I thought I saw the scarred, alien warrior’s heart-stars light up… that means he’s my mate, right?

Making choices has never been easy. I’ve been burned before. But when you’re surrounded by towering, winged aliens whose hearts literally glow when they’ve found their 'one', the choice seems made for me.

Only… Zyntarr is covered in scars. So many scars that his heart-stars barely shine, no matter how hard I hope. And every time I’m near him, my body betrays me, craving him, wanting him in ways I’m not supposed to - not until I make that choice.

What if I'm wrong about us? What if my heart leads me to him… and it ends up breaking both of us?

**Alien Protector's Scars is the fifth book in The Fated Mates of the Winged Barbarians series. It is not a standalone and the books will need to be read in order to understand the context and worldbuilding. If you enjoy primitive alien jungles, virgin heroes who have never seen women before, and 7ft winged guys who are devoted to their fated mates, dive right in to the first book, Alien Protector's Mate!**

Cute and enjoyable, but felt like it could have used another round of edits because there were a few grammatical errors that took me out of the story (such as a sentence randomly stopping halfway through). This is a great comfort series though so I will definitely continue reading!

Been waiting for zyntarr and Bea for ages! I loved how soft and patient zyn was for bea and how he let her come to him at her own pace. Bea was a nice change compared to the other girls too and I loved how she was with the younger trixikka. This one also focused more on choice and choosing to be with each other which I liked. Now I’m desperate and hoping Tryk and Chastity are next! 🤞🏽

After reading all five books in the series, I can safely say I love our winged friends in the jungle! This story was a breath of fresh air because it felt like a much more mature love story. Both leads being a bit older added a layer of emotional depth that I really appreciated.

While Bae kept Zyn at arm's length, her reasons felt genuine and rooted in a fear that I could actually respect. Bae’s caution felt like a real trauma response, and she never went out of her way to be hurtful. Zyn was the absolute star here, the fact that he had a daughter bracelet made to honor Daisy was so incredibly sweet it practically melted my heart.

I was surprised by the twists and turns in this installment. The friction building between the tribes is getting intense, and I have a feeling things are going to get much darker in future books. I’m genuinely sad that I’ve run out of books in this series for now! Seeing them finally choose each other was the perfect way to wrap up this chapter of the tribes.

Zytar would make a great baby daddy. He is so thoughtful and can cook with spices. I had a great time. Bea was a victim again of trauma and her mother could use a good slap but big boi Z is there to help heal. This book did hit the ground running and the whole purpose of this planet is making me nuts as I need to know more. Also, this book needed some final proofing. A big important sentence just stops in the middle of nowhere near the end. However, fun times were had.

Love this series, the plot on this one just not my personal cup of tea. The other stories definitely felt higher stakes. But so looking forward to reading the rest. Great writing as always!

Another really loveable story of the absolute husband material Trixxika aliens being cute and hilarious while also finding their mates that way. (Not to forget all the possessive protectiveness. It's very important. For reasons 😏🫦.)
I was really excited for Bea and Zyntarr's story! It surprised me a bit, that I seem to like the other pairings a bit more. I really thought I would love this one the most but it developed in another direction than I anticipated from the characters previous mannerisms/interactions. Not in a bad way! I totally still find them cute and I absolutely loved the book! I just seem to miss a tiny bit from the previous books.
What I really liked though was the reappearance of some old characters and the slowly growing connections between the different books set in this universe. I'm excited for the future releases! 😍

Firstly, why does this read like a plagiarised version of Heather Fox's 2022 novel Silenced which is the 5th book in her Mates for the Raskarrans series at the start? The setup with the newcomers, tense intertribal relations bc of harrassment of women, and the one tactiturn monosyllabic bulky guy standing out as different is so-so similar.

As for the novel itself, it's not written very well. I realised that this novel isn't for me and dnfed it early. The one-eye situation is compulsively repeated every other sentence, as well as the term "the/our females". The MML is scarred in this one, has low opinion of himself and tries to please the FML by feeding her. We're expected to believe that he's the nice one, yet he infantilizes the FML, keeps vital information from her, i.e lying by omission, and physically beats others behind her back when he doesn't like the way they talk. This is still adhering to toxic tropes, no matter the cook packaging.

I get that the patriarchal background in this is needed to upplay the positive qualities of the MML as in oh,-not-all-aliens/guys, yet this distinction is still benefitting from the overall structure of awefulness.
Namely, that in 2026 we apparently still keep producing these scenarios of sexual harrassment in a group in some alien planet where women are being endlessly chased after and pursued by hordes of alien men, while the women are trying to play it safe with not appearing too much rejecting of said harrassers and their completely unwanted attention. Sure, maybe the chief male does dissaprove it, esp being mated himself, but why is this still used as a plot device then, and how is this any way better than normalising unwanted street harrassment in real life?

Can't we do better than coming up with yet another possessive fated mate bonding formula taking place in some creepy procreation field in outer space? Can't we have more imagination than these dead tropes just because these appear to be marketable? Don't we deserve better stories at all?

Obsessed

I am obsessed with this series. I devoured this book in 3 hours 🤣. I feel like I have been waiting forever for the next book because when I stumbled on this series I just couldn't stop.
I absolutely love everything about these books.
I love that the men are huge, alien, fierce protectors that absolutely melt for their women and I had been waiting for this book because Zynn is literally the biggest of all. Covered in scars, imposing by just being and yet the softest giant to Bea and I am all for it!!

Love, love, love all these books and I know they take longer than 3 hours to write but honestly I could keep going for these endlessly. Although it's around the same tribe they each bring something different to the relationships that develop.

As soon as I saw this book was released I stopped in the series I was in to dive immediately into this! Ugh I'm sad there aren't more 🤣

Love, love, love!

