Frankie should publish her paper

“Love & Other Squibbles” by Kenzie James is a charming, cozy, and sweet alien romance. I appreciated how James concentrated on the inner worlds of Frankie and Azrien as they transition from friends to lovers. The main characters both join H.E.L.P. (Human Extraterrestrial Liaison Program) for practical reasons and with hopes solely of friendship. Therefore, they immediately friendzone each other, only to gradually develop feelings and figure out how to move forward. I enjoyed this novella greatly; it’s sweet, lively, delightful, and full of character growth.

Thank you to the author for my ARC in return for an honest review!
This was such a cute and quick read! I loved Frankie and Azrien's interactions and how they were both wanting to say or do thing, but both were too nervous or worried about their original agreement. I absolutely LOVE the squibble, Tavy!!!!!

5/5 for the story
2/5 for the spice
10/5 for the squibble

This one was so sweet! There's definitely spice, but I 100% would classify it more sweet friends-to-lovers than smut.

This was just sweet and calming to read.

And all the squibbles? Raising the baby squibble? the squibble ending? It was too sweet and it made me want to cry low key because I read it at the wrong time of the month. And then made me miss my dog.

5/5

Good one to read in one sitting with a cup of tea

This is such a heartwarming friends to lovers story with so many bonus squibbles. At this point I really want a squibble of my very own! I will also accept an alien mate especially if there’s…rattling (IYKYK). Frankie and Azrien are so sweet together!

🌶️🌶️

This was the absolute sweetest, most relatable, slow burn friends to lovers novella.

Frankie, academic research scientist, is forced to rethink her life plan when funding is cut for her university research job on wildlife conservation. So realistic it hurts. Luckily for Frankie, she can sign up for CUNTS through HELP, leave this planet, and go to another where her skills are put to better use and she’s valued.

Not gonna lie. I’m jealous. The more time I spend on this planet, the more I wish I was eligible for interplanetary relocation.

She’s matched with Azrien, a total hottie who works security in the mines of Planet WLN269. He’s not looking for a mate, he just wants a friend. Since she’s only in it to research extraterrestrial life, it’s a perfect match.

But it’s more perfect than either realize because…. Feelings! Az’s people don’t form long term romantic relationships really and he’s never had a good example of one. Frankie is scared to give up her new plan, take a chance on love, and maybe watch it all blow up in her face when it fails.

With the help of Tavy, their rescued Squibble pet, can these two come together?

Also, his male part vibrates and rattles and I love it. The rattle gives me slight edge of rattler and is fear kink my new thing? Anyway, there’s no poison and all biting is consensual and enjoyed.

I absolutely loved this story! Frankie and Azrien are absolutely perfect together. Theyre also well-developed for such a short story. I appreciate how they compliment and bring out the best in each other. For an alien romance set within a silly universe, this story was surprisingly soft and emotional. As always, James’s writing is fun, but also beautiful (and beautifully descriptive) when the story calls for it. Annnnnnd, the Squibbles! If nothing else, stay for the cuteness.

5 stars— you need read this short quirky alien romance. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

This one is super sweet too! I laughed so many times during this read! He is so unintentionally funny! Between confusing feelings for physical ailments to his decorating choices based on research of humans I was chuckling the whole way. At least up until he said the most dang romantic things! Oh my goodness! SWOON! I really enjoyed this, definitely super comforting!

Overall 4.25/5 stars

"It would be nice to have someone to come home to. Someone who understands you on a deeper level and wishes to talk to you on your best and worst days."

After funding cuts in her department Frankie finds herself jobless. As a wildlife biologist she decides to sign up for the H.E.L.P matching program on WLN269 where she matches with an interstellar pilot Azrien. They decide to take the leap and meet. Frankie thinks it'll just be for research to see what type of wildlife they have on this planet. But, her connection with Azrien has them both questioning everything. Because when love comes knocking, how can you reject it?

Both Azrien and Frankie were adorable. I absolutely loved them and their story. Azrien who never craved connection until Frankie, and Frankie who pretty much gave up on men before him.

Great quick alien romance read. ALSO they get cute little alien Cephalopod as a pet!

Azrien and Frankie start out their journey with intentions to just be friends. Azriens people don't do long-term mating. Frankie has just been laid off and wants to make a friend so she can go study the Alien wildlife. In the "get to know you" period before launching on the adventure both of them develops feelings of more then friends.
Those feelings intensifies the more they are around each other.

My favorite part is them finding Octavia!

I loved this book — it was fun, romantic, and gave me all the feelings in the most satisfying way.

The friends-to-lovers dynamic was beautifully done. Frankie and Azrien think they’re just helping each other out, but watching them quietly fall into a deep, steady love was incredibly sweet and emotionally rewarding.

I really appreciated the woman-in-STEM angle. Frankie being a biologist studying beings on another planet adds such a cool, empowering layer to the story — her skills and intelligence genuinely matter to the plot.

