"It didn't start with love.
It started with hate."

If you want to read a truly great mafia romance, then Helena Newbury is my absolute top recommendation.
Her stories leave a lasting impression and plenty to think about, just like this book.

Helena has a gift for writing Russian mafia-thrillers that completely captivate you and make your pulse race with suspense.

As always, the action-packed story is so thrilling and suspenseful that it's hard to tear yourself away from it for even five minutes.

The book is like a mix of "Mission Impossible" and "007" with a very exciting mafia romance.

I don't know how to describe it without spoilers, but if you like action-packed, scorching hot, enemies-to-lovers romances, this is a must-read for you.

This story is definitely not for the faint-hearted.
It's a mafia romance, so it's brutal, raw, and murderous.
Although, I'm not sure who's more brutal and criminal in this story: the Russian mafia, the FBI, or other authorities 🤐

This book is proof of why I love Helena's books so much.
Action-packed, suspenseful, and exciting from the first page to the last.

If you love enemies to lovers and mafia romance with a lot of suspense then you will love this book.
Alison is an FBI agent trying to take down Gennadiy and his family. Gennadiy is Russian mob and has a thorn in his side by the name of Alison. But when Alison is framed and she needs to hide out until she can clear her name, she turns to her enemy for help.
Loved watching their fiery relationship grow while they worked together to bring down the bad guy. Plus the suspense had me hooked, couldn’t wait to see how it ended.
Opposites do attract, proof in their happy ending.

I am loving this series so far! This was a great enemies to lovers, found family read. Both Alison and Gennadiy have tragic pasts that defines them as adults. They may be on opposite sides, Bratva vs the FBI, but they are one and the same.

The slow burn and the angst are alive and well in this read as these two play a game of cat and mouse. They are both so driven and tenacious, I loved reading them trying to one up the other.

The stakes keep rising the further we get and the family must come together and put their trust in Alison to prevail. Loved seeing the brothers and Bronwyn and I can’t wait to book 3!

When Alison discovers the Community Center has burned down, she is heartbroken. The Center was her last connection to her parents who have both passed. The last shred of happiness she's had in her life. When she finds out it was a probable arson, Alison has a good idea who the perpetrator is.
Gennadiy Aristov runs all the illegal operations for his family. He spends his days and nights running their casino and taking care of any illegal business deals the family has, including making sure cops and city officials, on his payroll, do as he says.
Gennadiy is now actively under surveillance by, none other than, FBI Special Agent Alison Brooks and she's determined to stick close to him and take his family down. This is personal. Alison sticks so close to Gennadiy, they begin a weird short of friendship type understanding. Neither wants to see the other hurt, but they are determined to best each other and, if push comes to shove, deal with each other in their own appropriate ways. Alison, by arresting Gennadiy and Gennadiy by disposing of, his new obsession, Alison. Obsession doesn't even begin to describe how Gennadiy feels about Alison. He's completely out of control and unbeknownst to him, Alison feels the same. Not that it would ever work. He's high up in organized crime and is feared by all and she is an FBI Agent😲 When it becomes clear that Alison is in danger, all bets are off and Gennadiy, the cruel, murderous gangster, decides to protect the woman who has penetrated his cold, angry heart. Now if he could just convince the rest of his murderous, crime family to do the same.

One wild, cat and mouse thriller that hit the ground running and never let up!!! Love the main characters as well as secondary characters from the previous book! Sexy, naughty and wonderful! This fantastic book is a definite must read!!!

