She's a witch who can’t fall in love without getting her heart broken. He holds a grudge like no other.

Bookstore owner Rosie Mayfield wants a love of her own, but it’s not meant to be––because of her family's curse. To break it, she conjures a ghost who will break her curse, but for a cost––she has to brew a potion to help him transition to the other side. The problem? There’s only one person who hates Rosie in all of Heartwood Hollow, and she needs his help to complete the required task.

Jack Haggerty, the ghost’s grandson, has lamented about Rosie for years––she’s a disaster and she’s forbidden from visiting his gaming shop. He doesn’t believe in ghosts, so he’s stunned when his beloved grandfather makes an appearance. While he loves his family and will do anything to help his grandpa, he fights against the chemistry brewing between him and Rosie until he can’t anymore. But he doesn’t know how to tell her he no longer wants to go through with the plan, and she won’t admit that she’s falling for him because they’re doomed from the start.

Morgan is a born and raised Jersey girl, living there with her two boys, toddler daughter, and mechanic husband. She’s addicted to iced espresso, barbecue chips, and Starburst jellybeans. She usually has headphones on, listening to some spicy audiobook or Taylor Swift. There is rarely an in between.

Writing has been her calling for as long as she can remember. There’s a framed ‘page one’ of a book she wrote at seven hanging in her childhood home to prove the point. Her entire life she’s crafted stories in her mind, begging to be released but it wasn’t until recently she finally gave them the reigns.

I’m so grateful you’ve agreed to take this journey with me.

So this one was really going great, but I was afraid to read more without looking for some safety details about him, and I’m not interested anymore I guess.

He had a friends with benefits situation with a woman in their town. And while she had lots of boyfriends (thank God!!!!!), I hate his past history so fucking much. Seriously I hate when mmcs’ past hookups are from the same town, and then they appear in the story. NO!

“I have… an in. I can make an appointment and scan over the datebook when I do.” Phillip lets out an amused sound, but I ignore it, turning fully to Jack.
“An in?”
That all too familiar blush burns across his cheeks before he nods and explains. “I used to date Jeanette.”
My body stills, a mix of confusion and another emotion I won’t look at too closely taking over.
“The receptionist?”
He nods.
“Jeanette Smith?” I clarify further.
He smiles and nods. I don’t… I don’t know how to handle that. Jeanette is an absolute bombshell, all tits and ass and a fuck ton of hair anyone would be jealous of, and she knows how to work all of it. The idea that Jack dated someone, someone as gorgeous and sexy and outgoing as Jeanette, just… doesn’t fit.
“When?” He reaches behind his head and scratches the back of his neck before shrugging, but answers all the same.
“I don’t know. We stopped seeing each other maybe… six months ago?”
“How long were you together?”
“Is that jealousy I’m sensing, Rosemary?” Phillip asks, and I fight the sudden urge for my jaw to go tight, instead giving the ghost the middle finger.
“No. I just…” I want to know because about eight months ago, Jeanette came into my store looking for a book. She told me she was really into some new guy she was dating and wanted to keep the happy feeling going. There was no reason not to, but for some reason, I didn’t think she was ready for a love pick. So I pointed her in the right direction of the rom-coms and let her shop on her own, not giving her a love match. It’s haunted me since, especially when Violet told me that a month later, Jeanette came into her shop upset and looking for a pick-me-up.
She’d been dumped. By Jack, it seems. And I can’t help but think part of that was my fault, that if I’d given her a love book, she would have found her magical happily ever after. Despite the guilt eating at me even now, I can’t help but feel that tiny spark of satisfaction burning in my chest. The idea that Jack is single might have something to do with me. Not that it matters. I’m cursed. I can’t fall in love. We’re just fuck buddies, as he put it. And once this curse is broken, I’ll go off on my merry way and find the true love of my life once and for all.
“I’m not jealous. I’m just… surprised. I hear all the Heartwood Hollow gossip. And you don’t… people.”
“I’ve been with women, Rosie,” Jack says with a smug smile. It takes everything in my being not to react to those words, to the idea of him having been with other women. “I just don’t date them, not really. I don’t go to dinner with them or spend nights playing video games or going on adventures with them.”
His words are pointed, his face assessing, and my stomach starts to turn in on itself. His words are so intentional, but I don’t have the guts to actually ask him, so I don’t.
Instead, I smile and widen my eyes, raising my eyebrows repeatedly. He rolls his eyes and continues on. “Anyway, I think she thought it was more than it was, so I broke it off before things got too… complicated.”
I wonder if that happens a lot, Jack making people feel special and different, only for it to be a miscommunication. A sense of relief washes through me that we won’t have that problem, not with everything coming to an end when the full moon hits, of course. I wouldn’t want a miscommunication to ruin the friendship I’m learning to value.
I give him a tight smile before turning back to the task at hand. “I’m surprised because… well, you know,” I say without meaning it.
“I don’t,” he says with a teasing smile that tells me he very much does know.
“I think you should tell me explicitly what you were surprised about.” Phillip chuckles, entertained by the back-and-forth, and I roll my eyes, trying to ignore the burning blush that is creeping down to my chest now.
“That you dated someone in town? That you’re suave enough to land a hottie like Jeanette?”
“I landed you, didn’t I?”
My pulse rockets again, and in that moment, I think he’s spending way too much time with me because he’s getting way too good at the comebacks. Who is this man across from me, and what has he done with my shy, grumpy neighbor? I clear my throat, but I’m unable to clear my mind as well.
Still, I take a deep breath and grin. “Point made.”
“We weren’t dating, per se. Well, I didn’t think we were. It was just a… benefits, thing,” Jack explains.
“Friends with benefits?”
He shrugs. “I guess you could call it that.”
It settles heavy and uncomfortable in my stomach, a foreign feeling taking root. Jealousy? Hurt? I’m not sure, but the fact that this isn’t Jack’s first foray into friends with benefits settles over me. Is this not… special to him?
“Less friends, though,” he clarifies, as if he can see the thoughts running through my mind and wants to mollify me. It doesn’t matter, though, I remind myself. This is fun. This is just friends. Friends don’t care about friends’ sexual or dating history, not really.
“So… are you sure you want to go there? Maybe I should, if there’s bad blood between you both,” I ask, trying to change the subject. “I could go and try to butter her up.”
He shakes his head. “That would be a bad idea.”
“What? Why?”
“She, uh… I don’t think she likes you.” He cringes at me, and I blink back at him.
“I’m sorry?”
He shrugs. “She doesn’t like you.”
“But I’m… I’m… I’m delightful.”
A small smile tips on Jack’s lips. “Well, she disagrees.” “Well, she’s an idiot,” I say.
Jack’s smile turns entertained, and he lets out a small laugh like he can’t fight it back before wrapping an arm around my waist and tugging me into him.
“Yeah, she is. But she’s also…” He pauses, contemplating how to say his next words before proceeding. “She came in a few days ago. Asking if I wanted to get coffee with her. See if we could… work things out. Try again.”
I lift an eyebrow taking him in skeptically, my stomach in knots at the thought of Jeanette, gorgeous Jeanette with her lustrous long hair that I could only manage with a tonic if I remembered to put it on every single night (unlikely), with her curves and her somehow flat-as-a-board stomach that I couldn’t have if I even wanted to because I will never stop eating sweet treats on the regular, and her sex kitten voice that even I think is hot, striding into the Gaming Den with reconciliation on her mind.
“And?” I ask.
“And,” he says, using a hand to smooth some of my hair back. He does that a lot, pushing hair behind my ear or my shoulder, like he’s worried it’s in my face, worried it’s bothering me. I used to wear it back when I was working to avoid just that, but I’ve found lately I’m letting it go more and more. “Before she got an answer, a small redheaded witch rushed through the doors and attacked me because she guessed the ending of her book correctly.”
I blink, trying to remember the day. I remember the book because I’d been telling him about it a few days earlier. It was the mystery and suspense romance I’d been reading after his event. When I finished the book on a slow day at the shop, I realized I’d been right and instantly needed to tell Jack about it. I flipped my sign to closed and nearly sprinted across the way to tell him.
When I work through the memory a bit, I do remember him talking to… someone, but I was so excited that I couldn’t focus on anything other than telling him. And then his arm was around my waist, and he was tugging me into his side and pressing a kiss to my hair, giving me a soft, good job, babe, so I was a bit distracted. But apparently, he was standing there with Jeanette. And she was asking him about their friends’ benefits situation, only for me to flaunt my own in her face. Oh, god, that was so uncool of me. But also, a small, very petty part of me giggles and steeples her fingers maniacally. I push her aside and put on my logical thinking hat.
“So what, you’re going to go in and flirt with her and sneak a peek at her appointment book?”
“Pretty much.” He shrugs like it’s no big deal, but I’m skeptical. This is Jack we’re dealing with, after all.
“Wanna go now?” I stare at him for another beat before shrugging reluctantly.
“Sure.” He stares at me again, then smiles wide before pulling my face into his, kissing me.