Azrien might actually be my favourite male lead in the WLN269 series so far. Feline-like features (fulfilling all of my Thundercats fantasies), optimistic energy, ex-pilot tinkering with his own ship? Absolutely elite book boyfriend material.

And we can’t forget the squibbles — those squid-like little nuisances are chaotic, adorable, and add so much charm.

This worked perfectly for me because I love soft friends-to-lovers romance, capable and intelligent heroines, and alien heroes who are equal parts competent and emotionally open.

Love and Other Squibbles is for readers who adore friends-to-lovers, women-in-STEM heroines, optimistic alien book boyfriends, and playful sci-fi romance with heart, humour, and of course, squibbles.

Omg this story was sweeeeet. Frankie is a badass academic research scientist who was recently laid off from her job at university. At the urging of her former boss and also sister, she decides to sign up for the H.E.L.P program because, even if she’s not looking for love, it’s a once in a lifetime experience to study a new planet and the extraterrestrial lifeforms. Frankie matches with an ex-pilot alien hottie named Azrien, who is also not too interested in mating and such, just really companionship. The two main characters really bring out the best in each other and there’s such a beautiful buildup of the characters becoming friends to then the moment they realize that they want more. Perfection. Azrien is just so dang cute. And then when we get to the spice? Yaaaaaas.

-Standalone novella, under 100 pages, in a shared world with other books in the series.
-Spicy and sweet
-Alien dating app
-Strangers to friends to lovers
-Human FMC x Alien MMC
-Women in STEM
-Consent and thoughtful king
-Dark caves
-Cute cephalopods called Squibbles, one becomes a pet for the MCs
-Unique, vibrating ween
-Child-free HEA

I would like to start by thanking Kenzie James and the Planet WLN269 Arc team for allowing me the chance to read this ARC. All of the thoughts and opinions shared are my own!

This story was such a cute and easy read that I absolutely flew through! Frankie thought she was going to space for the 90 days to learn about the planet wildlife, however she soon learns that there can be more to life than just pursuing your goals. Azrien meanwhile has never craved the connection like others, and slowly has to come to terms with what it means to want someone else in your life and space more permanently. Obviously they're both helped along by the sweetest squibble who deserves the world and all the meat their heart desires.

There was smut towards the end, but this book mostly focused on the connection and the self realisation of these characters as they got to know one another. The smut that we got was very good though! This is another alien romance that would ease you into the genre quite nicely if you want to start reading!

Thank you to the author for a copy of this book.

4.5 rounded up to 5

This one hit my exact sweet spot for WLN269. Cozy, weird, quietly emotional, and chaotic in a fun way.

Frankie signs up for the H.E.L.P. program for practical reasons, not romance, and I loved that. She is a scientist first, curious and driven, and Azrien matches her energy. Their connection builds through messages and shared curiosity before anything turns romantic. Azrien completely won me over. He is sweet, a little lonely, and genuinely trying to understand human emotions that do not translate cleanly into his culture.

There is some very memorable spice with a unique alien twist that I really enjoyed. Also yes, the squibbles absolutely steal scenes and I regret nothing about instantly falling in love with them.

Received as part of an ARC.

Oh my, Frankie and Azrien are so cute and awkward! It's absolutely adorable! Neither of them really wanted to start an actual relationship, both were nudged by friends/family to at least find someone to talk to so their jobs wouldn't be the only thing in their lives, and you can see that so well when they're talking!

It's such fun seeing them start to realize they actually do have feelings for each other but don't actually know what to do about them. And then you add a splash of spicy and a dash of adorable little space squid 🐙 pet and the story turns into a magnificent happily ever after. They're so adorable!

As other stories from this series, this is also light, with just a tiny flick of drama to make things exciting but overall, it's just two adorable and awkward beings trying to figure out their feelings that they never expected to have.

When Frankie signs up to H.E.L.P the human/ alien dating app she was looking for friendship more than love and ends up matching with Azrien. She’s researcher at heart and it is one of the reasons she goes to Planet WLN269 to study it.

When she gets to know Azrien she feels this connection towards him and that maybe being his friend might not be easier said than done. When Azrien sees Frankie for the first time his twin hearts beat only for her, he has this urge to protect her.

Falling in love wasn’t part of the plan for either of them but maybe the universe had other plans✨

This was a short sweet novella, I loved the build up to when Frankie and Azrien become more than friends and the passion and desire between them and when Frankie realises there is more to her life now that’s she with Azrien she finally comes alive ✨

All aboard Planet WLN269, my introduction to squibbles… that's it I’m sold. I want one!
This quick read was well written, kept me turning the page and the characters were well-developed. Frankie is looking to study the alien environment and Axrien is lonely, looking for friendship. I loved reading how their relationship slowly changes and how they handled it. Both are oblivious and ridiculous. I love them. When they do finally figure things out the chemistry is hot. If you're a fan of alien romance, friends to lovers, unique peen, and explicit spice this book is for you.

