, intrigue and mystery. It covered all my wants.
DNF pg 305. Heroine is childish and immature, lame love triangle plot and the main plot is boring.
Oh gosh! where to start?
Well let's get to this. I want to first start out by saying thank you to not only to Enticing Book Journeys for letting me be on this tour and arranging for my lovely ARC to be sent, but to Shayla Black for sending it, and signed at that, along with a few fun goodies. Ya'll are so awesome. And I can't think you enough :D
Ok I want to put a big warning out for the younger readers that follow me. This book is most definitely an ADULT ROMANCE, and I just want you to be prepared for what kind of review this will be. While I still won't curse or anything bad, I just want you to understand that this book is for mature readers, so act accordingly. And that may mean that this review won't appeal to you. That is perfectly ok. Now on the other hand if you have been reading these kinds of books already, then just ignore everything I've said hehe
Well with all that out of the way let's get this review a' rolling
To give you a little background at my experience with these books, and well the whole kinky BDSM style books...
I know I'm behind the curve but I only really got into this series back when His To Take was releasing. I got on the blog tour and was introduced to the books And while they aren't my go to genre (Don't get me wrong, I love sexy steamy romances) I really fell for Shayla's books. Like most out there these days I jumped on the Fifty Shades bandwagon a couple years ago (While had read erotic type books before that, they never really caught my attention. We were talking the short free books on Nook, and lets just say there was a whole lot of bang (ing) involved and very little story telling, which just didn't do it for my mushy romance seeking 18-20 year old soul) So here I was, 20 now and picking up book 1 in that series. My best friend had already read it and had been pushing it in my direction for a while at that point and I finally caved. I was curious what all the hype was and well a little intrigued at that sort of life style (fictional or not). So I bought the series on my Nook and got started. And while yes there was all that kinky red room stuff I actually found myself enjoying the plot and characters and devoured the books in a few days.
So with that introducing me into this whole new world of books (I expect all of you to be braking out in your Aladdin songs at this point hehe) and from there I started branching out in to other series. Take a guess at which ones I chose. There was definitely some Sylvia Day, some Maya Banks, Christina Lauren later on down the road and presently, and Kyra Davis, and H.M Ward to name a few. But then there was Shayla Black. And being a book nerd in the book world I had heard a lot about her books. Everyone seemed to love them so why not give them a chance too?
So I signed up for the tour and BAM!!!! smack dab in the middle of The Wicked Lovers world. And I actually could say I loved the book by the time I was done. It had a great story line, hot steamy scenes, great characters... What more could I want? But it also to me is a much better representation of what that world is all about that we as a society seem so enamored with right now.
And while her books can be read as standalone's I was now intrigued with all these characters that had obviously been introduced in the past and found myself scoping out her books in the sale shelves every time I went into a book store. (I even found a signed one at B&N on my birthday this past summer) and while I haven't finished them all just yet I'm making my way through them.
I love how every one of the books in the series is different though. She gives each character their own life and problems and I really liked that. I don't want 15 books of different people just rehashing the same problem 15 different ways (Yes I have read books that did that. Anyone got some brain bleach possibly?)
So back to Wicked For You.
I really liked this latest installment. Axel is one of those characters we've seen pop up and never really known much about. But like any good character that does that, he became one I wanted to know more about. Well wish granted I guess (Thank you Shayla Genie) and what a wish it was.
This book really had some great scenes in it. There were the hot steamy oh my goodness gracious ones. There were the oh crap someone is in big trouble parts. The "I know who the killer is, I know who the killer is" parts (Those are my favorite lol). The oh man this book is getting so intense, situation and character chemistry both. And then there are the suspenseful ones.
Let's talk characters here for a bit.
Like I said, We are finally getting to see Axel's story. The first time I remember seeing him was in the book before this one, but as I talked about before he could have popped up before that and I just haven't gotten to those books yet. I've been kinda bouncy with the ones I've read and haven't read so far.
