The stakes are at their highest and so is the heat between characters who are living each day as if it is their last. Join the Shaedes on this final epic adventure full of spice, magic, longing—and hope. True colors will shine, and all truths will eventually be brought into the light.
It’s dark fae Hunger Games meets all the warmest parts of Brave, as favorite characters and their deepest desires are put to the ultimate test. Fans of LJ Andrews, Holly Black, and Sarah J. Maas will devour this dramatic conclusion to the dark and romantic Soul Magic Series.
Jenny Grimes writes fantasy romance novels that focus on the blurred lines between worlds, the darkness you’ll find in all of them, and the love that resides there too. She creates her characters and spins her stories from her home in the human realm, where she raises her three little book dragons with her husband, and spends a healthy amount of time reading, travelling, and creating art.
But you chose a different path to peace, one we all saw but would be too afraid to walk alone. It is riddled with unknowns, but I chose to believe that you would light the way. I believe in you.”
I honestly can't belive this is the final book. What an amazing journey this author has taken us on.
From epic color magic, delicious fae, to heart pounding twists, and amazing character development, it will be hard to say goodbye.
What a fantastic ending to the Soul Magic series! I absolutely loved Dru and Markis’s love story. Watching them fight against all odds to be together was so moving.
One of my favorite parts of the book had to be the trials. They were completely different from what I was expecting, but in the best way possible. A memorable experience for sure!
And of course, the love between Opal and her men, Edmyn and Farris, was ever-present throughout the story, adding so much heart and depth. Their bond continues to be one of my favorite elements of this series. And watching the bromance develop was just so much fun!
The ending and epilogues were absolutely heartwarming and felt like the perfect way to wrap everything up. I’m definitely sad to see this series come to an end, but so grateful I got to experience such a beautiful story.
Oh.. My... Goodness. This was the most epic finale to the most epic series. This book kept me hooked until the very end, and I am very sad to see this amazing series end. It was so, so good and I have thoroughly enjoyed my extended stay in The Seam with Opal and the crew. Jenny, congratulations on this most epic series ever!! So much love and support, sweet friend! Thank you for allowing me to be on this most epic journey ever with you!
The final installment of the Soul Magic series was a wonderful ending to this story and these characters. I really enjoyed the trials in the 2nd half of the book and to witness the unfolding of the prophecy and the culmination of the love story between Dru and Markis.
Jenny transports the reader as she consistently paints a picture of this incredible world with her beautiful writing.
I am looking forward to the next series from this exciting author to see what she has in store for us!
Okay, I’ve always loved this series, but this final instalment in the Soul Magic Series was easily my favourite.
While I’m genuinely sad to close the door on this journey, I’m so impressed with how beautifully Jenny wrapped up the characters’ individual stories while still leaving the world open for future possibilities. It felt like the perfect balance between closure and promise - the kind of ending that honours everything that came before while reminding us that this world is still very much alive.
For those of us who have been invested from the beginning, Opal, Edmyn, and Farris’ relationship has always been the true backbone of the series. Watching their love evolve over time, finding its rhythm, strengthening through hardship, and becoming a source of real empowerment, has been such a rewarding journey. Their bond feels steady and enduring, the kind of love that proves itself again and again through loyalty, trust, and choice.
Along the way, we also get to see the other High Shaedes finding their own versions of love, each pairing perfectly suited to their personalities. And I have to say, Dru and Markis might be one of my favourite dynamics in this book. The banter, the tension, the push and pull between them, all balanced with that undeniable devotion beneath the surface. They bring the zing, but also those delicious “I’m not making this easy for you” vibes that made their story so entertaining and somewhat heart wrenching to watch unfold. I won’t lie there were times I wanted to shout at Dru, “what are you doing woman!”.
By the end, it truly felt like every Shaede had grown into their role. Considering how young and relatively inexperienced they all were and the immense pressure surrounding them, the way they navigated politics, conflict, and responsibility with determination and fairness was incredibly satisfying to witness. More than once I found myself thinking how proud the loved ones they’ve lost - parents, guardians, mentors, would be of the leaders they’ve become.
The trials were such a fantastic addition as well. They brought tension and excitement while giving us deeper insight into each character’s strength, resilience, and resolve. They never felt separate from the main plot either, instead they wove seamlessly into the story and raised the stakes beautifully. And I absolutely cheered at one particular moment when a certain someone made an appearance. Such a brilliant scene.
