At Ljómur, surrounded by mates, we saw firsthand how fate could rewrite lives in an instant. We never thought it would claim us too.
Everything was perfect. Bash was my peace, my home, and the one person who saw through every layer I hid behind. Until the day I shattered it all. Four years ago, I sent him away without explanation and forced him to believe our love had been a lie.
Now our group needs Bash’s brilliant mind, and since the military believes I’m dead... I'm the perfect ghost to retrieve him.
When I agree to find him, I brace for hatred, rejection, protest, and tears. But all my practiced detachment and unbothered smiles don't prepare me for facing him again.
The Fates have dragged us back together, tearing open old wounds in a world on the brink of fallout. With the scars I bear and the secrets I keep, is it too late to reclaim what we lost? Or can a broken mate find his way back to the only heart that ever made him whole?
G. Eilsel started writing under this pen name in early 2024, publishing works in two genres she loves: eccentric novellas and MM romance.
Her writing puts a focus on sarcasm, snarky humor, sometimes horrible puns, and steamy scenes that'll make your momma blush. Expect heavy spice, in any sort of variety you're looking for-sweet, emotional, depraved, or downright questionable.
Some of her books are one-handed reads with minimal plot, others are more intricate stories that weave themselves through her brain and demand to be put on paper. Angsty and emotional, light and giggle-inducing, and everything in between can be found between the covers of her books.
She doesn't take herself too seriously, throwing pieces of her humor and quirky personality in her writing. If she can't live up to her title of a One-Handed author, then maybe she can at least make you smile.
4.25⭐️ The mysterious and grumpy Xeni gets his story told in book 4 of the Mate’s Mark series! This book follows Xeni in his quest to get his mate back, after being separated by a tragic event. We dive deeper into Xeni’s past as we embark on a mostly-successful road trip with him. In this book we meet a ton of new characters, and learn a little more about the world!
You’ll also find fun content like: -yearning -second chance -secrets and lies -sacrifice -fun anatomy and piercings 👀 -action and revenge
This is such an excellent series, and I was so excited to get into book 4! My favourite part of the book is the deep, aching love that Xeni and Bash have for each other. Their love is established early, and therefore the romantic plot line hits hard. There’s no doubt these two love each other. They’re so tender 🥲
In terms of plot, this book gave us something fresh and new. I feel like this series does a great job of making sure the plots of each book aren’t too similar. This one gave us a peek into a city, which was really interesting. Getting to know a little more about the city’s politics was cool.
Overall vibe? While the previous book was a mix between emotional pain and my heart bursting with warmth, this one had my heard beating with intensity (the angst!!) and piquing my interest more. It also felt like it had a slightly more serious tone than the previous book!
There are a lot of new characters, which was mostly necessary for this book. However, I found myself really missing the already large cast of characters established in books 1-3, and found it a little harder to connect with the new ones. That being said, there were two new characters that I was really curious about, and am excited to learn more about in upcoming books!
The overarching plot seems to be slowly be building in each book, and I can’t wait to get deeper into it! Each character has distinct and diverse personality, and I can’t wait to see how the new and older characters interact. 😍 Love this series!
Xeni really had me on a roller coaster of emotions. Tore up my heart and spit it out, but of course taped together at the end.
How does one live without there better half? How do you go on living when your soul mate in every sense of the word sent you away. How do you truly move on when you thought you did what was best but wind up breaking you both.
Xeni and Bash are fated mates but aren’t together as such, they were torn apart both their hearts broken with so many lies fitted between mostly from Xeni. I have had a soft spot for Xeni since we met him in Elas and was waiting for his story because I knew he was a broken man but under it all so misunderstood.
Them two together was so explosive and sweet at the same time, Xeni is such a different person when he’s with Bash and wants nothing more then to be forgiven and when Bash learn the truth behind the betrayal he realizes how much Xeni truly did love him.
I cried, laughed, squealed and cried some more, this story really proved that love truly wins in the end no matter the differences and no matter the tragedy love will always conquer fall and the Fates never have it wrong.
Loved meeting all the new characters and seeing all the other couples I love this little family they’ve all built together, I have such an emotional bound to them and have all the good feels when reading about them again.
This series so so unique and I don’t know Leslie add all the goods in every book and makes a masterpiece everytime!
