D. C. Thomson & Co. Ltd, is a publishing company based in Dundee, Scotland, best known for producing The Dundee Courier, The Evening Telegraph, The Sunday Post, Oor Wullie, The Broons, The Beano, The Dandy and Commando comics. It also owns Friends Reunited, Parragon, and the Aberdeen Journals Group which publishes the Press and Journal, the Evening Express, the Aberdeen Citizen and the North Scotland edition of ScotAds.

The company began as a branch of the Thomson family business when William Thomson became the sole proprietor of Charles Alexander & Co., publishers of Dundee Courier and Daily Argus. In 1884, David Coupar Thomson took over the publishing business, and established it as DC Thomson in 1905. The firm flourished, and took its place as the third J in the "Three Js", the traditional summary of Dundee industry ('jam, jute and journalism'). Thomson was notable for his conservatism, vigorously opposing the introduction of trade unions into his workforce, and for refusing to employ Catholics.

I absolutely love this!!! I have so much nostalgia for The Broons. Reading them and Oor Willie in The Sunday Post after dinner and my homework! The cover is wonderful, and it features the entire Broon clan. The little individual stories are fun. They're very funny, and I had lots of laugh-out-loud moments. It follows a year in the life of the family. The artwork insight is basic black and white, and it works! The drawings are gorgeous, and the attention to detail is fantastic. The Broons live at 10 Glebe Street in a fictional town called Auchentogle! They also have the odd visit to their wee holiday cottage, the But and Ben! The characters are brilliant, and they just make this! We have Maw & Paw, their eight children, Hen, Joe, Maggie, Daphne, Horace, The Twins & Bairn and Paw's dad, Granpaw. I love what the family gets up to. Also, we get the odd wee cameo from Oor Wullie, which I love! I definitely recommend it, but the Scottish words and how they speak will probably be tricky for anyone outside Scotland!!

I love The Broons, I’ve been reading their annuals for years. Over time the cartoonist has changed some of the features of the characters which I don’t necessarily like, but nothing stays the same. Goodreads has this as 100 pages it’s actually 95.

I took my time with this and read a few pages at at a time when I needed a pick me up and The Brooms never fail to make me smile and laugh. I love that it is also in Scots as well which always makes this better for me to read in my more natural tongue.

Timeless. I love these characters. A lovely collection of comic strips as Scotland's favourite family turns 90.