But anyways, Axel is just one of those people you find intriguing. We're first introduced to him in this book when Mystery visits him in a bar while disguised and although we don't know their history yet he seems like the sort of quite brooding kind.
As the story goes though and we start to see how he and Mystery met and I have to say that whole bit was an exciting adventure on it's own. We get to really see what he's like though. Him and Mystery are thrown into this crazy scary situation and he has to be the strong one that goes in and saves her while also not overstepping any boundaries any savior of a 19 year old in a bad situation should. No matter how strong the attraction. The amount of self control he shows awes me and I have to say a big muscular ex military medic can come rescue me any day hehe.
The other thing I want to say about Axel though is that while intimidating and a bit (I use the word bit lightly) controlling is also sort of a sweet heart. He has the best intentions in mind, and really cares about the people in his life no matter what role they may have in it. He is extremely protective and loyal and I really like that he can be that way despite his history. It shows the kind of person he is and that he is willing to give things a chance when they are worth it.
Plus the man is a beast in the bedroom and has that whole dominant thing going on. And while I still am not sure how I feel about his brand of kink it made for some steamy scenes.
I want to talk about Mystery some too. While She isn't one of my favorite characters of Shayla's (My favorites consisting of Callie, Bailey and Kata) I did like her spunk and spirit. Mystery has a way of making you like her in a way. As the kid of a rich Hollywood director you would think she is going to be one of those spoiled little rich kids. But she isn't, she's smart and resourceful and actually pretty down to earth. Now while I said she hasn't been one of my favorites that doesn't mean I didn't like her. I actually did. She was a fun character to read about, and the way her and Axel just sort of bond makes for in interesting dynamic between the two. That whole soft and hard thing really fits the two of them. But I think the thing that kinda puts me off about her was her constant fear to wind up in this repeating her parents mistakes thing. It made her always weary of Axel and caused a lot of problems. There were multiple times where I would have been all to happy to reach into the book and give her a good NCIS head thwacking Gibbs style.
But other than that I really did enjoy her story. Like I said she defiantly was never a damsel in distress and i have to give any character props when they don't freak out and turn into the ball of fear females that are scared stiff and don't help a situation. She was the kind that jumps head first and while she may be scared just keeps pushing through and does what she needs to do.
I really have nothing but good things to tell you about this book. It has lot's of mystery, suspense, romance, and kink to it. And is written in a stunning way. Not to much over the top stuff, but just enough to intrigue you and keep you begging for the next characters stories.
I can't wait to see what Shayla has planned next for her Wicked World, and you can bet I will be very very impatiently waiting haha.
I give Wicked For You: *****5 Stars*****
Although incredibly cheesy and predictable, I enjoyed the read. This was unlike anything other spicy book I’ve read, I think the added dimension of thriller and mystery was definitely interesting, it kept me wondering who the killer was and I was indeed surprised. Axel is of course the man of the hour many times, but idk if I’ll ever get past that rice and cutting board part.
The characters actually have no character development. The female lead is nothing more than someone who gets jealous as well as needs saving a few times. The male lead is nothing more someone who saves the female lead and smacks her ass. The second male lead is nothing more than someone who is jealous and saves the female lead.