I devoured this book; passion, steam, suspense, choices and revelations abound
I was totally absorbed in this book from the first pages. Just as in the last book, the Aristov brothers do not believe they are good enough to find love so they do not expect it. They left Russia and came to America to become wealthy; they became bratva. They rule with an iron fist and take no prisoners, if you know what I mean. Gennadiy Aristov has a constant scowl on his face and a personality to match. When he is accosted by FBI Special Agent Alison Brooks, he cannot understand why she is not afraid of him. His glare usually sends people running in the other direction, but not this small woman who walks like a ballerina and rides a motorcycle like she is part of it. Alison insists to her FBI boss that she can bring Gennadiy down so she becomes his shadow. The longer this arrangement persists, the longer they realize they are much alike. What happens when events cause them to need each other? Can they remain competitive enemies? Their backstories relate greatly to their inherent rage. Alison works out her anger on her bike while Gennadiy uses his fury in less savory ways.
This book is so good. I cannot wait for the next one about their “baby brother” Valentin. Now that his older brothers have gone googly-eyed over their women, will Valentin be far behind? Love the cover. Love a scary mean guy who goes all soft for his woman. If you enjoy mafia/bratva suspense and intrigue with lots of passion and steam, you will want to read this book. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book.

Gennadiy and Alison
Another excellent book by Helena Newbury. I re-read her first book in the series as it’s been a year since that book. Would recommend readers doing the same as it brings series to life. First book is called Frozen Heart. This is Gennadiy, Radimirs middle brothers book and it doesn’t disappoint. Gennadiy is loosing control of his aggression and taking unnecessary risks building the Aristovs Bratva empire. One building take over too many gets Gennadiy in the sights of FB Agent Alison Brookes. Excellent cat and mouse storyline with massive plot twists right until the end of the book. Enjoyed it more than Frozen Hearts - probably due the characters expanding within the 2nd book of the series. Love reading Helena’s book and very grateful for being part of her ARC gang. Always a priviledge to have a book pop into your email acc. Thanks very much.

Heart of Rage by Helena Newbury is book 2 in the Aristov Bratva series and is an incredible addition to the mafia world Helena has created. I absolutely loved Gennadiy and Alison, they have my whole heart. We first met Gennadiy in book 1 of the series, Frozen Heart (another five star read for me; this is an interconnected series and I enjoyed reading them in order, but you absolutely don't have to). He's one of three Aristov brothers running the Bratva in Chicago. We met Alison in some of Helena's earlier works about her beloved characters from the New York FBI field office and various New York/Russia Bratva members.

Alison is an FBI agent who recently transferred to the Chicago office (where she's originally from). When she was a child, she lost her parents through a tragic mistaken identity situation involving a war between two unrelated mafia families and as a result of this trauma, made it her life mission to put criminals, especially mafia members, away. Her job with the FBI and her anger from the loss of her parents fuel her. Gennadiy is of course a mafia member and in charge of running the illegal businesses of the family, thus putting him directly in Alison's crosshairs. Alison makes it her mission to take Gennadiy down. This is a true enemies to lovers romantic suspense. Enemies to lovers is one of my absolute favorite tropes and reading a true enemies to lovers romance like this one is a real treat. Gennadiy knows Alison is after him and the two hilariously try to one up each other. They each find a worthy opponent in the other and in the process, find that they might not be all that different after all. Just as Alison holds on to the anger surrounding her parents' death, Gennadiy holds on to his anger from a horrible childhood in Russia. His anger helps him accomplish all the unsavory things he needs to do for his family. Alison thinks she's on the right side of things, that despite the mutual attraction she and Gennadiy seem to have with one another, any kind of relationship between them would never work. But then a betrayal within the FBI forces Alison to ask Gennadiy for help. The two are forced to work together to stop a powerful foe and find the traitor within the FBI.