And I have to say this: so much love for Markis. Here’s another character whose life has been shaped by darkness and hardship, yet he holds onto such a strong heart and unwavering devotion. He refuses to give up, not on the people he loves and not on doing what’s right and that kind of resilience makes him impossible not to root for.
I also really loved the layers of court politics woven throughout the story. It added intrigue, tension, and kept me constantly wondering where alliances truly lay. Watching the characters travel between lands and interact with the different courts was such a great way to expand the world and I loved that some of the courts I expected to be the most difficult actually ended up surprising me.
Overall, this book was incredibly well written and completely absorbing. I was hooked from start to finish and absolutely devoured it. It felt like a deeply satisfying conclusion while still leaving space for future stories in this world, which I would happily return to in a heartbeat.
I can’t believe this series is over! But what an incredible ride it has been. Being able to watch these characters grow into their power and find love in the most unexpected of places is such an amazing thing to see and I’m so honored to be a part of this amazing arc team.
Join Opal and her friends in one last intense mission where they will face challenges they have never experienced before. This story follows Dru, Opal’s best friend and one of the High Shaedes. When she lets love into her life in the form of a handsome dark fae named Markis, she and her love will have to fight to fight tooth and nail to maintain the peace they just found. Will there love survive?
For me, after just reading the first few pages I was already in love and knew I’d give it a six star rating! Jenny once again shows her amazing writing skills and paints beautiful images and scenes with her words, by gripping readers by the heart and holding on tight. The emotions I felt while reading were all over the place especially the ending but I absolutely loved the emotional journey! If you’re looking for yearning, redemption, found family, high stakes, and marriage triples, then please check out this book!
And can we just take a moment for Lord Markis! He may be my new favorite book boyfriend! Or at least in my top three! His devotion and determination and integrity during this story was so beautiful and amazing to see. He may be a big, rough, and intimidating male, but really he’s such a sweetheart!
The best thing I love about this series was the beautiful and powerful friendships with Opal, Leyanna, Glory, and Dru. I said it in my first review but these girls remind me so much of my own friends and how close we are in our bond. Always there for each other and so supportive. Lifting each other up and encouraging each other to follow their destinies!
If you love ACOTAR, Hunger Games, Cruel Prince, and Fourth Wing, then please check out Shaedes of War Jenny Grimes, this beautiful dark romantasy will be available everywhere March 24th and be sure to check you the rest of the completed Soul Magic Series! I highly recommend this entire series and I honestly can’t wait to read more from this author!
Each book in the Soul Magic series has focused on Opal or one of her friends. In Shaedes of War, it's Dru's turn. With her being the highly strategic fae, trained in battle, she is able to separate her emotions from her decisions (at least in the moment). And sadly she is so self-sacrificing that she is willing to give up her eternal happiness in order to keep the peace.
These dwarves! Coming out of nowhere and making all these demands. Quite honestly, Lord Bayne got exactly what he deserved. And to have it delivered by the hand of his precious obedient son was the perfect karma.
I loved seeing more of Opal's relationship with Edmyn and Farris and the little family they have with Colin. I do feel like Edmyn's concerns about being with Opal and Farris forever seemingly get brushed over at the end oof the story. I did love that Edmyn was shown to be a trustworthy man to more than just Opal’s friends. All three of them do show their devotions to each other. But the true standout of this story was Markis! Literally willing to do whatever it takes to be with Dru. He definitely has quite a few swoon-worthy lines in this book, and I'm so glad he gets his happily ever after.
I do wonder if Dru was actually pregnant already when Opal gave her blessing. I wonder if the blessing wouldn't have stuck if there wasn't already a baby growing inside her. We do get a beautiful ending to a wonderful series. I'm too glad to have been able to read this series as each book came out, it's been an amazing ride!
If you want a completed series with prophecies, redemption, betrayal, color magic system, why choose, found family vs chosen family, fae and vampires, dwarves reimagined, epic world-building, a morally gray world, a haunted anti-hero, marriage trials, and impossible choices, then check out Shaedes of War and the entire Soul Magic series!
I received an advanced review copy from the author. This review contains my honest opinion and is being left voluntarily.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
It was sad to see this series come to an end but it was a fun ride. This book was the perfect ending to this story.
While this book is in Opal’s pov it follows Dru especially in the second half. Dru is the prize of a marriage trial with 4 competitors and only one of them will walk away with her hand. Will it be her dark lord or will it be someone else?