Th girl starts off seducing the male lead. The story jumps back to when she was kidnapped and he saved her from gunmen. They lusted after each other back then and she had fallen in love with him. But, she was 19 and too young for him and too emotionally traumatized then. The story jumps back. He finds out who she is after she sneaks out his door after sex. He goes after her in time for her to find a photo of her when she was kidnapped with a threat telling her to go home to London. (She is currently in the states visiting her aunt.) He and her bodyguard work together to get her away from the hotel. They go to Club Dominion where the male lead uses some toys on her. But, when she sees him interacting with his former sub (he was actually breaking up with her then although he does have a chaste kiss with the sub), she is reminded of her cheating father and runs away with her bodyguard to her aunt's place. The male lead tracks her down and then punishes her for leaving after he clears up the misunderstanding. They go to a diner. A waitress forces herself almost naked on the male lead, leading the female to again think he is cheating. (I skimmed this part but she kisses her bodyguard who loves her in retaliation and goes off with him and her aunt. It is the aunt who was behind the kidnapping and murder of her mother all along. She had put aphrodisiac into the male lead's drink and spiked the bodyguard's drink to make him sleep. The girl is then kidnapped and taken to a famous televangelist.) it turns out that her mother had slept with the televangelist and was planning a tell all book. He is the female lead's true father, not the famous director who had raised her and was married to her mother. He tell all book would ruin the televangelist's career as well as his marriage. Also, her aunt had dated the famous director before her mother did. But, it was her mother he married, not the aunt. The aunt is a giant follower of the televangelist and was dismayed her sister, the female lead's mother, had tempted him with her body. She is also very jealous of her because she was the one who made it in Hollywood and was able to marry the famous director. They kill the mother before she can release her tell all book. They kidnap the girl to scare her away from the U.S. and away from her mother's things, where she kept copies of her manuscript. The female lead now has the manuscript on an sd card. The televangelist kills her aunt to scare her into giving up the sd card. The girl fights and opens the door to the two male leads. Both shoot he televangelist but her bodyguard is grazed from the televangelist's bullet. She had hit her head and faints. She wakes up in the hospital. Her knew about her true parentage all along. (But he is a very loving and caring father.) The sd card has "mysteriously" disappeared. (So that the press do not get and release the secrets.) Her father approves of her relationship with the male lead even though he know what the purpose of Club Dominion is. He also tells her that her bodyguard has resigned because he can't be next to her since he loves her and she doesn't. The father is also going to counseling for his empty affairs with women half his age. (This is what caused a giant rift between the girl's father and mother.) Her father wants to find the one and get married again and be faithful to her. (I thought her mother was his one but I guess that that he only loved her, but did not love her enough to not cheat on her.) The girl apologizes to the male lead about running away again without waiting to talk it out. The male lead has some trauma since his mother left him and his brothers when he was 8. He contacted her recently and his mother regrets walking out. The male lead confesses his love for her and proposes with her mother's ring. (They have actually only known each other a few days, even including the time a long time ago when he had saved her.) She accepts. She plans to move back to the states to be with him because she is still an American girl and can write anywhere. His life is in Texas. He did offer to move to London to be with her.
Her father has also had an affair with a powerful man's wife.
I'm just not sure how I feel about this one. At times, I really liked it. It kept me guessing til towards the end. The sex scenes were ok I guess, not super hot and definitely not up tp par with the rest of the series. I enjoyed reading about their past, that was the best part of the whole book imho. I liked the first few scenes of them together in the present. I even liked him confronting her at the hotel.
Here's what I hated....SPOILERS
I hated the constant reminder of Sweet Pea/Misty, it felt shoved down my throat the he cares so much for her and has been her Dom for 2 years. It felt like every internal dialogue Axel had involved her. I hated that Mystery caught Sweet pea sitting in Axel's lap with him cuddling her. That was completely ridiculous. I don't care how long you've been friends, I don't care how much you supposedly care about a former partner. Cuddling them in your lap and being intimate like that isn't cool. I felt sick after reading that. I get that he cares about her and that's great but there's other ways of going about saying good bye, you just don't do that especially after what happened with Mystery right before this. He had already admitted to himself how much he cared for Mystery at that point. He then kissed her on the lips, so that's a huge no no even if it was just for comfort. I'm glad that she left and she had every right to do so and I wouldn't put up with his crap either. I don't care what Sweet Pea's story is, he didn't have to do that but chose to and the fact that he got caught doing it serves him right, he could have been up front and honest with her but refused to even after the big speech about how her dishonesty hurt him. He's nothing but a hypocrite really. She forgives him way too quickly and never even asks why he didn't tell her. I lost respect for her after that. To me she never cared why, she just wanted him to tell her a story to make her feel better. He makes he kneel on uncooked rice as a punishment, and she just takes it.....WTH??? Who does that? That's not romantic, it's sadistic. She just does it so he'll keep being with her. I think I read somewhere that that is used as a form of torture. It was his fault that she left! He had no business doing that when he was more at fault than she was! I basically checked out after reading that. I finished the book but only because I made myself hoping that it would get better. It did not. Ok so ya this is probably my last book in this series. I already hate Sweet Pea so I highly doubt I'll be reading her story next.