There is nonstop, page turning action and suspense throughout the book which I absolutely loved. There is also a beautiful love story, as both Alision and Gennadiy find each other through what seems at times to be insurmountable circumstances. Their love in my opinion is a real soulmate type of love. A love that certainly wasn't instant, but was so incredibly powerful once it was realized. These two are both such strong characters who never back down from a fight and project strength and drive and confidence and stubbornness to the world. But they are also both a little bit broken (in their hearts). And to find each other, to get past that initial hatred, and to realize that they have found their "person" in each other was beautiful to read. I loved how Alision described their love at one point, she said something to the effect of, Gennadiy was the only person who ever "got her," who ever understood her, and his love and the security and safety she felt in his arms was what she'd been looking for ever since her parents died when she was a child. I also loved how Alison understood Gennadiy too. She was a safe place for him to talk about his horrendous childhood and guilt he faced and in doing so, she helped him let go of some of that anger he carried. I also loved the family aspect (or found family for Alison), as Gennadiy's brothers and uncle eventually accept Alison into the family. I also really loved the reappearance of some of the characters from the New York FBI office that were the subjects of earlier books. Especially Calahan. I don't want to spoil anything, I'll just say it was awesome to see him again. I absolutely loved this book and highly recommend it if you love romantic suspense and a beautiful love story.

I have said this in a previous review: There is nothing as satisfying as sitting down to read a Helena Newbury novel.

What is one word to describe HEART OF RAGE? Exceptional!

I don’t know how she does it book after book, but she does. And she surpasses herself every single time. This book is the continuation of the Aristov Empire which began in her last book, FROZEN HEART. This one concentrates on the relationship between Gennadiy Aristov and Allison Brook. One a Russian crime boss. The other an FBI agent. One a giant of man involving criminal acts of violence; the other committed to taking down the Russian Brava.

The first time that they met, she punched him in the face in his casino surrounded by his men. She was there to confront him about burning down her sanctuary, a little bedraggled community theater. He was taken off guard by this blonde.

For weeks, she followed him wherever he went. He knew she was there. This trailing began an obsession in both characters. It led to the loss of luxury cars from one of his lucrative businesses. It led to him holding her in grief at the grave of her beloved friend.

They fell in love.

Helena Newbury does not publish canned stories; she plots her novel very thoroughly, dedicating herself to creating such twists and turns that confound the characters and the readers. She only published once a year with a quality product.

When I see a book with Helena Newbury as the author, I automatically buy it without a second glance. This one was truly exceptional. You don’t know who the bad guys are; for that matter, we are not sure of who the good guys are either.

You will love this book. I certainly did.

Intense, emotional, and thrilling.

The second book in the Aristov Brothers series was an intense, emotional, and thrilling story that enthralled me from the beginning. Alison is an FBI agent with a traumatic childhood. When she sees her past home and dance studio go up in flames, she knows just who to blame: Gennadiy Aristov, and she is going to bring him down. Gennadiy and his two brothers are on top of the organized crime families in Chicago, and one small agent isn’t going to get in his way. Of course, he can’t seem to shake her, both from his mind and from following his every move. At the same time, there is another force at work trying to demolish all that the Aristovs have built and destroy their lives.

Helena Newbury masterfully wrote the Aristov Brothers to be dark, morally grey, and yet have such passion, protectiveness, and deep emotions for each other and the women who infiltrate their lives. Alison and Gennadiy have a pull that supersedes them being on opposite sides of the law. They have trauma in each of their pasts that make them who they are today. They are both so guarded and closed off to normal feelings that the moments they let each other get behind their masks were my favorites in this story. Inch by inch, they creep under each other’s skin until there is no other way to live but together. This undeniable attraction and spine-tingling suspense kept me riveted to the story. The suspense and emotions of this book escalated to a final confrontation that rocked my world. This may be my favorite book by Ms. Newbury thus far, and I can’t wait for Valentin’s story, which, from glimpses in this book, will be even more emotionally gripping.

FBI vs Bratva.

When she was twelve Alison Brooks watch as her parents died, they were victims of two warring crime families. Now she is an FBI agent determined to put Gennadiy Aristov and his bratva family behind bars. But while she investigates the ARistov family Alison will draw the attention of a criminal that makes Gennadiy’s family look like choir boys. The unidentified criminal has a mole in the FBI that will frame her for a crime she didn't commit. On the run from the agency, she has given her life to, she will turn to Gennadiy in hopes that he can protect her while she finds the person who is framing both her and the Aristov family.
Wow, I loved this book! Lots of violence, as well as twists and turns in the plot that left me reeling and kept me on the edge of my seat. All of the characters are wonderfully well written and engaging. I adored Alison who may be small of stature, but she is also a kick butt fighter in her own right and smart enough to see what everyone else has missed. I highly recommend this fantastic mafia romance to anyone who enjoys this genre.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary ARC provided by the author.

