I'm back again as an adult still tripping and falling thru life and with a lot to learn. I am still trying to ride a bike without training wheels. Which is just a metaphor for how much learning I still had to do. Continue this journey with me as I take you on another ride of my life's disappointments and let downs. Will I ever learn to love? Will I ever learn to trust? You decide.
I got a jumpstart on knowing Tishs' story because I happened to read the last book in the series first, I know, right? Again I say it's a real shame that a more professional job of editing wasn't done throughout the series, though I have endured much worse that was more distracting. I was still able to read the entire series and remain focused and interested despite the errors. I believe all three parts of the series did deserve their five stars in that most young ladies with backgrounds as disturbing as Tisha"s don't get written and particularly not written by themselves and accept the blame for much of their own tragedies. Trish did!!! She had horrible judgment and made the same life-threatening and life altering mistakes repeatedly! I was extremely impressed by two choices she made, however, and that was to continue to educate herself at all costs and become a better mother after allowing one of her children to fall between the cracks in the worst way. Her work ethic was unheard of considering her past and all the obstacles of every kind that she had to endure, including debilitating health conditions. She was a force to be reckoned with in those arenas and a shining example to her children and other African American females who have lived and now live similar stories. It was a testament and source of encouragement even for those of us who were blessed to escape some of the dramatic life stressors that Tisha did. I noticed and found it odd that she never really had many female friends or partners in crime outside a few family members. She really seemed to be a solo act and able to attract trouble all on her own but by the same token when she was in deep she didn't do much towards asking others to bail her out very often. Her independence was actually rather astonishing. I greatly enjoyed Trisha's story and highly recommend this series. I personally plan to give her another shot as an author.
She didn't let Nothing get in her way of excelling. But she followed in her mom footsteps regarding men and pregnancies. She is a go getter, strong black woman!!!