I loved Markis in this book. He didn’t want to lose the love of his life so he would do whatever he had to in order to keep her even if it meant possibly dying. Who wouldn’t love a man that would do anything to make sure you were okay and to keep you even when you were fighting yourself and not believing you deserved happiness.
Poor Dru I felt for her so much in this book. She would throw her own happiness in the trash to protect her people. No one should feel like they have to do that.
I really liked the second half of the book with the trials. They were fun and kept me on the edge of my seat especially the third trial. That third trial had me scared because I didn’t know how it would go. You hope it goes one way but you never know.
I also loved seeing Edymn and Farris’s relationship in this book. They are always a funny pair and I loved seeing how much their relationship grew. They both love Opal but also each other and you can really see it in this book.
I absolutely adored Collin. That kid might be Farris’s half brother but that doesn’t mean he isn’t treated like family. I loved getting to know him and seeing him grow up.
Overall I really liked this book and while it’s sad to see this series end I can’t wait to see what Jenny writes next. I read this book as an arc.
I just have to share my favorite quote from the prologue: “You don’t know how beautiful you are, Dru. You don’t know how bad I want ye or how much I can’t stop thinking about ye. I’d dig a hole to the other side of the world if it meant I’d find you there waiting for me.”
Thank you to the author for sending me the gifted copy to read!
This series has been SO amazing, and I'm so grateful to have been on the entire ride! Shaedes of War is the conclusion of the series. In this installment, the 5 Shaedes face so many challenges as the fight for peace instead of war. I swear, every time something resolves, something else comes up!
I love that Opal, Edmyn, and Farris as still strong as ever. I really love how they love each other, and take care of each other. And I love how Edmyn and Farris' bond has gotten stronger. It feels like forever.
Markis and Dru are adorable! Dru is super committed to her position as a Shaede. While it is admirable of her, in this book it goes against everything she feels. I was heartbroken for her! I loved how their bond grew and how loyal and devoted Markis was to Dru. Although, I just couldn't get into how Markis spoke haha! It gave me pirate vibes :)
Lennyx and Glory are so cute as well! I am so happy that they are doing well and that they can be a comfort to each other. They both deserve it!
Collin is the cutest! They all treat him like family and I love how he is respectful of them even though Farris is his brother. It was great to see him grow up and come into his own!
As always, the story and the characters and the world building were all amazing. Jenny is an amazing writer, and I'm so thankful to be on her team! One thing that really stood out to me that I LOVED was the part about Edmyn's lemon tree. So sweet and I smiled the entire time! I loved it for him and I loved how tenderly and carefully it was written!
I know this series is over (sad), but I can't wait for Jenny's next book!!
Tropes: Fae x Vampires Dark Romantasy Color Magic Dragons High-Stakes Trials Prophecy Complicated Love Power Struggles & Political Intrigue Found Family Duty vs Desire
I went into Shaedes of War expecting a strong continuation of the Soul Magic Series, but what I got was an emotionally charged, high-stakes finale that fully delivered. Jenny Grimes raises the tension from the first chapter and never lets it slip—every scene feels like it matters, and every choice carries weight. I was completely invested in the outcome, not just for the romance, but for the future of the Seam and everyone caught in the fallout of prophecy, politics, and power.
One of the biggest strengths of this book is how intensely character-driven it is. I loved watching loyalty get tested, relationships strain under pressure, and long-held truths finally come into the light. The marriage trials brought a brutal, edge-of-your-seat energy to the story, and the court unrest added an extra layer of danger that kept me turning pages. There’s a real sense that no one is safe from consequence, and that made the victories feel earned rather than convenient.
The romance was exactly what I wanted—passionate, complicated, and deeply felt. The emotional push and pull hit hard, and the chemistry stayed strong even when everything around the characters threatened to break them. I also appreciated that the spice never came at the expense of the plot; it enhanced the intensity and kept the connection between the characters front and center during the most chaotic moments.
Most importantly for me, this ending delivered. It gave me a true HEA that still felt consistent with the darkness and sacrifice that came before it. Shaedes of War is the kind of finale that makes you look back at the entire series and feel grateful you took the journey—because the payoff is real, the emotions land, and the story closes with both heart and satisfaction.

