(This is book 10 in the Pride & Prejudice and Potions Series.)
Wickham was never the heroic type. But when murder shakes his small town, he’d rather face the killer himself than risk his fae-witch wife getting hurt.
Since becoming a vampire, George Wickham’s life is a mess of secrets, suspects, and supernatural trouble—the last incident left him married to the clever, spunky Lydia Bennet. But his life is too dangerous to promise her anything lasting, no matter how much he wants to.
Then a dead body turns up on his doorstep meant to frame him.
Determined to protect his new wife at all costs, Wickham throws himself into finding the real killer, even if it also means pushing her away. As he navigates a meddling sire, a clingy ex, a nosy neighbor, and a secret society of baking-obsessed vampires, Lydia refuses to be left behind.
Danger is closing in, and Wickham’s heart is already too entangled. But with a murderer on the loose and Lydia involved, walking away is the one thing he can’t do.

I really enjoyed getting Wickham’s perspective in this installment and seeing Lydia and Wickham’s story continue from the other side. It added a surprising amount of depth to their relationship and made the events of the previous book feel richer and more layered. I especially liked that a new mystery takes centre stage again, with Wickham fully leaning into protecting Lydia while also grappling with his own secrets and insecurities. The balance of cosy mystery, supernatural chaos and romance worked really well for me and the humour woven throughout kept it feeling light even when the stakes were higher. Overall, this series continues to be a lot of fun and I’m loving how each book builds on the last without feeling repetitive.

My goodness was this a ROLLER COASTER of feelings haha! I loved our first male POV in the series and I’m so glad I’ve read all of the books in order because I was able to tie certain backstory events back into this story, it was super fun!
As for Wickham, I love you, you stressed me out, I was mad at you, I was confused, I literally felt every emotion that he was going through and it made me feel so connected to him. Poor guy had to make decisions that nobody should ever make in order to protect the person he loves the most. This was such a cute and short mystery that literally had me on my toes the whole time, who is the killer and why do they want Wickham in jail?!
I've never liked Wickham, like most Pride and Prejudice readers, so getting me to like him in this book was a long shot. I still don't like him, or Lydia really, but getting to see how he felt about their relationship first-hand helped. The mystery was harder to follow in this one, but it could have been because I was more focused on all the vampire lore.
The guys are finally getting their chance to tell their stories in the final few installments in the "Pride & Prejudice & Potions" series.
When Wickham and Lydia return from the ski resort they were hiding out at to avoid a killer, they discover a body drained of blood waiting for them on their doorstep. This could only be the work of a vampire, which means someone is trying to set Wickham up. The start to their marriage isn't turning out all that great, so Wickham is desperate for an annulment. When Lydia refuses, Wickham ghosts his wife as her hunts the new murderer in the hope that he can keep her safe from his enemies.
This one had quite a different feel than the rest of the books in this series. Usually, we get to see the love story between two characters who have recently met unfold, but this one acts as a second half to Wickham and Lydia's romance. It was a tad strange not having a couple working in tandem to solve this case for most of this book, but it was insanely rewarding when Wickham and Lydia finally reunited again. Most of the book may not have been super cozy and cute, but it was nice to see Lydia and Wickham form even stronger bonds than most of the characters get to on page.
As expected, a ton was revealed about the lore of vampires in this world. Wickham has the ability to use his song to persuade people to do his bidding, has superior senses, and can move faster than average. The fact that he can survive on just eating rare meat is definitely a good thing, though a dose of human blood every now and then helps restore his energy immensely. I'm always curious to figure out how different authors approach vampires, and it seem Curtis and the gang have pretty typical ones inhabiting their world.
The murder mystery in this one has got to be one of the most distant ones in this series. I literally had no idea who this guy was, and even after finishing the book, I still really can't tell you who he was. The killer was trying to frame Wickham and/or his fellow vampires, so at least he had a huge motive for catching the culprit.
Overall, "Wickham's Story" wasn't my favorite in the "Pride & Prejudice & Potions" universe, but it was nice to give Lydia the happy ending that she deserved. Learning more about vampires in this world was also super neat. It was refreshing to get into one of the guy's head for the first time, and I'm so excited to read Charles and Darcy's stories next! I can't believe there are only two books left!
This story picks up right where book 9, Lydia's story left off. The newlyweds are back in Austen Heights, where Wickham has every intention of ending the marriage, as he believes Lydia deserves better than him. Unfortunately, Wickham has yet more bad luck, when they drive up and find a body on his doorstep, drained of blood. It looks like someone is trying to frame Wickham and out him as a vampire. Wickham wants Lydia as far from this as possible, but Lydia will not be deterred, even if Wickham wants to break things off, Lydia still wants to help him clear his name.
