Stupid Cupid: a cozy, spicy, small-town, paranormal, 90s Valentine’s Day novella

Rate this book
A Stupid Cupid shoots himself in the foot in this cozy, spicy, small-town, 90s, paranormal Valentine’s Day love-fest!

Cal

Cupids are supposed to shoot light-tipped arrows and make perfect matches. We’re not supposed to ask questions, and we’re definitely not supposed to fool around with the humans.

But when I’m assigned to match florist Betty with a guy who’s cheating on his wife, I can’t do it. I lower my bow and accidentally shoot myself in the foot instead.

Now all I want is just one night with the woman of my dreams. One night to know what it’s like to be in love.

And it should all go according to plan, as long as Eros doesn’t find out that I’m posing as a flower delivery guy and stopping time so I can give Betty exactly what she needs before her customers notice she’s missing.

Betty

Every year on Valentine’s Day, I spend the day wrapping flowers for couples in love while planning my dinner for one.

But then my new delivery guy appears wearing wings and a sexy smirk I want to kiss right off his face. But while I’m not complaining about the way he kisses me like he hasn’t been with a woman in centuries, there’s something about him that doesn’t quite add up. Like, why does time stop whenever we’re together? Why can he give me only one night? And how does he somehow feel like my destiny?

Find out in this cozy, spicy, small-town, paranormal novella!

I thought getting hit by Cupid’s arrow made you fall in love, but apparently it makes you horny 😂

When Cupid refuses to match the pretty florist with a married man, he ends up shooting himself in the foot - falling head over heels himself for the aforementioned florist.

There isn’t a lot of depth to the characters, which really shouldn’t be expected of a story of this length (enough to break my heart a tiny bit at the one but last chapter though). This one’s perfect when you have an hour or so to spare and are looking for a quick and easy read. The story is actually really sweet with a satisfying ending.

Was this the best story that I’ve ever read? No. But was it worth the time though? Absolutely.

If you’re looking for a quick and easy read to get you in the mood for Valentine’s Day, this is a great book for you! It’s sweet, cozy, and steamy. Betty is a florist, getting flowers ready for everyone else on Valentine’s Day but with no beau of her own. Enter Cal, a Cupid who takes fate into his own hands (read: arrows). They only have one day, but that won’t stop them from making the most of it.

This was such a cute, fun and cozy read! Where on earth have you ever heard of a cupid shooting himself in the foot with an arrow?😂. This book was fun, low stakes and very festive. I would definitely recommend this book to someone looking for a quick and cute novella to read on Valentine’s Day 🤩❤️

Stupid Cupid by Stormy O’Hara is a cozy, quirky, spicy little Valentine’s Day treat that feels like a warm hug… with wings, sass, and just the right amount of heat.

Betty is a florist who spends every Valentine’s Day doing what she always does—making everyone else’s love look beautiful while going home alone. She’s resigned to it. Love is for other people. Chocolate hearts and roses are just part of the job.

Enter Cal.

He’s a Cupid who’s technically supposed to be matching souls—not questioning fate, not interfering, and definitely not falling for humans. But when he’s assigned to push Betty toward a morally questionable match, he panics… and accidentally shoots himself in the foot instead. Oops.

Suddenly, he’s posing as a flower delivery guy, stopping time, hiding from Eros, and doing everything in his power to give Betty one perfect night of love before the universe catches up with him.

This story is short, sweet, and irresistibly fun. The 90s small-town vibe adds a cozy nostalgic layer, while the paranormal twist keeps things playful and fresh. Cal is endearingly earnest, a little clueless, and completely smitten. Betty is relatable, lonely in that quiet, familiar way, and easy to root for from the very first page.

Their connection is instant, but it works because it’s rooted in tenderness, curiosity, and that aching desire to feel chosen—even if only for one night. Watching Betty realize she might actually be someone’s destiny is surprisingly emotional for such a quick read.

If you’re in the mood for a fast, flirty, feel-good paranormal romance with wings, mistaken identity, chocolate-covered cherries, and Valentine’s magic, Stupid Cupid is the perfect bite-sized escape. Sometimes love doesn’t need a grand plan… just one stupid Cupid brave enough to break the rules.

⭐ 5/5 | 🌶️ 4/5

This novella was so much fun!!! I knew from the first page that it would be good and interesting, but I didn’t expect to really like this story. Stupid Cupid is cozy, spicy, nostalgic in the best 90s way, and somehow both totally unhinged and incredibly romantic. I flew through it in one sitting with a huge grin on my face.

So, the premise? A rogue Cupid accidentally shoots himself in the foot—literally—and decides to spend one night with the woman of his dreams (who he’s definitely not supposed to fall for lol). We’ve got wings, time-stopping kisses, mistaken identity, and one VERY lucky florist named Betty. It’s sweet, sexy, a little chaotic, and honestly... I was rooting for Cal and Betty from their first interaction.