🩸 Fae x Vampires 🌑 Dark Romantasy 🎨 Color Magic 🐉 Dragons ⚔️ High-Stakes Trials 🔮 Prophecy 🔥 Complicated Love 👑 Power Struggles & Political Intrigue 🛡 Found Family 💔 Duty vs Desire 🌶️🌶️🌶️
This series has been utterly captivating, and 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐖𝐚𝐫 brings it all to a powerful, satisfying close. The five Shaedes face relentless challenges as they fight to preserve peace and hold war at bay—and just when you think they’ve caught a breath, the next blow lands.
Opal, Farris, and Edmyn are stronger than ever as a triad. Their bond feels effortless and unshakable, each of them perfectly balancing the others with unwavering loyalty and care. It’s the kind of connection that feels both grounding and rare.
Dru and Markis completely stole my heart. Dru’s steadfast commitment to her duty is both admirable and heartbreaking, especially as she struggles against what she feels. And Markis…his devotion, his persistence—he never falters. Watching their dynamic unfold was equal parts beautiful and painful.
I loved seeing Glory and Lennyx and witnessing how their relationship has grown, and Leyanna and Aydion continue to bring that fiery, electric energy that’s impossible not to enjoy. And precious Collin really comes into his own.
With new characters entering the mix, uncertain alliances, looming enemies, and the high-stakes marriage trials for Dru’s hand, there’s no shortage of intrigue. All the while, a prophecy threads through it all, quietly building toward something bigger.
One of my absolute favorite moments? Edmyn and the lemon tree. It was unexpected, tender, and honestly filled my heart with 𝘀𝗼 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗷𝗼𝘆.
This is a strong, emotional conclusion to the series—and no doubt this world still has more stories to tell.
Special thanks to the author for the gifted copy 💚
Thank you so much Jenny Grimes for the eARC of Shaedes of War. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
It’s always a little bittersweet to finish the last book in a series. However, Jenny Grimes did an amazing job writing the final installment in the Soul Magic series in a way that will leave readers feeling satisfied about their last goodbye to the beloved characters they’ve gotten to know over the last four books. It’s heartfelt, intense, romantic, full of twists, and of course, spice!
One of my favorite parts of the book was the three marriage trials Dru’s potential suitors had to complete in order to secure her hand in marriage. I absolutely flew through the pages nervously cheering on my favorite contestant, while trying to figure out how he was going to successfully conquer each task. By the way, the first trial was my absolute favorite! I’ve not read about a trial like that before in a romantic fantasy book, but I hope I read more in the future because it was diabolical!
Let’s talk romance! Although the series is “why choose”, I appreciated that author Jenny Grimes included scenes that featured FMC, Opal, with each of her partners individually. I do have one mate that I’m more drawn to than the other, so I enjoyed reading about their specific romantic connection one more time.
Finally, I loved the two epilogues! What a great way to end the series!

Thank you Jenny and @aethonbooks for letting me be part of the ARC team for Shaedes of War ahead of its release 💚
This final installment raises the stakes as an ancient prophecy, rising tensions, and looming war push the High Shaedes to their limits. This time, we dive deeper into Dru’s story as she faces impossible choices—including sacrificing herself in brutal marriage trials to protect the realm.
What I’ve loved most about this series is the bond between the High Shaedes. Each book builds on their individual journeys, and here you really feel the weight of their loyalty, sacrifice, and shared purpose.
Opal, Edmyn, and Farris continue to be the emotional core—her constant in the chaos. Watching how far they’ve come, both individually and together, was so satisfying.
The marriage trials were a standout and really solidified Markis proving himself worthy of Dru. That final stretch flew by, and the emotional payoff hit.
I also loved seeing the continued growth of each character as they step fully into their roles, alongside new faces that help push the story forward and expand the world.

The last book in the series that started with the love story of Opal and her two mates, Edmyn and Farris, has now come to an end. in this book , through Opal we get to follow the story of the last high fae Dru, who offers her own hand in marriage to prevent blood shed and a war from starting, when others try to spread hate. But, by offering herself, Dru has created high walls around herself choosing duty over heart, high walls a certain dark Lord will stop at nothing to climb.
i give this book 3 out of 5 stars because it wasn't really what i expected it to be, the events, the outcomes and the reasons. but I did enjoy the book! the description of each character, the rooms and everything happening is very clear and written in a believable way that you get a clear picture what is going on. there is more jokes happening between Opals mate in this book that is really entertaining and that i enjoyed immensely! for me the book was in the beginning a bit slow, but after things started happening, boy did they happen! i thought i knew what would happend but then Jenny went in another direction.
the book is gruesome, warming and brutal to the heart. A character so disgusting you want to slap him silly, a brutal fight that you are on pins and needles cheering on, "you can do it!" and a wonderful ending in so many ways! I cant say more without spoling so im not saying anything else :p
i can recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a dark romance with marriage trials, faes and magic.
