In ancient Yerushalayim, Tehilla lives under the unyielding rule of her husband, Nebedeus, a powerful Perushim whose home is governed by obedience, fear, and a distant, demanding Adonai. Isolated within stone walls and sacred law, her only comforts are secret letters from a childhood friend and the joy of her infant son.
When whispers reach the city of a teacher named Yeshua, one who speaks not of burdensome laws, but of a loving Abba and a kingdom found within, Tehilla’s carefully contained world begins to fracture. Nebedeus brands the man a dangerous blasphemer, yet the new teacher's words ignite something Tehilla has long hope.
Now, as Yeshua is rumoured to walk the streets of Yerushalayim itself, Tehilla faces a decision that could cost her everything. Remain silent and safe within her cage of devotion, or risk her marriage, her child, and her life to hear the truth that may finally set her soul free.
Tehillah by Elizabeth Faye deeply touched my heart. Tehillah goes through truly horrific experiences, and it is painful to witness anyone endure domestic violence—especially the kind of pain that keeps you trapped even when everyone around you says, “Leave.” It’s a form of suffering that’s difficult to explain and even harder to understand unless you’ve lived it.
The book started off a bit confusing for me, but once I found my footing, the story moved quickly. The suspense was engaging, and I found myself reading rapidly, eager to see how everything would unfold.
My favorite part was the ending. I loved how Elizabeth Faye connected Tehillah’s story to the time when our Lord Jesus walked the earth. Reading about Jesus in a fictional context felt both beautiful and deeply real, and it stirred my imagination about what life might have been like during His time.
If you enjoy stories that bring the Bible to life in a vivid and emotionally engaging way, I highly recommend this book. It was absolutely worth the read.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Tehilla: Woman of Yerushalayim is a moving and emotionally layered story that explores faith, freedom, love, and personal awakening within an ancient historical setting.
What stood out most was the contrast between fear based control and the hope and compassion represented through Yeshua’s message.
Tehilla’s emotional journey feels intimate and compelling, making the story especially engaging for readers who enjoy faith inspired historical fiction with strong emotional depth.