Ahhh, nothing beats enemies to lovers romance. And this one was an intense one! Gennadiy is the Aristov brother who actually gets his hands dirty so his life is full of violence, murders and deceit. And what happens when FBI agent Alison Brookes is set to bring him down? Fireworks! The good and the bad type! What I really liked about this book was how natural everything happened when it came to their relationship. Nothing too rushed or forced. A big chunk of the book, they hate each other and are set to win for their own reasons. Things change when they realise not everything is black and white. They start with small favours for each other until they give in. When they become a team, it’s game on! The adventure they embark on kept me at the edge of my seat! Fighting together against a common enemy brought them even closer and I am happy that Alison found her “tribe”. Can’t wait to read about Valentin and his demons.

Gennadiy is dark, tortured, and an inferno barely contained. His violence makes you flinch even as your heart aches for the pain that forged him. The line between right and wrong blurs until judgment feels impossible, and that moral tension lingers long after each choice is made. Alison is infuriating yet commands deep respect—unyielding, sharp, and impossible to ignore. Their attraction is a raging fire, burning from the inside out, explosive yet unexpectedly tender as they find their place together in a brutal world.
The danger in their reality hits hard and without warning, forcing pauses that make you question every decision. Yet it’s their fierce devotion—to family, to love, to survival—that ultimately stops you in your tracks. A dark, dangerous romance grounded by loyalty and heart, delivered with raw intensity and purpose.

Heart of Rage by Helena Newbury is an addictive, high‑stakes romance that grabs you from page one and never lets go. Newbury blends danger, heat, and sharp humor with her signature emotional depth, creating a story that feels both thrilling and deeply satisfying. The Russian mafia backdrop adds grit and tension, but it’s the chemistry between the leads — intense, tender, and impossible to look away from — that genuinely drives the book.

The pacing is tight, the twists land, and the balance between dark intrigue and heartfelt connection is spot‑on. By the time the HEA arrives, it feels completely earned.

A fast, fiery, and wildly entertaining read that romance and romantic‑suspense fans will devour.

The FBI agent VS the Mafia baddie.
Alison’s and Gennadiy’s worlds collide upon the destruction of a community theatre.
This tragic end of a childhood cornerstone sets Alison on a warpath to bring down the Aristov Bratva and their expansion into Chicago, that they attain by whatever means necessary.
Sparks fly immediately whenever these two are within shouting distance. Observations and interactions of each other over time and lots of surveillance hours lead to some mutual respect and trust.
These attributes come in handy when the tables are turned suddenly and concepts of good and bad are no longer crystal clear.
Working together to survive the forces that arise against them cements their unlikely partnership.
Another fabulous novel of twists and turns, romance and suspense from Helena Newbury.

Alison is one of the most dedicated, single-minded FBI agents in Chicago. When Gennadiy Aristov, one of the most coldest Bratva in the country, burns down the community theatre which meant so much to her, she becomes even more determined to bring down his crime family. Of course, it is completely unfair how handsome and compelling he is in person, and the sparks that fly when they meet are off the scale.

Helena Newbury has once again crafted one of the most ingenious plotlines you could ever hope to read. This has intrigue, betrayal, combustible attraction and loyalty, wrapped in a heart-stopping tale that will have you gasping, smirking and crying in equal measure.

Absolutely brilliant!

Another ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ For Helena Newbury.