Astronaughty behavior detected.

For the most part I really enjoyed Zyntarr and Bea's story. Especially when we have different attitudes about the mating bond in this book, in which the human is more kind about it and the alien seems to have an issue with it. Also, the fact that we see a relationship outside of the mating scheme and how disability might affect the mating was so interesting, and the building of a family takes many different forms in this new alien world.

But I want to learn more about the "goddess"...after all this book, I thought the humans should address this situation, especially since they take advantage of the tribes...
THE LEVEL OF INSECURITY IN THIS SERIES IS UNBEARABLE....

I loved the change of pace with this one, this was all about acceptance and choosing for yourself. Bea’s character arc of being extremely unsure of everything to pure determination was a refreshing take on how these humans on this alien planet are living - and I’d love to see it in future books where the other women take ownership of their own destinies.

I adored how they essentially adopted at the end, it felt like such a fitting outcome with Bea’s past and the uncertainty she feels about being a mum.

Honestly, I love this series so much and I’m already looking forward to the next one whenever that might be!

I really don't know what to say.

Nothing happened in this book. The funny parts I fell in love with in the previous books? None of them were to be found.

Zyntarr and Bea are as basic as it gets, there is basically no tension and to highlight their romance, some very standard patriarchy junk has been introduced. Because, yes, Zyntarr otherwise wouldn't display a character of a shrimp.

Not to mention that I really did not feel for "little Bea" nickname or her lack of adulting. How could she be a teacher if she wasn't capable of deciding for herself?

*sigh*

Maybe next time. There are still enough pairings for me to wait patiently.

Yeah this has convinced me that Melissa Emerald can do no wrong. This was just as amazing as her other books and I loved it so much!! Zyntarr and Bea were so cute and I really liked how their relationship grew. I love that even though each book is basically the same premise, Melissa is able to make each couple their own and it doesn’t ever feel redundant or already done. Bea was incredibly easy to see myself in, and made me feel for her so much in this book. I really can’t say enough good things about this book or series. I loved it all.

The good: I was so happy that we got to see more of the background plot line with the temple in this book, and that Yix from Bride Contract made an appearance. The scene where Zyn gave Bea a daughter band literally made me cry.

The bad: “my one good eye” “my one seeing eye” “keeping my one eye on her”, okay. I get it. He has one eye. I normally wouldn’t care, but it was so frequent I couldn’t ignore it.

The neutral: The romance felt a little flatter to me this time around, but not every couple can be everyone’s cup of tea.

Overall take: If you like the stoic, harsh guy that is secretly a big softie type then this is a great book.

Melissa has done it again. This whole series is so fun to read, and I’m not talking only about the spice. The whole story is very entertaining and the characters have actual personalities (which is a lot to ask looking at some other books from this genre). I’m giving it 4 stars only because I feel like this one fell a bit short for me. The story is just less exciting than in the previous books. Still a very fun and relaxing read. Would recommend <3

Goodness I loved this book 😭
I loved loved looooved Zyn and Bea’s story, I’ve been waiting for a while for it and it was everything I didn’t even know I wanted 🤍
The yearning… I can not cope.
Can’t wait for the next one, I really hope is Chastity’s but also I would loooooove to hear a story about one of the girls from the other tribe (Sophia’s? Gwen’s? Just saying).

Love ur books Miss Melissa, never stop writing ✨

Sweet but not my fave

I liked this but it didn't really live up to the others. There were some formatting issues and some words used in completely the wrong way which didn't help the situation.
I loved Zyntarr but thought Bea's character was inconsistent.
There was a bit too much instant solution to events which negated the drama building up to it.
Still would love to see more though

4.5 I love this series and the one connected to it. Is it for everyone?… no. But it tickles my fancy. All the books are just different enough, but cohesive enough to go together. I love it. It has all my favorite tropes. I read it in one day. I only noticed one grammar error toward the end (no spoilers), but it didn’t have quite the ending I was hoping for but still but still a HEA.

Bea, Zyn, and Tyrell

What a story my mind is blown I had no idea that was Beas past. I am in shock and awe of her and the way Zyn takes care of her and brings her back to herself was epic. Tyrll completing the hit unit was the best too! I can’t wait for the next one I really hope it’s chastity and tryk!

This one brought a more emotional, slightly heavier tone, and I appreciated the added depth.
Zyntarr is a scarred, guarded protector type, and I loved the patience and tenderness in the way the relationship develops. The tribal tension and ongoing mysteries are also ramping up, which has me eager to keep going.
A strong installment for this comfort-binge series.

I Found My Favorite One 😭💕

I’ve read all the books of this series so far, and yup, this one is #1 to me!
Hearing about Bea’s upbringing was intense enough, but the vulnerability we get from Zyntarr towards the end just tugged my heart in all directions 😩 and the wedding bands?! Be still my heart!
Bea & Zyntarr are officially my fav💙🩵💙

A lil treat

Is it the best book ever written? No. Is it the best book in the series? Also no. But is it a nice in-between book that doesn't require a lot of complex thinking and is fun to read for the sake of reading? Absolutely.

Really good read🌟

Bea has always noticed Zyntarr but because of her past has not acted on it. Zyntarr knows that Bea is his mate but because of his scars his heart stars do not shine. Can these two work things out? Enjoy

WHAT ABOUT CHASTITYS BOOK! I honestly ate up this whole series. I think the second book and this one was my top favorites. I do want to see more of the babies and understand wtf the ufo “goddess” this is in better detail. There’s no way this can be it right?!

Not my favorite. I wasn't a fan of either MC, nor their choices (namely his in Q3). I think I just... don't have the patience for timid FMCs. I knew going into this one that it wasn't going to be for me, and I'm disappointed to be right.