That’s about 60-66% in, he then proceeds to flirt with Jeanette (to get info but anyway). That also makes the fmc jealous. Yeah nope, I’m out. Glad my gut saved me again.

Most probably it wouldn’t be bothering me that much if:
1) fmc and mmc didn’t know each other at that time (but they did, for 3 years, and yes, I’m hypocritical since fmc had boyfriends, I don’t care)
2) that ow weren’t from their town
3) that ow never appeared in the book. But oh well.

On the plus side, like I mentioned, fmc dated lots of guys, it never worked out because of the curse.

Cozy, whimsical, and absolutely magical. 🍂✨🔮

Meet Cute Magic completely swept me away. Between the charming small-town atmosphere, the magical quest, the grumpy/sunshine romance, and all the fall vibes, this was exactly the kind of book I never wanted to end.

Rosie and Jack were adorable together. She’s a witch who helps other people find true love but can’t seem to find it for herself, while Jack is practical, analytical, and perfectly happy keeping magic in the fantasy worlds he loves. Watching them slowly fall for each other while gathering ingredients for a magical potion was sweet, funny, and completely charming.

What I loved most was how immersive the story felt. The magic, the mystery, the romance, and the whimsical atmosphere all blended together so effortlessly that I was hooked from the very beginning. Morgan Elizabeth has a way of pulling me into a story immediately, and this book was no exception.

Honestly, I already know I’ll be rereading this one when the weather gets cooler. If you’re looking for a cozy fall romance filled with magic, charm, and a little bit of adventure, this one is pure bookish comfort. 🧡🍁

The plot is very befitting of the title. It contains all the things. Pink magic, a wayward ghost, a cat who doesn’t give a damn, and a neighbourhood of hotties and future hotties.

This is cute. Super, super, super cute.

I’m kinda surprised, but I actually really liked the book. It’s super straightforward and simple, like the perfect CW show.

Witch Rosie Mayfield is cursed. Every time she tells a guy she loves him, her heart gets broken. She summons the ghost Philip, the one who cursed her grandmother, and makes a deal with him. She has to brew a potion so he can finally cross over to the other side, and in exchange she’ll get to meet her true love. The only problem is she has to team up with Philip’s grandson who totally hates her.

The whole book is really sweet and cute. The only thing is the spicy scenes felt a little out of place for me.