The spice? Excellent. The vibes? Adorable. The chemistry?? Immediate. It’s got that perfect insta-lust-to-insta-love arc that actually works because the characters are so fun and fully formed. I loved the mix of cozy small-town charm with a paranormal twist.

Also, the Cupid lore is so refreshing in a bookstagram/booktok world where most people are into fairies, vampires, werewolves or some other beasts etc. Not that I am opposed to any of that, trust me, I've had my fair share of obsessions lol.

This story is pretty short though, but it still feels complete and satisfying. Truly, the only downside is that I could’ve read a full-length version of this without blinking. More paranormal novellas like this, please!

✨I just want to also state that I was provided an advanced reader's copy (ARC) of this book by the author. But I assure you, all opinions in this review are my own. 🫰🏻

This 90s Valentine’s Day romance is an absolute blast to read. There’s something so refreshing about a love story set in a time before everyone was glued to their mobile phones. The characters actually talk to each other, misunderstandings unfold in person, and the whole atmosphere has that charming, slightly chaotic pre-digital energy that makes romantic comedies so much fun.
The standout element is definitely Cupid himself. He’s not the sweet, rule-following cherub you might expect—he’s mischievous, unpredictable, and more than willing to bend (or completely ignore) the rules. As the main male character, he brings a chaotic charm to the story, especially since he doesn’t exactly have perfect aim with his arrows. In fact, he seems to hit entirely the wrong person at the wrong time—particularly someone who doesn’t believe in love at all.
Watching that character suddenly experience the full force of Cupid’s magic is both hilarious and heartwarming. The paranormal elements blend beautifully with the rom-com tone, creating plenty of laugh-out-loud moments while still delivering a satisfying romantic arc.
The humor feels natural, the pacing is lively, and the Valentine’s setting adds to the playful atmosphere. It’s lighthearted, magical, and genuinely funny without losing the emotional core of the story.
Overall, this is a delightful paranormal romantic comedy that perfectly captures the spirit of 90s romance. If you’re looking for something fun, nostalgic, and full of magical mishaps, this book is definitely worth picking up.

This book follows Cal a cupid and Betty a Florist on the most romantic and busiest day for both of them. Betty is a florist who is run off her feet on the busiest day of the year at her shop. Cal is supposed to shoot arrows at people's hearts and make them fall in love with their perfect match no questions asked.

So what happens when Betty's delivery driver doesn't turn up and Cal starts to question Betty's perfect match?
Will there be heart break or love with the new delivery driver, Betty's perfect match and Cal?

I loved the setting in this book the comfortable, romantic 90s vibe was so nostalgic. It brought me back to when I was younger. This was a quick read, and the characters made it an easy, romantic read. The insta love made the book flow quickly and smoothly due to the small number of pages in this book.

There was a spice in this book I would rate it 2/5 as they were good scenes but not very graphic, but they were very cute.

I would recommend this book for those who love romance, insta love and who like a quick romantic read, on Valentine's Day.

Thank you to Booksprout for providing me with this ARC for free. I volunteer my review; these are my own thoughts and opinions.

Stupid Cupid by Stormy O’Hara was such a fun and entertaining read.

This story has a playful energy to it that makes it really easy to get pulled into. The premise creates plenty of chaotic moments, misunderstandings, and romantic tension, which keeps things interesting from start to finish.

What I enjoyed most was the humor woven throughout the story. It adds a lighthearted feel that balances nicely with the romance and the emotional moments between the characters.

For me, this lands at 4 ⭐ because while the story was really fun and engaging, I would have loved just a little more development in a few moments to deepen the connection even further.
Still, it’s a really enjoyable read that’s perfect if you’re in the mood for something playful and romantic.

This is a 4 ⭐ for me because:

• the story had a fun, chaotic energy
• the humor kept the tone light and entertaining
• the romantic tension was engaging
•it was an easy, enjoyable read

Fun. Playful. Entertaining.

