This particular day Pearl was feeling grumpy, she didn't want her breakfast, she didn't want to wash her face and she didn't want to get dressed. He Mum tried to get her to stop being so grumpy but Pearl disappeared to her bedroom.

Then the door bell rang and Pearl dashed to answer it and there was a small white tufty beard standing on his suitcase so as to be able to reach the bell. Immediately sniffing food, the bear dashes in and tucks into breakfast... and then wants more!

The bear then wants to play and he gets into all sorts of antics in doing so. He ends up on top of the wardrobe and it is time for lunch. He takes it where he is and consumes seven pieces of pizza, 11 carrots and 15 sugar buns.

He then gets into more antics , including jumping in the fountain and having a swim before it is time for tea. Nine honey sandwiches, 11 bowls of mild and too many ice creams are eaten by the bear.

By this time Pearl is tired and wants to go to bed but the bear says 'No' and carries on playing and wrecking the home. Eventually pPearl has had enough and shouts, 'STOP!' The bear is perturbed when Pearl tells him it is a mess. 'MESS?', he says and decides it is time for him to go, which he does.

Then n comes Mum and Pearls, very contritely says, 'I will help tidy up, I will wash my face, I will brush my hair ...'. Pearl then gets from Mum everything she wants, which is ...

A lovely way for children to reflect on their own behaviours and how they may appear to others. I like the role reversal and the stubborness and michief of both the bear and Pearl.

Depicts the essence of 4-year-old-ness. No wonder Joey likes to read this three times in a row every time we read it. He's saying, "Come on, Mama. Maybe if we read this one more time you'll start to understand what it's like to be me."

The illustrations are really nice, but there's not a lot to the book and the "see how you like it" thing has been done so many times. So. many. times.Plus, what's with all the No's?! Sheesh!