SPOILERS

morgan elizabeth is an auto-read author for me so when i saw this upcoming release on netgalley i immediately picked up the ARC. i loved loved loved wizards of waverly place growing up and will send alex russo GIFs in the group chat to this day. i watched twitches growing up to and was instantly here for the vibes.

her grandmother turned down a warlock for a date and in retaliation he curse her entire family line. the generational curse has every relationship a mayfield has to fail shortly after the ‘i love you’ is exchanged.

i loveee that her magic is a shimmering pink. her speciality of magic is helping people find their one true love, even though she can’t find love herself. she walks in on her boyfriend actively cheating on her which clearly marks the end of her last relationship.

rosie basically raised her younger sisters after both of their parents pass away. poppy owns a flower shop and violet owns a bakery. i don’t get why she didn’t tell them about the family curse since it would impact their love lives too.

her cat, percy, swipes his paw through the salt circle that contained the spirit. now she has her next door neighbor’s grandfather haunting her apartment and clearly meddling to get them together. i do wish we got to see more interactions with percy or if she could have spelled him to talk.

i really liked that she wanted to do joint events between both of their businesses. she came over to ship shop carrying one of her dragon books hoping to collaborate with any of his merchandise involving dragons. her idea of hosting an event together was cute and i don’t get why he would immediately turn it down. i think i would have liked the plot better if he was new to town and they were just now getting off on the wrong foot but that means he was kinda mean to her for three years.

i don’t like that he yelled at her in the beginning. he wanted her to get out of his store before she caused another incident yet i don’t get why she couldn’t have used her magic to prevent any property damage. i hope the curse was influencing his temper to make his dislikable.

i am not quite understanding the complexities of a kiss bond and what that would mean in terms of consent. i didn’t particularly like to hear him say that she wasn’t his type when he clearly is into her.

uh oh. jack betrayed her, trying to swap out the moonflowers they picked under a gibbous moon for regular flowers which would sabotage their spell. they get back together after a week a part, his coming over to support her through breaking the curse. apparently there wasn’t even a curse which is kind of a letdown. it is funny that his grandfather wanted to eat baked goods again but still.

✨The Vibe
Imagine Gilmore Girls with witches, cozy bookstores, a grumpy gamer boyfriend, magical curses, a ghost grandpa, and a cat stealing the spotlight every chance he gets.

This is the definition of a cozy fall read, and I have a feeling it'll become a seasonal favorite for a lot of readers.

📚 What the Book Is About (No Spoilers)
Rosie Mayfield dreams of finding true love, but thanks to her family's curse, happily ever after has never really been an option.

In an attempt to finally break the curse, she accidentally summons a ghost who gives her one task: brew him a potion so he can finally move on.

The only problem? She needs help from the one person in town who can't stand her.

Jack Haggerty has spent years avoiding Rosie, but when his late grandfather unexpectedly reappears, he reluctantly agrees to help. As the two work together to break the curse, they begin to discover that first impressions—and long-held grudges—aren't always what they seem.

🖤 My Reading Experience
This was my very first magical realism book, and now I'm wondering why it took me so long to pick one up.

I absolutely loved how seamlessly the magic blended into an otherwise normal world. It never felt over-the-top or overwhelming. Instead, it felt like everyday life had simply been sprinkled with a little extra magic, and honestly... I loved that.

The whole story is just incredibly warm. It's sweet, cozy, funny, and has just enough spice to keep things interesting without taking away from the comforting atmosphere. After reading so many epic fantasy books lately, this felt like the perfect palate cleanser.

Rosie and Jack were such a fun couple to follow. Rosie is sunshine in human form. She's optimistic, a little chaotic, incredibly kind, and exactly the type of person I wish I could be.

Meanwhile, Jack is much more reserved, sarcastic, and introverted. Which, if I'm being honest... I related to him a little more. 😂

Their grumpy x sunshine dynamic worked really well, and I loved how the quest to break the family curse naturally brought them closer together instead of making the romance feel forced.

The supporting characters also added so much charm to the story. Jack's grandpa was hilarious, Percy the cat completely stole my heart, just like Rosie's sisters, and together they added so much warmth and humor to an already lovable cast.

💭 What Didn't Fully Work for Me
There honestly wasn't much that didn't work for me. The beginning is a tiny bit slower as everything gets established, and there were a few moments where the characters would spend quite a while thinking during conversations. Every now and then, I'd catch myself wondering, "Wait... what was the original question again?" 😂

The story is also fairly predictable, but personally, I don't think that's a bad thing. Most cozy romances are. Sometimes you don't read a romance to be shocked—you read it because you want to spend time with lovable characters and enjoy the journey. And that's exactly what this book delivers!

🔥 Tropes & Elements
- Grumpy x sunshine
- Enemies to lovers
- Small-town romance
- Magical realism
- Cozy fall vibes

💔 Emotional Impact
Coziness level: 10/10.

This book genuinely felt like wrapping yourself in a blanket with a warm drink while autumn leaves fall outside.

🫶 Final Thoughts
Meet Cute Magic completely charmed me.

It's warm, funny, magical, and incredibly easy to read. I loved the blend of everyday life with just enough magic to make everything feel a little more whimsical, and Rosie and Jack were an absolute joy to spend time with.

If you're looking for an epic fantasy with complicated politics and massive battles, this isn't that book.

But if you're looking for something cozy, comforting, bookish, and guaranteed to put a smile on your face, I would absolutely recommend picking this up.

I have a feeling this is going to become the cozy fantasy recommendation every fall. And honestly? A gaming boyfriend and a bookish girlfriend might just be my new favorite (fictional) pairing.

📢 Disclosure: A huge thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for providing me with an ARC of Meet Cute Magic. As always, all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

This was my very first ARC! thank you to Netgalley and Union Square & Co!

This book was so cute, whimsical, fun, and full of banter. BANTER! I loved the banter here so much. I love when characters have natural chemistry in movies, tv, books anything really. It makes them feel like real people to me. Watching Rosie and Jack banter back and forth was probably the main thing that had me kicking my feet and giggling. but the banter is not the only fun part. before I get into discussing the characters, lets talk setting. this is so Halloween Town coded. and I for one love it. I remember being younger and being in love with the concept of Halloween Town, and now i am 28 years old and have a grown up version of Halloween Town. The way Morgan writes is very cool. she has a way of making you feel like you are in the pages rather than just reading them. There were sometimes she would be describing things and I could feel/smell/and hear them. The cool breeze of the streets, the sweets from Rosie's sister's bakery, the jingle of the shop bells. Morgans writing is very interactive and I love that as a story telling device.

Now, let’s discuss our characters.