Read this book if you like:

• rom-com style romance
• chaotic love stories
• lighthearted romantic tension
• funny, feel-good reads

I just finished Stupid Cupid and honestly… it was such a fun Valentine’s read. Of course it’s set on Valentine’s Day, when everything is supposed to be all lovey-dovey, hearts everywhere, love in the air...you know the vibes.
We meet Betty, a florist who is completely swamped all day (which already felt real), and then there’s that one customer. Reggie. The audacity of this man. Buying two bouquets, one for his wife and one for his mistress. Had me shaking my head the whole time. Poor Betty really had to deal with the worst of people on the busiest day of the year.
Then there’s Cal, the Cupid. At first, I felt genuinely bad for him once he explained why he became a Cupid. Like… my heart hurt for him. But if I’m being honest, he got what he deserved. That said, I do appreciate that he actually learns his lesson.
This was a fast-paced, quick, and spicy read that I flew through. Toward the end, I really thought Betty was going to change her mind, and I was low-key stressed about it, but I’m so glad she didn’t. That definitely would have taken a turn I wouldn't have expected. 🤣

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5)

Stupid Cupid by Stormy O’Hara is a cozy, spicy Valentine’s Day novella that’s perfect for getting into the love-filled mood. This was a quick, easy read that I flew through and genuinely enjoyed from start to finish. It’s fun, fluffy, and delivers just the right balance of sweetness, light angst, and steam.

The characters are charming and entertaining, making it easy to get invested even in a shorter format. There’s a hilarious mistaken-wing incident you truly have to read to believe, all the veggie lasagna a girl could ask for, and—of course—a satisfying HEA that gives you that classic Valentine’s Day romance payoff.

If you’re looking for something quick and fun to read between heavier novels, or if you’re simply in the mood for a love-filled story that doesn’t take itself too seriously, this novella is a perfect pick. A true Valentine’s Day treat for romance lovers. 💘📚

I really enjoyed reading this novella. Most of the time Cupid stories have a female Cupid so it was a nice change to see a Cupid story from a male Cupid's point of view. Cal is a Cupid who takes matters into his own hands when he is supposed to match a Florist named Betty with a guy who is cheating on his wife. Cal struggles and ends up shooting himself in the foot with his own arrow after already shooting an arrow at Betty. Betty is a human and Cupid's are not supposed to fool around with humans per Eros rules. This book while short is full of spice and love between the two main characters. It is long enough to let you get pulled into the turmoil that Cal is feeling and the confusion and heartbreak that Betty is feeling. I mean Cal having wings is also a plus in this story. The things he does with Chocolate-covered cherries!!!! You just have to read this one to find out all of the spicy details.

Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Instalove, super short

This novella is a must read for Valentine’s Day. I read it in an hour. The book is in dual POV and is HEA. Cal is a Cupid and it is Valentine’s Day, the busiest day of the year for a Cupid. His first match for the day includes Betty, the owner of a flower shop.

The character development was light in this novella, but didn’t really need it.
FMC: Betty has had her heart broken and has sworn off men and love.
MMC: Cal was not a good man in life and was made a Cupid.

I didn’t expect too much from a Valentine’s Day novella but it was a super cute paranormal love story full of flashbacks to my youth. I absolutely loved the part with the wings.

I was given an advanced reader copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review. Thank you for a great read Stormy O’Hara.

(I received this book from the author as an ARC. This review is voluntary and all opinions and thoughts are my own)

I literally finished this book in one sitting. It takes all my favorite parts of a romance book and condenses it down for a fun easy read (and no dragged out conflict or miscommunication trope. Thank God!) I love Valentine's and the concept falling in love was a good kind of different. I loved it — it definitely sets the novella apart and I highly recommend.

My only gripe (using this word loosely) was that I wish it had a touch more lovey dovey romance. There is back-to-back spice, so if you're not super into that or want more romance, either adjust your expectations or read something more aligned to your interests. All in all, I really enjoyed and would recommend it to anyone wanting to be in a Valentine’s mood. 4.5 stars, rounded up :)💝

4.2 ⭐ 3.1 🌶️

Do you like Novellas? How about 90's vibes? Instalust/love?

Then this is a cute and spicy little Holiday read for you! 💘🍒🌹

Our Cupid just needs to get his job done. Shoot his stupid little arrows and make those silly connections that Eros assigned to him. Pay his penance and wait until next year... But all of that changes when he sees Betty. Not only is her Match a cheating douche canoe, but she might just be the prettiest thing he has ever seen in his hundreds of years. How can he possibly put her through all of that?

Nope! Can't think that way, it's against the rules for cupids to feel anything for humans. Against. The. Rules.

Oh well, if he only has one day, he's going to make the most of it.

Betty honestly doesn't really even know how to feel about Valentines day anymore. She may run a great floral shop with the best gifts for the holiday. But at the end of the day, she's going to be going up to her apartment alone. Again. Now where is that dang delivery driver? Oh there he is, why does he have wings?