It was fun to read about another paranormal species within Austen Heights, and I just love the "Midnight Kitchen Society" baking club! Since vampires are illegal in this society, they have to keep their vampirism a secret, therefore they created their secret baking society. I always enjoy a new take on a paranormal creature, and found this version one that would make being a vampire not so bad! Well, other than society hating them. While previous stories have portrayed Wickham as a potentially untrustworthy character, we finally get to understand everything about him. As Wickham and Lydia are on the search for clues to find the murderer, Wickham starts to think an annulment may not be what he wants. And Lydia, she is an awesome character, as we know from her own story, and she could care less that Wickham is a vampire. She is determined to stay married to Wickham, and even risks her life to help solve the murder mystery.
This story has an action packed ending, so you will have to read to find out how it ends! As always I am excited for the next book!
Some fav quotes: "Her blood was one of the many enticing things about her, a vibrant mix of tang and roses."
"No crying, no whining. Only fire and determination. That was Lydia. I couldn't help but admire her."
"This wild, crazy, unapologetic woman was the most beautiful creature I'd ever met."
""But if anything were to happen to you, I don't know what I would do. Don't you understand? You've captured my heart in a way nobody else has, even when I've tried so hard not to let it.""
"The instant our lips met, a surge of emotion rolled through me-warmth bloomed in my chest, cutting through the crisp cold like fire catching flames."
""Yes, from the moment I saw you, I determined you'd be the person I'd marry and spend my life with." This woman."
Thank you so much to the author for a copy of this book!
This book was a really fun continuation of Lydia and Wickham's story, told from Wickham's point of view. Even if you've never liked Wickham before, this book does a great job of showing who he really is beneath his reputation. Seeing his thoughts, fears, and choices made him feel more real and helped explain a lot of his past behavior.
The story picks up right where the last book ended and jumps straight into another murder mystery, this time with even more supernatural elements. Wickham is once again caught in the middle of the chaos and trying to protect Lydia while also dealing with his own secrets. The mystery has plenty of twists, and the magic and vampire lore add an interesting layer to the story.
Lydia continues to be strong, stubborn, and loyal, refusing to give up on Wickham even when he pushes her away. Their relationship feels earned, and watching them work together as a team was one of the best parts of the book.
Overall, this was a cozy, fast-paced read with humor, romance, and just enough danger to keep things exciting. It adds depth to the series, makes Wickham much easier to understand (and even like), and leaves you excited to see where the rest of the Bennet sisters' stories will go next.
Hello, people! First of all, let me mention that this book is the tenth book in the Jane Austen Cozy Mysteries series: Pride & Prejudice & Potions. The protagonists are Lydia and Wickham in this story as well. In essence, it is a continuation of their story (by another author this time, and that is exciting in itself because it is terribly difficult to continue the story of another creator). A murder by a creature of the night (a vampire) comes to incriminate Wickham once again. I really liked the idea that vampires have different powers and abilities. Something that surprised me particularly. The author makes a fantastic immersion in Wickham's inner world and his fears. The mystery is pervasive in the story, it has a strong element of humor and the book is read without breathing. These, alone, are enough to give the reader satisfaction and make them love the book. They are not the only elements, however. It is a set of things, as the author's writing is smart and there is also the combination with the cozy atmosphere and magic.
Thank you very much to the author and @lauramdrakebooks for the eARC!
Some believe that no one can have — or deserve — everything they want, and that luck always changes eventually. That seems to be the case with Wickham. The same luck that opens doors also makes him the favorite topic wherever he goes and the first to be met with suspicion. All because his reputation paints him as someone who only stays around while people remain useful to him.
But the truth — and the life he actually lives — is not exactly what everyone thinks they know. Behind the secrets lie difficult choices and feelings he struggles to keep under control. This time, however, Wickham is no longer willing to accept the same ending without a fight, because now there is someone he truly wants.
Wickham's story picks up right where Lydia's left off. Like, literally. Picks it up right in the car conversation. 😄
I really enjoyed how Lydia's and Wickham's stories and their marriage have fit with the OG Pride & Prejudice, and how that scandal has been incorporated into this cozy mystery! Even so, we get Wickham's side of his past behavior, so we get a redeemed Wickham in the end. We also get to see a growth arc with Wickham, which is nice.