First we meet Rosie. we see her in the first scene as a girlfriend coming home to her current boyfriend cheating on her! I immediately was team Rosie no matter what because that man is trash! we soon learn our best friend Rosie is cursed. she's also a witch! Her mom had turned down a warlock when they were younger and he cursed the entire female line that if they ever tell their partners they love them, the relationship will end in a week after the confession. Rosie breaks down the times she has had her heart broken because she loved a man. this has happened since she was young. Rosie is the oldest of her 2 sisters. Poppy and Violet. when their mom died Rosie stepped in to be a mom and hid the curse from them. She protected them from relationships to protect their hearts. But, who protects Rosie's heart? Rosie decides after this last heartbreak she wants this curse BROKEN. she goes back into town to go to her magical romance bookstore and figure out how to make this curse be gone forever. This is when she summons the warlock who made the curse, Phillip. This is how we meet Jack.

Jack is the Game Den shop owner across the street from Magic Meet Cute (Rosie's store.) He famously hates Rosie (yeah okay.) Jack is tall, nerdy, hot man with glasses (need him.) But, how does he get wrapped into the curse... well he has something she needs of course! Jack happens to be Phillip's grandson! Phillip has a list of things Rosie needs to collect to make the spell to break the curse, help Phillip pass on, and it has to be done by halloween... 31 days away. So ingredient one, a family flask... owned by... JACK! Rosie is a clumsy girlie and tries to go over to his store but he is very much no ma'am leave please you always break things. she's trying to make him like her so she can ask for the flask but she breaks a statue he had made and he sends her away. later that night he catches her breaking into the store trying to steal the flask. for not calling the police she has to prove to him she is a witch, and his grandpa's ghost is in her apartment.

and that's how we get this team up. Jack says he will help her and she has to let him. they go on this fun adventure to collect these ingredients to make this potion to break the curse. We get cute banter, slight hands being held, kisses, steam, and fun dates. These two are slowly falling in love. and I will not give more since you HAVE to read this book. you are missing out on one of the best Halloween Romance's I have ever had the pleasure of reading.
Please, whatever you do. GET! YOUR! HANDS! ON! THIS! BOOK!

I am SO happy that Morgan is doing her first trad pub, and that it’s a paranormal romance! This is something totally new for her, but I just thought it was so good. I genuinely think she may have found her niche because this might be my favorite Morgan Elizabeth book yet.

If Charmed, Gilmore Girls, Ghosts, and Practical Magic somehow had a baby, it would be this book. Three magical sisters, a cozy small town that gave me major Stars Hollow vibes, hilarious ghosts, romance, magic, mystery, and just enough chaos to keep things fun the entire time... see what I mean? It felt nostalgic and familiar in the best possible way, and I loved every second of it. I really enjoyed how it made me feel, which is important to me in the romance genre, because sometimes it can feel tired and overdone and same old, same old. This was refreshing!

I loved the premise of the family curse and that the one person Rosie needs to help her break it is the one man in town who supposedly doesn’t like her. Although honestly, that is pretty debatable because it was pretty clear Jack had a thing for her all along and was doing his best to avoid dealing with it. Their dynamic was so much fun! Rosie owns the cutest bright pink romance bookstore while Jack owns the dark, moody gaming shop across the street. They are literal opposites, and I loved every minute of the grumpy x sunshine energy between them.

The ghosts absolutely were wonderful and definitely a highlight for me. Phillip was so freaking funny, and Percy the cat had me laughing too! Between the magic, the mystery, the adventure, and all the nonstop hijinks, there was never a dull moment in this book. This was such a fun adventure from start to finish and just a genuinely feel good read.

I also loved Jack’s skepticism about magic. Rosie is completely all in, while Jack spends so much of the book trying to rationalize everything around him. I loved that he slowly opens himself up and it was one of my favorite parts. He starts out socially anxious, nerdy, and very much a keep to himself type of guy, and Rosie was exactly what he needed. The worldbuilding and the lore surrounding the magic in this is also fantastic, and has so much potential in future books.

“This is pure magic. Kind of like Rosie, I am beginning to realize.”

And Rosie’s speech was something I LOVED. It gave me such Notting Hill vibes and was so impactful. One of my favorite quotes in the book was: “Sometimes the most magical things are the most ordinary ones.” It fit the entire story perfectly!

And yes, Morgan absolutely delivered on the spice, but I expected nothing less from the queen herself. It was so good, so hot, and I loved the way the magical elements were woven into the romance. It felt uniquely Morgan while still being something completely new.

The twists at the end had me laughing because they were both surprising and one of those moments where I was immediately like WELL DUH! Of course, it made so much sense. It wrapped everything up in such a satisfying way and I felt like it was a great way to go in a different direction and surprise us as readers.

I just really, really loved this book! It was cozy, funny, magical, romantic, and exactly the kind of escape I needed and would make the perfect fall season read, especially since it is centered around Halloween.

Also, that little glimpse of Vi’s story made me need it immediately, but alas, I must be patient. It gave me major Tis the Season for Revenge vibes, and I am SO here for it! If you know, you know. ;)

Thank you to NetGalley, Morgan Elizabeth, and Union Square & Co. for the eARC of this book.

Meet Cute Magic
Morgan Elizabeth

Publication Date: September 8, 2026

Thank you to Union Square & Co. and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

The more I think about this book, the more I love it.

Seriously. The farther away I get from finishing it, the more convinced I become that this was a five-star read for me.

And here's the thing: I do not like magical realism. Like... ever. It's just never been my thing. So imagine my surprise when I absolutely devoured this book and immediately wanted more.

The second I saw Morgan Elizabeth was writing a magical romance, I knew I needed it. Then I started reading and somehow it managed to exceed all of my expectations.

Rosie Mayfield is a witch cursed to never find lasting love. Every relationship ends in heartbreak, so when she summons the ghost responsible for cursing her family generations ago, she makes a deal to finally break the cycle. The only problem? She has to work alongside Jack Haggerty, the grumpy owner of the gaming shop across the street who has spent years getting under her skin.

And honestly? I was obsessed.

This book has witches, curses, pink magic, a ghost with zero respect for personal boundaries, a cat who couldn't care less about anyone's plans, and a grumpy-sunshine romance that had me smiling the entire time.

Rosie was such an easy character to root for. Despite everything she's been through, she still believes in love and continues helping other people find their happily-ever-afters even when she feels like she'll never get one herself. Meanwhile, Jack is skeptical, stubborn, and determined to explain away everything magical happening right in front of him.