I love romance stories. I love mafia stories. I also love suspense stories. If you add that all together and more you get Helena Newbury’s new book Heart of Rage.
Gennadiy and Alison were as mismatched a pair as oil and water. I kept wondering how could it work out with an FBI agent and a mafia boss. It is only after they spend time together that they realize they are more alike than they think. With limited physical interactions between there two the chemistry is oh so hotter than hell and their encounter at the strip club was combustible. I loved how their relationship progressed
There were a lot of twists and turns, betrayals, bullets, and bloodshed to get to their HEA.
I received a copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

Heart of Rage by Helena Newbury is the next book in the series with the Aristov brothers. In the romantic suspense that keeps you on the edge of your seat, the story revolves around Gennadiy Aristov and Alison Brooks. Gennadiy is the middle of three brothers and is really the glue of his family keeping both sides of his mafia business running. He a broody man that catches the eye of FBI agent Alison Brooks, a firecracker of an agent that decides Gennadiy is her next target. Both Gennadiy and Alsion come from difficult backgrounds and to watch them develop a relationship over time is a beautiful thing. This is a fast-paced read that keeps you turning the pages to find out what happens next. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Oh I do love a strong woman and a man who ducks and dives in the wrong direction. Alison is an FBI agent whose aim is to put away Gennadiy and his family. Gennadiy Russian Mafia family have many fingers in many pies. He knows that he is being watched and the game of cat of mouse begins. It’s like a slow tango dance. When things go to pot for Alison it is Gennadiy who she looks for help. He willing gives it to her. Gennadiy may be cruel, murderous gangster, with one cold heart but one FBI agent seems to melting him. It is until danger comes truly knocking that both of the release how they feel about each other. Problem she is the law and his family kills for a living.
The drama, chemistry , angst, spice oh the spice, suspense and the ride is brilliant.

This book was so freaking good! I love Helena Newbury. She is pretty much an automatic read for me because I know she is going to deliver on both romance and plot.

Gennadiy is a mafia enforcer who is losing control of his anger. When he burns down a theater, he catches the attention and the anger of FBI agent Alison. She is determined to take him and his whole operation down after he destroyed her last link to her parents. However, the more the two have contact, the more they realize they have a matching anger alongside a budding attraction.

I loved this couple. They both threw their weight around a lot in the best way. They were not giving in to each other no matter what. I also loved (and mild spoiler here) that Alison punched Gennadiy in the face right when she met him because of what he had done. And I loved that this made Gennadiy feel the confusing mix of rage, attraction, and respect for her.

I could not get enough of this couple. They were absolutely so sexy and I was obsessed. Definitely worth the read and it makes me want to go back and revisit the first one.

Was so glad to receive this advanced copy of Helena's new Bratva book. My review is voluntary.

This is Gennadiy Aristov's story. You may remember Gennadiy from Frozen Heart, as he is Radimir's brother. (Don't worry if you didn't read that one yet, it won't affect your enjoyment of this book. You can go back and read it later!) Gennadiy is the brother who runs most of the family's businesses. The rage he has inside him makes him a workaholic since being constantly busy keeps the rage in check. He can't seem to delegate and when things are going wrong he just works harder. Of course, being Bratva means the businesses are not all exactly what they seem and running them involves more than sitting at a desk reading correspondence. Those bodies in the lake don't put themselves there.

FBI agent Alison Brooks has a rage issue of her own. Her parents were taken from her at a young age when a mafia hit team mistook her parents car for their target's and threw a molotov cocktail through the window. Having no other family, once she was released from the hospital, with a badly burn-scarred leg, she was put into the system in Chicago. She managed to stay out of trouble, barely, and went into police work with the goal of taking down mafia families. When her beloved Chicago Community Theater was set on fire, she knew exactly who did it. Gennadiy Aristov. So starts a battle between Alison and Gennadiy that is not going to end where she thinks it is.

These two really go at each other for awhile. Then something happens that totally changes their relationship. Enjoy.

