Light Claw

My five-year plan was built on logic: law school, a career, and finally giving my grandmother the relaxing retirement that she gave up when I was left on her doorstep as a baby with a heart condition.
Waking up in a dream world blessed by The Sun was not part of it.
Neither was discovering my fated mate is a dominant, devastatingly magnetic man who can turn into a bear.
But fate has never cared much for plans.
Cal is power wrapped in muscle and instinct, a bear shifter whose gaze pins me in place and whose presence makes my pulse race. As soon as our hearts find each other, there is no escaping the bond—especially when every touch leaves me burning and every growled promise makes my knees weak.
As Chief of the Claw Clan, he is fiercely protective and is willing to tear the world apart to keep me safe.
But our bond isn’t the only reason I was brought to this world.
An ancient prophecy marks me as the key to ending the greed poisoning the land, and my magic is awakening fast—wild, volatile, and more powerful than anyone has ever seen.
In a world where love burns hot and mates are claimed, will I rise to meet my fate? Or will I be the reason the Claw Clan breaks?

Set in the same world as The Moon Touched Chronicles, The Sun Kissed Scrolls is a spicy shifter romance series featuring protective bear shifter MMCs and their newly magical human fated mates. Each book follows a different couple, but should be read in order. This series includes explicit content and is intended for readers 18+.

4✯ i really enjoyed this book! it was such a quick and engaging read that i ended up finishing it in one sitting.

the pacing is definitely fast -maybe a little too fast for my usual taste (i’m a slow burn defender). But this is one of the rare cases where the soulmate connection feels genuine from the start, and it just works.

the characters communicate so well from the beginning that everything flows smoothly, and it felt really comforting to read ^.^

I have decided that if Ruby writes it, I will read it! I found Ruby on TikTok and devoured her Moon Touched Chronicles series (Nightfang, Nighthowl, and Nightfury). I was so excited to be able to get an early copy of Light Claw to continue on the journey!

Light Claw is the first in a new trilogy set in the same world as the Moon Touched Chronicles but focusing on bear shifters and their newly magical human mates. This book is focusing on Callum (Cal), our Chief of the Claw Clan, and his newly found heart mate, Willa.

Willa is a human, surviving the best she can in Chicago after her grandmother passed and left her alone. Willa was dumped on her grandmother's doorstep when she was young with a heart condition. One night, something happens and Willa wakes up in this beautiful world and is fully convinced she is dreaming. Little does she know that it is very real and she was pulled into this world by fate so that she could connect with her heart mate.

Cal's clan has been struggling to manage the greed from rebel clans and their poison of the lands. He is informed his heart mate should be arriving and sets out to find her. Their heart strings pull them together and their bond is instant. There is no escaping each other. Cal is a very powerful and protective bear shifter that will do everything he can to protect and satisfy his mate.

This book has such a good story, but I also like to label this one (and the previous trilogy) as fun, spicy, good times! It is a short and quick read, that is full of good banter, good humor, lots of spice, and a great story and magical world. If you like fated mates, this one is definitely for you!

While you don't have to read the Moon Touched Chronicles first, I do HIGHLY recommend it so that you can have a better understanding of some of the characters and the magic and things that have happened. It will make things click into place so much easier!

I devoured this book in one sitting. I know just what to expect from Ruby's writing and it was exactly what I needed when I got it! I may or may not have already begged her for the rest of the books in this trilogy. I am just slightly impatient lol

Thank you, Ruby, for this early copy to read! Cannot wait for the next ones!

If you love clan drama, morally complicated choices, and emotional damage wrapped in fantasy politics Light Claw is calling your name.

Ruby Ellis delivers a story packed with loyalty, betrayal, and the kind of family tension that makes you want to scream, “Just TALK to each other!” (But also… please don’t, because the chaos is delicious.)

Watching them wrestle with responsibility, grief, and impossible choices? Painful. In a good way. The emotional weight isn’t just there for decoration it shapes every decision.

And Willa and Callum?
Heartfelt. Intense. Complicated. Their dynamic adds so much emotional texture to the story. Every interaction feels layered with history and unspoken tension.

Grief. Duty. Consequences. The cost of power. Even with all the fantasy elements, the emotional core feels grounded and relatable. It’s not just about clans fighting it’s about what those fights cost the people caught in the middle.

Ellis’s prose is vivid without being overwhelming. The world-building is rich, the magic feels purposeful, and the pacing keeps you turning pages.

I received this as an ARC, and while it wasn’t totally for me, I still think it was a well-written book.

I gave Light Claw 4 stars because the writing was strong, the story was interesting, and I can definitely see why people who love shifter romance would really enjoy this one. It may even be one of the better shifter books I’ve read.

For me personally, though, I had a bit of a hard time getting into it and staying fully connected to the story. Nothing was badly done at all, it just didn’t fully click for me the way I wanted it to.

Overall, I do think this was a solid read, and fans of fated mates, shifters, and protective paranormal romance will probably have a great time with it.

Light Claw

I really enjoyed this story, and can’t wait for the next in this series so I can binge it too. I just finished the Moon Touched trilogy and went straight into the Sun Kissed series and the one thing I’m noticing about this book is it is similar to Rowan and Wars story in the wolf series. I’m not sure how I feel about that, just hope it doesn’t continue in this same vein.
I really enjoy Ruby’s stories, they flow well and her characters are fun to read about. They draw you in and you are right there with them, rooting for them. So I will definitely continue picking up more of her books.

This is not a review. Simply recording my activity so I can shelve this book accordingly.

Thank you to the author for allowing me this advanced to read.

I have opened this book and read the prologue and tried to start the first chapter a couple of times

Nothing points to anything negative other than personal preference-it starts with a male POV and I've generally never liked that. I did not care for the writing style. I did not see any structural problems, it was just not my preferred kind of reading experience.

I have DNF.

🐻 Bear shifter X Human
❤️ Fated mates
💖Found family

This is my first book by Ruby Ellis. I am excited to read more.

I loved the quick pace and easy to follow plot.

Cal and Willa are so good together. Willa doesn't take a crap from Cal or his bears. Cal is loving and stands beside/behind Willa is all situations.

I am excited for book 2.
