There’s a reason I keep returning to this author’s stories time after time. Probst knows how to involve you completely in the story. It’s not just the characters; it’s also the story's atmosphere.
This one doesn't have the kind of drama that makes your heart pound. Is there drama? Absolutely. We experience their heartwarming moments and heartbreaking ones too. But The Summer Between Us is written with an easy flow and beautiful pacing throughout.
The characters are just amazing. I fell in love with every single one of them. From our main characters to the sweet teenage daughter and all of the uncles and aunties. Every character had a purpose and brought enrichment to the story.
Our two lead characters slowly grew their love, even though they were so different on the surface. Finding themselves was obvious to us, but living through the transformation, and just knowing that they would find a way made the story.
I fell in love with the characters, the waves, and the peace of the island. Big feelings throughout; fun, sexy, romantic, and so fulfilling. Sigh

2.5 stars for me. I loved Kelsey’s story. I loved Rowan’s story. I loved Everett’s story. I hated Rowan and Everett’s story. Every time he called her sweetheart I cringed. Every smut scene when he was dominant didn’t fit. Rowan wouldn’t have been okay with that and the fact that it gave her heart eyes was so unrealistic. Since the majority of the book was about Rowan and Everett it just missed for me.

I really enjoyed this story about two people, from different worlds, falling for one another.
Of course, it is the love story you expect, but the surfing and life lessons make it more. This was a strangely predictable, yet thought-provoking love story.

This might be my first ever 5 star book read for this genre.
It was smart, spicy and fun. The banter was hilarious and draws the reader into the story.

Sweet and spicy I really enjoyed the story. I was hooked within the first few pages and completely swept away. Yes it is a love story but you add in surfing and the life lessons make it so much more than just a love story. Their chemistry is instant and electric.

Loved Rowan & Everett’s story!
I was hooked within the first few pages and completely swept away by this book. Rowan, a former rising surf champion still healing from the injury that ended her career, is just trying to keep her head above water working at a Waikiki surf shack—until she meets lonely young Kelsey, who’s desperate to ride the waves. The only complication? Kelsey’s controlling, workaholic single dad, Everett, who’s in Hawaii strictly for business and wants nothing to do with a free-spirited surf instructor teaching his daughter to chase the ocean instead of opportunities.
Their chemistry is instant and electric. Watching Rowan help Kelsey find her courage while slowly cracking Everett’s rigid, career-focused shell was pure magic. The Hawaii setting is gorgeous, the banter is sharp, and the emotional layers—grief, single parenthood, rediscovering joy—hit all the right notes. This story has all the feels and delivers that perfect “I don’t want summer to end” ache.
If you’re looking for a heartfelt, forced-proximity romance with strong character growth, beautiful island vibes, and a hero and heroine who challenge everything they thought they wanted, this is it. A great summer read.

4.75⭐️ The most perfect summer romance read! It’s takes place in Hawaii which I just came back from and the descriptions of surfing, the island, and the people were perfection! Loved the story from start to finish! ❤️❤️❤️

Rowan Delaney was once a competitive surfer, but after losing her father and then suffering an injury that ended her career, she’s been keeping the ocean at a distance. She works at a surf shop in Waikiki, surrounded every day by the life she used to have.
Then thirteen-year-old Kelsey shows up wanting to learn how to surf.
Honestly, Kelsey stole a huge piece of this book for me. She’s struggling with bullying, loneliness, and a father who loves her but is so focused on providing a successful life that he isn’t really seeing the daughter standing in front of him. Watching Rowan connect with her and give her confidence was one of my favorite parts of the story.
And then there’s Everett—aka “Suit.”
Everett is buttoned-up, ambitious, controlling, and convinced he knows what’s best. Rowan is basically his worst nightmare. Naturally, the chemistry between them is VERY inconvenient.
I loved their banter and how their summer arrangement slowly became something neither planned for. But what really got me was watching all three of them change. Rowan begins figuring out who she is when the dream she spent her life chasing is gone. Everett starts realizing that success means very little if he misses his daughter growing up. And Kelsey begins finding her own voice.
There’s also a wonderful found-family feeling around the surf community, plenty of Hawaiian atmosphere, some heat, emotional moments, and Bagel the rabbit providing his own opinions about Everett.
This one surprised me with how much heart was tucked inside the romance. It’s really about grief, family, starting over, and realizing sometimes the life you planned isn’t necessarily the life that will make you happiest.