Really enjoyed this cozy, its depth, and the love between these two fiery, stubborn characters!

Thanks to the author for the early copy! All opinions are my own.
I received this book as an advanced reader copy and want to thank the author for letting me be a part of that team. So in the beginning of this book I did not like Wickham he seemed so opposite from the man we met and saw in Lydia’s story. Throughout the book I realized he was so different because he was afraid for Lydia’s safety and wanted to make sure being associated to him wasn’t going to hurt her in the end. Honestly by the end of the book I would have to say that their relationship is as cute as everyone else’s so far. Now that we are really getting into the end of these books I can’t wait to read about the last two Bennet sisters finally getting their happily ever after.
Newlyweds Lydia Bennett and George Wickham arrive home to a body drained of blood on their doorstep. Wickham panics as he and Lydia had just solved the murders he was previously accused of and moves the body. Can they solve the murder mystery before Lydia is next? Why is Wickham being targeted and who else knows he's a vampire?
A cute cozy mystery with some interesting twists and turns. Love the Jane Austen theme. Best to read these in order to avoid spoilers. Strong female characters and growth from the main male character. Love that he finds a way to use what he thought was his curse to help.
I received an ARC copy but my opinions are my own.
I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review:
Pride, Prejudice, and Potions: Wickham’s Story (Book 10) continues Lydia and Wickham’s romance as they work together to uncover who is behind the recent murders. After making a deal to investigate together, the story delves into Wickham’s past, exploring broken friendships and relationships that have shaped his apprehensions about love. The mystery and romance are well-balanced, keeping the pages turning, and I found myself fully invested in seeing how their story unfolds. A compelling addition to the series that keeps both suspense and heart at the forefront.
genre: Cozy paranormal romance rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 💋 No smut, just hot kisses
📖abt the book: *Pride & Prejudice retelling *Supernatural beings & enchantment *Fae-Vampire x half fae/half witch *Murder mystery *Established couple
🏍️my thoughts: There's something about the way that J writes that you can FEEL the sensuality between the couple in her books. Obviously this story was a continuation of Wickham and Lydia's Story, but you can see J's magic from Mary's Story which also had a bit of sensual tension.
We pick up almost right when Lydia's Story leaves off, with Lydia and Wickham returning to Austen Heights. Though, despite their mutual attraction, Wickham fights his feelings for Lydia so he can protect her from his world. Lydia, as stubborn as she is in both her Story and the original story, fights him at every step to show him that they were meant to be. All while Wickham has to solve yet another murder on his doorstep. Literally.
It's bittersweet with the series coming to an end with only two books left, Charles' Story and Darcy's Story. Though we'll see Wickham and Lydia at least mentioned in the upcoming books (hopefully), I wish there was more to their stories. For example, what happens with Wickham's sire? We know that Lydia ends up going to live in Wickham's house, but will his ex really let that happen without doing anything? And I want more of the Midnight Kitchen Society.
Join me in falling in love with Austen Heights and the Pride & Prejudice & Potions series that only has two books left!!
Thank you J. Ann Curtis for allowing me the chance to read an advanced copy of Wickham's Story.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This was a fabulous twist on the Wickham / Lydia storyline, and showing the truth behind his villainous backstory. It's a compelling story exploring his fears, struggles and vulnerability, and how he pushes people away to try and protect them. I also loved seeing Lydia's determination and bravery, and problem solving skills. Wickham has been framed for murder (again), and this time he'll need the help of his friends and new family to prove his innocence. It's a cosy murder mystery, with magic, mayhem, and stubborn characters.
Wickham story continues on from where Lydia’s story finished. It’s another great book in this series. This one looks from Wickham side. The book is well written and very engaging right from the start and you just want to keep reading the next page the next chapter to find out what happens in Wickham and Lydia’s story. Throughly enjoyed and I look forward to the next chapter in this series.
I received this arc from the author and this is my honest opinion
A very fun read. I very much enjoyed hearing things from Wickham's perspective and the more supernatural focus. There of course is still the murder mystery and Wickham trying to deal with his feelings for Lydia and protect her while Lydia was still strong and knew they belonged together and wanted to prove his innocence. The blending of all this together was done really well. I felt it fleshed out there story more and added depth to their characters and love story.
Thank you to the author for an early copy all opinions are my own.
Wickham’s Story is a cozy fantasy romance with mystery, magic, romance and whimsical winter vibes. This story was so cute and so good! The romance is sweet and feels very realistic for a marriage of convenience. The murder mystery kept me on my toes and was so fun to read. This was a wonderfully crafted retelling in a short span of pages, and I can’t wait to dive into the next installment in this Jane Austen cozy mystery standalone series! Thank you so much Michelle Cowart for a copy of this book!