Watching him slowly lose that battle was incredibly entertaining.

What surprised me most was how much fun I had reading this. Every time I thought I was going to put it down, something else would happen that made me want to keep going. Between the curse, the ghostly chaos, the romance, and all the magical shenanigans, I flew through it.

And can we talk about the vibes for a second?

This book feels like wrapping yourself in a blanket, grabbing a seasonal drink, and spending an afternoon somewhere cozy while magic quietly exists in the background. It has that perfect balance of humor, heart, romance, and whimsy that made it impossible not to fall in love with.

What to Expect:
✨ Witchy Romance
✨ Grumpy x Sunshine
✨ Family Curse
✨ Ghostly Chaos
✨ Next-Door Neighbors
✨ Small Town Charm
✨ Forced Proximity
✨ Cozy Fall Vibes
✨ Magical Mishaps
✨ One Very Unbothered Cat

I genuinely can't believe I'm saying this, but Morgan Elizabeth may have single-handedly changed my mind about magical realism.

If you're looking for a cozy, magical romance that will make you laugh, smile, and completely fall under its spell, add this one to your TBR immediately.

September can't come soon enough.

I knew Morgan Elizabeth could write romance, but I was not prepared for how much I would love her first traditionally published paranormal romance!! Meet Cute Magic felt like a warm hug.

Rosie, a witch cursed to never find lasting love, must work with Jack, the grumpy owner of the gaming shop across the street, to break her family’s curse. What follows is equal parts cozy, hilarious, romantic, and magical.

If Gilmore Girls, Practical Magic, and every cozy small-town romance you’ve ever loved somehow got together and created the perfect fall read, it would be this book. Heartwood Hollow instantly became a town I never wanted to leave. The bookstore, the gaming shop, the magic, the family dynamics, everything felt so charming and alive.

Rosie and Jack were absolutely everything to me. Rosie is sunshine in human form, determined to believe in love despite every reason not to, while Jack is skeptical, awkward, and convinced logic can explain everything around him. Their dynamic was the perfect blend of grumpy x sunshine and enemies-to-lovers. I loved watching Jack slowly lower his walls and let himself believe in something bigger than what he could see. Meanwhile, Rosie never lost the hope and warmth that made her such an easy character to root for.

Phillip absolutely stole the show for me. Every scene involving him had me smiling, and he added so much heart to the story (especially in the end)

One of my favorite things about this book was how effortlessly the magic was woven into the romance. The family curse, the potions, the lore surrounding Heartwood Hollow, and the ghostly shenanigans all felt important to the story rather than existing as background decoration. The worldbuilding was cozy without being overwhelming, and it left me desperately wanting more books set in this town.

By the end, I was completely enchanted. This book reminded me why I love romance in the first place. It was funny, magical, heartfelt, and filled with characters I genuinely cared about. It felt nostalgic and fresh at the same time, like coming home to a place you’ve somehow never been before.

Meet Cute Magic is the perfect fall read for anyone who loves cozy small towns, witches, ghosts, family curses, and grumpy x sunshine romance. Morgan Elizabeth may have found her niche here, because I am already counting down the days until I can return to Heartwood Hollow!!!!

This book absolutely screams Practical Magic, Gilmore Girls, and Halloween.

The second I saw the cover, I was sold. I am embarrassingly easy to convince when a book has a cute cover, but thankfully this one delivered exactly the cozy magical vibes I was hoping for.

I’ve never really read many witch-centred books before, but I loved the paranormal elements in this. Between the witches, ghosts, family magic, and the quest Jack and Rosie go on, it felt whimsical, cosy, and full of heart. The family curse especially reminded me so much of Practical Magic. The idea that love comes with a cost and every generation has to live with that fear was such an interesting concept.

The romance was adorable. I also realised while reading this that I haven’t picked up a grumpy sunshine romance in ages, and it reminded me why I love the trope so much. Rosie and Jack are complete opposites in a lot of ways. She’s a reader, he’s a gamer, but they worked so well together.

And can we talk about Jack for a second? How is the nerd always the attractive one? Every now and then another side of him would appear and I’d just be sitting there like… where did THAT come from?

One of my favourite moments was when he brought the world to Rosie through food because she never really got the chance to travel. It was such a thoughtful gesture and honestly one of the sweetest things in the entire book.

I also loved the small-town setting. It felt cosy, magical, and perfect for the story. More than anything though, this made me want October to arrive immediately because this would be the perfect autumn read with candles lit and a warm drink beside you.

The ending also has me so excited for the rest of the series. Vi already has me intrigued and I cannot wait to see where her story goes next.

♡ “Maybe that’s the true curse: not to never fall in love and stay there, but never to be able to settle.”

♡ “Break the curse, Rosie. Break it and forget me. Then remember us again.”

♡ “Because I know in my gut you were made to be mine, and I was made to be yours, to take care of you, to give you a safe place to be soft.”

♡ “I would have fought heaven and hell to get us here again.”

Book Review: Meet Cute Magic by Morgan Elizabeth

Rosie Mayfield has spent her life believing she’s destined to have her heart broken thanks to a family curse that dooms every chance at lasting love. Desperate to finally change her fate, the quirky bookstore owner summons the ghost responsible for the curse, who agrees to break it if she’ll help him brew a potion so he can finally move on to the afterlife. The catch? She needs the help of Jack Haggerty, the owner of the neighboring gaming store who can’t stand her and just so happens to be the ghost’s grandson. What follows is a magical, enemies-to-lovers romance filled with witches, ghosts, potions, and enough Halloween spirit to make it feel like living inside a cozy fall movie.

This book completely commits to the bit, and I loved it for that. It’s delightfully kitschy, campy, and unapologetically festive. From the Halloween countdown to the magical mishaps, quirky small-town charm, and paranormal shenanigans, it felt like the literary version of wandering through a Halloween festival with a pumpkin spice latte in hand. If you’re looking for realism, this isn’t it. If you’re looking for vibes, this absolutely delivers.