Somehow, the books in this series just keep getting better and better.
I’m glad I started reading it in the morning, because there’s no way I would have been able to sleep before finishing it. It was an emotional rollercoaster - so many tears ( both ugly sobbing and happy tears), so much laughter - just an incredible read all-around. (Is it too early to decide my favourite read of 2026?)
This book felt slightly different from the others (not in a bad way), since Xeni and Bash were already mated. But god their story - the chapters about their past, and the struggles when meeting again - so much longing, the desire to be accepted, all while being terrified of rejection. Seeing Xeni shed the safety net of the mask he has been hiding behind for so long was such a joy.
And Bash’s friends? Chef’s kiss. Every single one of them. I hope we’ll see more of them and the characters from previous books in the books to come.
Although, many tissues were sacrificed while reading this book, I would love to be able to read it again for the first time. Alas I guess patiently (Xeni’s levels of patience) waiting for the next one in the series will have to suffice.
‼️First off, always check your TW/CWs. Your mental health matters and this one is HEAVY. ‼️
I did not expect going in to this one to fall as hard and as fast as I did. When I tell you I was hooked from the very beginning, I mean PAGE 1.
Prior to this, Xeni was a “take it or leave it” character for me. It would have made no difference if we’d gotten his book or not. BUT NOW!?!? Oof, Xeni is the true definition of never judge a book by its cover. {Although both his metaphorical & actual book cover are beautiful} And his & Bash’s story will crush your soul only to put you back together again in the most beautifully painful of ways.
Ronan was sassy spice Elas was lovingly righteous Nyx was empowering romance But Xeni.. Xeni is quiet devotion in catastrophic destruction
A love that is so selfless in its devotion that even the sands of times nor the fates themselves could stop them from going home.
WOW. Wow wow wow. This was probably one of the best books I have read in such a long time. If I could rate it higher than 5 stars I would. Xeni was EVERYTHING we needed him to be. And his path to healing... beautiful. And BASH!? HELLO. He was the perfect match for Xeni in every single way and the pure love and adoration they had for one another was a thing of epic proportions. There was so much angst, longing, heartache, groveling, and love that you were never bored with one single word. This is type of book that after you finish it, you immediately wish you could read it again for the first time. Please do yourself a favor and READ THIS BOOK!! You will not be disappointed one bit!
I loved everything about this book. You have two absolutely broken men getting a second chance with the love of their life. They have to fight for it, and it is so worth it. I think this does a great job of showing self-harm without going overboard. Always check your triggers because this has some, but it was so good. I love how complicated Xeni is as a character. He is so soft, but you would not have known that prior to reading this book. Honestly, the action was amazing, and the love story was flawless.
Well, she's done it again, another brilliant installment to what has become one of my favourite series. These boys just broke my heart! They went through so much, their HEA was so hard fought but that makes it all the more worth it in the end. I'm loving the expansion of world building in this book and seeing what's going on in other parts. The end of this book has left me hankering for more, I can't wait to see whats to come! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
How do you rate a book that speaks straight to your soul? How do you show appreciation for one of the best books you’ve ever read and without a doubt, your favorite to date? No amount of stars could ever capture how deeply I loved Xeni & Bash and the emotional rollercoaster their journey awakened in me. This was raw, emotional, and devastatingly beautiful.
Thank you G. Eilsel for the ARC, this is my honest review that doesn't quite make justice to this story.
Full review tomorrow when I've like decompressed and am able to be more coherent than "AHHHH I love this".
Some quick feelings: - While Elas remains my one true monster love, this book has swept right into my favorite of the series (and honestly one of my favorites of all time). - If there was a 6 star option, this would be on it. - IT HURT SO GOOD.
before: I don't think 5 stars will be enough for this book, but well goodreads fault. Xeni will have every single trope I love and honestly I'm not ready for it, I know he'll just break my heart and fix it next and I don't even care *insert crying out loud emoji*.
after: Once again, G wrote this beautifully—and I say that about every book because it’s true. I nearly finished it in one sitting, so if you haven’t started this series yet, you’re truly missing out. In Xeni, we’re introduced to a new mated couple, and once again the story feels emotional, raw, and deeply profound. I’m always mesmerized by how G writes relationships with such longing and deep connection, it just gets better every time.