Shaedes of War by Jenny Grimes Soul Magic Series book 4 and finale! Releases 3/24!
Thank you to Jenny for entrusting me with an early copy!
Modern day romantasy Why choose, found family, several romances, unique color magic system, each book expands the world building, traumatic pasts, court politics, prophecy, talking animals, betrayal, marriage trials, fae/vampires/dwarves, redemption
In the final book of this series, we see the peace our crew has fought so hard for be threatened due to a prophecy. Dru is convinced she needs to marry to keep the peace, and then this offer is turned into a set of trials for her hand. Her dark fae love enters even when most think he will not be able to win. But he would rather perish than watch her marry another. Will love win the day or will the balance choose another victor to be the parent of the chosen one?
Ooops I stayed up til 1 am to finish this. We still are experiencing the story through Opal's POV, which I enjoyed as we are still seeing her come to terms with her magic. And because she is at the center of the prophecy. As with the rest of the series, I love Opal and her her mates as well as the rest of this found family! The multiple romances have made me so happy as we make our way through the series! Ahhh the ending!! This was a wonderful finale to the series and I'm excited to see what Jenny does next!
“She was the vision that had carried him through heartache. She was the image of kindness and compassion when he was unable to find any more for himself. She was the idea that love could be quiet, the concept that passion didn’t need to start like wildfire as long as it ended in an all consuming burn.”
What an ending to the Soul Magic series!! I was lucky enough to be able to ARC read all 4 books in this series 🫶🏻 thank you to @author.jennygrimes for that and for writing these amazing books. I have loved so much seeing Opal and her mates, as well as all of the other high Shaedes come into their own through these stories! I loved Dru’s story and even more so, i loved Lord Markis. I knew I was gonna love him because of his banter throughout the other books! The plot and storyline in this one was one of my faves and I’m so sad to see the series end… but on the bright side, so excited to see what Jenny does next!! 💚⚔️ If you like why choose, romantasy with good spice AND plot, and especially games and trials - this is the one for you! 🫶🏻
Firstly, I simply adore the way Jenny Grimes writes. Her vernacular, her tone, her descriptions… I like to say her writing is like a decadent slice of chocolate cake. It’s addictive!
Secondly, the Soul Magic series was my fist ARC series ever, and it’s always had a special place in my heart. To see it finished in such a fantastic way was inspiring and so satisfying. This beautiful conclusion to what has been one of my favorite stories to date is the perfect last book. It ties up all loose ends, gives us really creative and exciting trials that step away from the typical stuff we see in books, and gives us two amazing epilogues full of tear-jerking content.
Thirdly, I can’t recommend this series enough. It’s a solid story with incredible and memorable characters, sexy spicy scenes, and stories that stick with the reader.
Shaedes of War is a beautiful conclusion to a wonderful series, and it gives us a satisfying and emotional ending. I loved every second of this book.
Thank you, Jenny, and please write us more stories!!
I truly love this series and it is bittersweet to have it be over… how to do this without spoilers….
My cheeks hurt from smiling, my eyes are puffy and red from crying. I forgot to breathe for a few chapters, so the headache is either from that or the crying. It’s a hot mess over here but I love every little bit of how I feel right now. The emotional rollercoaster this book takes you on is everything I look for. This world just sucks you in and makes you want to keep reading - the friendships forged by these characters are permanent and searing, the multiple love stories you experience from Opal’s perspective are heartbreaking, soothing, and rooted in real issues with a magical spin- self doubt, feeling unworthy, feeling other or on the outside as with all books check your triggers. Don’t forget sassy dragons and their riders and vampires and fae like you’ve never seen before. Give this series a go, while 1000% biased, it’s up there as one of my favs. Thank you so much Jenny for this ARC journey, I am so grateful for the opportunity and cannot wait for what’s next!
What a bittersweet end to the Soul Magic Series. This finale brings everything full circle with a really cool magic system, prophecies, found family, and the fierce loyalty that has carried these characters from page one. I adored Markis, and I honestly just wish we’d gotten more time from Dru’s POV.