I also really enjoyed the alternating points of view, which made Jack and Rosie’s chemistry feel stronger as their initial irritation slowly gave way to genuine affection. The ghost’s storyline added more emotional depth than I expected, and I found myself equally invested in seeing him find peace as I was in watching Rosie finally believe she deserved a happily ever after. The supporting cast and cozy small-town atmosphere rounded everything out nicely.

Overall, Meet Cute Magic is the perfect spooky season romance for readers who love a little whimsy with their happily ever after. It’s charming, magical, funny, and full of heart. If you’re in the mood for witches, ghosts, enemies to lovers, and a romance wrapped in Halloween magic, this is an easy recommendation.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Set in Heartwood Hollow, bookstore owner and witch Rosie Mayfield needs help breaking a curse on her family. She hasn't been able to fall in love without getting her heart broken. Conjuring a ghost to help seems like the best option. Unfortunately, the ghost in question can help but only if she brews the required potion with help from his grandson Jack Haggerty. Jack's the one person in their small town who just doesn't like her, which is unfortunate as his gaming business is across the street from her bookstore. But they have until Halloween to brew the potion. As they team up to gather the ingredients, Jack's hard exterior starts to soften and ignoring their chemistry may no longer work. But can they get past magical potions, curses, and bonds to share their true feelings with each other?

I loved this paranormal romance! It was such as great mix of fall Stars Hollow with magical witches. Rosie is the quintessential oldest daughter, just trying to fix everything on her own. Jack opened up to be flirty, shy, stressed, and more. I loved seeing him mess up and fight for their relationship.

FWIW - I pictured this set in New Jersey or nearby, but I couldn't find anything solid on where the fictional town was located.

Read this paranormal romance for:
🍂 Witches and ghosts and curses
👻 Dislike to love
🍂 Fall in a magical small town
👻 Gamer MMC x Reader FMC (I love how this combo was shown!)
🍂 An adorable cat!
👻 A grandpa ghost who keeps trying to make sure she eats
🍂 Bakery sister and flower shop sister (can't wait for their books!)
👻 Neighbors who are forced to work together
🍂 Magic is real (I loved how the kiss bond worked and when/how it was used in the story)
👻 What happens after Halloween

Open door / spicy!

5 / 5 stars

🚨 SPOILER ALERT: READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!
I am giving Meet Cute Magic by Morgan Elizabeth an absolute 5-star review! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I completely loved it! This is an incredibly enchanting, whimsical, and highly addictive romantasy story that is an absolute dream to binge on your Kindle screen.
ARC Disclosure: Thank you to NetGalley and the author for providing an early digital review copy (eARC). All thoughts and reflections shared here are entirely my own.
The Review
Meet Cute Magic delivers a spectacular contemporary fantasy romance that perfectly blends magical rules with deep emotional history. The narrative does a beautiful job of establishing a tight-knit family legacy alongside a looming mystical obstacle that keeps the stakes feeling wonderfully high. Morgan Elizabeth writes with an effortless charm, structuring a well-developed plot that balances small-town magical vibes with intense, lingering chemistry. It is an exquisitely paced, heartwarming journey that completely captures your imagination from the very first page.
The Good
This is indeed a cute meet story, though our FMC Rosie and our MMC Jack have known each other for quite some time! It’s a fantastic love story filled with magic, cute rhyming spells, a curse to break, and a very sassy and wicked ghost that completely steals the scene.
I loved Rosie and her relationship with her sisters, and the nice bond between Jack and Vi was so wonderful to see. And Jack... he gives those nerdy vibes and sexy as hell vibes too! He is fantastic and I can’t get enough of him. I even enjoyed how the cozy, magical elements blended so smoothly with the romantic tension. I hope to see more of them in the second installment about Vi... which can’t come soon enough!
The Not So Good
Absolutely nothing! It balances the whimsical spellcasting with top-tier romantic tension flawlessly, making it a perfect, magical standalone setup that leaves you desperate for the next book

Thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for an ARC of this book!!

Rosie is a witch with the power of helping people who are ready to fall in love. There is only one little problem: she's cursed to never find her one true love. This until she decides to summon the ghost who cursed her family to help her undo it once and for all. In order to do that Rosie is forced to work with the only person in her small town who hates her: Jack. The grumpy gamer owner of the gaming store in front of Rosie's bookstore.

Perfect vibes for an Autumn/Halloween read, but also for any other time of the year since its descriptions help you imagining the scenes and also feel them. The setting is well described and in line with the story and so is the plot. I really enjoyed the mentioning of other supernatural creatures and not only witches. I believe it makes sense that in a world where one magical creature exist so do others, the opposite would have been a bit odd.

Now the characters. Rosie is an hopelessly romantic girl who wants to find love but, let's be honest she has terrible taste in men. Introducing Jack who is very willingly to show her how much she's worth and that she deserves more. Being an eldest daughter myself I can easily see Rosie's actions and thoughts as something I do daily. Asking for help can be an enormous task when you feel like you're carrying the load all by yourself. It was really nice to see Jack understanding Rosie's needs and helping her carrying the weight, as well as Rosie accepts to do nothing with Jack when he needs to decompress.

This book is magic (quite literally) and contains the perfect potion for love, you only have to believe in it and in yourself!

Here’s what you should know:
❤️Grumpy x sunshine witch
❤️Romance reader FMC x Gamer MMC
❤️Halloween/autumn vibes
❤️Forced proximity
❤️Small town
❤️Hopeless romantic cursed to never find love
❤️Two povs, 1st person
❤️Spicy level: 2.5/5

I want to say I was approved on NetGalley yesterday afternoon and finished this in less than a day...

I went into Meet Cute Magic expecting a fun paranormal romance, but I honestly ended up loving it even more than I thought I would.

This was such a comforting read. I can't explain it, but it was so cozy, I loved it. Heartwood Hollow instantly gave me those small-town vibes where everyone knows everyone, the shops are adorable, and you kind of wish you could move there yourself (even though I live in a small town, it doesn't seem to compare to Heartwood Hollow).

Rosie and Jack were such a fun pairing. Rosie is determined to break the family curse that's sabotaged her love life, so she conjures Jack's dead grandfather, who was the one who cursed her family because her grandmother refused to go on a date with him, while Jack would rather explain everything with logic than believe in magic. Their opposites-attract pairing worked so well, and I especially loved watching Jack slowly let go of his skepticism. He was awkward, anxious, sweet, and completely gone for Rosie long before he wanted to admit it.