There's a lot I've come to expect from Shayla Black. A wickedly good story filled with action and some really hot heroes to start with. In this case I have to admit to feeling a bit misled by the title. Except for two scenes which I would term as light bdsm, there wasn't much “Wicked” about the entire book. Don't get me wring, Shayla Black is a favorite of mine and a guaranteed great read even on a bad day. However this particular book missed the boat in the wickedness level.
This is not to say that I was in the least disappointed in the story. The plot was well thought out and the characters had a sense of depth. This went for all the characters, not just the principle hero and heroine, but supporting characters as well. From the moment I began reading the book, I was thoroughly engrossed in it. I just couldn't put it down. A mystery that had even me guessing added to the appeal of the story. Black kept me guessing through the entire book, clear through the end.
These characters were far from perfect. Both Mystery and Axel have their flaws and hangups that require a lot of patience and probably a few drinks just to get over them. However, these just served to humanize both of them. I'm hoping Heath gets his own story soon. I'd love to read what happens to him going forward.
Great story line, fantastic characters and a mystery that keeps you guessing as to the who and why when all the likely suspects have alibis. This is definitely a keeper. One you will want to bring back out and read more than once.
Shadow's review posted at Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews
Wicked for You is one of the best entries in Shayla Black’s Wicked Lovers series, featuring the love story between Axel Dillon, the head of security at BDSM Club Dominion, and Mystery Mullins, the daughter of a famous movie producer.
Axel saved Mystery from a kidnapping six years ago and she has not been able to relate to any male since, comparing them all to the handsome, caring, protective Dom she fell in love with during her rescue. She returns to the United States from England, where she has been living for the past several years and decides to seduce Axel to see if she can get over him.
Axel hasn’t been carrying a torch for Mystery, but he is intrigued by the girl who approaches him in a bar. Unfortunately, as soon as her presence is revealed, the unknown kidnapper begins stalking her. Axel’s efforts to protect her lead them to Dominion, where Mystery is intrigued by what she discovers. Can she find her inner submissive and develop a relationship with Axel before her deadly stalker strikes again?
I loved Axel. Strong, dominant, protective and hot, he is an ideal lover, without being too perfect. Mystery has some strange ideas, but I admired how she had taken a terrifying incident and used it to make herself stronger. The plot was good, the secondary characters interesting, and the sex scenes scorched my e-reader.
Overall, a delightful addition to the Wicked Lovers series and a thoroughly enjoyable read.
HOLY HOTNESS. This book doesn't just sizzle, it SCORCHES!
Axel Dillon is literally the perfect man.
Smart. Protective. Honest.
Dominant.
Mystery Mullins is a Hollywood princess. Daughter of a big-time director and a mother who's death remains a mystery. She's sweet, naive, and coasts through life.
The two of them share a very brief encounter that leaves Mystery with a permanent itch that only Axel can scratch.
This book is hands down one of the hottest reads. It's sensual, edgy, and unpredictable. Axel is a man that you literally dream of (and yes, I did dream of him while reading this book). His first instinct is always protection, but his second is his Dom side, and that is sexy as hell.
Mystery is a fun character that I really loved. She's sheltered, but not stupid. She thinks fast and learns quick. She's emotional but not unreasonable. And she can admit when she's wrong.
The two of them together are amazing. The plot is full of twists that are wicked and fun.