The trial aspect were really interesting and just really showed how Dru is always ready to sacrifice it all for the greater good. In that vain, so would Opal, the way she steps into balancing fear, responsibility, and the weight of what the prophecy demanded, reminded me why we've all loved following her journey.
Above all though, what continues to shine brightest in this series is the friendships. The bonds between these characters, the way they fight, love, and choose each other again and again… that’s the heart of Soul Magic, and it’s woven through so well.
“We have today" "And today we fight for us." "Today we love." "Today we live."
Thank you so much to Jenny for letting me be part of this ARC journey. #shaedes
🌶🌶🌶🌶 This was a really great wrap-up for this 4 book series. I absolutely love how it tied all the loose strings in a pretty little bow and introduced some new openings for spinoff series that can exist in this incredibly beautiful and ethereal world that Jenny has built over the course of the Soul Magic series. This book had me feeling so many different emotions. One moment I would be swooning, the next angry and wrathful, the next kicking my feet with glee and the next sad and defeated. It also had such great humor in it that had me genuinely laughing. It was all really well done. One of the most well done aspects in this series continues to be the spice. The why choose between Opal, Edmyn and Farris ramped up in this book and had me absolutely feral over their relationship. I love how much the 3 of them also support one another in every aspect of their lives. They truly are THE power throuple. I loved getting to see more sides to Dru's character in this book as well. Getting to see a softer side to her was really special. Overall such a great series, and although it hurts to see something come to an end, I am also so excited to see what comes from Jenny Grimes next.
It’s always a bitter sweet when a series you love comes to a close. This series definitely felt fresh and new compared to other Romantasy books I’ve read. This book did give the series closure in its plot and characters, but leaves room for the author to continue another storyline if she chooses.
I loved Markis and Dru and their relationship. I also enjoyed including trials in this story, however trial one was a little cheesy (in my opinion). The final trial was exciting though and had me on my toes wondering how it would end!
I enjoyed seeing more of Opal with Farris and Edmyn and seeing how comfortable they have grown with one another. Their chapters of just them together were my favorite parts of the book and I could’ve used more of that!
Thank you, Jennie for allowing me to be on your arc team for this series!! I loved them so much and I’m grateful you allowed me this opportunity!
“You turned a dark magic spell into a field full of flowers?” 🌸✨
Shaedes of War is the fourth book in the series and such a fun read! It starts a little slow, but the intensity really builds as you go. 🔥 The trials gave me Hunger Games meets Triwizard Tournament vibes, and I loved them—especially the last one. 👀💥
Edmyn and Markis bring such a great contrast to the purity of the Shaedes, and their love for their mates is intense .❤️🔥 And wow… the spice in this one 🌶️🔥 let’s just say… toe-curling and mind-spinning. 😮💨
Oh—and Collin.🥹 You will fall in love with him. Such a sweet kid who just wants to protect the realm and become fae… but will they let him? 👀✨
As with the other books, I loved discovering the different Shaedes and their powers. Honestly, I’d take a bit of each… plus a dragon 🐉 (her name would be Cora. 💁♀️)
Thank you so much to Jenny Grimes for including me on her ARC team. 💖📚
This book is the fourth and final installment in The Soul Magic Series. My heart was not ready for it to be over. I have followed this series from the start and absolutely will miss this world and these characters I have grown to love. This book was of course so amazing! I always love these books and can't get enough of them! The characters were amazing like normal. Opal, Edmyn, and Farris are of course my favorites. They would do anything for each other. Markis was definitely a character I was rooting for the whole book! The way you do the plot is amazing! I am always on edge needing to know how they will push through. This book had my emotions all over the place and that ending had my heart! I can't wait to read what you do next!! I highly recommend you check out Shades of Power! This series will absolutely wreck you but it is so worth it! Thank you so much @author.jennygrimes for the opportunity to be a part of the ARC Team!!💚💚💚
Jenny Grimes absolutely delivered with Shaedes of War! This finale had me hooked from start to finish, and I’m honestly not ready to say goodbye to Opal, Dru, and the rest of the High Shaedes. Watching their journeys unfold across the series has been such an emotional, action-packed ride.
