I work in Women’s Health and was very interested in learning more about breast cancer and how to help support patients though it. I always found it so disheartening that younger women have worse outcomes with breast cancer, mostly because they are less likely to have early detection. This is a population I was very interested in learning more about. Beyond the Pink is a great resource for that, as well as adding more context and background on the disease, and how it affects other populations.
I also know that as well meaning as folks are, there isn’t a lot of transparency around Breast Cancer Organizations, aka places labeled with those pink ribbons, and I was hoping to learn more about that. I appreciated that this book encourage folks who wanted to donate towards breast cancer to focus on organizations that directly fund research, patient support, or advocacy and provides a list in the resources list at end of the book making it extremely accessible and clear.
Beyond the Pink was also extremely readable, with the ability to move from chapter to chapter, based on your interests or concerns. I can see myself utilizing this as a resource in the future in tandem with newer, more evidenced based research.
✨4.5 stars rounded up!
Thank you NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for this e-arc. Beyond the Pink came out September 29, 2026.
Having discovered Dr. Teplinsky’s instagram during my own breast cancer journey and it being so immensely helpful, I was excited to see she was putting out a book.
After I was diagnosed, I got multiple books gifted to me. Leafing through them and even just reading the summaries, none of them appealed to me as a 33 year old woman who’s life had just been upended.
This book is everything I needed. It’s catered to young adults, explains elements that I had to go deep diving into the depths of Reddit to understand at a practical level, and feels like your gal pal who unfortunately got diagnosed before you is helping lead you through this mess.
I recommend this for any young adults going through this, or even for their family members to help understand the nuances of an AYA diagnosis.
Note: I received an ARC copy of this book from NetGalley, but all views are my own.
I really enjoyed how this book was not afraid to confront the practicalities of breast cancer and the potential grim realities patients may face. It didn’t shy away from discussing emotional topics like end-of-life planning, grief discussions with young children, and the trauma experienced by breast cancer patients, even after remission. There was an eye-opening analysis of psychological and social factors affecting patients’ healthcare journeys, and I liked the focus on previvors as well. I was less familiar with this aspect of breast cancer, and thought it was very useful to highlight the psychological and psychical health challenges faced by those at high risk of breast cancer development.
My only issue with the book is that it was quite dense with medical and pharmacological terminology, particularly in the first half of the book. I definitely think it would be a difficult read for those without a science background or who aren’t extremely knowledgeable about the subject of breast cancer. Furthermore, some of the latter chapters seemed a bit long winded and could’ve been condensed slightly for greater readability.
Overall, this was a comprehensive look at the breast cancer journey. I recommend it to those looking for a deep dive into this topic who have at least a moderate background in biology/physiology. *I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.*
I was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer in the summer of 2026, and very quickly found Dr Teplinksy's IG account. What a gift it has been to have access to an ARC of her new book, Beyond the Pink, during these initial months after diagnosis. I took my time with it and used it as a companion during many many waiting room sessions, times when my brain couldn't tune out of reality and into fiction. It felt like a friend who had extensive knowledge about breast cancer was holding my hand through each step and explaining the tornado that was my life. It gave me confidence to have conversations with my doctors with a real understanding of this new cancer language in my life. I highlighted extensively, because this is one I will return to as I continue to navigate survivorship and this new reality. I highly recommend this for other young adults with breast cancer. (At 42, I would not have expected to be considered a young adult in any case, but here we are!)
Amazing read! I’ve been following Dr. Teplinsky on Instagram since my diagnosis, and I’ve always appreciated her dedication to advocating for younger women with breast cancer.
What I love most is her focus on the aspects of cancer care that often don’t get enough attention: sexual wellness, fertility, relationships, bone health, heart health, and everything that comes with navigating life during and after cancer.
This book takes a thoughtful, much-needed deep dive into the conversations that are too often overlooked in oncology but are so incredibly important to our quality of life.
A wonderful read for both patients and oncologists alike. I’ll definitely be keeping this one close to my reading chair to revisit whenever I need it. 🤍
Reviewed via ARC from NetGalley As a survivor of breast cancer, Dr. Teplinsky is/has been a wealth of knowledge on many of her social platforms. So, I was so happy to see this very informative book that gave people like myself a guide to what we need to do to take care of ourselves after all the surgeries, treatments, etc are all over. Definitely recommended for my Pink Sisters.
Beyond the Pink is such a wonderful resource for anyone affected by breast cancer. It’s informative, easy to understand, and incredibly reassuring, whether you’re newly diagnosed, going through treatment, or beyond. You can tell how much thought and care went into this book! A truly valuable resource for so many people navigating breast cancer.
This is the book the breast cancer community needs. It’s for anyone who is newly diagnosed, going through treatment, or even years past it. It is clear, well written, and will be a trusted resource for so many. Well done, Dr. Teplinsky!!
Excellent resource for anyone navigating a breast journey. Dr. Teplinsky did an amazing job breaking down complex information in an extremely sensitive way. As a breast health nurse practitioner I will be recommending her book over and over !
An Invaluable, Compassionate Guide for Patients and Caregivers Alike, This is the exact book I wish had been handed to me on the day of my diagnosis. Navigating a major health change is incredibly overwhelming but this resource serves as a practical, clear, and comforting compass through the storm. What makes this book truly exceptional is its dual perspective. It is not just written for the patient; it is an equally powerful tool for family members and caregivers. It provides the actionable information and emotional insight that loved ones need to offer meaningful support without feeling completely helpless. While I hope nobody ever has to need a book like this, the reality is that many will. For anyone currently facing this diagnosis or supporting someone who is, I cannot recommend this resource highly enough. It turns confusion into clarity and isolation into community. Thanks to Netgalley, Grand Central Publishing, Balance and Dr. Eleonora Teplinsky for the eArc.
