The Next Door Billionaire: A Friends-to-Lovers Second Chance Romance

Rate this book
My billionaire neighbor was my childhood best friend.
Now he’s my fake boyfriend, my bodyguard… and maybe my undoing.

Roman Wolfe is the last man I should trust.
He’s gruff, guarded, and has walls higher than his penthouse view.
But when someone breaks into my apartment in the middle of my corruption investigation, he’s the one kicking down my door.

One night in his penthouse for my safety turns into a fake relationship to throw off the press.
And somewhere between late-night kitchen run-ins, only-one-bed disasters, and him shielding me from danger like it’s his full-time job… I forget why I was keeping my heart locked up.

I fall for him—hard.
Then I uncover a truth that could destroy us both.

If I publish my story, I take down the man I love.

The truth could cost us everything. Unless we’re willing to risk it all for something bigger—forever.

This book intrigued me from the start. I loved the premise and the friendship that was developing between the MMC and the FMC. About halfway through, though, the story got boring, and I contemplated putting it down, but I powered through and ran until the end, which I’m glad I did. The beginning and end are both well thought out and have “gotcha” moments or pure joy – it's just the middle that seems to drag a bit. It was a good book, though, and one I would read again. It does involve a fake relationship and a billionaire protector, so if you enjoy either of those tropes, this might be right up your alley.

Book Title: The Next Door Billionaire
Author: Chloe Horne

Star Rating: ⭐⭐⭐
Spice Level: ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Alyssa and Roman grew up together and thought that they would have each others back always. Life happens though and they grow apart or as apart as Roman will allow Alyssa to be. Now they need to join together to protect each other as Roman's company is trying to stop Alyssa from telling the truth. After spending more time together and trying to save both their reputations feeling begin to grow. Will they continue to grow after Alyssa publishes her story?

I liked this book but it got repetitive and halfway through I was wondering where the story was going. I would read books by this author again.

Readable romantic thriller. I enjoyed the opening of the story as it gets off to a speedy start when a masked man breaks into Alyssa’s apartment, attacking her and stealing her laptop. I was immediately engaged as Alyssa, and investigative journalist, determinedly pursues her story to expose high-level corruption in Roman Wolfe’s organisation. I loved that former childhood friend, Roman becomes her protector – fending off physical and media attacks on them and their reputations whilst protecting the woman he has always cared about. An enjoyable, pacy romantic thriller that doesn’t disappoint.

I enjoyed this book. The story was good and there was a really nice HEA. I liked that Alyssa was a smart and strong woman who could hold her own. She didn't back down and wanted to help Roman expose the issues harming his company. There were a couple of times I felt Roman came across as wishy washy, but then flashed back to the strong billionaire he was.

A new-to-me author and I'm glad I chose to read this book!

Staccato delivery.

A disappointingly average story, made to feel more exciting by it's staccato style as if everything is terribly urgent & immediate. Unfortunately it doesn't work & the whole thing falls flat..

On another note - I hope never to have to read again in response to a marriage proposal "yes, a thousand times, yes". Please spare us poor readers from that cliche for good!

With enemies hiding in every corner, Roman and Alyssa have a hard time knowing whom they could trust. When Alyssa comes under attack, Roman comes to her rescue, and a fast-paced race against time ensues. I enjoyed the interaction between Roman and Alyssa, although the plot left me behind at times. Nevertheless, the novel comes to a good conclusion with a second chance at happiness. I received a copy of this book as a gift, and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Everyone will want to read all about Alyssa and Roman once they get their hands on this romance book. After just once glimpse of the cover and knowing that Chloe has a new romance book out, I knew instantly I had to read this book. Phenomenal is not even close to how well written this book is. I can see the orange banner saying BEST SELLER for this book.

I loved the cover of this book. Alyssa is a beautiful strong woman. Roman is a sexy billionaire. She is helping him find out who is trying to take his business down. They fake a relationship to help each other out. This book has suspense, sex and love. So good.

I never really got fully into this story, and it felt like I (or it) was missing something. The main characters were just ok, but I felt like I never got to know them.