A continuation of Lydia's story. As the author revealed Wickham's point of view, his character was further developed here - his past, present, struggles and concerns; that eventually explained his dynamcis with the rest of the characters. It's beautiful to see both Wickham and Lydia grew on each other and comfirms where her presence stands. Whatever that the author is doing, many page has swept my heart with mixture of tangy emotions. Thank you for the opportunity to review the book in advance.
Really enjoyed learning about Wickham. I liked hearing his side of the story after he was made out to be a player and only after money. It was heartwarming seeing how Lydia refused to give up on him, even though he continued to push her away to keep her safe. Seeing him get cleared up from all the rumors, make up with Lydia and Darcy was really sweet. Im so happy Wickham had a new start, one without judgement of rumors.
Wickham believed he couldn't have it all. But some things are more powerful. This murder mystery has you wondering if Wickham and Lydia will stay together. Who the killer is? And how Wickhams luck could get any worse. The twist keep you engaged. The details keep your vision of the story developing until the end. It's also nice to have a love story told through the male perspective. Definitely a story to add to your TBR.
This was another really enjoyable installment in the Pride & Prejudice & Potions series, picking up right where the last book left off and shifting the focus to Wickham.
I loved getting to know Wickham on a deeper level, especially watching him struggle with being a vampire. We learn more about how he was turned, who was responsible, and how vampires are viewed in this world, which, honestly, isn’t great. I also really enjoyed seeing his relationship with Darcy start to come around, as with the Bennet sisters.
The mystery definitely took a bit of a backseat in this one, but I didn’t mind at all. The heart of the story was Wickham trying to navigate his love for Lydia while also trying to protect her from his world. I loved that Lydia never gave up on him and stood by his side no matter what, even after his insistence on an annulment.
I’m already looking forward to the next book in the series!
book 10 in the Pride & Prejudice and Potions Series
The guys are finally getting their chance to tell their stories, this is George Wickham’s story. He’s never been one to be liked in pride and prejudice.
Wickham & Lydia return from the ski resort that they have been hiding out at to avoid a killer. Only to discover a body drained of blood waiting for them on their doorstep.
This one has vampires, fae, magic, baking, secret society, clingy exs, found family and more.
I really wasn't sure going into the story how I would feel about Lydia and Wickham because of who they are and how they act in the original story. The author did a wonderful job portraying them true to Jane Austen's characters, but it also working in a fun way that made sense for a fun and magical retelling! I loved how we got more focus on the magic and more that can happen with it too.
Oh Wickham…I‘m really feeling for him. Something I never thought I would after all the other adaptions I‘ve read or saw. But this author really gave him a wonderful story!
Gave him not just a mystery to solve (a great one yet again) but also a redemption arc, friendship and a family.
Also, he kinda reminded me a bit of the Vampire Lestat. A coincidence? ;) Loved that!
This book is enchanting in every way. The delicious tension keeps you turning the pages, the emotional depth is awesome, and the romance is lovely. Lydia and Wickham are perfect for each other and I loved the compulsion spell!
A review copy of this book was sent to me by the author. All of the above opinions are my own.
Another great story in this series. I enjoy reading the new magic in this book. The love stones and how it bonds Lydia and Wickham together is cute. Learning more about Vampires and Fae was fun. Seeing the Pride and Prejudice story interwoven through this fantasy continues to be fun. I look forward to reading the last books to see how everything works out in this fantasy town.
Gosh I really just loved all of these books. I really wished the character would have had their own books so I am so happy these authors did just that. Now I don’t love Wickham nor Lydia but I absolutely loved seeing into his mind for his thought and feelings. Definitely recommend this entire series
unfortunately I didn't care for this one as much as I did the others. Wickham and Lydia just aren't my favorite characters. and I didn't like the way Wickham tried to push Lydia away. Ann annulment? that's harsh. but I did like the mystery and the hunt for the person that was trying to set him up for the murder. and always, the humor was great. still looking forward to the last two.
This book made me like Wickham even more than I already did! It gave great context to everything said about him in previous books. It also reinforced how great him and Lydia are as a team! I was very invested in the mystery of this particular book in the series and cannot wait for the next one!
Wickham is so broody and really leans into his fae stereotypes! But then again, that could be all the murders in Austin Heights talking. It was really interesting to see his perspective on married life with Lydia while battling with family dramas at the same time.