This was a short and spicy read that had some very giddy and feet kicking moments that just leave you feeling good. Don't go into it with serious intentions, I mean hello. He has WINGS. But do expect a fun time, some intense sessions(with and without food) and some all around heartwarming love. Do not expect a little chubby man in a bikini, Cal is everything you want in the book boyfriend department. 🥵

Thank you so much to Stormy for letting me read this great little ARC, I look forward to more of your work. Such a great start to my Valentines reads

This novella has been on my TBR and it didn’t disappoint! This is a short, spicy and cozy read. Definitely got me in the mood for Valentine’s Day!
Cupid/Cal is so funny! Like what kind of cupid shoots himself in the foot and falls for a human? Betty is a florist who hasn’t had good luck in love. She’s working on Valentine’s Day preparing flowers for everyone and expects she’ll go home alone after work. But Cal enters after shooting his foot. The chemistry is immediate. They can’t stop touching each other. Luckily Cal has the power to stop time so they can spend more time together before he has to leave. The intimate moments together makes them question are they the one?

Don't forget about the chocolate covered cherries. 🍒
if you’re looking for a quick, valentines paranormal themed treat then this is the one.

This is a super short fun read! It is super cute but also spicy. Cal is a Cupid that has A LOT of matches to make on Valentine's Day. His first match is Betty, a florist that is slammed. Cal doesn't understand why but he is drawn to Betty in a way he's never felt before. He shoots Betty and as Cal prepares to shoot her match, he shoots himself in the foot. Cal pretends to be her delivery guy to be able to spend the day with her. The issue is he gets caught spending time with a human which is completely off limits. Cal is then sent back to that morning to make all the matches he missed, including Betty's. How will Cal handle and feel when his arrow connection is broken? He just knows he has to see her again.

Cal and Betty were absolutely adorable as their relationship bloomed over Valentine’s Day. I loved this pairing so much — their chemistry was sweet, playful, and very easy to root for.

This is a fast-paced, 90s throwback novella that’s romantic, cozy, and oh so spicy, with a guaranteed HEA. If you’re looking for something quick, fun, and feel-good to read, this novella is the perfect choice.

SO CUTE!!! If you are looking for a quick 1 hr read to get you in the Valentine’s Day mood and you like spice, then this is the read for you!! I had such a great time reading this book it is exactly as the author says! Sweet and spicy! This book delivers insta love in the best way and delivers exactly what I was wanting in a spicy short story! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ only for the sake of the short story, but for being a short story and the author delivering exactly what she promises in that area it would be 5⭐️’s! I would definitely read a longer story about these two and can’t wait to see what else Stormy O’Hara has to deliver to us readers!

Stupid Cupid Stormy O’Hara 3 star ✨
First and foremost - set your expectations to a cheese book, super short, lots of sex…who cares about plot.
Now you know!

Cal MMC - Cupid with a kink for knee length socks

Betty -FMC - Florist . is ok to get 🤞 by someone she just met.

Insta lust, insta trust, insta sex, insta everything. Let's say there is a serious reason for the insta everything. It's because he is Cupid.

Yes it's a HEA. So are you at the doctor, waiting? Maybe have an hour to spend? You got your reading material right here.

"She (...) starts fingering my feathers." This is a sentence I never thought I'd read

Just finished Stupid Cupid by Stormy O’Hara and it was the perfect quick and spicy read! 💘

Set in the 90s with a magical twist, this Valentine’s novella brings all the chaos when a Cupid accidentally falls for the woman he was meant to help. Think fated mates, spicy mishaps, and a whole lot of heart!

Betty and Cal had great chemistry, and even though it was short, it still felt fun and full of personality. Definitely one of my favourite novellas so far this year Stormy O’Hara is now firmly on my radar! 🌹

This was a fun quick read. I enjoyed the magical realist element to this erotica. A cupid falls in love with a florist called Betty which is naughty, he'll get into trouble with his boss the God Eros...But that doesn't stop Cal the cupid, he desires Betty with his whole heart and his whole *ahem*.
The naughty moments were fun, I liked the build up.
Great first read for my February/Valentines erotica pile. I think the author could do a whole series of different cupids getting up to mischief.

This was a very fast read for me but I did really enjoy it. A spicy fast paced valentine themed romance. This was a first book by Stormy O’Hara that I have read, I would definitely be interested to see what other books she has out there. The ending is an HEA that made me smile and feel happy, but there was a little bit towards the end where I thought the ending might be different and I’m glad it ended the way it did.

Betty and Cal are a 3.5 star read for me. I love the 90's setting. I love their connection. I love the set up with Cal being a Cupid who goes off script. This is a cute, little instalove read that can make your heart sing for Valentines' Day. The story flows easily. I was happy to spend a short afternoon polishing off this little jewel. There is so much more going on in this fantastic and entertaining story I loved it and the characters and I highly recommend reading this book.

But honestly this was such a fun read. I've been in such a big dark romance kick that I needed a break. I really don't want to give away fun aspect of this book because I want other to enjoy it. But it was such aa cool concept with the time element.