I'm sorry (or not), but Phillip absolutely stole the show here. Also, the magical scavenger-hunt feel of gathering ingredients and brewing potions felt so nostalgic because I was doing this sort of thing as a child, so it made me chuckle quite often. More than anything, this book just made me happy. It was funny, magical, romantic, nostalgic, and really cozy.

Thank you to NetGalley for sending me the ARC copy of this very cute witchy/paranormal contemporary romance. Totally up my alley! This will be the perfect fun romance read for the fall! This book hit a lot of my wheelhouse items! Sisters and their strong relationship, small town, contemporary but a little special of different (magic-in this case) Gamer and romance reader...so fun! I also like when realistic family dynamics in play with storyline and mingle with the love story. As this was an ARC there were several issues that an editor can catch like some spelling things or wrong words left in the story. One major being the hair color of the main character being referred to as both blonde and red headed (this should be fixed.) The MMC is a shy and introverted gamer when around her and then a different mannered guy "in the bedroom" scenes. The most major thing that threw me off was the consistent consensual Magic in this book. I did not like it especially in a love story and to her partner the MMC. Gave me the ick as I believe that communication and respect while potentially altering the others mental/physical state should be given. Kissing without consent, and using magic food on him without consent or knowledge (a kin to drugging him) not cool in my book. Overall the book was very cute and I enjoyed it I just cant hand wave that last bit. Enjoyable read, I was hooked and read the whole thing physically which is an achievement since I am normally an audiobook reader. Check it out this fall!

ARC Review:

Magical, whimsy, emotional, funny, heartfelt….there are so many words I can use to describe how wonderful this story is, I simply adore Rosie and Jack.

Rosie comes from a family of witches and her speciality is love. She owns the cutest little romance bookstore where she uses her magic to help others find their perfect match by selecting the perfect book for them and as a reader, this is absolutely everything!

Jack owns the gaming den across the street. He’s shy, quiet and keeps to himself but whenever Rosie’s around they tend to always get into arguments and the tension just keeps building between them and you never truly know whether it’s love or hate.

Rosie believes her family is cursed to never find true love as she always has failed relationships. After she tells her boyfriends that she loves them they always end in heartbreak. She decided to summon whoever cursed her family only to discover it is Jack’s dead grandpa. He tells her how she can break the curse, however, she will need Jack’s help. The two go on quest to collect the ingredients required to make a potion and after spending as much time together a relationship starts to bloom.

Of course, there is the fear of the curse will take effect between them. Will Jack and Rosie break the curse? Will Rosie find her perfect man?

But we all know that there’s nothing better than a reader girlfriend and a gamer boyfriend.

A top tier grumpy/sunshine romance set in a paranormal cozy small town with witches, vampires, and otherworldly entities, and a meddling ghost to boot. This book was so lighthearted, fun, and sexy. I couldn’t get enough! I couldn’t imagine a more perfect fall read! Meet Cute Magic is filled with all of the small town charm of Gilmore Girls and the magic whimsy of Practical Magic and Charmed.

Rosie is the sunshine girl loved by everyone who owns the local romance bookstore, and Jack is the grumpy guy who owns the gaming store across the street and avoids all his neighbors. Rosie is a witch with a special affinity with love magic, but unfortunately a family curse gets in her way of her own happily ever after.

Rosie finally has enough and becomes determined to break this curse, no matter the cost, and wouldn’t you know it, to get one of the key ingredient for the spell she needs Jack… who happens to hate her.

The way Morgan Elizabeth was able to short circuit my brain every time Jack Haggerty takes his glasses off needs to be studied. I don’t know why this was one of the hottest things I’ve ever read, but it certainly was 😍🥵

Rosie’s bond with her two sisters was one of my favorite parts of this book! I can’t wait to read their books! 💕

Thank you to NetGalley, Morgan Elizabeth, and Union Square and Co. for providing me with this early copy!

Fave Quotes:
“I’ve spent every day since I was ten reading romances where everyone lives happily ever after. I’ve read about thousands of people falling in love in extravagant adventures and in gentle, subtle ways. I’ve read about love in the real world and in fantasy, in the past, present, and future. I’ve laughed and cried and swooned over words on pages, and I have patiently waited for it to be my turn.” 😭🥺

“I’ve never met anyone who is as easily riled as Jack Haggerty, and to be honest I love nothing more than watching his face get all red and annoyed.”
-“I always want to argue with Rosemary Mayfield.” 😂

Thank you to NetGalley and Union Square & Co. for allowing me to read an ARC of Meet Cute Magic by Morgan Elizabeth.

I absolutely loved this book! Think small-town charm meets Bewitched—with plenty of spice—and you have the perfect recipe for this magical romance.

Jack and Rosie were so wonderful to watch fall in love. Their banter was top-tier, and the way they constantly bickered had me laughing out loud so many times. Their chemistry felt effortless, making every interaction entertaining and heartfelt. One of my favorite aspects of the book was watching Rosie help Jack navigate his social anxiety with patience, understanding, and care. Their relationship felt supportive and genuine, and seeing Jack mesh into the community throughout the story was incredibly heartwarming.

Phillip was an unexpected favorite. He is a complete and wonderful nosy busybody, and honestly, every scene with him was a delight. He added so much humor and warmth to the story.

I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this book and never wanted to leave this magical little town. I can not wait for Violet and Poppy’s books because I desperately need their stories too!

If you’re looking for a funny, magical, spicy small-town romance with lovable characters and fantastic banter, Meet Cute Magic should absolutely be on your TBR.

*WINNER OF ROMANCE OF THE YEAR - HANDS DOWN!!!*

I don't even need to write anything else do I? I think the first sentence sums it up!

Rosie is a witch with an ability to guide people to their soulmate, only she's single and can't help herself with her own magic. Her family was cursed several generations ago, so when they fall in love, the relationship comes to an end. Fed up of being heartbroken, Rosie summons the ghost of the person who created the curse, to ask him to end it. With the help of his Grandson (Rosie's neighbour) she sets out on a mission to make a potion to break the curse on Halloween.

