“She built walls around her heart to feel safe, and he built a wall inside them.”

Investigative journalist Nahla Avery only wanted the truth. A small-town corruption story turned into a nightmare the moment Lyle’s sheriff put a target on her back. Forced into hiding and stripped of her safety, her career, and her peace, Nahla doesn't back down—she digs deeper. That’s what she’s always done. What she’s never done? Depend on anyone... until Cannon Porter.

Cannon lives quiet, stays low, and keeps his past buried under lock and key. But when he’s hired to protect Nahla, their worlds collide with the kind of intensity neither of them is prepared for. She’s brilliant, stubborn, fearless. He’s disciplined, dangerous, and done letting life take anything else from him. Protecting her should’ve been simple.

But it isn’t.

Together, they uncover a conspiracy that has already cost too many people too much. Every new truth pulls them closer until hiding their connection becomes impossible. But when Cannon’s buried past crashes into Nahla’s present, love becomes the riskiest thing either of them has ever attempted. The question they have to answer Is it worth it?

🥺🥺🥺

This lady keeps writing MMCs that are just everything! Cannon was such a great hero! He’s protective, a man of integrity, strong, firm but gentle (when it comes to his La), and he allowed Nahla to break down his walls. It was beautiful. 😭This story was different from Jaimsss P, the research was so evident throughout and actually very spot on. It pains me to see the elders and less fortunate get screwed over by big corporations and greedy members of their “community”. I loved that Nahla was a voice for the voiceless - wasn’t no threat out that would keep her from unveiling the truth. Dare I say there was a hint of suspense to this story, as well?! I really enjoyed this story! It was different and I finished it in one sitting. Another banger from my fave and another book bae to add to my collection 🥰

I wasn’t all that invested in the stolen land storyline. Not because it wasn’t well written, it just personally didn’t interest me. I absolutely loved Cannon & Nahla as a couple though. They had such an easy going chemistry and there were quite a few times where he hand to gently set a boundary (to keep her safe), and she trusted him with that. I did like seeing that while he was keeping her physically safe, he had to learn to trust her as well with his past and emotions. The author says we’ll see more of them and I hope so. I enjoyed them. I also wonder if we have something brewing with Mace & Capri? Or is that just wishful thinking on my part🤣

Correcting the wrong

Cane was the perfect body guard doing his job and La’s. Her making it so that karma got to the one who wronged him was good and allowed him to relieve himself of the wrong done to him.

The story was interesting with a slight lul a few times. Overall, the story and the mild suspense were pretty good.

I was excited to dive into this series as the BLP ladies take care of business. This one did not disappoint. Nahla was a hard-nosed journalist, who wanted to help others, and tell truthful stories. While gathering information on her latest story, she finds herself in the crosshairs of police corruption. Never deterred Nahla pressed forward, and things quickly spiral. Her boss is worried about her safety and enlists the help of Porter Protects to assist her.

Cannon runs a tight ship and doesn’t trust anyone other than his sister to help run their business. When he is presented this case, he automatically says no, as journalists are prone to being reckless. However, when he sees a picture of Nahla, he is smitten. Then he finally meets her and knows that she is his to protect. Forced to hide together as the department gets more brazen in their attacks, their chemistry and connection brew quickly.

I love it when the man falls first. These two were just adorable. 🥰 Cannon appreciates the passion and care that Nahla takes with her stories, even at the expense of her family. These small-town cops were no joke with the ish they were up to! 😤 Slowly pieces and clues come together, and they were able to build their case to get justice for the people of Lyle. Enjoyed this! 👍🏾👍🏾

Some crooked people will really stop at nothing. The level of evil it takes to prey on elderly Black families and steal their land is disgusting. Knowing they were already living in a majority white town makes you wonder what they had been forced to endure long before the truth started unraveling. The corruption in this story runs deep and every new discovery made my blood boil.

Nahla is fearless in the way only a true investigative journalist can be. Even when the danger becomes real and personal, she refuses to back down from the truth. That determination is exactly what puts her directly in Cannon’s path.

Cannon is quiet strength. Protective, disciplined and carrying a past that clearly shaped the man he became. What started as protection slowly turned into something deeper and watching Nahla and Cannon become each other’s safe space in the middle of all that chaos was beautiful to read.

Amid lies, corruption and danger, their connection felt genuine and grounding. Sometimes love doesn’t arrive softly. Sometimes it shows up right in the middle of a storm and becomes the one place you finally feel safe.

book two

What can I say about book two of the BLP breeds?!?!

I absolutely loved this book, Jaimsss did an excellent job telling this story. I love Cannon and Nahla, the veteran and the reporter!!! Her boss/father figure hired him to protect her as she was investigating her latest article.

I really thought she was going to give Cannon a hard time but it’s hard to do that when you feel safe around him and the icing on the cake was he felt the same way whenever she was around.

Cannon and Nahla’s love amazing and you will enjoy every moment of it. Make sure you add this book and the rest of this series to your TBR!!

Kept Close (BLP Breeds Book 2)

Alright Jaimass P. This book was really good. From beginning to ending, I was locked in. I love the intrigue and the story behind the stolen land. It was giving me vibes of the city trying to exterminate the Black folks to make an all white city.

When will they ever learn...I digress though.

Cane and La's love story was beautiful. And I'm always here for a protector/protected romance. I'm also happy that her family came around. Can't wait to see what's up next for these two.

I really enjoyed Nahla and Cannon's story. I loved that Nahla's character didn't have the typical " i'm a strong woman who doesn't need anyone " attitude. While she was strong willed and knew what she wanted to achieve , she trusted Cannon enough to allowed him to do his job of protecting her. Although he had his doubts , he allowed her room to do what she set out to do. There were a few editing issues, but despite that the story still flowed pretty well . I can't wait to see more on Nahla, Cannon, and Porters Security.

