Scarlett Green has built a life in motion—traveling the world, crossing oceans, and always avoiding the one person she knows could turn her world upside her high school sweetheart, Hunt Elliot. Now a Marine Corps helicopter pilot, Hunt has carried Scarlett with him in everything he’s done—through every move, every challenge, and every flight. She’s always held his heart, and he’s never forgotten the girl who still owns so much of him. They’ve both lived full lives since high school. They’ve loved other people. But nothing ever replaced what they were to each other. When an unexpected event pulls them both back home, Scarlett and Hunt are forced to confront years of silence, the love they never outgrew, and the risk of reopening wounds that never truly healed. They must decide if what they once had is worth risking their hearts all over again. The second installment in the Rules of Engagement series, Flight Risk is a haunting second-chance romance about distance, devotion, and the dangerous hope of believing love can endure.
This sequel was every bit as good as the first book, if not better. The romance was packed with tension, longing, and emotional depth that kept me completely invested in Hunt and Scarlett’s story. Every chapter left me wanting more, making it nearly impossible to put down. The pacing was excellent, the chemistry was undeniable, and the story had me turning pages. M.C Ernst has a talent for conveying emotion in an incredible way. Every feeling, from the aching and longing between the characters to the most heartwarming moments felt so vivid that I experienced them right along with the characters. The writing didn’t just tell a story, it made me feel like I was living it. A fantastic sequel that delivered!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
It’s been a long time since a book grabbed me by the heart the way this one did. From the first chapter, it completely consumed me; I genuinely could not put it down. The emotional depth gave me major Rebecca Yarros vibes in the best way. The way this story shattered me and then stitched me back together should honestly be illegal.
I ran through every emotion imaginable. I laughed, I cried, and I absolutely adored watching Hunt and Scarlett fight for their second chance. Their journey felt raw, real, and unforgettable.
This is one of those rare books that lingers long after the final page. It’s going to stay with me for a while.
I received an ARC of Flight Risk by M.C. Ernst and wow… this book put me THROUGH it in the best way. I genuinely could not put it down. Every time I thought I knew where things were headed, something else happened and suddenly I was emotionally spiraling right along with the characters.
There is a lot packed into this story, and honestly there were moments I wished had been stretched out a little more simply because I was so invested and wanted to stay in those scenes longer. But the way M.C. Ernst writes emotion is what really got me. Even in situations I’ve never personally experienced, the feelings felt so familiar and real. You don’t just read what the characters are going through — you feel it with them.
This book had tension, heartbreak, healing, chaos, and those moments where you have to physically set the book down for a second and stare at the wall. If you loved Fight or Flight, Flight Risk absolutely delivers.