This is the first of the Wicked Lovers series that I've read, and I don't think that I missed anything by not reading the priors, but I do realize that there are recurring characters. I will definitely be reading the first nine in the series now.
There are no graphic scenes. Only intense situations, smoldering lust and some emotional moments that melt your heart.
If you like suspense and sensuality, this book is the perfect combination of both.
I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, kidnapping, murder, suspense, twist & turns, seduction, secrets, lies, betrayal, and heartbreak.
This is Mystery and Axel’s story. Mystery was kidnapped years ago and Axel with the help of two of his friends were hired to find and bring her home. While in the process of getting home Mystery comes on Axel and he rejects her. She has since moved overseas and has been there for years. Now years Mystery needs one night with Axel so she can finally move on with her life. She travels back to the US in order to get her one night. She goes to him with a fake name and a disguise and gets her one night. She flees after she has him once. Then her world comes crashing down on her. She is threaten but she is not sure why. Axel figures out just who seduced him. Now he has to figure out what he is going to do about it. Once he finds out about the threat they must work together to figure it out. But misunderstandings and hurt feeling might just be the thing that gets them in more trouble. Can they figure out the threat before it takes one of them out?
I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next story from this author.
OMG!
OMG!
After my last round with this series, I was a little worried this series was losing it's mojo, but dang if Shayla Black didn't completely rev it back up again with WICKED FOR YOU. I'm sorry - I legit cannot stop flailing. This book is why I fell in love with this series.
First of all, I love getting glimpses of past couples and seeing how they're doing, but I would have been fine completely omitting them if it gave me more time with Axel and Mystery.
Yes, I know. You're probably rolling your eyes at their names like I did. But what's in a name, y'all? That by which you call and Axel is still ridiculous hot and alpha and swoony and ... hot.
Mystery was the gem for me in this. I loved her vulnerability, her strength, and the way she complemented Axel. These two are my new favorite power couple because ... DANG.
Someone bring me my fan! And a water. With lots of ice.
This book made me want to go back and reread the entire series because it totally rekindled my love for these characters. I am elated with this book.
Just the right mood for this book. It has the plot line I love and I had been waiting to read this one. Can't wait for more in this series.
I do not care for books that use flashback to tell parts of the story and I do not like love stories that involve reunions. This one has both with a 6 1/2 year gap between meetings for Axel and Mystery. Those two things just do not do it for me and can ruin an otherwise good book. In this case, the book was amazing otherwise with a mystery (no pun meant) that kept you interested and action (both in and out of the bedroom) that kept me reading. The other thing that I did not like was the problems that Axel and Mystery had communicating. I would have liked to see that more resolved before their HEA, but this of course is romance genre at its worst and too fast paced for such things. (re-read gave 4 stars for the reunion, but loved the save the girl plot)
I enjoyed this book but not as well as I would have liked. Mystery and Heath are interesting characters bu I feel the ending was a bit rushed and things were left unfinished with Heath, Stone and Sweet Pea's story. Having said that overall the I enjoyed the way the events played out. Hopefully we haven't seen the last of Heath since they hinted he was kind of "into the lifestyle" I sure thought he was going to be introduced to Sweet Pea. Maybe the author will redeem herself by continuing the story. Book idea heath gets in over his head in next assignment comes to Axel and the boys of Club Dominion for help where he meets "Sweet Pea"..........of course trouble ensues and love takes over............... just a thought.
Axel is incensed when he realizes Mystery tricked him but he can’t help being intrigued as well and when a murderer sets out to silence her for good, he’s doesn’t hesitate to become her protector and lover in this wickedly thrilling romantic suspense. Once again, Wicked Lovers is filled with thrills and excitement, sensual delights, fiery passion and sexy characters that readers can’t help but fall in love with. I was completely caught up in Axel and Mystery’s (I just love her name) story from the very beginning and I can’t wait for the next wicked read.