I need this book as a movie. NEED. It is so lighthearted, so cosy, so funny! I could visualise everything I was reading so easily, it was like I was watching it come to life. That's how good Morgan's writing is.

Now I don't normally do spice, and I wasn't aware it contained it in this book, but I'll make an exception for this story - because it's that good.

My only negative was the last chapter, did we need yet another replay?!!

I am literally on Amazon as I type this pre-ordering my physical copy. Never done that before!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an advance review copy. All opinions are my own.

Spicy. Contains strong language.

A cursed witch, a grumpy gaming shop owner, and one ghost grandpa with unfinished business? Yes, this is exactly the kind of paranormal rom-com setup that makes me immediately curious.

Meet Cute Magic sounds chaotic in the best way. Rosie wanting love but being blocked by a family curse already gives the story a fun emotional hook, but throwing in a ghost-conjuring bargain makes it even better. And then there’s Jack, who apparently has made disliking Rosie part of his personality, which is objectively hilarious considering he still ends up pulled into her magical mess.

I’m especially intrigued by the tension between Rosie and Jack because it doesn’t sound like simple dislike-for-the-sake-of-banter. He has a grudge, she needs his help, and neither of them seems ready to admit that the chemistry is becoming a problem. Add in the ghostly family element, the bookstore/gaming shop contrast, and the whole “falling in love might doom us” situation, and this has all the ingredients for a charming, slightly messy, very readable witchy romance.

Basically, I’m here for the magic, the grudge, the emotional denial, and the ghost grandpa causing problems from beyond the grave.

The Cute in the title really makes up to it, what a sweet romance!

Rose lives the dream of every romance book enthusiast: to have a romance book shop, where she helps people find love through the books and her magic. She works across the street from a gaming shop, owned by a cute nerd who hates her for her never ending clumsiness. And honestly, tho is a simple cliche prompt, there are many ways to screw up this type of story, with Morgan Elizabeth does not!

While reading it, I could help but think how I miss this type of whimsical magic on romances. Her pink sparkles every time she uses her magic is just the cherry on top along the funniest scenes and characters, her annoyed cat and the funny gramps ghost and all the enchantments. The book uses a simple formula for a good romance, but it's so well done you don't see time passing.

Their chemistry its out of this world perfectly made, the grumpy x sunshine, clumsy x stressed dynamics are perfectly made and the only thing I could think by the end its how much I want a movie made out of this, so I can watch every time the weather gets a little chill.

Can't wait for more books of this series!

This is the perfect Summerween read!

If Morgan Elizabeth writes - I read and I love every single time! And her first trad published book and paranormal romance? How exciting!

Morgan Elizabeth hits the spot with her likeable and relatable FMCs and down bad MMC (even if grumpy) every time. The perfect mix of romance, tension, deep conversations, raw emotions and such amazing spicy scenes!

Making this book paranormal with whimsical FMC Rosie being a witch was such a great additional angle and I can't wait what Morgan has in stores for her sisters Poppy and Violet. She was the most adorable bookish FMC anf I loved how references to the bookish community and other Morgan Elizabeth books were handled (I'm not always a fan of that trope).

Jake our MMC was the perfect grumpy next door neighbor gamer MMC and I loved getting his POV - another man written by a women for women! Rosie and him complemented each other beautifully and the way they were in denial for quite a while really was adorable!

"This is pure magic. Kind of like Rosie, I’m beginning to realize."

☀️Grumpy Sunshine
👻Ghost Haunting
🏘 Small Town
🔮Magical Beings Among Normies

Set in 💓Heartwood Hollow💓

📚 A feel good paranormal romance between a joyful witch and the grumpy, nerdy grandson of a warlock who cursed her entire family line, preventing them from having true love.

Starts off strong—I was hooked immediately. Really LOVED the setting. The bookshop, the café, the florist shop—they were all so cozy and really fit the vibe. I love how each one had something magical about it. Then there's the Gaming Den 😅 It really does embody the grumpy quality of Jack— gray with no store front decorations unlike Rosie's pink with fall decor. The supernatural club thrown into the mix made me feel like it was Practical Magic meets Disney's Halloween Town.

Loved the relationship with Jack and Rosie. And Jack?? 🥵🥵 Whew!! I usually skip spicy parts in books but this is the first book I read it all. 🙂‍↔️

🎃Perfect Fall/Halloween read. Will be out just in time for Pumpkin Spiced Latte season!

Meet Cute Magic was such a fun read. I picked it up for the witchy romance. I ended up loving the family and friendship aspects just as much.

The Hawthorne sisters were one of my favorite parts of the book. It definitely gave me Charmed vibes. Between the family magic and sister dynamic, I was hooked. I already know I’ll be picking up the next sister’s story.

Rosie and Jack were so good together. The banter was great. The chemistry was there from the start. I loved watching them work together to break the curse. Jack was probably my favorite character. Every time he showed up on the page, I wanted to keep reading.

The ghost added a lot of humor to the story. I also loved the bookstore, the magic, and the small-town setting. Everything worked really well together. And of course, Morgan Elizabeth delivered on the spice.

Overall, I really enjoyed this one and flew through it. If you’re looking for a witchy romance with Charmed vibes, definitely add this to your TBR.

I loveeee paranormal romances, so that was what immediately attracted me to this book. It was cute and romantic and just a really easy read overall. I liked the magical aspects and the little quests the Rosie and Jack went on. I really liked how their relationship progressed and just their overall dynamic and - though slightly dramatic - the conflict towards the end of the book was really necessary for Rosie's character development (also, I love drama, so hehehe). I really liked the magical lore and just how the world building was worked out. I definitely hope we'll see more from more magical creatures in future books. I wasn't surprised by the twist at the end, I saw that one coming, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
I would think though that Jack would want to spend a lot of time with his deceased grandfather, but it felt as if he really didn't do that as much. I feel like he should've cared much more about still being able to interact with his grandfather - whom he supposedly was really close with.

Thank you Union Square & Co. and Morgan Elizabeth for the ARC!
