Molly’s first day back at school. Madison’s first time letting go.
Then the lights went out… and America died.
Now highways are graveyards. Cities burn. And a mother must cross hell itself to reach her daughter before it’s too late. In a world of EMP survival and post-apocalyptic struggle, hope is the fuel that keeps her alive.
There was an EMP attack, then entire book was about finding a daughter and a Vet who was getting Alzheimer's. Didn't really enjoy, I skimmed through.. Disappointed
This post apocalyptic story was pretty good. The characters and storylines were immensely entertaining. The action was top notch. There was a big aspect of the storyline of Rick that I’ve not seen in any other post apocalyptic stories. There was a bit too much tedium with the emotional roller coaster of emotions from the mother. I get it, she was frantic but too many paragraphs were filled with the same description over and over. That was tiresome and I skipped over quite a lot when the emotional description was rehashed again and again. There was little explanation on how the mother learned how to handle herself in a crisis, ie use of a gun, avoiding crowds, accessing danger levels, and having a bug out bag. The storyline of the daughter was emotional and tension filled. There were some discrepancies towards the end of the story that didn’t add up for the health and injuries of the mother as well as the daughter. Overall, in many ways, the book had a great new spin on surviving the 1st few days of an EMP disaster and that the love of a mother for her child is unbreakable even through so many challenges, twists and turns of being apart and reuniting again.
Story line kept me interested but frustrated with inconsistencies. There were a lot of them along the way. A lot of contradictions. Like first the school was 10 miles away. Then it was 3 miles. First there were 4 caskets and then 5. There was smoke at one of the cabins but then it was deserted, Madison was going to walk to the next cabin then got on her horse, they had to ride the horses through rough terrain but there were roads to the cabins, etc. I am a detail person so the inconsistencies did bother me. But the weren’t any spelling errors like a lot of the books have so a positive. Also a lot of repetition with Madison continually saying she was going to go through hell to find her daughter every other paragraph it seemed.
I'm not a prepper although I believe the apocalypse could happen at any time. I don't much worry about it. I just read this book because it was cheap and curiosity. Was it a waste of money? Well no, although there were some times I felt the author took the reader a bit to far and just over the edge. The build up of events seemed to stretch and expand and crumble repetitively. I began to know and expect the outcome of each thread that evolved like clockwork. Nevertheless, I did learn about the absolute evolution of societal disintegration, scary to be sure. It kept my attention with the above caveats. I tend to shy away from novels for these reasons, but it was fairly believable to its credit. I don't think I'll read another for a long time.
This book scared the crap out of me!! I know it was fiction but I was gripping my kindle so hard, it sure didn't feel like ficfion! Remarkable description of the terror of an EMP! I felt transported to a he'll on earth. The fires, the killing and the human society that becomes a "me" attitude! The starvation and the hopes of mankind spiraling in to total madness! Don't read this alone, without tissues or just before bed! I kid you not, this packs a punch that you'll never forget!!!!!
I absolutely loved this book. The pace was so quick, creative, and cleverly worded. The focus on human connections made this book enthralling. I now want to read all of William Stone’s books! His style reminds me of Jaqueline Druga and Darcy Coates. I am so glad this author was recommended to me on Kindle. I cannot wait to get lost in another fast paced story, with magnificent reminders of what matters most.
A quiet, thought-provoking novel about a sudden global loss of communication and the emotional fallout that follows. Instead of action or explanations, the story focuses on isolation, uncertainty, and how deeply people rely on constant connection.
This book is one of those very special ones that grabs you at the first page and continues to the last period! Guarantee to make you cry, hope, get mad, get scared, feel hope! Grab this book, A cup of hot chocolate and be prepared to read and read and read. You won't want to put it down! Enjoy!
This is my problem and NOT the author of the book!
Got through about 20% of the book and put it down. By any name….same old/same old. If you have read many of these Armageddon books they tend to all be the same. There are only so many ways you can tell the story of the coming EMP.
William Stone is a good author! But this one just didn’t click.
This book was extremely emotional And looked back and forth throughout the book It was hard for me to read this I had to skip chapters it's not Written bad it was written good but just something that wasn't my style and I love Pepper survival thrillers
This is an amazing story of the power of a mothers love and determination. Then you add in the courage and bravery of a small child and a teenager--you can't put it down!
A child is lost. A mother must find her in a world destroyed.
I enjoyed the premise of this book. It needed more action to avoid being repetitive. It contained numerous discrepancies that an editor or first reader would have brought attention to. I remained committed to the end.
Gripping, kept me stuck to the book. Another good end of the world tale. Madison could have spiraled less. Every step made her lose it. That part was a bit annoying. Still a good book.
Madison had lost everyone except her daughter Molly. Then the EMP struck and Molly was gone. The quest to find her and a new friend, Rick, h Yelp the search. Mr. Stone wrote a look about the lengths a mother will go to find her daughter.
It was "ok". The story was fine, but that was it. Nothing riveting that kept you turning the pages. Its one of those books were you read better and you read worse. If your looking for a stand alone book about finding your loved one in the EMP dilemma this is the book for you. It has a HEA.
I loved this story and didn't want it to end. It is a fresh story line in the apocalypse genre. The writing was superb and I can't say enough good things about it!
I generally love William Stone’s books and this one was okay. It is in need of editing, I had to keep going back and reread due to many inconsistencies. Also, Stone seemed to “ramble” on in parts of the book.
As a fan of EMP survival novels I have to say the story line and characters are fantastic! Like the rest of the really good ones this will keep you up late.
Loved the journey of mom finding her daughter, and the old man was my favorite character. Reminded me of my papaw :). I would recommend but I don’t think I like this more than apocalypse books, not enough action (even though she went through a lot). Easy read, really liked how the chapters were short so I felt that I was getting through it in a timely manner! I didn’t not like how long it was lol, it definitely could’ve been condensed.
Not sure if I’ll read more from this author but an interesting EMP book!!
