Rate this book
The air might be freezing, but the race is heating up! Dev can't stop thinking about how much he'd disappointed his dad by signing up for The Wild Life.  But to win a race through the frozen Arctic tundra, where animals are ferocious and nature is extreme, the red team needs everyone to give it their all...even Dev!

And if he doesn't, his new friends may be giving him the cold shoulder...

Each chapter in this action-packed adventure series is bursting with totally true facts about wild and wonderful creatures, dangerous habitats, maps, and more!

In the last chapter my son was upset when they said in the past they had to shoot injured dogs. :-( I would recommend not reading that information to kiddos!!
Other than that, it's an exciting series. But we've forgotten who's on what team and if they've won or not. Hopefully they'll recap in book 4.

I liked the attempt to integrate information about animals and science but the storyline was weird and not interesting at all. It was an attempt to be suspenseful and adventurous that fell short

this book was good. I liked it because it outdoors and it seems fun if you were in the book. i could image what i would be like if i was in the book and doing the race. it´s a very cool book and the adventures are cool. i wanna do a race with this someday.

this book is about a race in the arctic. it will be a hard race they will have to dress to the freezing cold weather. if they don´t dress good that weather could get to them and take them out the race. the terrain is very hard to get though it will be a challenge. and the animal are very ferocious so don´t make them mad.

I do appreciate the fact that the team doesn't always come in first. But do all of the other teams have to be such jerks?

This is a review of both Great Reef Games and Arctic Freeze.

I was fairly critical of the first book of the series, Rain Forest Relay, but I liked these titles better. I still think the scientific facts presented between chapters are boring and superfluous, as so much science is already covered in the stories themselves, but the characterizations of the team members, and the team's struggle to reach first place and remain there ring very true. Of the two books, Great Reef Games has the more engaging narrator. Sage's voice is memorable and easy to like, whereas Dev is more generic and therefore less interesting. Arctic Freeze, however, has a truly exciting and adventurous plot, which, despite being awkwardly foretold by Dev's dream at the start of the story, really creates a suspenseful and exciting reading experience.

This series does something different than many other sets of chapter books, so for that reason alone, I think it's worth having in libraries and checking out from them.

My nephew and I are loving this series! We are learning so much as we enjoy the adventure. We both agree that we'd love to be contestants on The Wild Life.
Each book seems to center on another member of the team and this one was mostly Dev's journey. He is working hard to prove he isn't just a science kid. But he also learns that his science abilities really help the team.
The part with the dog sled race literally gave me goosebumps all over.

I preordered the next two books in the series and I'm in my thirties... I know, I know. I'm very, very cool.