I received this ARC in a shared world with multiple authors. Thank you for the opportunity to escape into your story!

I can’t believe how much I love this entire series but it’s quickly become one of my favorites. Azrien and Frankie were the cutest. I loved that in this one, they had entered into the program looking for companionship, not a mate, but they fell for each other so quickly. Azrien was so sweet and respectful and the way he tried to win her over with his knowledge of Human Courting Rituals was so adorable. The inclusion of the Squibbles in this was amazing and I loved them and how they acted so much. This book was so sweet it literally made me cry. When you find out what tu les vhel nan means, you’ll probably be sobbing just like I was. The spice in this is very hot, Azrien has a very special appendage😮‍💨
Absolutely amazing read! Highly recommend it!

This was a cute friends to lovers novella in this series. Frankie a biologist from earth gets paired with Azrien a Raxion a cat like species who provides mine security maintenance and inspections on WLN269. When their initial interactions appear to be geared towards friendship Frankie is thankful and just looking for a way to experience alien life and see the species on the planet in their natural habitat. However, once she arrives she can't deny her feelings for her companion. I loved the world building in this novella and the creatures were a super fun edition. This would be a 5⭐ 4 🌶️ romance.

A super cute, friends-to-lovers short story. I never thought I would get so attached to a side character/pet but I love the squibbles! They're adorable. I would read a full length novel about Azrien and Frankie. The mutual pining and obliviousness is just so cute. The writing itself was very good and told the story smoothly.

I received an ARC of this book for free. This does not affect my opinion of the content, and all thoughts expressed, including my obsession with Azrien and the squibble, are entirely my own.

Frankie is a focused driven person. She is willing to sign up with H.E.L.P. to see the alien ecosystem. Finding a male that is like minded is a plus.
Azrien comes from a race that doesn’t get with a mate unless their goal is to make a baby. So he is ok with Frankie coming if she will assist him with his animal problems he is encountering.
Their talks before she leaves start them on a journey that leads to more than friendship. When they meet in person they are both unsteady with how their relationship is changing. But both want to see where it goes anyways.

Adorable, simply adorable! Azrien and Frankie were both so lonely before they found each other 😭 I enjoyed the light touch of science throughout this novella & how the story focused so strongly on the relationship between them. The inclusion of a cute squibble only made the story more cute & cemented the found family aspects of this story.

✨ ARC REVIEW ✨

This one is definitely the cutest yet! I love the almost normal looking 👽. definitely sexy.

There’s a little spice at the end but the majority is about adjusting and deciding what Frankie wants to do. Which, let me tell you, that little squibble, Tavy is worth it.

If you want something sweet and short and out of the planet vibe, take this one to the shelf. It’s fluffy with the perfect combo of spicy to it.

It is fast paced and time skipped off paper but honestly, we don’t care about that lmfao. We want the fluff and cutesy moment with an alien and a human.

Honestly this book was adorable. I think Frankie and Azrien are adorable together and I love how their relationship developed. This is a short novella and the relationship still felt so smooth. It was a really natural transition from “we can only be friends” to “I want more” and again it was just really sweet and I loved Tavy the entire concept of the sqibbles is just perfect to me.

The only problem with this book is that it is too short! I want more of Azrien and Frankie. These two took the friend route and I loved it! These two lost souls are such sweet dorks. But Azrien was secretly packing....I mean having a comparison to a toy from earth is a high compliment.

Also, how is Kenzie getting me so emotionally invested in a little squibble. For my pain and suffering, I demand a plushie version please?

I loved that she is a wildlife biologist who was excited to observe behavior on a new planet. Especially one who uses her craft to create positive change (and boy howdy do I relate to funding being cut out of the blue.) OF COURSE she’d adopt the first stray she finds. I also love the friends to lovers trope. There are many clever and funny jokes about how confusing human courting rituals.

We get a fun fancy peen! And pretty low spice over all.

ARC Review for ‘Love and Other Squibbles’ by Kenzie James.

In this series we follow Frankie and Azrien.
Frankie wants to study the aliens after funding is going to stop. So she decides to sign up for H.E.L.P to study aliens.
She is then matched with Azrien, and while being matched to him, their chemistry and attraction flares up.
It is a sweet slow burn, an alien who tries to learn about emotions and where their own feelings slowly build up.
A lovely short story

A cozy and steamy addition to the Planet WLN269 Needs Women shared world!

After her research funding is cut, Frankie decides to start a new plan, beginning with studying on a new world. Azrien longs for a deep connection. Their friends-to-lovers story is incredibly sweet. The plot involving the adorable squibbles adds humor and charm. It is a perfect palate cleanser: sweet, spicy, and imaginative!