The Summer Between Us was a beautiful story about love, healing, growth, and found family, and I adored every second. This was so much more than just Rowan and Everett. Yes, it was about them together, but also about them separately, his daughter, finding happiness, and learning to move forward in life and be happy. I loved the details and build. This story melted my heart!
Talk about opposites attract! Everett was so buttoned-up and by-the-book, always trying to do the right thing, while Rowan was more laid-back and trying to find some peace after life-altering events. I loved them meeting and the verbal sparring between them. The tension was palpable, but I liked how they softened bit by bit as they got to know each other. I liked the building attraction growing between them and them connecting. I felt for Rowan and how she was grieving certain losses, but loved her strength as she moved forward and opened her heart. I liked watching Everett step outside of his shell and grow.
In the mix was Everett’s sweet daughter Kelsey and all of Rowan’s found family. I loved the story with Kelsey. I felt for her and her growing pains, but I loved her blossoming and coming into her own and how her relationship with her father grew. I loved the sense of community and how everyone rallied together and how Rowan reconnected with people, repairing past relationships. There was a lot of surfing terminology used, and I definitely got an education. It was easy enough to follow, but there was a lot of it.
I love a story that makes me feel, and this one definitely did. It was filled with pockets of emotion that had me choking up. I absolutely loved this story. A father of a teenage daughter spends a summer in Hawaii while he finishes a business deal. They both will find a new relationship which will bring them both a new way of life and peace. I love this authors books.

Rowan was easy to root for, her whole journey back to the ocean after her injury felt earned, and I loved her found family, that island crew gave the story so much warmth. Everett was fine, but I wanted more of him beyond "grumpy workaholic dad who slowly softens." The Kelsey and Rowan bond was honestly my favorite part. Setting was gorgeous and did a lot of heavy lifting, even with the surfing jargon being a bit much at times. A little predictable and could've been trimmed down, but a solid, easy read.

An amazing summer romance that was beautifully crafted and so well told. I loved the dynamic between Rowan and Kelsey, but even more so between Rowan and Everett. Nothing makes me swoon more than a grumpy, overworked man whose heart is softened by someone who is completely wrong for him. I also loved the setting. It truly made you feel like you were in Hawaii, out on the water learning to surf right alongside them.

I picked this for my August 2026 - Amazon First Reads selection.
Rating: 2.5 Stars
I thought romance, Hawaii, this will be cute. It was for the first quarter of the book and hard not to fall in love with Rowan, Everett, Kelsey, ans of course Bagel. The tension and banter were good as Rowan and Everett sparred with each other. Where things broke down for me was when spice (🌶️) was added. It felt forced, and IMO lost the tension between the MCs falling in love. It just felt forced and ruined the entire dynamic. Honestly, the story would have been better if it were a closed door romance.
Another issue I had was regarding the time line, this is one of those books that could have benefited from a time check- in at each chapter letting the reader know when in the summer timeframe we were. Maybe like a countdown to the hotel opening???
I also think we got a little too much Rowan story and not enough Everett time - especially his time in the office. It was sprinkled in, something would be mentioned and I was waiting for the follow -up and didn’t get closure.
For me Kelsey (teenager) was the most complete character in the story.

Great Hawaiian vibe and super summer read.
Love in Hawaii brought back fond memories of my vacation in Hawaii. I visited the Dole Plantation and did some of the other stuff mentioned, except it was with my 85-year-old Gramma. It was a wonderful trip! I loved seeing Everett work his magic on the resort he was building. Rowan was a competitive surfer until a wipe out shortly after her father died. Now she works in a surfboard shop. Enter teenaged Kelsey who is in Hawaii for the summer with her dad Everett. Kelsey wants to learn to surf but had a bad first experience with a surf instructor. The pace is engrossing and the tone is uncertain yet hopeful with a character centered storyline that has some steamy scenes. The characters are vivid and engaging. The character development is so fun to watch for all 3 of them. This is my fist book by Jennifer Probst, but it won't be may last. Enjoy the Hawaiian vibes in this enemies to lovers romance!
Love in Hawaii brought back fond memories of my vacation in Hawaii. I visited the Dole Plantation and did some of the other stuff mentioned, except it was with my 85-year-old Gramma. It was a wonderful trip! I loved seeing Everett work his magic on the resort he was building. Rowan was a competitive surfer until a wipe out shortly after her father died. This was so slow moving. There was way too much dialog about surfing . It became boring.
I’m sure there was a HEA, but at 50% , I didn’t really care to get to it .

I really enjoyed this book. Jennifer Probst’s writing style is wonderful and she knows how to create characters that you really like. After reading her series all set in Italy, I was excited to see what she did in a Hawaii setting and it was fantastic! Absolutely made me want to go back to Hawaii for a visit.
