Fellowship of Broken Doves
Hello, dearest wandering adventurer! I see you have finally stumbled upon me! It has taken you quite a long time. No matter—you are here now. Here to hear my story!
Perhaps before we go too far, and before I allow you into the minds of our bookish maiden and gallant warrior, I should introduce myself. I am the King of the Gods, you curious little thing, and I know exactly who you must be. You must be someone with at least a little preference for magic, castles, dragons, witches, trolls, giants, and goblins. Why else would you be here?
You see, wandering adventurer, the people of the island of Arrowmoore—where our story begins—are divided into four Kingsland, the farming territory; Riverstone, the logging territory; Norra, the fishing territory; and Goldridge, the mining territory. In the beginning, these territories were united… but that was before the war, and before the Dark Lord Dastan began his scorched-earth campaign to subjugate all of Arrowmoore. Now our bookish maiden, our gallant warrior, and the rest of their fellowship must work closely together to stop him from conquering their entire island—just as he did the territory of Goldridge.
So listen closely, that you might discover for yourself whether the fellowship can survive the evil lurking through yonder forest… just waiting to strike.

Yay!! And nooooo! I was afraid of that. Now I have to wait for book two. 😭
The good:
Very entertaining and fun to read! It's been a while since I've read fantasy (other than short stories), and I liked how this one wasn't "heavy" in the likes of Tolkien, because I wasn't looking for something that takes a lot of focus to read. The author has a good imagination! The humor mingling in was great! Lots of activity to keep things moving fast, twists that you might see coming, but other twists that will surprise you. I also liked the recurring theme of forgiveness.
The quirks:
The write-up on Amazon and the intro almost deterred me from reading the book because it didn't seem like something that would interest me, but I forged on and found out the write-up did not reflect the story style much at all, and it was the story itself that drew me in.
At first, I did not "feel" any difference between the two MCs, but that's tough to accomplish when both are in first person. It got better as the book progressed, though. That shows good growth as a writer on the author's part!
Some characters had drastic, sudden changes in their approach to things, and it seemed jarring to the storyline because it didn't fit with the personality the character had the whole time.
I thought the end was rushed, but I understand how difficult it is to find that balance between "wait, that ended?" and "pleeease be done." It wasn't bad, though, and did what it was meant to do.... make me want to read the second book!
A surprising amount of minor typoes in the second half, but heck, I'm still finding typos in all my published books! My editor brain just never shuts off.
Overall, with this being the first book this author wrote (second to publish), it's pretty decent, and I'm guessing her future books are just going to get better and better. I'm looking forward to book two!