The stakes in this book felt higher than ever. Between the looming prophecy, rising tension at court, and dangerous new adversaries, there was never a moment to breathe. Dru’s sacrifice? Heartbreaking and powerful. The marriage trials added such a unique twist, and the emotional weight behind every decision made this story hit even harder.
What I loved most is how fiercely these characters fight for what’s right, even when it costs them everything. Loyalty, love, sacrifice—it’s all here, wrapped in a world that kept me completely invested.
I’m going to miss these characters and their world so much. But if this is the end, it was one unforgettable one. Still… I wouldn’t complain about more 👀
Shaedes of War is a beautiful ending to a beautiful series. Reading Opal and Dru have their moment in the sun and seeing what true friendship and leadership is through their relationship as they take on a final challenge in being the High Shaedes is beautiful and breathtaking. There were so many amazing moments through out the book and so many twists and turns that you don't quite know what's going to happen next. There are sad moments, angry moments and celebratory moments and Jenny wove them together and created a beautiful ending to her series debut to the fantasy world. I'm so happy that I got to be a part of her journey starting with Shaedes of Power and seeing this wonderful world that she has created and the spice was a nice bonus *wink wink*. If you haven't read Shaedes of Power yet, read it and following two, Shaedes of Fire and Shaedes of Beasts, so that you can read this beautiful finale!
Finally back to my favourite thruple 😭 I missed being with Opal, Edmyn and Farris. I was really happy to see Opal coping so well with her magic. I was delighted to see Lennyx and Glory so happy together after everything they both went through in the last book. Oh Dru 😭 My heart was breaking for her! And for Markis, they’re perfect for each other. The trials were so interesting, they kept me on my toes for sure. I could never guess what Jandell would come up with and I couldn’t decide whether to trust her or not. I was so glad to trust her in the end. This book had me gasping, happy crying multiple times, and in awe of every single one of these beautiful characters that Jenny brought to life. I am so grateful to have gotten the chance to witness their journey from beginning to end, it was truly magical.
First of all, I’ve really enjoyed being part of Jenny’s ARC team! This final book brought both the story and the series together beautifully, and I think she handled that balance so well.
Each book in the series explored different characters and relationships while still centering the core dynamic between Opal, Edmyn, and Farris. This installment focused on what is arguably the cutest couple of them all, and I absolutely loved that. Markis was such a standout for me—his character growth felt genuine and rewarding to watch. At the same time, Dru’s internal struggle between doing what’s right for the kingdom and following her heart added a lot of emotional depth to the story. The ending was satisfying and heartfelt, wrapping things up nicely while still leaving the door open for a potential new series. I’d definitely be excited to see where the story goes next!
Shaedes of War is the final book in the Soul Magic series by Jenny Grimes and it does not disappoint. Having worked and sacrificed the last few years for peace in the Balance and the Seam, the High Shaedes are finally able to return home after visiting the various courts. However, all they have achieved and worked for are threatened when new pieces of information are revealed. If you have been following this series then you need to read this!
It’s bittersweet to see this series come to an end but it has been such a joy and a pleasure to be present from the beginning. I thought I knew where things were headed but there were also moments that kept me wondering just exactly IS happening. Overall it’s been a wonderful adventure and I can’t wait to see what’s coming up next time!
Thank you so much to Jenny Grimes for the gifted ARC! All opinions are my own.
Shaedes of War is the fourth book in the Soul Magic series by Jenny Grimes. I am honoured to have been given the opportunity to read and review an advanced copy of Shaedes of War. The following review contains my own thoughts, opinions and feelings about the book.
The Soul Magic books explore multiple magical courts, fae and other mythical and fantasy creatures. Shaedes of War also features political intrigue, high stakes and trials. I love the unique magic system and the balance between light and dark magic. Every time I have the opportunity to read another instalment from the Soul Magic series, I am transported into a magical realm, where I am the main character.
I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to continue the fourth book. Thank you to the author Jenny Grimes for an advanced copy.
JENNY!!! girl i'm... well, truthfully, i'm in despair. because i can't believe this story is really over. i know there is so much more to come from you and other series, but opal truly has my heart. reading the love shared between her and... well, you know. it just... i can't get over how incredibly heart-wrenching this story could be, while enthralling me from page one. no one was trustworthy until i had read the last page, and that is a testament to how you write your characters. they have true dichotomy. i'm obsessed.
thank you to jenny grimes for my ARC copy. this review was left of my own volition and there was no reward or incentive to review positively. i just really love jenny, okay?