We all love the “bad boy turns good” novels, and the tension and “will they or won’t they” suspense when two people who seem like polar opposites meet and have that immediate spark. This is a wonderful addition to the Aristov Bratva series by Helena Newbury and (so far) is my favorite. I love the character development of Gennadiy and how we learn more about his family in this 2nd book of the series, and while I knew there was someone hinky in Alison’s inner circle, I was surprised to learn who it was along with Alison. This was the perfect read for a cold winter’s day and I am now anxiously awaiting for Valentin to get his own happily ever after

Two groups that have never and should never work together. She irritated him to the max and he was everything she hated about the corrupt world. Yet a twist in events mean two individuals that would never trust each other have a change of heart during an extremely volatile time and after many explosive moments, life is no longer what is seems. If you read the first book in this series, you must read this one as it has all the great characters from earlier with more than a handful of new ones added to the mix. Violent, raging war with steamy, emotion relationships. Ready to blow!

I loved this next installment in the Bratva series. I did not love Radimir's story but Gennadiy and Allison's story was chef's kiss!

Gennadiy is Radimir's brother and is being tracked by a FBI agent, Allison. She is determined to bring down their organization. Allison becomes obsessed with her job and in turn, attracted to Gennadiy. As it gets closer to her time up on the case, both her and Gennadiy are framed for crimes they didn't commit. I loved seeing their love blossom and their vulnerability coming through.

Another great romance novel from Helena!! I'm always chomping at the bit when January's come around, for her new releases :)

The Dark Heart of the Aristov Mafia completely swept me away. I went in expecting a typical mafia romance, but this book delivers so much more—more tension, more emotion, more danger, more chemistry.

The dynamic between the FBI agent heroine and Gennadiy Aristov is electric from the very first chapter. She’s smart, stubborn, and carrying her own scars, and he’s the kind of morally gray antihero who should be terrifying…but somehow ends up being the only person she can trust. Their push‑and‑pull is deliciously frustrating in the best way.

Gennadiy Aristov has finally met his match in FBI agent Alison Brooks. This is not your average enemies-to-lovers story. Both Gennadiy and Alison are complex characters, each with a past that drives them to opposite sides of the law. As Alison investigates Gennadiy, she learns that the criminal world is not so black and white.

I am a huge fan of Helena Newbury, she writes great stories with complex characters and plot twists that you don't always see coming. I am excited to read Valentin's book.

They’re like fire and ice! Together they’ll make you want to melt.

From enemies to lovers, the tension and yearning will have you cheering Gennadiy and Alison on every step of the way.

Two hard working people on opposite ends of the law. Alison is an FBI agent determined to take down Gennadiy and his Russian Mafia family and Gennadiy is a ruthless criminal who despises everything the FBI stands for, except for her.

This story was hard to put down. The passion and undeniable chemistry will keep you turning pages until the very end.

Ok Allison may be a top fave FMC 🤭
Loveeddd this story, I’m in my enemies to lovers phase right now so this was literally perfect for me.
I’m never let down by Helena, as someone who has read everything she has written and has loved every single story, she knows how to reel me in.
I’m obsessed with the characters being FBI agent (Allison) and Bratva Boss(Gennadiy). She’s supposed to bring him down… but what starts off as hate… changes to love and being protective (on both sides)
The plot is always perfect for me, so much going on that’s keeps you engaged in the story.
And LOVE the familiar faces..

Heart of Rage has it all, the mafia (bratva), law enforcement, romance and suspense. Alison is an FBI agent that gets herself assigned to investigate Gennadiy, a Bratva member after an unfortunate meeting that she wants to take down. I was wondering how this was going to work out. What happens in this story is suspenseful. Alison stumbles upon something that shocks her and brings her closer to Gennadiy. I loved this story and how their relationship developed.
I cannot wait for more in this series!

Great writing, interesting characters, and the action packed story in this gripping mafia romance, held me captive from beginning to end. FBI agent, Alison Brooks, and Gennadiy Aristov of the Aristov crime family, are all heat and passion in this riveting, twisty story. Once on opposite sides of the law, they are now allies in a fight against a cunning, formidable enemy. I could not put this book down! The story has everything you could want, from the electric chemistry of the characters and the well-plotted story, to the emotional, intense, and riveting conclusion. I loved it.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