A beautiful chaotic love

Nahla lowkey had a dangerous job and her boss/father figure got her some protection. Little did she know this protection would change the trajectory of her love life. Cannon was so protective and dominant and did everything in his power to protect his La. 😍 He was so supportive of what she was trying to do. Her family was trash and i was glad the little family that Cannon had showed up for Nahla the way her family didn’t. The Venice trip…..chefs kiss 😘🤌🏾💋(pun intended)🎆🎇 And her being able to tell his story….yes yes yes!!!!

Cannon and Nahla

Cannon is an army veteran that now has his own protection company. He is sensitive around the reason for his discharge from the armed forces. He is hired to provide protection to Nahla.

Nagaland is a reporter in a family of educators. She asks the questions that tend to rock the boat. She is currently researching a story of land being taken away through deceit.

Cannon and Nahla give I. To their attraction while working together. The story she is reporting on is just as interesting as their attraction.

I enjoyed this short read.

Shero & Hero

Behind every shero is a mighty hero, Nahla & Cannon were the dynamic duel of Lyle GA & for each other. ..However, the stolen land & reparations to the residents although noble was underwhelming & a corn storyline. Yet, I appreciated the romance 🥰 which developed between La & Ca🤭🤷🏾‍♀️. Nonetheless, “Kept Close (BLP Breed Series) - Book 2” was still a good read. Hopefully though, their next story will focus on the couple only and not the ancillary town affairs & or family dramas.

Come on La & Carson

I loved the romance in this story. However, I love the the connection more. I was invested to see how it would play out. Thank you for showing light on Carson's struggle in the Marines. That's a true story for a lot of veterans. The town that was swindled out of their land. I felt this. Second chances are hard to give but Carson needed Mace. I was relieved to know there was still love and trust with Carson and Mace. I love La and Carson together. He didn't play with La's family and I love that for her✨️✨️✨️Loved it✨️✨️

Cannon and Nahla, Allowing Love to Love Me Too

New to this author and I was truly impressed with the way this book flowed!!!…
I loved the way the characters personalities meshed so well and the mystery mixed in with the love!!!…
I’m glad to see there will more of these characters, because Cannon was not playing about Nahla!!!…He said her family will have to work a little harder for me to be okay with them on his life!!!…
Nahla’s personality was so contagious and so was Capri!!…
I smiled through this book!!!…

okay.

I enjoyed this romantic suspense featuring investigative journalist, Nahla, and Cannon, the security specialist who’s hired to be her bodyguard as she researches an important story that’s put a target on her back. I liked the story, but thought that it would have benefited and been made a bit more memorable with a bit more depth and complexity around Nahla’s past with her relationship with her family, and with Cannon, a bit more developed character profiling. In the end, this is a novella and an interesting one at that and I liked reading it.

Let me be your protection!

Wowww it was as enlightening as it was passionate. From the fast yet strong energy and vibes from the FMC and MMC this book was good. The storyline was very informative and shed light on some really interesting things but was also just as sensual, intriguing, thrilling. It was a definite page turner. I love Cannon he gave off loyal, dedicated, protective, and sexy. I loved it!

Good Story

I loved Cannon’s and Nalha’s story, it was quick but cute! Cannon came in with all his BDE falling for her just from a picture. And, when he swooped into her life like a knight in shining armor he had her even with her little defiance. Even when Cannon tried to maintain control of his emotions for work purposes he was unable to. I will keep my eyes open for their continuation. Five stars Ms. P🥰

Absolutely Amazing Read

Nahla was only doing a job, but too many people didn't like the job she was doing. Cannon was hired to protect her from these crooked people. She gave him plenty of push back, but he handled her well. Their relationship bloomed. They both learned to trust and love with each other. Nahla learned to take Cannon's lead. Eventually, everything fell into place and so did their love. Awesome read!

Nice book

This was alright for me. Cannon had a crush on Nahla prior to him being her guardian angel. He was always watching their six and not playing with her about her own safety.

I loved how he taught her to play chess when the bad guys were playing checkers. The ending though, that was what she needed and him as they both had qualms about certain things in their life.

A reporter and an ex soldier

La put her life in jeopardy just to people get what was rightfully theirs. It was a shame that nobody in their hometown wanted to help them, and the way La family treated her wasn't right at all. It took for a reporter to come into Cannon life for him to finally open up and find love also.

I love the plot. I have a hard time reading 3rd person dialogue especially with a romance genre. I couldn’t fall in love with La or Cannon because majority of the book wasn’t from their pov. I’m all for instant love though

Nahla was thriving & focused on her career when love snuck up on her. Cannon was a protector through and through and just a man who knew how to treat his lady. I love how it all came together. The journalism was like a bonus thriller/ mystery being uncovered.

This was an awesome read. I was locked into this lovely story. Cannon & Nahla a great chemistry. Cannon was the protector that Nahla needed. Nahla was also able to pull the tenderness from his hard exterior. A perfect combination!! My kind of romance story. The author pen was on fire.

Cannon and Nahla

First time reading from this author. Book was well written, funny but also realistic. I liked the story telling aspect and the way the characters just want together. It was fast paced but also a slow burn if that makes sense. Really nice story!!

haunt for the truth

Nice book with an interesting storyline. I enjoyed reading about this couple and was sad when it ended. But was excited to see that this will not be our last time being able to read about this couple. Other than a few minor errors. Job well done.

Discovered Love

The feelings put into this story with the building of the relationship was overwhelmingly wonderful.

It started off as a job, but it turned into so much more.

The ending was that and more!
